PFCOne 2007 : Day Three
oz | Exclusive | December 3, 2007 at 12:02 am
Welcome to Day Three of PFCOne 2007… to give you an idea of what went behind the scenes to make this festival a success –
We began with 6 volunteers who worked their asses off, and another 6 who were called upon to help us at one time or the other.
An estimated total of over 200 hours went into the making of this festival.
More than 400 telephone calls, about half of them between the USA to India.
over 450 emails.
More than 20 leading publications in India supported this endeavour by putting PFCOne in their pages including two (or was it three?) television channels.
About 60 Gigs of hard drive was burnt up and about a dozen hosting firms’ heads were eaten up by us in trying to find the best possible solution for serving these videos in the limited budgets we had.
And in the end we have 124 films. 124 people who simple picked up the challenge to crank these movies out. Exhausted? Yeah! Ready to crash? Nah… not yet… there’s two more days of dreams to relish
So here goes the movies scheduled for Day Three… Enjoy!
A Day In The Life Of India
This movie has been taken out of the festival. The movie was found to be on YouTube and it goes against the guidelines and rules of PFCOne.

welcome day 3
What a brilliant start to Day Three… ‘A Day In The Life Of India’. Awesome awesome work Varun. The sound recording is also too good. The slight static in the sound towards the end, marvellous. This one really caught me unaware.
Looking forward to the rest now…
PS: My only concern was the rather obvious looking iPod headphone… but.. forgiven…
watched it a second time right now and still feel this is the best so far…
Oops… first time it didnt allow me to comment saying i had commented the same thing before… anyways…

this thing is getting better with age:d/
check out the earthly artisans for a piece of sunlight…
The Strive Against Impression is also very good :-? take on life… interesting camera work and very brave (though much explored previously) concept…

hahaha ….couple of uninvited hosts in the comment above
letterbox(0)…..mein x ( …got converted to x(
lot of unnecessary, unintended bows in the end….by mistake
De-Ice – Awesome background score. Did Prashanth Pillai actually make this bgm?
Ge-Next – Short and maybe a little too short… The poster of the movie itself could send the message across. Though i liked the way the camera turns around…
Gilli Danda – Talk about 2hr 50 minutes titles for a 3hr movie…
Jadoo – What the…..
K?K?K? – Nice concept…
Last expression – Quite funny…
Pasi – Just wanted to know if you folks helped those kids or dogs in anyway during the shoot…

The Earthy Artisans – Another great BGM… Ishan Ray… too good if its original… nice photography (still)…
Vienna is so Bolly – Thank you for the info…
among the few film I have seen till now, I liked the Film GENEXT though
Itch and A Day In the Life Of India..the best films of the day.
yeah i agree with that..”A day in the life of India” and “Itch” are extremely well made. But also add “Kab Kahan Kaise” to the list.
Among few of the flims that I saw ‘The Strive against impression’ appealed me the most. It a movie with good mixture of time and our vision. The movie really makes people to ponder on their personality….
A real good work by Arnab… Keep it Up..
Cheers,
Samantak.:)>-
a day in the life of india…bad move…last expression…My favs..
also..a special mention to
Letterbox(0)…the conversation between two letterboxes…i think its good movie…also listen to the dialogue…u can make out that the two letterboxes…Lalli & Haria… i think the maker wants to show the neglected letterboxes in todays e-age.
good effort…nice conversation….and the end
“chalo taazi hawa to aayi saans lene ko” says it all.
Itch
by George K. Antoney
A thief who runs away from the cop decides against it when he is faced with an irresistible itch.
AWESOME!!!!!
‘A day in life of india’ is a good effort, but gajraj rao has done somethin similar 4-5 yrs back.
Am not trying to undo varun’s efforts, i guess its not original. All the best.
itch was sexy man !!! too good
yep a day in the life of india is good but a siliar concept has been explored as a PSA on respect your national anthem.. i think directed by bharat bala
Itch…. awesome!!!!!:d/
hey suchita
it wasn’t bharatbala but gajraj rao of code red who filmed it…cent percent
Shekhar WTF was Jadoo… after you made such a great short….such a drastic difference in two films from the same person
may be you are right…perhaps you are.. yes it was code red…. a moron gave me a wrong info…the beggars standing up for the national anthem as it starts raining..thanx
The three days on PFCOne have been quite eventful. I will not try to rate films as lot of heart has gone into each film and every film has got some thing or the other to say. Great effort by all the participants. I will only enlist the names of the film I found interesting and made impact (Not ranked and Plain messages or docus and my films excluded);
Day 1: Game, I want to see…, KLPD, Mind’s eye, Mobile Phobia, Puddle Jumper, Rolled Urge and Sky Ship.
Day 2: Antonyms, Cacography, Dolly, Endless Xpktations, Missing, Resume, Terror on…, Vijay
Day 3: A Day in the life.., A piece of Ind…, Itch, KKK, letterbox
My best so far (from 3 days): Endless Xpktations
Hi..folks…I liked a “a day in the life of india” and also the “itch”.
Their were a few films that were picturised nicely…but they seem more to be in the documentary catagory..like the “DE-ice” and the “Earthly artisans”.
Kab?Kaha?Kaise…is also a good attempt.
Now a little about my film….BAD MOVE
About what i intended in that film.
I have mixed the past and the future in the storyline and brought it to the present…it was a sort of experimentation….Friends do give me your critized comments on whether such facts are noticable…..
great cheers!!!!!
suchita and aam papad ….
is it the video in which a crippled man stands in attention in respect of national anthem ….and seeing this the other guys (shoe polish guys and not beggars if i am right) stand up ….
Gili danda, needs a special mention. the first 30 seconds are the begining title.. right from the production controller to manager and the last ten seconds are the rolling title… thank you notes, yet the guy has managed to tell the story in between few seconds… bravo^:)^
you are absolutely right anand kadam.. crippled man yes.. let me check on you tube
Jadoo wud hv fitted in a 5 sec film fest as well..
Saved 55 secs of precious audience time.
i was wondering ..most of the movies liked by ppl are the ones in which some message is given …….is it important for a movie to have some message…or is it just that ppl get emotional and attached and so it stays with them …..hmmm….i had no intentions of giving message in my movie (Mind’ eye) just a story …….
bigo anad kadam..
sahi pehchana
ha ha ha aam papad.. good one
@aam papad…
Kya sahi pehchana ..about the video by gajraj rao or abt movie with messages thing …
thats not true lot of people have liked “terror at the drive in show”
suchita ..exceptions are always there ..i was just saying that ppl have a slight more inclination to movies with social messages than just a story ….
@Anand,
is it not right also?
basically (mostly) audiences are exposed to short films which are made to advertise something and mostly they are to propogate some message or to fulfil social awareness kind of motives.
Moreover while in long films maker has a liberty to keep anything and everything, in short film one has to follow “To The point” procedure and that can be the limitation as well as vast scope also for creative message.
After all Kabir’s two liners Dohas do what 1000 Pages books cant do and short always have deep meaning so we all search some meaning in shorts.
Gagar mein sagar!
the quote in te beginnng of your film s damn cool, if you talk to god you are praying if god talks to you …. who is the quote by? you know the name..
i have no idea suchita ..actually my wife found it somewhere on the net …. i thought it was cool so added at the beginning of my film ….:)
@ RK,
I am not saying its wrong ….but i think if there is a movie without message and is equally good as some other movie with message ..then ppl tend to like the other one more …whereas both the films should be equally liked …..(I am not comparing anyone’s work here) …just a pov
@Anand,
No no friend, I have not taken it as wrong POV. Your POV has brought a very interesting take before me. I am simply trying to understand the message born out of your comment.
I am in to the more generalized scenario.
Short or small, mere terms bring some attention before us and we are more alert – while making or while watching it.
When its matter of lengthy then we are relaxed and think we have enough time but short puts immediately us on stake.
Perhaps unknowingly short carries some meaning because its very difficult to make a short which has no meaning. Because concept of making is hidden behind mostly in one liner thought and it always has some message. It may be an emotion, or general topic affecting lives of many.
Even Puneet Gupta’s funny shortie KLPD has some message:)
Vienna is so Bolly is by product and there is no effort to make it than to edit some shot material and there is no pre planned idea behind this shortie so there is no message in its loose structure and only impression is there that West is now liking Hindi cinema’s one face which has music and hangama. Rest all the films seemed to be are woven around some concept or other.
Well a great start to the 3rd day, I must say ……
@ A Day In The Life Of India: Brillant theme I must say…..At par with the shooting
and film editing…..although the sound (which was intentionally broken)
to produce the effect , was a little weak…..I would still give a 4.5/5..
@ Birth, Food, Sex, & Death: Could have been much better ….still give 3/5
@ A Piece of Independence: Another well directed, shot, edited film….Some of the scenes touched
the heart….I give a full 5/5. Well done Abhishek….
@ Bad Move: I don’t think the caption goes hand in hand with the movie theme….Didn’t get the bad
move…..Well edited but lacks depth…deserves 1.5/5
@ Blue: Didn’t get the head or tail of what is being tried to impose by this film….
Deserves not more than 1.5/5
@ dE-iCE: Nicely edited, well represented….I particularly liked the background music……
Poor acting though, still deserves a weel deserved 3.5/5
@ Frozen Nights: Nicely started….but abruptly ended. Lacks theme…..must say atleast…
Although nice editing…..can get 2.5/5
@ GENEXT: Badly executed theme…..poor direction….doesn’t deserve more than 1.5/5
@ Gilli Danda: One of the Best I think…so far I have seen…
Beautifully edited, directed film…..deserves a 5/5.
@ Horror Movie Comedy: A total disaster …I must say…..doesn’t deserve a 1/5 even!!!!
@ Jadoo : Fultoo masti….Goes above the rating standards……
@ Kab? Kahan?? Kaise???: Well done Amiya !! Deserves a 5/5. I couldn’t cut a single ounce of a point…
Keep it up man!!
@ Last Expression: Well done Himangshu…Nicely edited, well shooted….but theme could have been more
powerful….anyway deserves a 2.5/5.
@ Itch: May be I am an amature to find out any theme in this film…….It’s above the rating standards!!!
@ LetterBox : Same for this one too……do not have any theme…atleast I couldn’t find one!!
@ Papa Hain Na: Gajendra , I could not figure the Head or Tails of what you have posted….
……..1.5/5
@ Pasi – The Hunger: Well done…..Good work in a relatively short timeframe….
Good editing, representation……deserves 4/5
@ Pseudo: Concept is good…but I think the film should have been more compact and powerful…
Anyway…good job..definitely deserves 3.5/5
@ Sawa Ser: Whta should I say……Well lack of theme…..Rate yourself man….
@ Protaganist: I just love the film…everything I must say is perfect…
One of the strongest theme……Definitely a 5/5..
@ Streetman: Good but not that strong…..Should have added some narration in the background to make it powerful!!!
3/5 will be O.K.
@ Sym.bio.sis: 4/5 will be good….
@ The Hug: Bad execution……though nice theme…..
Equally bad acting……A 2.5/5 will be justice…
@ The Begining: Good acting…..but the caption does go 180 degrees with the film…
Beyond the normal rating standards !!
@ The Murder Weapon: Damn it’s good….Nice scarcastically executed….deserves a 4.5/5.
@ The Strive Against Impression: One of the best probably……Strongest theme so far….
Editing is a little weak…anyway deserves a 4.5/5
@ Time Pass: Definitely Good time pass !!!!!
@ Two victims: WTF
Great stuff today too.
For me the films that I’d like to mention here are-
Last expression : Good acting, fluent editing and a fun portrayal of a girl interrupted.
Itch : This was very entertaining, fast paced and the expressions of the two actors were spot on.
Bad move : Switching between two points in time made for some very interesting and funny imagery.
Letterboxes ( 0 ) : Honest and interesting conversation.
Kudos!
One more day to go…
Madhav of Puddle Jumper
Hi everyone…Thanx for those liking mine (the strive against impression)..I personally did a lot of thinking while making this one so I eagerly awaiting more comments to see whether I have successfully shown what I intended to show!!!
@RK ..
judging a movie be it small or lengthy should not be based on this criteria … a film can be good without any message ….may be as a viewer we go in with a mindset while watching a small movie (as you said)…but a good critic will be equally fair to both kind of films …
sym.bio.sys
The film is about a guy who lands on this strange planet. Then like a typical human he starts to destroy everything in sight. He first destroys the balloons, and then destroys the baloon-creature. But he realises later that the balloons were the ‘trees’ of the planet and thus he dies.
The man dies at the end because he unknowingly destroyed the ’symbiosis’ between him and the balloons :D
Thanks for watching.
There is a saying in Farsi that goes – “A cat should not desire to shit like an elephant”
These are one minute films mates.
Think of the jokes that you laugh to. Set up, build expectation, pay off. And leave in a hurry.
Will post specific comments when I have a chance. I have seen quite a few of the films so far, and the above problem seems to plague most.
Grasp greater than reach.
@Anand,
Without any doubt, very true!
Not only good critic but good Jury will also watch a film first in its totallity and later will analyse which factors were more impressive and which were less.
Albeit for general viewers, viewing of a thing can be like that old story of Elephant and few blind people.Though we viewers have eyes to see but different people see different things in same piece of art because of their different understanding and experience at that given time.
Message no message if a film does not bind an audience’s attention through out the film, its failed for that particular audience.
“Message no message if a film does not bind an audience
I watched the movie “The Strive Against Impression”. The idea is very unique. But I felt the absence of background score. I will give – 5/10
saw the movies…….. think they were jst awesome…….. to b specific, each one is a masterpiece……. But to me, these two movies are the most fantastic creations……
1. A Day In The Life Of INDIA….. a really patriotic concept, tremendous video quality.
2. A Piece of Independence…….. superb picture quality, superb thinking & superb execution of thoughts.
Hi Guys,
let me tell you about my film “Jadoo”
I shot this one, with my cell phone,.
In the Animation studio where I work ,
(Toonz Animation India,.. )
we did “Hanuman Returns”,
and the guy who played Magicians roll is Animation Director of the movie,
His name is Abhilash,
He is really Magician with his skill,.Great Animator
So this film is for him,.
:)
we had fun, doing this one,.
just felt proud to b an INDIAN after seeing “A Day in The Life of INDIA”…… congrats bro…. thanks for presenting such a wonderful creation…..
i feel letterbox could’ve been done much better.. it’s a good concept.. i would’ve liked to see a different angle.. one of how letterboxes are old in fashion now in the age of technology and email. would’ve been nice if there were various shots of people clicking on the ’send’ button in their email programs.. this would’ve shown how nobody sends a regular postal mail anymore and the letterboxes feel empty and forgotten without those mails..
The best till now…….
1. K K K
2. A Day in The Life of INDIA
3. A Piece of Independence
4. KLPD
5. ITCH
6. Antonyms
7. Cacography
8. Mind’s eye
9. Mobile Phobia
10. Bad Move
Hey everybody, here’s two more, cents that is :
A Day in the Life of India – very well made even though the concept is similar to Gajraj Rao’s public ad about the national anthem
A Piece of Independence – Couldn’t understand it completely because the subtitles were cut off, but the visuals and editing looked really good.
Blue – nice concept, good writing
Genext –
Itch – funny, good editing
Kab? Kahan? Kaise? – good concept
Last Expression – nice concept and music, I think you needed a little more time.
Letterbox – nice concept (I’m saying this a lot today
), light-hearted.
Beginning – awesome acting
Genext – I just don’t agree with you …
a day in the life of India reminded me of Babel in terms of treatment, initially. if you’ve seen the film, you’ll know why. but otherwise I thought it was wonderful. very nice.
I’m very surprised from the quality of the movies we are watching, lot of its a very innovative and moderm also if they are made with few resources. I could say that these movies are very different from indian movies we usually wacth in Europe (and I’m not a commun spectator, I’m a collaborator of Forence Indian Film Festival). I hope you all will continue to make movies. I hope you will screen your movies in Europe. The idea of this festival is great, it’s a pity that there are so few directors from abroud.
Sharing our movies like we are doing now it’s also a way share new idea new points of views.
The average quality of films today is lesser than yesterday, where a Missing or a Dolly still made its mark.
The films I liked today are-:
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF INDIA
Its a nice concept. The picturisation is brilliant. The constantly moving POV of the little boy represents his curiosity beautifully. Pity I have seen it on youtube before, is that allowed? Still, a healthy-
3.5/5
KAB, KAISE, KAHAAN
Solid film. It defines a context and a scale, which might not be very large, but it uses that to the fullest. The premise may not be shocking, but there is still space for simple films.-
3/5
A STRIVE AGAINST IMPRESSION
Brilliant concept. The execution is abstract, but its unintended. Its still in the top 3 of the day for me. -
3/5
PAPA HAI NA
Mr.Shrotiya has 7 films in this fest. I have seen 5 of them, and this is the best, purely because of the mood it creates with the close-ups and that dingy music. He might be the oldest filmmaker around, but his spirit has to be saluted. -
2.5/5
- Vinod thanks for pointing it out. Yes “A day in the life of India” is on YouTube, and the festival guidelines don’t allow for this. Unfortunately we’ll have to withdraw this movie immediately.
top 3 for me today are DE-ICE, kab-kahan-kaise, and letterbox. personally not the best day of the festival. Hope tomorrow salvages everything!!!
Day 3 ends on a not so happy note as ‘a day in life of india’will be disqualified.
Hi guys,
I made “Two Victims”.
I guess this little film needs a bit of self- promotion. ;)
Mr. Bubun – Thanks for watching but “WTF” does not really tell me what you hated about it. In any case, here is a defense.
The expectation was that the audience would be able to figure out what happened from Simmi’s and doctor’s dialogues. If one views it carefully, it should all make sense.
Doctor says she has Post Traumatic Stress.
“Neo asks why does she talk to herself?” Doctor says “After the incident, she is conflicted and part of her blames herself”.
Inside, Simmi’s dialogues tell you that she had a car accident in which she killed a boy.”
She feels guilty since she was on talking on the phone and tries to convince Neo that it was an accident.
Doctor says she keeps talking to someone named Neo. To that the husband says, Simmi calls me Neo, sometimes.
When he enters, Simmi is shocked to see Neo at the door. If you see carefully, the chair behind her is empty – she sees that and drops the knife.
But the fact that I have to ask people to watch carefully means I failed inspite of good acting on the part of Simmi.
Given that almost nobody is commenting on “Two Victims” means that the film failed in communicating and connecting with the audience.
The goal was to build the tension by juxtaposing what the doctor is describing with what Simmi is experiencing precisely at that point in time.
And the twist if you can call it that is she is speaking to an imaginary person called Neo, who is actually outside talking to doc. And hence when she sees him at the door, she realises she talking to herself and drops the knife.
If you guys have the time, check it out again. It might make sense this time.
I will provide my comments on the other films of the day later today. I really appreciate the effort Bubun and others take to provide their feedback. Good or bad, feedback is invaluable.
Cheers!
-neeraj
Finally managed to watch most “films”
Only Dolly passes for a film. Well done. Choose something less complex next time when all you have is a minute. Good stylistic choices though. Lack of an ending hurt it. Vague realization/memory does not a climax make.
The Itch was the only one that had a story – set up, expectation and reversal. Well done.
The rest of y’all are killing me with your earnestness.
Amazing shorts again!!!
neway thank you guys, thank you for appreciating “ITCH” … means a lot !!!!
George k Antoney
DAY1,DAY2 & DAY 3
Best Movie – The Game
I rated Pudlle Jumper very highly but on repeated viewings, the film has lost out somewhere which I am not going to say before the results. Though the movie is still very good compared to the other entries in the festival.
Itch/Last Expression/De-ICE: youdunnit.
Now why shld the titles in Gilli Danda take up half the alloted time?? Show the game na bhailog.
I feel like the poor boy staring at my screen watching PFCOne films while the outdoor beckons….
Chipko Movement was ‘us’ against ‘them’,
yahaan par why girl hugging and why woman cutting?? Incidently liked execution, hand held
rules.
Meanwhile Flyod interrupt ho gaya khaamakhaan
K
Oh! Btw KKK is AAA with a twist. Pure MD melodrama.
Wow “Itch” is Nice and funny,
Whoa.. i should be watching YouTube a lot more it seems… Itch makes it for me for Day Three now that A Day in the life of India is off.
Ami Late or shall I put my reviews in now??!!
Shekhar, “hanuman returns,” looks cool!!!! So thats where the miniature skill comes from… good!!
Suchita, I allways love Stopmotion Animation films,. I’m working on few more concepts currently,.
And “Hanuman Returns” Animation done in our studio, but unfortunatly i didnt get the chance to work on it, I was on the other project
My reviews:-
A piece of Independence – Neat concept..straight execution – 2.5*
Bad move – Inventive but I missed the point behind it! – 2*
Blue – why should voice over explain a 1 min film?? – 1*
de – Ice – Good idea..that’s it!..1.5*
Frozen nights – Pointless – 1*
Horror movie comedy – Cute..2*

Must mention here that even titling a movie is important..that gets us viewers interested even as we start viewing and some makers have hogged screentime with the credits. Not done!
Again some movies have not been given space here. I beg for forgiveness again!!!
I have got mixed responses for my 5 films so far. I’m thankful to everyone who enjoyed them and more to those who after all the wait (buffering time)didn’t find them worthwhile. Anyways, my last two, Rashmi and Badaltey Mausam are on air today. I hope these will fare better than others. Happy viewing!
thats, cool Shekhar… best, any international projects?
… I mean better than my other films.
@Pratik
Dude…I am so glad you didn’t like Genextat all that fuckshit movie………………………….coz it was meant for the Judges.

@Devang
I have nothing against your film. Like I said I “just don’t agree with you” And besides, I have a soft corner for Pink Floyd so there’s no way you’r getting away with “we need education”!
Give this a thought : in pure grammatical English, “we DON’T need NO education” translates to “we need education”! …. Nahin?
rocking!! will view it and give my expert comments:d
Amrikan Hinglis thodi differ karti hai, nahin?
hope you get it…
@ Devang

Hi RK I want to know your views on my film ‘the nemesis’ from day 1 and ‘the strive against impression’ from day 2…
@Arnab,
Hi,
As I see, comments about the films before judges make their decision are not sending right kind of messages to some participants. And films are going to be stayed here on the posts so we can discuss films later once winners are declared.
Or if You like I can write you at your email. If its fine then will drop you mail tomorrow.:-?
@RK
Hi,
I think it was never about the competition, but about the pool of work that’s available in our country, and the madness each one has.
This forum has given us an opportunity to show 1000 and more people our work. I think that in itself is quite a trip.
It
@Kabir,
.
Wish all get your kind of wisdom
Let them win who entered for the sake of competition -
let them enjoy who enetred for the sake of sharing their work -

Horro Movie Comedy: Kenny DB is a good actor. He has a natural flair for comedy.. Nice try. :D 2 and 1/2 stars
Itch: is good. The actors and the fast paced format worked very well for the concept. would like to hear more from the makers. How they filmed it etc 3 and 1 /2 stars
The earthy artisans is simple and effective. I quite liked it. background music is okay and the presentation was crisp. 3 and 1/2 stars
@RK

:x
dE-iCE … is the pick of the day, displays the message about the global warming …. very beautifully conceptualised …
Thanks a lot, Omprakash Seresta and No.1 :”>
You’ve like Horror Movie Comedy and a couple of others have hated it. :d But that’s all right.
The story actually gets justice done to it only in a 2 minute version which I’ll upload on youtube in a couple of days. I had a reeeeaaaallyyy hard time trying to squeeze everything into 60 secs :d
The most challenging part of creating a short movie is to have an story into it… and ‘Itch’ is done it well… along with story it also has Great Acting & Superb Direction which make it one of the best piece of art for this competition.
Great work George!:)>-
GOPI and RK…what does ur initials stand for??
O, you great reviewers….
and GOPI, you should know about music ofcourse…
@Bluffmaster,
?????????????????????
Sorry did not get what do you mean by your comment!
Great work done by the upcumin directors….
Personally I loved “The Strive against Impression”,a great theme supported by good editin and background scores.
Gilli Dunda,
message for the new generation parents, good film. Excellent direction and editing.:):)BRAVO
@Gilli Dunda
The theme is well narrated,It throws light in the tension & tedious study schedules of 2days children.
Makers truly succeed in casting,editing,….etc
Though the titles seems too long GILLI DUNDA is made the story looks very strong
1)Only Gilli Dunda worth wathing
2)Doors oalso make some sense
The others ……………….
One of the best is Gilli Danda with good concept…a good message for all against cyber games…
