GLOOMY TARUn…..
day 2 ROCKS even more
Love Snapshots.
FUCKKKKKKKKKk…amazing..Day 2 starts…this is like a party mann!!
OMG….superb!!!!!
Post It..shilpa…awesome job, woman!!!
Striker..tu king hain…awesome..best shot film so far…you covered so many locations in one min..hats of
Scents of an incense..god damn funny..superb superb..
Sekhar Shimpi…u r something else..janaab aapke paaon kidhar hain?
@ Sandeep: to me incense makes the most sense. loved it bro.
cheers to all the participants! fantastik efforts!
Though it gets slightly predictable, Karthik Srinivasan’s Anniversary is quite a nice watch! Good job… very well shot and edited…
simpi sir, koi AD vagerah chahiye tho is naacheez ko bula lijiye. as an avid poe fan, dil khush ho gaya.. YOU EVEN FUCKING MADE YOUR ACTOR LOOK EXACTLY LIKE POE!! the resemblance is unbloodycanny, and goddamn.. the repeat value on your film is ridiculous!
wish sense of an insense didn’t go by so fast.. subtitles were hard to read and cuts were too fast.. i could only pay attention to one or the other
sobre la hierba lost the subtitles at the end, and i couldn’t follow..
I had to compromise on Voice Over because Eros guys did not allow me to use the 2 lines from Gulzar saab’s poem.
Here is the original version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1xQ5zuNpNQ
and here is the making
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jziz-P9Raes
Inspiration: Christopher Nolan.
Very nice Shekhar Simpi… not a fan of the music but you have been able to rustle up a great mood in those few seconds… Kudos!
Sobre la Hierba by Carlos Aravena… Brilliant, brilliant stuff! What poignancy in one minute, what thehrav… My fave film so far… Very very good…
Senses of an incense…brilliant..i loved it more coz i can undertstand kannada…for non-kannada speakers..the subtitles would be too fast and the shadowing was not too bright..nevertheless superb effort..brilliant concept.
Blackout- liked the music and the photography, not so much the older guy
Anand, Liked the twist in the end…wicked
@om: u know kannada! sahi hai… u r right abt the subtitles aint legible…
@Anand: Kathor! Khoda pahaad nikla maggi hot n sweet tomato chilli sauce!! way to go!!!
COMPETITION
aahh could have done with some editing, didnt get some of the dialogues thanks to my idiotic speakers
@ kartik: ur film (anniversry) seems too rich to be in PFCone. aisa laga ki cut to swiss alps mein shiffon serenading hone wala hai! wondering how u managed the YRF rich look n feel.
I second Magik(20th comment)
Kartik please share the details. Camera used and other techniques.
vasan, pratimda, OM, dpac, thx bhai log.. magik, i got lucky with a good DP who had access to a good camera. i got even luckier when my DP knew how to edit and make it look nice. when i double up as DP and editor with a crappy camera, you get “late” (as in film number 7).
the anecdote behind “late”, which is actually a better film to me than “anniversary”, is that i made it for PFCOne2007. in classic fashion, i was late in submitting it before the deadline, so i held off for a whole year and decided to resubmit for 2008 since it didn’t get accepted in 07. the title i think is quite apropos, no?
CHALTI
sorry didnt like it, too mushy for me
LATE
oh god so this is the secret behind the flourishing business of the video libraries…hahahaha solid tha bhai
Anand Kadam..wicked is the right word…wicked..i guess the film is your story…you being dark and all french film waalah. before marriage and then your wife bringing in a softness to your persona..lol!!
mast pichhar hain bhai
@ Tarun: waqt hi shayad khuda hai.. liked ur attempt…
xion, the camera we used was the panasonic HVX200
http://dvxuser.com/articles/HVX200/
cool thing about it was no tapes were needed.. it took P2 cards, roughly the size of those PCMCIA cards that came with a modem port back in the day for laptops, and looking thru the footage was as simple as clicking a ‘next’ button (similar to the ‘next chapter’ button on your DVD remote control), so basically the frames recorded could be skipped thru instead of rewinding thru the footage.
the tracking shot of the girl in the office was used with plastic piping i had bought from the hardware store a few yrs back and a dolley which had been left behind by a friend of mine a couple of yrs back while working on another film.
as for the locations, we covered them all in one day and they were all within 45mins of each other. the entire film was shot in 12hrs, 10 of which were shot one day, and another 2 the next morning. hope this helps..
@ Xion.. can you please explain why your movie was uploaded on youtube before the pfcone? This was against the rule
http://www.youtube.com/user/kuliitk
Thanks for bringing it to our attention… We are removing Kuldip Patel (Xion)’s Chalti from the festival for violating our PFCOne filmmaker participation policy.
My picks for the day are Raven, Anniversary and On the Grass (Sobre..) in that order.
Shekar Shimpi – Capital! Great show!! Congrats… and special thanks for choosing Poe.
Carlos Aravena – Your movie is a visual poem, Senor. Hats off and three cheers!! I felt the narrative could have been a bit less abstract though. Afraid the common viewer may not *see* the *closure* you intended to show. That said, gracias por la great show!
Striker – Simple, straight forward and satisfying – which is what one expects from a good movie. Fantastic job!
@ kartik: even Late is so coooool… dat looks more like a PFCOne entry. wink. i like. i like.
Sandeep – Ondu nimushadalli entha bombattu picturannu tegididdira swami. Congrats! Aadre, subtitles bagge innu swalpa jagrathe vahisa bahudagittu. Aa ota… hoduvadu swalpa kashtavagide.
Sense of Incense was cool… i love the narration..great job… but i think the essence of the narration is lost in translation in the subtitles… not as effective as the narration….anyways kudos
shekhar..great yaar ..maja aa gaya..!!!!!!!
‘anniversary’ is also nice ..in one minut ..lot of shots..!
i liked ‘blackout’, nice message. the lighting could’ve been better.
‘chalti’ was also good, so bad that it violated the terms.
‘late’ was good. it reminded me of one short film from the reality show ‘on the lot’, where the guy forgets bringing anything for his anniversary, and runs to get flowers. on his way he stops a robbery, saves someone, et al. but liked the twist, silly, but still brought a smile.
‘haste makes waste’ could have made a good statement, but nothing was visible on the screen after the guy gets on his bike.
‘matrubhasha’ shows us a mirror.
Loved ‘moon gary’. well done Neeraj. was laughing hard. just one question though, were they room-mates or househelps?
in the Competitive Section, ‘the anniversary’ was brilliant. loved it Karthik.
‘Gloomy Sunday’ was the second best for me. nice job Tarun.
‘Sobre la Hierba’ was a bouncer for me, but loved the single continuous shot. it looked so beautiful.
sorry shekhar bhai, am not versed in the works of Poe, so cannot appreciate your work. ‘the raven’ too was a bouncer for me.
@rusted rick
not your speakers fault. the dialogues are actually muffled at some places. it looked just about ok in the avi format i had, but conversion to flv made matters worse i guess.
Have you guys noticed this year that so far the films have been technically brilliant than last year and some of the fillums have gone over me head?!
Thank you all; for Watching!!!

If you like my film, Then I’ll make more!!!
-
Now I’ll watch all the Movies, Sahi
My picks
1. Raven
2. Gloomy Sunday
@blackout – hmmmmmmmmmmm nice
@more sorrow – didnt like it … too sympathy evoking ….
@inevitable – liked the idea of the man trying to hide his imminent death from his wife … nice
@competition – hahahahahahahahahahah ..loved the idea ..could have been shot better and major problem for me was the dialogues … sound thoda better hota toh sunai deta dhang se dialogue ..a genuinely different black humored attempt on the issue
@rounds around us – i could see a guy with camera on the globe :P nice documentary ..nice feel good music …liked the end lines …and WOW kudos for making the film on a mobile phone
@chalti – decent …liked the VO … i wish that should have been from start to end … may be something like Dad reading a letter to his dead daughter … or how life is after the girl’s death ..could have been better …. but it has been disqualified …so cant say more ….
@late – Striker ji ..loved the idea ..the lead guy could have been better … nice twist …
and skeleton key ehhhh self promotion saale ???
@haste – one shot idea was nice ..but film could have been better
@conspiracy – samjha nahi :( couldnt hear the dialogues …. bad acting too
@matrubhasha – good intention …execution could have been better ..the accented kid was nice
@tunnel – well shot … nice ..liked it … i saw codered films logo ..how is gajju bhayya associaited with the film ?
@moon gary – hahahahahahahhahaha LOL liked it “please bol” ….
@anniversary – well made … liked it … great work by u and deepti ….
btw – striker saale ..did bhabhiji see this film !!! Dance pey chaance maar liya tune saale
@Raven – well made …mixed animation and real time shooting well …. was phoonkh an inspiration/reference point ? i didnt understand it at all :(
@sobre – well made ..liked it didnt get the end ..felt towards the end subtitles were missing
@post its – Liked the idea …. WELL MADE ..SOLID …(and ref to yesterday’s comment- yes im the same kartik krishnan from auto madar) nice acting by the guy …didnt get it at first ..read the premise and then liked it more …
@snapshot – reminded me of the korean/asian horror films .. was waiting for the story/twist to unfold :(
@gloomy sunday – bad acting by the lead in the church …. the running shot was nice though …
@senses of incense – personal fav from the day ….. LOVED THE EMOTIONED NARRATION . … EVEN THOUGH I CANT UNDERSTAND A WORD OF KANNADA …. If u had reduced the fast motions a little and made say even 1 min 15 sec film ..it would have been perfect
btw – have u seen this film ??? found it quite similar to urs ….
http://www.filminute.com/2008/screeningroom/index.php?id=21
Lovely …superb ..waiting for day 3 ..and sorry if i offended anyone with my harsh comments …
Rick, Magic ..Thanks
Om …actually its the other way round
Karthik Srinivasan ,
Late was the movie of the day for me ….its an perfect example of a one min film imo….i found it more intersting than the anniversary (which is a nice little film) ….
@kartik krishnan
Hell no, I didn’t see ‘Phoonk’.
My Inspiration and Refrence is from Poetry,
Film is based on Poem, so I use copuple of abstracts elements from the Poem.
(I want to prepare short (one min) article on Making of ‘The Raven’, like last year.)
The raven is the most visual film of the day …what images yaar …loved it …Shekhar Shimpi if possible please explain the process and thoughts behind this …..
Striker,Like your films
Anniversary and Late;
@Annivarsary – Sleek and sexy
@Late – Love this one, aapka role jabbari hua hai,.
Skeleton key looks nice too
(AD chahiye)
@ Amit: yaar in ur film – competition, though i liked the wit, sound ka locha hai… hard on the ear… scene kya hai?
@inevitable – Anand Great Idea yaar(did you write it for Short story?)!!!
@Senses of Incense – I liked it even though I didnt understand Kannada, it goes very well with the language.
@Post it – Shilpa, Nicely done senti film,love the Credits design.
@ Anand,
I would love to share the Process and Thoughts behind the film.
@Kartik (and Sandeep)
I also found the styling (and in some parts, narration) of ‘Incense’ similar to the ‘murge pe mat ro’ film u mentioned.
But in any case, it’s one of the best made films in the 1st 2 days. The pace, quirkiness, and detailing (even in a docu style) are superb.
@Vasan
Good stuff man…the weirdness of the situation was the USP…though i felt, a couple of auto-waalas didn’t react as naturally and also, the ‘gravity’ of the situation didn’t come across visually (it did come through the background dialogues). Kartik was a good choice though…those eyes!
@ Shilpa
loved both ur shorts…clarity of thought is well reflected in the neatness of execution.
@ PFC (Oz)
Is there a brochure (link) where we can read the film synopses/concept note (which must have been submitted by the makers)…as most of the films are going over my head and a brief (of non-Superman kind) would aid well.
@ Amiya: It took me one film on PFCOne to appreciate / acknowledge / feel proud of / take ownership of my mother tongue – Senses of an Incense by Sandeep.V. Thank you for rubbing it in further. Salut!
@matrubhasha – Amiya, Important Topic for the film, Nice cast for kid
sorry to say but I found day 2 to be ridiculously dull…looks like people wanna play it safe by issues such as muslim terrorism and photography…huh…nevertheless a few films stand out amongst the bunch,,,
LATE
The inevitable
Gloomy sunday..
Deja vu Deja vu,,from Day 1 is still the best one..
I forgot to Thanks to my team members,
Paul Thomas for Editing and
Shailesh Ramgir for acting as POEt, without them, I couldnt finish this film on time.
-
@Constantin – Snapshot has your Trademark filmstyle, cool, where are you dude?
The Tunnel by Soumendra Padhi is AWESOME. No make that FUCKIN AWESOME. y it aint in the competitive section is kausing khalbali in my khopdi ki jhopdi… answers anyone?
From today’s lot, I liked The Inevitable and Late for the twist, Tunnel for its visual appeal and message, The Anniversary for its story and camera work and Post Its for the idea. The Raven was a different experience though. Rest of the films were good attempts and I wish them all the best for their future works.
Still catching up on all the films, but here are some thoughts on the ones I saw:
The Raven
Kickass, expected something like this from Shekhar. The poet guy was great, so were the transitions and smart use of different media. Lovely use of sound too.
More Sorrow
Good concept but could have been better off with a closer and more stable camera.
The Anniversary
One of the better shot and executed films. Quite a template for the direction in which the films should move, in this genre.
Blackout
Good concept.
# Senses of an Incense
Loved the shots, but unfortunately couldn’t understand a word…if only you had made better subtitles :(
GLOOMY SUNDAY-
well didn’t like it, you could have done away with that line at the end, liked the pictures though
SNAPSHOT
well, cant decide about this one, didnt love it…didn’t hate it either.
Umm..late today..too many meetings..be@!#@#$#$d
so, here goes:
Anniversary: good production values, neat film, subtle presentation of the plot..good stuff, KS!
The Raven: OOOOOHHHH…what concept..had to see it twice before commenting..great stuff Shekhar!
Sobre: I thought it was left a lil undone, Pardonnez moi!
Post Its: Simple story well told, Shilpa, you are doing well with your simple stuff!
Snapshot: Vague, had me mystified.
Gloomy Sunday: Good film, predictable storyline..
Senses of an Incense: WOOOOWWWWW…kya concept..wacky all the way..just the flow..I did not understand anything from the narrative, but it completely rocked!
Winner: RAVEN and INCENSE
POST IT
was loving this, the choice of music was excellent. would have liked it further if the reason shown was not “family” and something funny instead.
# Sobre la Hierba
brilliant
THE RAVEN
absolutely the best i have seen today,
THE ANNIVERSARY
definitely the most well made film here today, loved this as well…
guess today its a tie between RAVEN and ANNIVERSARY
loved the way RAVEN combined animation, clever. but then again ANNIVERSARY had superb production values…
@kk
agreed with the bad acting bit in conspiracy. we had to work a lot on that one. had 14+minutes of footage for that one minute movie. totally agree with all the criticism.
and no buddy, you are not harsh at all with your criticisms. i am wholeheartedly waiting for criticisms, as they will help us take note of where we went wrong, and what can be improved the next time around.
@all
as for the sound part in competition, totally my fault. i tried to even amplify it while editing, but there was some disturbance while capturing the scene. had no idea how to make a movie this time around. no ideas as to when to use a closeup, or a long shot. just picked up my handycam, and started working on my ideas. my worst for this year is yet to be shown, lookout for tomorrow’s ‘it could’ve been’. had a concept, but not the means to execute it. went ahead, turned out crappy, thought what the heck, i will go ahead and submit it anyway.
the best thing to come out of this pfcone for me was i was so hungry for knowledge about shot-taking, direction and script-writing i joined a workshop, and now i think i can make a better film (atleast better than my own movies this year). i promise, pfcone 2009 would see better movies from my side.
before that, i plan to enter atleast one movie for this years fullmarxx alongwith my workshop colleagues. working on the script as of now. will post the link here once its done. wish me luck friends.
@all
i apologise for the sound in both my movies. if you want to, you can get to know the dialogues from the script.
i have uploaded them on sendthisfile

@ Amit: truly appreciate ur spirit. motivates me beyond wut i can even explain. wish u all the luck for ur future projekts. chak de phatte!!!
@Shekhar Shimpi,
Miles and miles you will cover (definitely) before you sleep.
Till now saw only yours and if films by others are giving competition to your film then PFCone2008 is already doing great.
Did not know you have got an actor who supports the theory that there can be two or more people having similar faces.
You got twin or look alike of our PFC’s actor STRIKER.
Very good work Shekhar.
Congrats!!!
@Shekhar Shimpi…dude i am expecting an entire artcile on the thought process behind the raven
The nominations for the best actors would go to both the Karthiks …(Auto madar*** and Late) and the actor from destination from day one…
Moon Gary by Neeraj Mehta didnt work for me. Rest seem good. Auto Ma*&^%$ still leagues ahead.
Arre Striker, I think Late should have been in the competitive section. We need some humour there as well!
Anniversary was very mushy mushy, you could make a feature on this, YRF style as some have commented.
Senses of an Incense – liked the fast paced visuals, but couldn’t read most of the subtitles.
Shekar, The Raven has some amazing visuals, loved the animation. The best on show today.
Anand you’ve seen too many ketchup stained clothes in movies when you were a kid! It was always a suitable substitute for blood. Thanks for the inevitable twist in the end. Any more comming up?
Matrabasha – good concept and good acting by the kid.
Moongary was funny! Some good actors there.
Matrubhasha
Nice concept. Bad execution.
The Tunnel
Wow. Brilliant. Everything. From shots to music from the girl to the cutting. Too cool.
Sobre La Hierba
I don’t know how they do it but they do it all the time.
Post Its
Very well done, great editing, captures the everyday conflicts of a cubicled life, good use of music, makes it comical yet keeps it subtle.
Snapshot
Can’t help it, lovely girl, what a face. Oh I am sorry, let me watch it again.
Saw it again, great film too.
Gloomy Sunday
Something kinky about it, I don’t know what.
Moon Gary
saw it again, something very sweet and funny about this one. brings s smile. the actor rocks.
and ya, kudos to everyone behind this. I feel cheesy saying this but feel like making a short film right now!
@62 RK. I also thought the actor in Raven was Striker until I read a different name in the credits.
Arun Bhai, kyun le rahe ho Anand ki!
:-)
Post its…The director has dextrously presented a relevant picture of the stressful condition of overworked young executives.The handsome and talented actor realistically and spontaneously portrays stress due to overwork,his multitasking abilities and his commitment and love towards his family. Congratulations to both!
very excited to see a lot of great responses for the RAVEN -(shekhar, next time lets not start on the last day of the competition)
@Carlos Aravena- cool stuff, how did he do that?
POST ITS shows the exploitation of young personnel by the mncs and extracting life out of them…here the actor thinks of giving up everything but his helplessness …the “dookti rag”which the mncs are well aware of…makes him succumb to the trap of the employer.
hehhe Arun …bacche ki jaan loge kya ! ….and yes many more are coming …the unavoidable – maggie soup …the unstopable – kissan jam
@Rk
@Rusted rick
@Tushar
thanks Yaro!!!,.
@Ananad
Yes, I’m going to write an entire Article,
-
@Arun Prakash
I think Striker is busy with “Ed Wood’s” film,
Right Karthik?
___
@Paul Thomas
Very true man,
Next time I’ll be more organize organizized
@Shekhar, you had to say that didn’t you, organizizied. :-)
Anand, you’re all set for next year’s PFC one and so is Tushar. He’s all fired up and ready to make a short. Need any scripts?
But seriously, PFC one must have inspired a lot of people. Next year it’ll be bigger and even more competitive.
Arun i can already see the change …this year one’s has far better quality than the last year ….its day 2 and we already have some great movies ….
@Tushar
cant help it !!!
@Arun, as Karima from Dekh Bhai Dekh would say, uh-le-llo. He he. But ya seriously we have a great talent pool. I need editors and actors in here, scripts ka no shortage. Inshallah better things happen soon for the great inspiration called PFC One.
some brilliant stuff on day 2
‘Anniversary’ was superbly shot
‘The Raven’ was just brilliant … what detailing man … hats off
‘Sobre Le Hierba’ was beautiful …. there was just this problem of missing subtitles in the end … but the feel of the movie was so … peaceful..
‘Post Its’ was my fav of the competitive section though … the impulsiveness and then coming back to senses, so to speak … i could completely relate..
…
‘Late’ and ‘The Blackout’ were two other movies i loved …
‘Late’ for me was just a perfect short movie … very funny
Raven was great attempt to portray Edgar Allen Poe’s poem.the costumes perfectly suited the era depicted. congrats Shekhar!
Anniversary was a great film…socially relevant focussing on the weakening marital bonds and breach of trust ,depicting the degradation of human values. Great work Karthik…congrats!
@shimpi – u should write the iview post on making of raven !!!
@varun – i personally rate incense as a closer film than rahim …. i just think the director of incense had he just extended it by 10 seconds…the film would have been even better ..becos in the rush to convey everything in 1 minute (exact one minute) he has rushed through a lot at times ..which is a slight distraction ..had he taken a little slower (at the cost of increasing film by say 10 sec) it would have been even better ..nevertheless .WHAT A FILM !!! THE FILM OF THE DAY FOR ME
@suprabh – i agree with u … the terrorism/muslim angle is becoming a little cliched … though competition was witty and turned it on its head
@Magik – yes tunnel is very nice
@amit – glad to see you taking it in your stride ..all the best buddy ..i hope u make many films for pfc2009..and thanks for uploading the scripts …read both
@RK – OMG ..yes shekhar is striker’s twin bro !!! why didnt i notice this ??
@striker – BTW kidhar hai tu ?? you arent commenting… Saala Anniversary mein kiss lene ke baad chup gaya !!!
Reminds me of a shakti kapoor dialogue “Summandi mein kummundi” !!!
Oh fuck…first movie of the day and i was blown..anniversary..pretty neat Kartik…top class..liked the look of the movie and the entire thing..:)
Shimpi bhai…kya banaya hai yaar…wtf..awesome…what concept..how did you do all that..i loved your last years movie too..you’re too good mann..
sobre..liked the look..what happened in the end?it was crucial.
Shilpa Shukla again a movie with nice intent…liked it better than destination.
striker – kidhar hai tu ?? kalya tam brahm ..kiss kar ke bhaaag gaya saale !!!
(sorry for the racist comment :P)
Snapshot..abstract..but like the look… monochrome
Gloomy..liked the look of it..but found tht there were too many things in a minute plot.
Finally sense..liked the concept..but i wish the subtitles were more prominent..:)
Striker, I was watching Anniversary again and was wondering about the deleted scenes…..nahin samjha…I was referring to the sex scenes!
KK would have caught on after reading the first line
Striker Hassan ban gaya tu Hey raam waala !!!
The Tunnel was nice..liked the look again,..and I loved the kids acting in Matrubhasha
Three cheers for the efforts put in to make movies…its very clear that there are many amateurs who are fulfulling their dreams of making movie…
A special thanks to PFCone for giving chance to all of us…
My fav in last two days
Auto Madar**** by Vasanbala..
warm regards,
Amit Tiwari
hhaha…LATE… i got the drift before..any prizes for that??
hahahhah.. kk, sabke saamne tu meri kheench raha hai.. bas aur kya chahiye
arun bhai, deleted scenes only apply to actors who don’t give their shot in one take ;) that was my one and only take
Shekhar and Striker – really nice jobs. Striker, to me, “late” is the model short… stuff happens and there’s a twist at the end. I’d seen it before, but still a very cute short.
Incense is a cool docu from the POV of the little stick – cute.
heheheh sorry bhai :P
Anand..i liked yor flm..nice lil twist
Man, the how much difference a camera makes..after seeing The Anniversary all other movies seem so pale in comparision (Iam only talking abt visuals).
Loved “Sobre la Hierba” and “Post Its”..
The music in “Post Its” is fantastic and seemed to have been tailor made for the film. superb !!
Couldn’t understand “Snapshot” went over my head 8O
PS: Watched Deja Vu again today..seemed to get funnier each time that I watch it more
Senses of an incense is awesome. Sandeep, keep it up. As I can understand kannada, I enjoyed it a lot. Reminded me of “Raheem Murge pe mat rona” (I hope title is correct)
Loved Gloomy Sunday too..its wicked in one sense…i like such kinda sense of humor…lol!!
@ Kayoom Mistry..of Rounds all around us..
I liked the concept and the picturization too..but, did you shoot all the footage or you got it from somewhere?
to all who watched ‘late’ and ‘anniversary’.. thank you! to those who liked it, an even bigger thanks.
safat, too many shots almost.. i’m wondering if in all the good production value, the story got lost..
amit, if you’re able to find a link for the other film, would love to check it out.. do pass it along
kk, skeleton key not for self promotion.. to avoid copyright issues ;)
kadam bhai, i’m with you on late being more interesting than anniv.. and i don’t think my role in late can compare with kk’s in auto.. he’s too good.
gajendra sir, thank you for liking anniversary for the story!
arun bhai, kaash aap judge hote
shekhar, plan 9 doesn’t start for a few more months, so i have some time..
checking…
Late : Nice, simple story. Liked it.
Matrubhasa: Preachy. Preachy. Preachy. Acting was bad.
Gloomy SUNDAY: very nice idea, but spolied a bit by again bad acting..!
Moon Gary: Hahaha! I LOVED it..Lovely work by the actor there, and this movie says so much in its comical way, apni apni olympics, wanting to be the king of our insginificant love and the aspirations connected with it…kudos!
The Tunnel: liked it, nice and simple.
The Anniversary: Arrey, glamour quotient! kya baat hai. lol…On a serious note, though the end was predictable, the movie worked, the quality(or the looks) of the movie is top notch. The best so far.
Post Its:Shilpa’s movies says so much without a single piece of dialogue. Special talent..! Kudos!
@Striker
Nice! liked late better than the anniversary
Snapshot: Will see it again and then comment..ek baar dekha aur ghutnon(knees) me headache ho gaya
Senses of an Incense: An okayish movie…
The Blackout: One dialogue kind of reminded me of Black Friday, some flaws, but, the movie has its heart in the right place. i liked it..!
@Sandeep.V
Superb! loved it…yeah subtitles are fast and impossible to understand but visuals are brilliant and make perfect sense even though I don’t understand the language.
#108: *insifinificant world..sorry!
Competition: nice idea. witty…but didn’t get most of the dialogues :(
Moon Gary: Hilarious!!!
Tunnel: Nice idea. Well executed.
rounds around us: Liked it but wish there was something more to it…may be VO could have been better…funnier
Late: Lead actor could have done a better job. Striker, you were brilliant!
Conspiracy: Couldn’t hear anything :(
Matrubhasha: good intention, bad acting.
Raven: Excellent visuals but didn’t get it. Will try to find the poem and read it. Yeah, the guy like Poe!
Post its: Nice idea…perfect for a one minute film. Also well executed.
@Anand
The player skipped your film for some strange reason. Saw it after I saw the comments. First marathi film!!! :P
Liked it..end sahi hai. Simple idea, well executed.
KENNY!!! teri films kahan hain???!!!???
@Striker
Yeh HVX200 mujhko dede thakur !!!
@Neeraja-
thanks for watching,.
Its okay if you didnt get it, there is no Funda behind it,If you like watching it,I’m Happy
@Striker-Keep posting about Plan 9 Bandhu, I love Original one
The Anniversary needed lot of work but a little twist.
The Tunnel was pretty good. Symbolism is pretty well thought.
Snapshot is a director’s movie. Great. Never really we see the actress’ face. I don’t know what thos snapshots meant in the end.
Post its is interesting.
My vote for today goes to The Raven. I wish I had read Edgar Alla Poe’s poem. Maybe I will wand wath it again.
hehe Neeraja yes its the first marathi film though it has only one line…..:)
tanul, neeraja, thx!
mitch, HVX meri hoti tho tujhe dekar bolta ki chal, film banate hain. lekin tu lekar koi music video bana deta..!
@Anand
‘Marathi manasa Jaga ho!!!’
Raj la saangayala paahije, he he
Je baat ? Toh chalo phir musical banate hain…Umbrellas of Cherbourg jaisi. Na teri na meri. Fifty Fifty.
Shekhar Shimpi …hehhe lol…
Hi there! Great thanks for consideration
Those snapshots meant to be anything we want to be. Is a wish which we could accomplish only through art and imagination. I want everyone who see the movie, have his interpretation.
But, here’s mine:
The snapshots are the ideal art which is created by the artist only within his mind. In fact, those snapshots didn’t really appear there (for a few seconds you could see the white curtain).
ps: I’m for Deja Vu from last day, and today the best is The Raven. I liked Naturaleza Muerta also, for chromatic and visual impact.
Sobre la Hierba… the camera work is very interesting. But I don’t know what the last line is… And without that I’m not sure what’s going on. Sure, there’s the mood… but is mood alone enough.
Someone who loves this film with every fiber of their being – please explain
@senses of incense- missed this…..SUPER!!!!!
The movie of the day for me. awesome……on being abstract or delibarately abstract I think is the easiest thing and attaching metaphors to every damn thing before even thinking of a scene….and generally presenting it in a complicated manner is actually a confused…lazy effort….whats really is difficult is to stay away from the norm and make a simple film which exactly spills out what one wants to say without a thesis in the end.
senses of incense – The film speaks for itself without the thesis….the addons and the director’s commentry can be a bonus…..but not the core film explanation itself.
SANDEEP you have done that with such spectacular effect and that too in a language I do not understand. Simple…..lovely…I was engaged…it brought a smile….SUPERB. LOVE IT.
On the strongs words used earlier am not trying to be nasty here..and my apologies if this sounds like gyaan….I loved some great visial presentations here @PFCONE…..Shimpi/Safat….and did not mind the abstractness….and as Shimpi puts it…it can mean anything…as long as you like it am happy…HONEST.thats an explanation am ready to take….thats honest…I love it
LOve
Dr.Fu Man Chu
Varun Grover – sir aap ka feedback ke liye kal hi ruka tha. thanks…and yes do agree with you on the urgency….tried to edit it to my best…it was a direction problem for sure. in the chaos and the crowd…..tried to get whatever I could..but yes what you pointed out went a little unaddressed. thanks sir.
senses of incense…winner of day 2 for me!! old format but superbly done n brillant choice to do with incense sticks!
raven…wow! super work
liked anniversary n the inevitable also..damn smart!! and guys all the best. waiting for day3. nymph is still not out, rite ?
@Vasan
‘Sir’ aur ‘aap’ bol ke lo mat sirrr. Aur thanks aur sorry ke baare mein toh Sooraj barjatya ne bahut saal pahle hi golden rules bana diye they. :P
And as i told KK too…loved some of the shots….esp. the shot of the eyes and how it travels from the foreground to background. And also, that candid shot of two girls with the umbrella giving KK a pain-in-the-neck.
And more so…u told a story with good doses of humor and darkness and eccentricities thrown in!! Hope to see more in near future…
VG –
and Sir hope to hear more from your pen. kabhi accha idea…aur producer mile to saath mein bhi kuch karneka mauka mile
My comments on PFCONE Day TWO!
BLACKOUT
Splendid work! Performers, camera, sound design, concept. Painting a large picture by showing a small, intimate one. Bravo!
MORE SORROW
Interesting concept to show how society often creates its own monsters. But the idea of a suicide bombing with job discrimination as its cause or trigger was not believable. A good effort though.
THE INEVITABLE
Not sure what this one was going for. If it was for a humorous payoff, the payoff did not make me laugh. The film lured me in very well, got me caring for the character, I wanted to know what was going to happen, and then it cheated me.
COMPETITION
Didn’t get it largely because audio was poor. Dialogue, especially in wide shots was not cleanly audible. Using a mic would have helped, or even wild lines. Cutting style did not work for me. I saw the intent to do an RGV style cut, but the shots did not support that style of cutting.
ROUNDS ALL AROUND US
Interesting. But was hoping for a better payoff or conclusion.
LATE
Funny. I liked the payoff. Did not expect it.
HASTE MAKES WASTE
We know the message. Could have found a more interesting way to get it across.
CONSPIRACY
Same problem as the earlier film. Dialogue cannot be heard clearly.
THE MOTHER TONGUE
The message the filmmaker is trying to pass on is appreciable. More natural actors would have helped enhance the film. Also an insert of the book could have been used in the cut. Seems like a first-time effort, so good luck for more.
THE TUNNEL
A wonderful message, very very well photographed. The girl is very expressive. A nice metaphorical way of conveying the message. The editing could have been more fluid. Seemed a little choppy to me. But on the whole, great job!
MOON GARY
Could use better story. Not much reached out to me as a viewer.
THE ANNIVERSARY
I saw the twist coming the moment I saw the lady looking at the photograph. Striker is capable of a lot more.
THE RAVEN
Interesting style. Visually captivating. Live action could have been lit better.
SOBRE LA HIERBA
I loved the way the camera moved! But why did the subtitles die out at the end?
POST ITS
A simple comment on how the average family man has to prioritize family above his frustrations, likes, dislikes. Well done.
SNAPSHOT
Not sure what the filmmaker was trying to say. I liked the music.
GLOOMY SUNDAY
Good effort. Interesting plot. Could have dwelled a little more into the misplaced guilt factor clearly. Good job.
Senses of an Incense
I love the concept. Subtitled should have been clearer. Red subtitles are a No-No! White subs with a black stroke would have been appropriate. I am harping on the subs because they move so fast and the video is cut so fast. Perhaps doing an English VO might help so that people can focus on your visuals instead of subtitles. Debatable. But good effort.
My favorite film of DAY TWO – it’s a tie between BLACKOUT & THE TUNNEL.
@Sandeep V,
Senses of incense is awesome. Kannada dialogs are awesome. Waiting for your full length feature in Kannada.
damn lost all my comments, so have to re-type –
fav of day 2 –
.
Incense – don’t understand kannada, and couldn’t read subtitles, but playful yet sardonic voice over told me everything, along with images and harmonium. well done.
.
anniversary – i have to shoot with the HVX200 if it can look like that, and work with deepti too. good production value but ruined by terrible acting from protags. cheapest way top add prod value is through good acting. surprised that as an actor u let it pass. saw the same thing in Late as well.
.
raven – shimpi, u need to work with a better writer. hint hint.
.
ketchup, sorry inevitable – had all about given up thinking it was yet another message film, then the twist came, and i chuckled. u had me. could have used a rection shot of the woman earlier for even more dramatic effect.
.
i think day 1 was better than 2, and getting tired of all the PSAs, but we have fewer than last year, so it’s a sign of the growth for PFCone.
.
eager to see what day 3 holds.
amateurish effort , technically excusable but conceptually no, people do work on your concepts before shooting them!
@mfa..
Loved your film..technically brilliant..and what a story-teller you are..superb boss..Hats Off!!! The only thing i didnt like..and that is a personal opinion is..i cannot see your movie..if anyone can, please point me to the right direction
@magik & kk
thanks buddy
@neeraja
i apologise for the sound once again. if it could help please have a look at the scripts @61.
@vijay
guilty as charged, i was trying the last shot as an RGV style shot. bad attempt. sorry for the sound in both the movies.
Can Anshu Rai explain her film to us?
The movie ends with a plea – Stop Misleading the Youth.
I wanna know who is misleading & how is that shown in the film.
I felt that the guy lost his job because of his attitude issues. He was not a smart guy. I felt sorry for the guy who refused to give him his job back. He died for no reason because of the Protagonists stupidity.
Please explain….
@Neeraj
oh fuck, i just realised, is the name of your movie moongary as in ‘moongary laal ke haseen sapne’?
damn, i was thinking for so long, whats the significance of the title. LOL.
Again, for all those who watched Post Its and commented on it, a big Thank You for your comments and support!
@kartik – Thank you! And yes, I do agree that it is probably a bit hard to get the full meaning in the first go… and it’s definitely something for me to improve on…
@Sudhir Nair – Thank you! Actually the music was the inpiration for the short. I enjoyed making Destination so much so that I wanted to make another short. That was when I happened to listen to a piece of music by my very talented friend, Prasanna, who had sent it to me 3 years ago! It was one of those “oh by the way, here is something I composed” stuff… and had been sitting around not utilised for so long. When I noticed that the music was almost exactly 1 minute, I knew I had to do something with it! So the whole story surrounded the ups and downs in the music.
@Rusted Rick – Thank you! My comment to Sudhir above is also the reason why Post Its didn’t have a funny ending.. even though that would have been quite interesting as well!
I was following the music and my interpretation of the music was more on a somber note than that of humour.
And I Must thank all those who made Post Its happen:
Prasanna – Thank you for letting me use your music!
Shantanu – Thank you for being there from the beginning till the end!
Lakshmi – Thank you for making the film more real with your suggestions!
Shivanu – Thank you for co-operating with the 4 hour shoot and the hundrerds of shots in the hot, humid office!
Rameet – Thank you for the photo!
@striker
the short was named ’sweet’ by jason epperson.
on the lot episode 13. just got the youtube link
here you go friend – http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=mL5VMWPeKzw
@striker
while you are at it, also check out my personal favorite from ‘on the lot’.
‘Die Hardly Working’ – Zach Lipovsky
http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=TF77-IeNfjM
@Amit
Read both. Loved competition…very nice idea, look of the film was perfect, acting could have been better.
Conspiracy ummmm going by the dialogues, I am not sure if it presents a sad picture of gareeb innocent muslims or terrorists using these arguments to do what they do. The title unfortunately gives away everything… nevertheless a clever film but nowhere close to competition.
OZ sir good morning..!day three me kitni der aur….??? intejar nahi ho raha he ab…!
Senses of an Incense is clearly my fav of day 2.
Followed by Sobre la Hierba.
Anniversary was well made. But I predicted the twist in 5 seconds.
@Safat, 10 minutes… Safat
Day 2 gets better. Raven, Sobre and Incense are my personal favorites. Incense tested the limits of my Kannada knowledge (since the subtitles were quite rushed) but it was done so well. Sobre was poetry in motion. Raven is the film of the festival till date for me. To have picked up a poem so rich in imagery and then to have shot it in such a fashion and b/g score tells me that the world will sit up and take notice of Shekhar Shimpi shortly. Did you deliberately pick up Monna Vanna for Lenore’s picture? There’s so much packed in there. All in all, simply awesome!
I also think Late and Tunnel deserved entry in competitive section. Well made films.
@mainak
have u seen this ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Mv-N_DCVxU
@Neeraja
thanks. it means a lot.
agreed that the title gives away a lot. should have given it some more thought. actually i never thought about the title before the editing, while writing and shooting it was untitled.
the idea behind Conspiracy came from reading newspaper articles, where we never hear that anyone other than muslims are caught for anything and everything (until recently in the case of pragya singh). this seems a bit far-fetched. just played on the idea, and in the movie i wanted to show that there is a big cover-up with media and cops involved. what i wanted to say was, when there is a muslim person caught for something no questions are asked, we just presume that the police have got the right person just because he was a muslim. and in the end of the movie, the cop kills the common man who has scratched the surface of this controversy and labels it as an encounter, stating that the guy (Ajit) was hiding with false identity (Ashfaque) just because the public wont ask much questions.
there were many problems with the movie, which i came to know after i attended the filmmaking workshop. one of the major problems is that i never establish that the person sitting on the sofa is a cop.
totally my fault that i couldnt convey what i wanted to say. tough luck. will try harder next time.
dabba, “late” was made in a rush and as you could probably tell i was losing light.. not to mention i made it on the day the submission was due.. i just wanted to make it.
as for anniversary, can’t win em all.. i wanted it pretty emotionless and neutral.. not everyone who goes thru a separation has to look and feel pitiful and blah.. some people could act perfectly normal and move on with life, which is what i was going for. what were your problems with the acting? will make sure to keep any points in mind for my next one.
amit, thanks for those links.. will check em out
1. Congrats to everyone for the wonderful films.
2. My favorite till now among all the movies has been DESTINATION by Shilpa Shukla. Congrats for it Shilpa..ur actor is good..my compliments to him as well..where does he live?
3. Auto m……. was interesting as well. both idea and the execution were very bright. kudos Vasan and KK.
4. anniversary stands out for the direction and camerawork (and the camera quality also). good work Karthik.
5. Tarun singhal, i remember seeing ur film ‘gloomy sunday’ on filmaka.in as well last year.
First of all …
Kudos to everyone who has made a minute film.
It is not easy to condense a concept into events spanning one minute and show it without loss of impact.
So no matter who wins or loses competitively, you all are winners already.
I saw the day one and two movies yesterday night and I would like to support movies that still linger with me after one viewing 12 hours earlier.
In that respect I found the following movies making the best use of their running time.
1. Auto – very funny and intense at the same time
Karthik Krishnan – you are promoted as Killer
KArthik.
2. Shilpa Krishnan Shukla’s films are delight – particularly the ‘post its’ and the old age home theme were dealt very well – using a very short screen span to establish characters and not just telling story – something that masters like Mani are known for – Bright future ahead.
3. Very funny and clever – Karthik Srinivasan and team!!! particularly the ‘late’ and ‘anniversary’.
4. Very innovative presentation – ‘Raven’ – Edgar Allan Poe meets hitchcock there!
5. Very psychedelic and extremely affecting mood creation – ‘Surrender’.
6. Right up there along with Karthik Srinivasan and team with respect to being funny was ‘Deja Vu’ – nice encapsulation of a concept and very well acted!!
7. Image that stays in mind – The spanish short film with a guy under the tree. The fact that I was waiting for the panning shot of a person sleeping under the tree to end with something sensational – showed how I was spoilt by Indian movies that always follow the three act structure rigidly. Here was a movie that was about a moment rather than event.
8. The movie ‘Tunnel’ was also filled with imagery that stayed in the mind long after the film played out its one minute span.
Big cheers for Oz and PFC team for making this happen and happen sensationally.
Hello all,
I thank u guys for viewing and sharing ur views on the videos made here.It really brings a smile on the face and helps in improvising the skills.
Thanks one and all
@balwinder – Thank you for your comments!
I had put up another post under Day One about the actor in Destination… he is Mr. Radhakrishna Menon and he is a veteran theatre actor from Singapore.
@Jaiganesh – thank you so much! Your comment made my day!
the above comment (#155) was by me… forgot to change the initials! :S
@balwinder
are u sure, ‘gloomy sunday’ was shown on filmaka last year?

Isn’t ‘ahahaha’ more when you see a revelation in a comment? ;)
@Amit Mishra
The actors in MoonGary are friends – possibly acting for the first time. The lead has indeed done such a wonderful job. He single handedly makes the film work.
The name is indeed a reference to “Mungerilal ke haseen sapne”. I am very happy someone got that.
@Kartik Krishnan, @sujith, @vijay, @Arun Prakash, @Neeraja
Thanks for commenting. It is so important to get feedback, +ve or -ve.
@Tushar
@Tanul Thakur
It is so satisfying when someone gets it. It is intended to be a sweet film.
I originally thought of my (an engineer’s) aspirations and how they are so different from those of someone like Michael Phelps and yet not that different. We all want to do well at something and get recognition. And often it is to really just show that “Yes, I can”.
And usually this is directed towards those who say or imply “No, you cant” to your face.
Often the person mocking me by saying “No, you cant” is me.
And thus making a one minute short is enough but when people like it – It feels fantastic.
Sorry I could not respond earlier. Was busy with something and I logged into PFCOne only on the 3rd day.
Thanks for watching and bigger thanks for commenting on Moon Gary.
thanx everyone for watching my film “matrubhasha” n posting me ur comments….looking frwd 2 pfc 2009….send me ur feedbacks anytime…..
