PFCOne 2007: Day Five
And it’s a wrap… but we have a few surprises… (besides announcing the winners) that will get you punching your next creative thoughts on your keyboard…
I’ll keep this short.
I would like to mention a few people here without whom this festival would have been absolutely impossible. Please do clap your desks as a token of appreciation for these wonderful wonderful people who worked days and nights until wee hours of the morning for absolutely no money but for the pure love for PFC. And if you have a project or a job for which you need some hardworking, creative and highly motivated people… your search ends here. Just click on the contact form and let us know.
The list has to begin with…
Phoenixnu (Bombay)
Without this guy, you would have never got to hear about this festival. It was he who engineered, monitored and got on and drove the publicity campaign for PFCOne at full blast ahead. This was a dream publicity. Hats off to you Phoenixnu!
t! (USA) & wb (Australia)
The entire management, documentation, marketing, post design and internal communication was managed by t! and wb. Had I known that organizing a festival would mean the tons and tons of paperwork, notes, recording each point, step… I may have had second thoughts about it. This festival would never have been so beautifully and amazingly organized in such a smooth manner without t! and wb sitting on top of the things - big or small. You need any organization and management skill sets for an event, for your firm or a project… you now know who to call… And bonus thanks to t! for bringing us such a huge sponsor as Final Draft… that was just WOW!
DPac (Australia)
I’ve eaten half his head out and the other half will be off the plate with the forthcoming PFC Events. But if there is any guy who can read the images of logos in my head it’s him. DPac is a graphics artist extraordinary and with exceptional creative talent. Shoot him an email for any of your graphic design needs. You will be amazed at what he can do.
Kartik Krishnan & Vasanbala
My right and left arms in Bombay. PFC can’t move an inch without them. These are your behind the scene guys who “make” the scene happen. If you are enjoying PFC, you enjoyed this festival and you are enjoying this post of Day Five… these are the guys to thank. With a highly creative drive that is equally contagious, I thank my right and left arms for this. And no I’m not telling who is the right and who’s the left one. Sorry. Both Kartik and Vasan have exceptional editing, screenplay, camera and whatever you can think of skill sets. They both have garnered an amazing experience working with the best of the best in Bombay. Vasan moves on to work on Dev D, while Kartik at this time is finishing his hundredth or two hundredth script.
Besides these wonderful people there’s Om, Striker, Vijay (who coined the title PFCOne), Saurabh, FenderBender… gosh so many of PFC authors.
A special thanks to all the wonderful people who offered to sponsor prizes for this event and all I did was just ask… it’s the movement they believe in and I shall forever be grateful to you all for making it thus. Hansal, Suparn, Ramu, Pavan, Nishikant and ofcourse Onir who proposed this event and it simply injected life back into the idea of a festival that was lying dormant within me for the last two years.
Special thanks to Anurag (yeah, you don’t know which Anurag I’m talking about), for excitedly jumping off his chair when he first heard this idea and giving us his full support and advise when we needed it.
Gosh, this is going long… so if I’ve missed anyone, please wave in the comments section!

Announcing… PFCPitcher….!!!!!!!

We know you have a million scripts and stories in your head or written down as scripts. We know you can make a story out of thin air. We know you can modify a story and make it interesting to the nth degree… What we don’t know is Can You Talk and Market your story across the table to the executives, producers sitting on the other side?
PFCPitcher is a six week contest that will test your creativity, spontaneity and pitching skills. In the six weeks you will have to create stories based on broad outlines we give you. Six weeks - Three rounds. Each round will see elimination of contestants.
So what happens after the third round?
We have a winner
So what do we give the winner?
An internship with a major production house!!!
Oh DAMN!!! Details please…
:)
Wait for January 15th, 2008. That’s the day we announce the details of PFCPitcher !!!
.
So I think we are done…
.
.
Or are we?
.
.
No I think I’m done with the list I was supposed to announce here…
.
.
.
Am I done?
.
Of course
.
.
Why do I feel like I’m missing something…
.
.
Oh Darn…
.
.
THIS JANUARY
GET READY, TO SAY
SAYONARA
TO THE BORING MOVIE CRITICS,
FOR ON PFC…
YOU WILL SEE…
MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF…
SAMURAI
SLICING AND DICING MOVIES, VYING FOR…
THE TITLE OF…
.
PFCRonin
Ronin \Ro”nin”\, n. [Jap. r[=o]-nin, fr. Chin. lang profligate,
lawless + j[^e]n (old sound n[=i]n) man.]
a samurai with no group, clan or master - he is the outsider, the outcast
And we are looking for one… Samurai amongst the movie reviewers who stands ALONE
He/She CAN give a review as a review is meant to be. Unbiased. Uncorrupted. Complete. Educational. And with Tons of Attitude.
From January 25th for six weeks, we will be searching for this RONIN… the outsider who sees movies all the time and has an opinion. An opinion which is worth its weight in gold.
So sharpen your pens, cleanup your keyboard and get ready to watch all the movies that we will list. Go see them and come back with killer reviews which will put our “professional” reviewers to shame (atleast most of them)…
The PFCRonin of Season One, gets a deal with a major and known for its forthright views media firm, to write reviews each month for them as their Star Reviewer.
But for that you will have to wait because
… Details of PFCRonin come in on December 15th
.
And that’s all we have for you now…
It was a great 5 days of fun, excitement, frolic, creativity and a lots of hope … thank you for giving all this and sharing it with everyone…
PFCOne returns in 2008.

Can you please put the video of winners again directly on this page, or a link to it?
Also any more insights about judging processes? Were there any more special mentions? What was the judges reaction after they saw the movies?

Thanks everybody for watching my films, loving them or hating them. Will get back soon as cannot stay away from PFC for long:)>-
Fucking awesome man!!! The prizes are well deserved.
I was a bit pissed off by the comments during the fest, a few guys were idiotically promoting their films and commentators in general completely neglecting likes of ‘A min. of Local Kung Fu’ and ‘Dolly’, but really delighted to see them as winners finally. Congrats Kabir, Kenny, and other winners.
And what a mind blowing ‘P’ it turned out to be. Hats off Oz and friends. I could have never hoped for better contests. Especially PFCRonin is extraordinarily brilliant. We will have you for lunch Mr. Subhash, Mr. Taran and Mr. Khalid.
[More details sought on 'Pitching'. Are the contestants supposed to market the stories as well as part of the contest?]
Congrats to one and all……and salute to PFC….it is bound to go places

Whooping Awesome. Kudos to all three who bagged the prizes…quite honestly, I am mighty glad that I didnt have to take a call amonst them.
For the guys who didnt make it to the top three, remember that a Hero is rarely an actor and an actor is almost never a Hero!
To all of you, who reaffirmed faith in Creative thinking - Cheers! :)>-

Also, Oz, is it alright to put festival submissions up on other sites now?

Mind
Thanks to the PFC team for making this possible.
Thanks a lot to Gopi, Ankur Pandey and Indraneelda for their goodwill. (Where’s the paper with my acceptance speech cum list of people to thank) ;):d
I’ve been too nervous too check out the site daily, but I’m feeling much better now.
George Antoney’s Itch was really good. Works well as a tribute to Chaplin!
Kasla Kay is my personal favourite among the winners. I’ve been reading about the Vidarbha farmers in Tehelka and Frontline and it really hurts to know such tragedies are happening. Kasla Kay really makes its point. Hard hitting :)>-
I’m moving to Mumbai next week to start off my career as a struggling actor. Let’s hope things fall in place
Thanks a ton george for wathcing Mind’s eye ….
One request Oz, plz don’t take off the links… haven’t been able to catch most of movies

inspiration for u..
nice use of imagery from his shows….
great going man….
Congratulations to the winners.
And best of luck in the future to all who submitted the entries.
It was an incredible experience to be a part of this.
This may end up being a turning point - it coincided with me really beginning to seriously contemplate the “do be do be do” line of thought.
Thanks,
Neeraj
Awesome festival…its my first movie festival….
Congrats to Kabir Singh, Safat ali and Ranjit. Oz and the team, well done! Nice events comingup.
Can someone explain me what was Dolly? I guess she had memories from the past when she looked at the eggs, but what exactly?

@Phoenixnu,
You may fix 18.00PM IST on Wednesday for this event, that time all zones should be in quite conscious state:)

I am really overwhelmed at the response
We’ve had five days of PFC one,
Watching all those flicks was great fun,
Winners…congrats! participants..well done,
Organisers…good show…thanks a ton.
Congratulations to the winners.
PFC, take a bow.
Volunteers and Organizers, you are better people than I. I could never work this unselfishly.
It was a great experience throughout the fest. I think this is the first online festival of its kind.
All the best everyone and congrats to the winners Ranjit, Safat and kabir.
^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^ to all the winners…Shafat Ali…Congrats, Kabir Congrats, Ranjit Congrats…congrats to kenny and Antoney..great job guys. This festival has been a trip, right from inception to execution to the closing night…wish we cud do this atleast twice a year, but as for how it looks now, it might not be possible…so will have to wait for 2008 fest.
@Kabir…
Dolly was exceptional and well deserving, but comparing shape of the egg to cosmos is a bit too far fletched. Take it as creative criticism, such type of imagery and metaphors are completely inappreciable, and uncalled for.
And whats this-
“Note: In most countries it is the cousin brother who tells his sister about sex , or maybe even goes ahead and shows her a few things , so it has become what one might call the rites of passage
Kabir,
Thank you very much for your feedback. “Dolly” is a great creation. My understanding was completely different. With the blood and the death of the chicken I thought Dolly had lost her family in a crash (images of wreckage/junkyard) and she remembers them through the sight of eggs. But I did not pay attention to the “Where do eggs come from?” Pretty marvellous. Definitely “Dolly” is one of the best things I have seen in a longtime. Thanks to your explanation and Congratulations.
Oz - A suggestion: Can an explanation for the choice of winners also be put up? It would help people notice what was needed that they did not have in their own movies. The viewers enjoyed this as much as the makers. We can expect an improvement in the next festival. BTW - is this an annual event?
To all the winners,
Could you all write a post on IView of your movie makingexperience, how you got the idea, how did you do it finally, any anecdots during it et all…it would be a fun read
Good Idea OM,:)>-
Shekhar i have sent you an email mentioned in your blog…please check it thanx
too bad the festival is over… i am feeling a gloom that happens once some really joyous occassion comes to an end…
:(
CONGRATS TO ALL THE WINNERS AND THANKS A MILLION FOR WHO MADE THEIR FILMS AND SENT TO PFC FOR SUBMISSION.
WOW … WAS EXPECTING ONLY ABOUT 20 - 30 FILMS BUT 124 !!!
DAMN !!!
CONGRATS ONCE AGAIN TO EVERYONE
congrats!
and who are the lucky filmmakers whom these winners have chosen to do their internships with?
Hi,
Being a silent film-maker in this festival, I enjoyed every bit of this festival. Thanks for watching my 2 movies. We (as a team of Cacography and De-Ice) are very grateful for your appreciation and respect your fair criticism about our work.
Would like to thank a ton to the organizer of this festival. There were very prompt about the schedule of the festival. Moreover they displayed my low profile work for the world to see, which itself is heartening to any film-maker.
Lastly, Hearty Congratulation to all the winners.
Regards,
Suraj Nair
(Film-Maker : Cacography & De-Ice)
@ Shekhar Shimpi..wud love to see an article from you too dude…i absolutely loved your work…Suraj Nair..it was really very good learnign experience to everyone, the filmmakers and the organisers as well….hopefuly next year will bigger and badder…hehe…Are you guys sharpening uo for Ronin and Pitcher?
Also, Varun Vishwanath…if you are reading this can you send me a test mail at cinemaismypassion (at) gmail(dot)com. i have somethign to talk to…
congratulations to all! and Kudos to the PFC team!
I haven’t watched all the movies yet among the ones that I did watch I liked quite a few.
@Kabir
‘Dolly’ is excellent! but what was that note about girls ‘learning’ about sex from their cousins?!!!
Wow! Congrats!
All of you winners and workers,
Dolly especially is so well made.
Kabir I get the ‘Brahmand’ bit
and agree about family members being the common culprits but not as in rite-of-passage but usually in the form of incest or rape.Calling it inevitable is criminal though.
If all this thinking went into the film, it has probably helped it somehow but frankly I could NOT see the ‘lust’ in bhaiyya’s eyes….
Safat bhai: Khamma gaNi! Went to K N College and lived in Ratanada for a few years, wonderful to see Jodhpur out there as a winner.
Kasla Kay: Farmers’ suicides in Vidarbha/AP etc is so tragic and of course the media has moved on …. thank you so much for this Ranjit.
K
congratulations to the winners !!!!! keep at it! PFC rocks!
