PFCOne 2008 Day Five – The Winners
oz | Editors, Exclusive, Festivals & Contests | January 8, 2009 at 9:09 pm
We did it!!! Second year in a row!!! PFCOne got more than 70 people to jump out of their cubicles, forget their regular day jobs, buy-rent-loan a camera and shoot a movie that they always dreamed about! The fire is lit, and now it is up to you dear participating filmmakers to fan the flames and dream… dream big!
And do keep PFCOne in your memories, as I hope to see you all with your new films, again in December 2009!
A big thanks to the Jury. They took time off from their extremely busy schedules to watch the competitive section and select the winners. A big thanks to all of them for helping us and encouraging us all the way.
And PFCOne this year would not have been possible if a few people did not jump in to help me out to organize, manage and make the second year bigger and better.
Those who volunteered this year for PFCOne…
Om, Mainak, t! – who took huge chunk of responsibilities and delivered on time.
Kartik Krishnan as always, for taking charge to ensure the movies were delivered to the jury and they see it and get back to us with their decisions… supporting Kartik were Ashish Shukla and PhoenixNu who assisted PFCOne by contacting their share of jury panel members.
And lastly the guy who’s turning out to be one of the most important behind the scenes person for PFC, watching my back and excellently handling PFC’s day to day increasing workload when I was away working on PFCOne and above all carefully and excellently managing people in and around PFC (specially during my screaming and kicking during some of the most pressure cooked times of working on PFCOne)… wb made sure PFC ran as smoothly as possible with or without me during the last few months while I was busy with PFCOne.
Thank you dear volunteers for working so selflessly and apologies for me being the biggest pain in the you know where. The bigger PFCOne gets, I’ve realized the greater are the responsibilities, pressure and stress to see everything works out smoothly and as planned. I promise I’ll get into Yoga and Meditation by the time we start the preparations for the third PFCOne late August. (this time I’m not kidding… well…)
And before I announce the winners… here’s some jury members who would like to speak to you about some of the movies…
Sriram Raghavan
Liked “Senses of an Incense” the most…for a mad idea that packs in a lot… ANNIVERSARY. the idea works. Though the film is just a minute long…it made me wonder about the story and characters. AutoM### (vasanbala) for it’s mock Satya mood. And energy, performance and some good shots. And of coz the content. Have often felt like doing something drastic to an auto driver…. GOAL (Amey M) Simple and makes it’s point… THE SHINING. K Adeep. kept me hooked. Neatly done. And climax justifies the title.
![]()
The others which i somewhat or quite liked are:
Control Freak was an interesting idea, while Nymph was a Terrific idea, liked WITHOUT CHEESE for its simple idea though i dont believe there’s a kid in the world who’d do what this kid did, still liked it
Hansal Mehta
I would like to mention that I am pretty disappointed with a lot of the entries. There is very little depth of thought, concern or simply imagination. While you have asked us to focus on content it is difficult to maintain that focus because it is quite poor. I strongly commend the effort made by all the entrants but I do wish there is improvement in the following years.
Koga – This is the only film that I have really liked. It is innovative, funny, engaging and makes a point. I am keen on getting it made again on film. Please have the maker contact me. Nymph – I liked the sense of isolation and the overall mood created by the film-maker. Who is this guy? Cannot help noticing the finesse in execution!
Goal – Despite being slightly obvious it still makes my list – for the nobility of its theme and lack of choice! Condom – I have this in my list because it made me really laugh in the end. Again it is trying to make a point without being pretentious! Auto Madar#* – Interesting performance by the protagonist. Reminds me of Anurag Kashyap! And Trailer – Interesting concept, again well-executed. Who is this guy? RGV meets his match!
Shridhar Raghavan
senses of an incense… loved it the instant i saw it… also liked anniversary, goal, without cheese and auto madar###
Shashank Ghosh
Totally enjoyed the festival and being on the jury panel!
Amole Gupte
Deja Vu Deja Vu – Nicely speard out, Fuels anticipation and pays up well in the end. Taut 60 seconder. Goal – Well represented thought. Simple and as it turns out, endearing. Johnny – Clearly the cherry on the cake. Form and content both on target. Koga can’t save you always – Side splitting and bang on target. Future of cinema is clearly in his hands. Naturaleza Muerta (Still life) – Astute. Lyrical. Nymph – Plaintive and poetic. Senses of an incense – Whacko. Resolves before you realise. The Raven – Takes you there… Trailer – Great tease. Well defined. But then… a trailer! Without cheese – Softly edged. Very detailed – enactment, word and pause.
I’m pretty positive, the jury had a tough time, the final results are very tight and close… beginning with…
Hansal Mehta’s Kieslowski Award
Koga can’t save you always by Himanshu Bhatnagar (Pune, India)
Moving on to the Top 3 winners
The PFCOne Bronze Minute for 2008
It’s a tie… between three movies!
| Auto Madar### by Vasanbala (Mumbai, India) | Nymph by Safat Ali (Jodhpur, India) | Goal by Amey Mone (Mumbai, India) |
The PFCOne Silver Minute for 2008
Without Cheese by Gajendra S. Shrotriya (Jaipur, India)
The PFCOne Gold Minute for 2008
Sense of an Incense by Sandeep.V (Bengaluru, India)
To the Winners

Introducing S.W.A.T.
The world abounds with talent. Then why are the finished products, the
movies that we see, so predictable and mundane? The answer is easy –
Stories. We watch, crib, and sit back. Rinse. Repeat.
With the successful completion of PFCOne Year 2, Passion For Cinema
has decided to offer you – Dreamer, Producer, Director, Financier,
and anyone with an idea for a movie – the skills we have in-house
to put an end to the misery of writing that perfect script.
Over the last two or so years, working on various friendly requests to
read and evaluate scripts – enhancing, and providing
suggestions and at times even building screenplays from scratch – our
team of experts have performed many “project rescue” operations with
surgical precision.
And in the course of doing that we have deployed various
organizational and management techniques, which were adapted and put to use to help producers and filmmakers around the globe.
So, without further ado… we present SWAT – The Crack Team that shall
write the most compelling stories, screenplays and dialogues for all
genres of films – Musical, Drama, Comedy, Thriller, Horror, Biopic,
Adventure, Period, Sci-Fi, Noir and other curious hybrids.
SWAT is made up of our dear authors, cherry-picked to realize your
idea. A Unique Collective of writing expertise and professionalism
that guarantees 16 weeks delivery from Idea to Bound Story and
Screenplay.
We welcome Indie Filmmakers worldwide and Regional cinema producers
from the Indian subcontinent in search of a script for any topic
they wish to make a film on. All you have to do is write that all
important mail, or make that call, for us to listen, think, ideate,
customise, draft, confer, argue, pitch, write, rewrite, and
polish stories, screenplays and dialogues for forthcoming
blockbusters!
The legalities, rules and financial terms shall be taken care of by
the Business Vertical that will be the backbone of SWAT.
Could we have a round of applause for the SWATters – Executing Passion with Brilliance.
More details on SWAT coming soon. Interested parties meanwhile, can contact SWAT for more details at swat [at] passionforcinema [dot] com

The film happened cause I was hurrying to reach your Sankalan session and i was not getting an auto and i really wanted to kill one.
Made my day.
Congratulations to all the winners and more importantly all the participants!! The fun in PFCOne is its sheer diversity and the fact that regular folks pick up the challenge of making a film.
Of course, really happy for Vasan and Gajendra.
Safat – I think the jury will soon have answer to their question – “who is this guy”?
Madhav and Shekhar: May you win all the popular choice awards in future.

and a special thank u to all jury to take out time and not just watch/select films but to also provide feedback !!!
@madhav – i loved ur films ..its but natural to feel dissappointed….but trust me …check comment 109 on day 4 post …
@ Vasan – you’re on man. Will get in touch whenever I head to Mumbai.
@PFCOne team
thanks a lot for providing us this opportunity. i cant explain these last 5 days of mine. on the last 3 days of screening, my movies were spread out. i now truly know what the film-makers must be going through when their movies release. i had butterflies in my stomach. i was so eager to read the comments. i was almost glued to the PC for the entire day.
the script that i was working for fullmarxx, went on the backburner (not intentionally) for these 5 days. i would like helping out if need be for the next PFCOne.
@Himanshu
you rock man. koga saved you this time. ;)
i loved your movie.
@Vasan, Amey, Safat
congratulations guys. liked your movies. Nymph was Safat’s best IMO. AUTO MC has the best repeat value. Goal was the best PSA IMO.
@Gajendra ji
charan kahan hain ji aapke. you are my idol ji. from last years non-competitive entries to this years Silver Minute. you inspire me. congratulations.
@Sandeep
Congratulations. i will have to watch your movie in slow-motion again. mujhe to bouncer gayi thi. sub-titles padhne ki koshish karoonga. but i loved the last scene of your flick. woh aggarbatti ko talwar jab banaya tha..
@all winners
please guys, apne experiences please batana yahan pe. we would be waiting with bated breath. make the most of this opportunity. as it is, it seldom knocks twice.
@all participants
cheer-up guys. atleast we took part. thats half the battle one. participating was the main motive for us first-timers. we will be back with a vengeance in the next season. HALLA BOL.
@OZ
you must know of the 48hfp and insomniac.
lets bring some of that fun to PFCOne too. bring a special category, where the PFC Team will give us the specifications for some characters, some props, some dialogue, or whatever you guys want, and we have to use all of that in our movie effectively. and release this list just 4-5 days before the final submissions date. this will definitely add to the fun.
damn how i could i forget this.
@Jury members
a big thanks to all of you for watching this years competitive section movies.
and again a big thanks to you all for being that ‘elusive olive branch’ which keeps us coming back year after year to this wonderful platform of PFCOne.
Amit,
Love your attitude dude..! Kudos!
Kartik, Wow. Thanks man, I replied on the Day 4 post.
OM and Vasan… you guys gonna make me cry… Thanks a lot for loving me and my film. I sincerely wish to reciprocate in all earnest… thanks a lot!!!
Thanks to OM, Mainak, KK, Pnu, Ashish, t!and all others who made PFCOne2008 such a big success.
Thanks to all who liked Without Cheese and a bit more to those who have some reservations, coz they always inspire me more to do better next time.
Thanks to all the participants. I only want one commitment from everybody that they would submit much better films next year. Take Hansal Mehta’s words by spirit. I am definitely going to do that, whether award or no award!!!
Lastly thanks to the esteemed jury who found “Without Cheese” worthy of an award.
Thanks once again and I am really very very happy to make it in the top films this year!!!
I have not checked all the comments as I am in the middle of a meeting… will get back in a short while with more…

Deven
.
I agree with almost all your awards choices
Amit Mishra
You have great ideas. You also have good friends who can act. You need a better camera & a Photography book to improve your framing. Congratulations again on making so many entertaining films for us.
Congratulations to all the winners of PFCOne 2008
I think this festival has been great, but it would have been better if the criteria for judging is made clear – Is it the story/concept? Is it the style of shots? Is it quality of video? Is the editing/smooth flow of the movie? …
I thought the festival had some really good short films… I would have loved to see Destination, Anniversary, Raven etc. in the winners list.
Anyway, it was a great effort by all participants, and we got to see some really good films … Hope there is more clarity for PFCOne 2009 in terms of judging criteria..
Congratulations to all the winners and also all the participants.
@Safat I personally liked the lyrical movement of the narrative in Nymph.
@Gajendra I loved the simplicity of your story.
@Vasan didn’t expect anything less from you :-)…
Kieslowski Award….no justification
I am really disappointed about the Kieslowski Award has gone to the film which is not at all near to the Kieslowski’s style, thinking, soul or depth. Why the PFC used the name of Kieslowski,?
I am also disappointed with the note of Mr. Hansal Mehta according to him “I would like to mention that I am pretty disappointed with a lot of the entries. There is very little depth of thought, concern or simply imagination.”
Is the Koga….. has the depth which can be justified for the Kieslowski Award. Cheap idea for cheap massege….save water….
Kieslowski is imortal for his “The Decalogue’ Series. I hope Mr Hansal Mehta have seen all of his films in that depth, which makes THE KIESLOWSKI.
I am sorry to be harsh but if this will be the standard of of selection of films by jury. Than what would be the future of the PFC’s serious talents. I found so many other films which can be a near about the Kieslowski Award. But so sorry to know that a cheap thought can won a prestigius name award like “Kieslowski”
“It doesn’t matter who you are or who I am, if your tooth aches or mine, it’s still the same pain. Feelings are what link people together, because the word ‘love’ has the same meaning for everybody. Or ‘fear’, or ’suffering’. We all fear the same way and the same things. And we all love in the same way. That’s why I tell about these things, because in all other things I immediately find division.” (KieÅ›lowski in Interview Kieslowski’s Many Colours by Patrick Abrahamson, Oxford University Student newspaper, June 2, 1995)
SatyaVrat awards are tongue-in-cheek. Nevertheless ough I stand by them. ;-)
Congratulations to all the winners. The grand awards ensures a metamorphosis for you all.
Although as a neutral audience, personally I felt that not all awards were justified; but the fact is that they were selected by such an esteemed panel of jury, and so the problem is in my eyes indeed.
Well, I hope to learn a lot of cinema in coming time at PFC.
At the cost of sounding immodest, SatyaVrat awards are by ahem! ahem! yours truly, me. ;-) (sorry Deven)

AND OF COURSE A VERY VERY BIG THANKS TO OZ… (Sorry for caps but I couldn’t put more weight here)
@Mainak
I’m not SatyaVrat, just reposted a funny and pertinent comment made on Day4 by SatyaVrat.
@Satyavrat
sorry for the confusion man, just liked your awards better hence reposted them here with due credits. I hope you don’t take any offense.
@Nitin Harsh
Agree on Kieslowski Award, the Kieslowski family may even sue pfc for using the name in this manner, looks like a big joke.
Thanks Shivajee… for noticing “Without Cheese”
All…hearty congratulations..
Sandeep, the moment I saw that movie, I knew you were going to make it..
Gajendra, you epitomise PFC..all the way..the perspiration, the grim determination, the proof that age, sex and profession does not matter to be creative…

congratulations to all the winners!!! but i still think some films didn’t get their share of appreciation and in some case the role reversal(of appreciation) has happened .. and also i feel some commercials like stuff(PSA) has been stretched to fit into films.dunno whether it is right or wrong.
but overall a gud show from PFC..lookin forward for some more interesting stuffs esp SWAT

Congrats to everyone else who participated and

next time i come to rajasthan will definitely like to meet up with you mate…
till then cheers…
awards or no awards, much like what Oz said, these guys and gals have done something that they can show to the whole world with pride and I am glad that MY PFC has provided the portal and space for that. The journey that made these awesome talents make these films automatically has made them stand out of the rest of ‘them’ – to which yours truly is included/ A ’sad and monotonous Rest of Them who have not made a film inspite of the passion and you winners and participants have shown that you have the guts to put your passion into action. These films I have watched have proven that human expression is priceless and if given an opportunity even if it is just a minute, we can paint a myriad of expressions and convey millions of things.
@Adeep: thamma short filmsugalu – Sakkath Hot Macha!!
Thanks for all for inspiring me and thanks for OZ and team for making this an event to remember and recreate time ang again.!!!
@ arun prakash…thank
@ rusted rick…lots of thank bro..i will waiting

safat.ali@gmail.com
For me , ‘The Feel Good movie maker award’(whatever that means!) goes to Kenny B. So much repeat value, I’m gonna fucking bookmark all of them. Sexy! Awesome expressions, genuinely funny, the way he tries latching the door at the top and then realizing it is not there and smiling on his foolishness. Nice touch. Haha! Kenny you made my day(s).
Thanks Arun… I too agree
Bhej diya safat bhai
Congratulations!!!

Especially
@Vasan – Auto Madar (Entertaining Cinema)
@ Safat – Nymph (beautifully shot, Very Cinematic)
and @ Gajendra- your passion for cinema pays of
_
@Hansal Mehta
I am pretty disappointed about your choice for Kieslowski award
@PFC
SWAT sounds interesting. More so because it’s an idea that is very tricky to handle…but probably with great pay-offs if done well. And i think, such an idea is worth more in Indian Film Industry rather than in Hollywood because we (in Mumbai)still work in an environment where writer is an independent (and hence unknown) entity.
Have lots of questions in mind regarding the creative liberties, IPRs, processes and board-rooms…but will wait for more details.
Hope it’s as good on ground as it looks on paper.
Tanul, ha ha ha thanks! thanks! thanks!
)
Groping for the non-existent latch at the top of the door actually happened during an initial take. So we decided to put it in (and deliberately doing it took some rehearsal
Thanks a lot for the Feel Good award. My stuff is either feel very good or feel very bad. Next year is gonna be the opposite end of the spectrum ;)
SWAT ka Swad!!!
Thanks Shekhar… there can’t be a better payoff… I am soon moving into features so this award will definitely help me acquire some much needed skills
My personal favourites (in ALPHABETICAL order)
Auto Madar$#@ (Needs a longer movie)
Destination (How’s that for impact!)
Johnny, Come Out and Play (Gosh-darned unsettling)
Nazariya (Mithunda mithunda ha ha ha ha ha)
Without Cheese (Great short story -> short film)
I also really liked
Late, Koga Can’t Save You Always (needed better actors) and The Raven
Congratulations to winners and participants of PFCone2008. Best wishes to their future efforts in filmmaking.
Congratulations to PFC also to conduct it successfully. Hopefully PFCone2008’s entries will draw more viewership in coming few days as more people will be back from winter holidays and few who have come back will get some time after finishing pending works.
PFCone2008 was better than PFC0ne2007 in one other area also. Few participants tried to push their films last year and a kind of conflict had started even before Juries could have declared their decisions. This year it was smooth.
Nothing much can be read in the effort to make one minute film and moreover motive is to encourage first time makers, who are motivated to cross the first level of desire and convert it into a real short film.
Most of the films are results of one man vision and hence show the need of a team having good writer, cameraman, director and editor. More than other departments lacking in writing was more obvious so its true there is a dire need of good writers not only in real cinema world of feature films but in short films also.
—-
This is interesting that majority of films had titles in English.
—–
Its bit sad that Raven by Shekhar Shimpi has not been selected in any category. Animation is in consideration all over the world and film had nice blending of animation and real shooting.
New effort atleast in PFCOne.
—–
Hopefully next year there are different categories and like different merits of feature films are recognised, different departments of short films will also be recognised so that if someone has done a remarkable editing but his director has not given good content and film is not selected then also he (editor) is recognised.
Slowly PFCOne will help people working in all the departments of filmmaking.

Congratulations again.
@ kenny…vakai bahut bade dushman ho mere….vese tik bhi he ..u r comedy type film maker..and i am serious type film maker….!
@ kenny ..yaar…. next year comedy film bana kar tumahara dil jeetne ki koshish karunga..!!!!!!
Congratulations to all the winners and participants …..Safat and Gajendra you guys rock ….This year we have seen a dramatic increase in quality of the films …thanks to all you guys ….and SWAT bring it ON …….
where is the gold minute winner? not heard from him since day 1. Somebody trace him yaar! does he even know he has won?
Congratulations to all the winners and a great show by the all the participants too.SWAT is a welcome development.PFC way to go !!!
I am really disappointed when I watched all the films. Many films lacked a good concept and others lacked in the technical part.
There should be a set parameter on which the films should be judged which should include camera work, lighting, script etc.
All the best for the next PFCone2009
@Safat
Lekin I hope ki tab tak aapko 35mm ka proper mauka mil gaya hoga.
:D Safat bhai, ha ha ha…main aapki films aur aapki technical skills ki bohot izzat karta hoon. Main sachchi baat boloon: main filmo ko intellectual nazariye se judge nahi karta. Agar koi film mujhmein emotion jaga sake, chahe koi bhi ho – anger, horror, laughter, and it doesn’t insult my intelligence (contradiction?), I’m happy with it.
Aapki filmein beshaq deserving winners hain, first class hain, lekin mujhe I don’t know – I couldn’t really get something out of them. Technically first class, beautiful frames and images, no doubt, but a little too abstract for my taste. It’s just my personal opinion, lekin I prefer something concrete out of a film, chahe woh vague ending ho, but solid ho.
Nymph and The Accident ke kuchh shots mere dimaag mein ghus gaye hain – unforgettable! Trailer mujhe sabse achchha laga, lekin mujhe DIL SE achchha lagta agar koi EK scene ya EK moment fully dikha dete. Again, ye aapki filmein hain, aapki marzi hai aap kaise banayein; main just apni personal philosophy jhaad raha hoon
Agli baar aap comedy film banaiyye aur main deadly serious banaunga
Thanks a lot Tony (I skipped your comment earlier on
), Kenny, Anand
guys…
i accept your criticism of the ‘kieslowski’ award.
let me clarify a few things here. it is an impulsive choice to name this special award after my most beloved film-maker. he is a major influence in my life and is in many ways responsible for my making films. however, what is important is the not the name of the award but the thought behind it. i just wanted to provide whatever support i could to one of the selected films by providing production support and technical help to the film-maker. choice, likes, dislikes are subjective. koga is my choice and i stand by it. i suggested this award hoping others will follow suit in the following years.
i am proud of pfcone and pfc and all that it has achieved and i try my best to be a humble contributor to this wonderful forum. thank you for being critical of this award. it shows how much it means to you guys.
keep up the spirit friends.
hansal.
@hansal mehta
Kieslowski’s ghost will be after you my friend, be very very careful the next time you find yourself in a toilet alone… (check Safat Ali’s ‘Accident’ for proof)
Great movies and wonderful judgement!! Appreciate the whole stuff on PFC!! Congrats to all the makers and the winners!! Thanks PFC for SWAT…I’ll be there…

Congratulations to all the winners!!!
@hansal mehta
hey, just a joke, you are totally entitled to give the award to whoever you want, just that Kieslowski’s name feels a bit odd in this particular context…that’s it, otherwise it’s okay.
@ kenny …bhai ple…serious film mat banana…u r star of comedy..pfc wale mujhe galiya denge..main nahi banaunga..comedy…!!!!
tum pyare mast aadmi ho mast raho..mast film banao…!!!! i love u r kungfu..karate..!!!really i am not joking..!

And congrats to OZ n team for the outstanding management of the festival..i seriously doubt if OZ has slept a wink in the last 5 days. OZ take a well deserved rest n then unleash SWAT !
Congrats to all the winners! And to all those who didn’t win, don’t lose heart. There’s always another opportunity, another idea waiting to be filmed.
And also congrats to oz and his team for staging yet another successful round of PFCOne.
I would love to contribute to SWAT in whatever way possible, looks like a really interesting concept.

The message of ‘without Cheese’ is a straight lift from one of the ‘Chicken soup for Soul’ books.
instead of a small girl buying a small icecream and leaving a tip we are shown a burger here..wow original!
- To all filmmakers who participated in PFCONE: You all rock!
Some of you have made films before, most of you picked up the camera and went through the filmmaking process for the first time. It takes immense heart and guts to decide to make that first film, go out and ask friends to trust you and act in it, to cut it and finally show it off.
To bare yourself to the public, to their criticism is no easy talk. So I salute you all for that!
That said, I hope PFCONE also offered you all constructive criticism which encourages you to make even better films!
- To Oz: A great mind, you are a visionary on more levels than I can count. I wish I could have been of more help/support and I will try my best to be this year.
- The Entire PFCONE team: great job! All the time you have put in shows. Congratulations.
- Jurors: Thanks for your support and time! I wish in the following year, the jurors try to offer their feedback and constructive criticism on as many films showcased as possible so everyone can see what they see and learn accordingly.
- THE WINNERS: The moment you guys begin your respective internships with these superb filmmakers, please immediately open your diaries on PFC and share your experiences with the readers. You can play a very important role in encouraging more and more people to look at the entertainment industry as a career option!
Hi,
Thanks the jury of PFC! We as a team of ‘Sense of an Incense’ are feeling so proud, although I had put all my expectation on the mouth organ which I lost lately, I want to thank it wherever it is breathing!! Thanks to Sandeep for his craziest and weird thoughts! PFC is doing a great job in changing what motion pictures mean. We will come back with more and more folds of imagination!
Congratulation to all the participants and the Winners.
Thanks.
Sense of an Incense…. I loved the movie and the narration as I had mentioned in my earlier post… nice to know that it received the award…. I also like auto Madar#### by vasan bala…..well executed…. for the other makers I am happy that they found a platform to show their talent and get an audience as well… good job everyone.. waiting to see more interesting ideas
I could read this post only now…kinda late I guess..all thanks to a biz trip! But in any case, wanted to Congratulate all the winners and also add in a last round of ‘Thank you!’ to the PFC organizers for making this happen! Had it not been for this, I too would not have made a film like many others here plus we would not have had such a fun 4 days! My friends, family and I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the movies over the last four days and everyone has done a great job!
I also would like to add just my two cents worth on some of the comments I saw here regarding how the films were not technically top notch and were raw etc. At least in my case, if you guys were expecting some technically brilliant film with proper lighting, audio etc etc… I would not have bothered to submit anything, simply because I do not have the knowledge or resources to do so. What I loved about PFC was that it was accepting even films made with handphones and that was the very reason why it was a dream come true… because it was a platform for all of us who had an idea but could not translate that to a technically perfect film.
I don’t know whether the format and expectations would change in the coming years… I surely do hope not… In any case, thank you once again!
@shilpa – PFCOne clicks because of its unique format and clear intentions. That is not going to change. Otherwise, geniuses like you, Tarvinder, Amey, gajendra shall not be uncovered.
Look at Gajendra. An amazing 7 films last year and 2 this year and already one wins. He is thinking of a feature. This is the true success of a short film fest. The ability to convince oneself and others that this medium holds something, a glimmer of creative hope. That one can make it here.
People who critical of quality forget one thing, these 70 people did not wait for any producer and crib about the state of Indian cinema. They just went ahead and did something. However they felt was best.
So, Oz and co. Shall do the same thing next year again. But consolidate the structure even more so that makers, jury and viewers enjoy more!
@OZ
whatever happened to
My Past, My Present by Inder Salim (Delhi, India)
number 9 in the schedule for day 4?
‘Without Cheese’ although a well-made film, is – as someone already pointed out, a straight lift from a Chicken Soup tale.
I have not looked at the website in detail, but a cursory glance tells me that I could not find the source credited by the short film.
It’s bad enough Bollywood flicks scripts without crediting them, I think it shows both PFC and this contest in poor light if the so-called indie filmmakers did the same.
As I said, I think it’s a well-made film and probably deserves an award – but a citation is a citation, especially when it is as blatant as this.
@ 95 (hemetic), I had commented the same at following post, comment # 107.
http://passionforcinema.com/pfcone-2008-day-four/
.
I am not sure, does PFC One has a policy of having only original story ideas? Otherwise, the award is valid.
.
Congratulations to all the winners and wishing them all the best in their future endeavors.
And kudos to the PFC team for successfully carrying out this amazing festival!!
Tarvinder, May i have ur email id man?
nice festival and kudos for your efforts..
but the entries are routine, nothing that grabs your attention or stays with you…
Congrts Himanshu!!!!!!!!!
You Truly dserv this and we know this very vell tht only you deserv this award.
Hats off to yur soul thought and your hard work…
Great work and good luck for you Directiona career
I actually agree with Hansal…overall, the level looks pretty low. I’d have expected far better movies with some depth.
Still, Nymph, Goal and Without cheese were good ideas.
Auto Madar… was executed nicely, reminded me of RGV cinema though.
congrats to the winners!
hey vikas (105)
my email id is
tarvinder86 at gmail dot com
hope to hear from you
congratulations again to all the winners
thanks again to all the organizers
To Oz and whosoever else is in charge of the PFC One short film festival… first up I’d like to congratulate you guys for encouraging anyone & everyone to pick up a camera and make a film. To encourage aspiring film makers as well as film enthusiasts to flex their creative muscles is no mean feat.
But the fact that the award winning and supposedly ‘best film’ as judged by the film maker jury (though I admit ‘Sense… Incense’ is a pretty good film) is plagiarized completely in terms of narrative. Its surprising than, because the people behind the festival knew of the existence of the original film (there is even an article on it on PFC http://passionforcinema.com/rahim-murge-pe-mat-ro/#more-6640), ie RAHIM MURGE PE MAT RO by Devashish Makhija & Rajat Nagpal, but still didn’t do anything about it.
I could have understood if the original film was something obscure or not known widely on the internet and the organizers knew nothing about it. But being in the know, knowing the film maker and noticing the similarity and still allowing the Plagiarized to contest is very disappointing behaviour.
The original film was a part of The International Filminute Festival in August 2008. it was one of the best films of that festival and was short listed in the top 3 but ultimately didn’t win. Paul Haggis was a part of the jury & he felt that it was the best film for him.
The PFC team has started a good thing but should be really careful of not making such mistakes in the future.
@Gautam…i hav seen the film by devashish n rajat. but i dont think its plagiarism. because the format is very very old. many short films hav used the same format. if u google or go to utube, u will find many films that r first person account smilar to rahim murga n senses of incense and moves in similar fashion n is not about human beings. and i think senses of incense is much better film that rahim murga. no, m not biased cz its pfcone film. btw, had d same discusion with a friend few days back.
@Phoenixnu
“Senses of an Insense” maybe a better film for you as well as lots of others, but that wasn’t the point i was making. maybe u could name some of the similar narrative films u’ve seen, which i could search on utube etc. i haven’t seen too many films in the short/experimental genre.
but the fact is that the playful voice-over tone, edit cuts, shooting style, choice of background score, everything seemed to remind me of “Rahim Murge”!
Just a query to the Mr. Hansal Mehta & other Gudges….That did they also watched the films not selected for the competitive category???
A reply would be highly appreciated.
@ gautam
In the age of internet all that you said is possible.
But brother, i tell you,the “Senses of am Incense” was not made just to compete or to participate.We all had dreams in heart and PFCOne inspired us to hold the camera and realise those dreams.
We just used common sense to realise the idea that was inspired by life.We are no technicians.We are just lovers of the art.
We wanted a original music.My friend Vineith had learnt mouth organ on his own and composed the music individually ,just having heard the story and duration.
Having a handy cam, i just point and shoot ensuring the idea is not lost.Editing is straight.
The narrator Bharath has worked for mad ads team for atleast 4 years and won in most of them.
His narration style just comes out naturally.No suggestions or interference while recording voice.
Even with the art,Maria sketched out a warrior on her terms.It just added to immortality of the incense…
All of us were individual, though we were working as a team.Nobody altered anybody.Imitation was never in our minds.
@Phoenixnu
Thanks for appriciating the work.
@Sandeep.V.
Hey brother,
let me clarify that i’ve NO PROBLEM with your extremely sweet lovely film nor with you. i hope and pray that u make many more films and succeed at every level.
@Sandeep.V
my problem was with the organisers which i mentioned in my earlier message,No.110.
congrats to all the winners !!
just one quick question. the video quality of Sence of an Incense is not good and I dont understand the language, so i m not able to read the subtitles. can someone please help me figure out what the guy is saying..
@ PFCONE
Firstly i want to thank PFCONE for providing me the oppoptunity to explore. Secondly for appreciating and screening my film ” THE SEARCH” during the festival. Since this was my first time and a learning experience for me, so definately will come up with more creativity the next time.
Congratz to all winners!
“just one quick question. the video quality of Sence of an Incense is not good and I dont understand the language, so i m not able to read the subtitles. can someone please help me figure out what the guy is saying..”
Exactly my point. i didn’t understand what’s being said, what’s being shown and what was written. For technical reasons.
