2nd plug in a row.

Sincere apologies to do this. But in desperate times, one resorts to desperate means.

The thing is, we had a show of MEDHA & ZOOMBISH II, today, 26th December @ Prithvi House. AND we had a poor house.

So please HELP the cause. Those of you who have the time (and inclination), to see a fun play, PLEASE drop in tomorrow for:

MEDHA & ZOOMBISH II
(Education + Nonsensification = Something Ookie)

27th December (Thurs) – 11 am
PRITHVI THEATRE. Janki Kutir. Juhu.
Tickets: Rs 50/-
STRICTLY, NO LATE ENTRY!
Tel No: 26149546!

Hmm.

MEDHA & ZOOMBISH II is a musical.

The twenty odd cast members consist of very talented college students. And most of them play, themselves.

The students have helped me script, and design and direct the show.

MEDHA & ZOOMBISH II been co-directed by PFCite: Chaitanya Tamhane along with Sudeep Modak. The music has been designed two very young people: Akshata Sawant & Swapnil Ajgaonkar

WHAT THE MEDIA HAS SAID

“For a while, the play allows you to feel good about your assumptions; a school, noisy children, classroom, punishing principal, homework and ten thousand doubts about everything in the world. As you watch with rapt attention the high-energy performance, you catch our own T P Kailsam, William Blake, Charles Dickens and others whirring past your already busy mindscape. But why? Because you fooled yourself into believing that it is a children’s play, while it is hardly so. It is a play by children critiquing adults.”
The Hindu, Bangalore

“The play is performed by a group of 20-young but wonderful student actors from Mithibai College. It is their take on youth and their problems. The life of an average teenager or school kid is not as simple as it was. There are the outdated, the hip and the happening, and the plain dumb, and they
are all faced with the same horrors of an outdated education system. All this is presented through trendy costumes, innovative props and puppets, minimal lights and devoid of sets.”
The Times of India, Mumbai

“Medha & Zoombish II does not talk down to his children audience. It does not patronize them nor purports to ’show them the way’. It simply invites them to have fun and celebrate their world as they make sense out of it. Adults are free to join in with them or enquire into their own belief system. But even for those who choose to switch of their brains and simply sing along, this play is a soothing antidote to the rampant stupidity it pointedly denounces.”
Mumbai Mirror, Mumbai

Hope to see some of you for the show.

Thanks.

And 101 sorries about being my own PR machine.

    indian culture is autocratic.
here no body likes to here anything against his opinion. indians pride themselves for there tolerance. here is the example. i put my point of view about theater. next thing you did was getting personal.

I m not getting personal here, and I have no intentions of being autocratic either. But to say theatre is dead – shows a misconception that comes out of ignorance or lets say- not being interested.Sometimes ignorance is blissful but sometimes you dont know what you are losing out on. I dont want to go into details of why theatre is great form art etc. etc. but time and again I hear people talking about Art forms and languages – getting extinct or going to. We can not kill art forms or languages – they are like Sun – you can take as much as you can out of it, but if you close urself in a closet – they dont cease to exist. As Gulzar says
“Geet budhe nahi hote, unke chehro par zurriya nahi padti, woh palte rehte hai, chalte rehte hai…ha sunane walo kie umra badal jati hai…”
same applies for all art forms and contemporary notions about them.
P(L)AYBACK !! vishrant doesnt need any surgery, if he is applying the logic that there is no one watching medha and zumbish ii and on the same day 10 million people are watching TZP….People working in mind numbin balaji soaps are getting paid lacs and watched by millions – and people working in theatre r not even getting peanuts…Ram kapoor is a superstar and earns a fortune and nobody knows someone like Kumud mishra… hence it is proved that theater is dead – May be, just may be theatre is dead – for him. But he will never be Dead for theatre…

my opinion on gulzar and ‘geet budhe nahine hote’ is posted on other topic.

    about art form not dying.
    lets bring ‘kathputali’ back.
who ever will give his life for this mission will be looked up as a martayer, and even if nobody else, i will keep a one day fast on his death.

the artist who thinks that society owe him something is on the road of madness.

for this kind of artist the joy is not in creation, for them joy is in getting recognized.
they seek atteniton, same like politican seek attention.

mind you, politician too pretend to work the betterment of society.

  16. niren niren says:

Vishrant ! Kathputli has gone nowhere, its still a very popular art form in village areas, puppet shows are still very popular all over the world, they run packd houses even on broadway (look ! i just saved u from keepin fast for one day).
Coming to the second point,I dont quite understand why are you bringing this point of “attention seeking”? We were just talking about art forms…anyways – neither artists nor society owes anything to each other.Reciprocation is a natural process but it doesnt necessarily mean dependency or any form of transaction.
For all artist the first joy is joy of creation and second one is joy of being recognized, and in todays world, recognition is not only for joy, but also for bread and butter. We cant blame anyone for that.

    niren

kathputlai in villages .. kis duniya main ho bhai. kabhi koi gawn dekha hai. today in india in villages every well to home has a color tv and a vcd player.

puppet show in broadway — that’s what i mean by snobs.

bread and butter – yes, why not. they are indipendent to choose their profession. a road side madari do shows for his bread and butter. people who depend upon theater for there bread butter, should do theater. BUT never again pull out that holier than thou attitude [-x

Went to shoot a CNN-IBN interview with the TATA chief about the Ford takeover and ended up running around to get community reactions, think tank predictions and the real deal on this murder……

all Policy makers, Senators, Pak hands are on leave/holidaying or heading to Iowa
but we managed to get a Political Analyst and a Pakistani Member of Parliament and Stephen Cohen form Brookings to give sound bytes….

it was so hollow, ultimately it was about
“How come that NDTV correspondent got here before us?”

But BB was definitely viewed with affection here in DC, obviously , also for India these will be trying times if Sharif boycotts elections, Army deposes Musharaf and we have an Islamic neighbour under the Mullahs….

I know I know I was talking about the delights of the Burqa and the innocence of the average muslim but THIS will be dangerous :(
