Big Congrats - Trasie…Well done there!!!

Satish, Praveen and Rajesh..well done..enjoyed reading all of you!!

  2. Satish Naidu on February 23rd, 2008 9:29 pm

    Hey Trasie,
Heartiest congratulations. I just cannot be amazed enough at how you manage to view Hindi films, you know, for it isn’t exactly the world language. More importantly, you also seem to have quite an idea about the Telugu film industry, and that is awe-inspiring.
Subtitles, or you understand the language? I hope to God you understand the language, so that I can expand on my already wide open mouth just that trifle wider. Once again, great many congratulations.
It was really great reading reviews of one and all.

Thanks Oz, and everyone involved - the judges, and the visitors to give guys like me, budding critics such an opportunity. This has been one of a kind, and I hope it is an annual event.

    Regards,
    Satish Naidu

  3. Shantesh Sunil Row on February 23rd, 2008 9:41 pm

Congrats to Trasie. More power to you.
Warm wishes to Satish, Praveen and Rajesh too.
And of course to Rashid, Thani, Shaayon and Kavita.

Many thanks to Oz and PFC for organizing Ronin.
It was a great opportunity to be part of the process.

Thanks also to all those who had the patience to read my reviews and give their bouquets and brickbats for the same.

Life would be a bit incomplete not reviewing films now, but then again, Season 2 is awaited with bated breath.

    Cheers, Shantesh

P.S.: Praveen, you were and are still my favourite!

  4. Shantesh Sunil Row on February 23rd, 2008 9:48 pm

Whoops, I missed Sreehari…regards to you too!

  5. Ips on February 23rd, 2008 9:58 pm

I am quite surprised at the results actually..I was expecting Praveen ,who was the first rank for three consecutive weeks and was rank two only once.. Its very difficult to digest that he can in one review slip to third..

Frankly I dont understand or see any logic behind the results because it surely didnt follow the numbers..(And I do hope judges had a say in it).

So anyway..Congrats to Trasie..(But I sure find the results flawed..)

  6. Nishit on February 23rd, 2008 10:08 pm

surprise.. surprise.. surprise… (and not very good one)

Praveen has been consistently writing good reviews and leading the chart. Just in two tweeks second and then third??? He has been writing amazing reviews. For me, he is THE winner.

    Trasie, congratulations and all, but…

  7. Snigdha on February 23rd, 2008 10:12 pm

    ne news on pfc pitcher…
    or has it been cancelled???

  8. K J on February 23rd, 2008 10:49 pm

    i agree with the results
i had pretty much the same order in mind. i guess this also proves that distance brings perspective. congrats Trasie

  9. arun prakash on February 23rd, 2008 11:43 pm

    Congrats…everyone.
But theres gotta be one winner only.
    Well done Trasie.
Do tell us more about yourself.

  10. Mo on February 24th, 2008 12:36 am

    Speech, speech, speech!

  11. Dazed&Confused on February 24th, 2008 6:03 am

Best wishes Trasie…! Praveen gets my vote though…! (I must admit I didn’t read the last round…)

  12. thani on February 24th, 2008 9:34 am

was all prepared to congratulate Praveen… till surprised by this post’s anointment.

Critical Faculty is not up every john’s alley. Film Reviewing can be great fun, when you know you’ve hit the right note, & pointed out pertinent things about A film.
Praveen, you’re still the winner for me. Praveen, Sreehari & Satish. Do keep at it.

  13. OM on February 24th, 2008 10:33 am

    Wooohooo Congrats Trasie…

Congrats to all the participants and the organizers…and a big thank you to all the whiners

  14. Jateen Gandhi on February 24th, 2008 10:41 am

Congratulations Trasie! you had my vote all along. You are a good writer and wish you good luck for your future endeavours!!

  15. Neeraja on February 24th, 2008 10:57 am

    Congratulations Trasie!!! :)

  16. Anand G on February 24th, 2008 4:48 pm

    Congratulations Trasie.

Like the others, I would have liked to see Praveen or Shantesh become Ronin. However, Trasie’s reviews were the least biased and had a very neutral focus all through. So no complaints.

The other’s can always submit their reviews through iView. Just about every reader has a review up nowadays… so I hope the big guns from Ronin continue to send in their reviews. Good job all.

  17. Saurabh on February 24th, 2008 11:17 pm

Praveen, bad luck. You were, in my opinion, the best. But I guess my opinion counts for nothing :-)

  18. Ashok Bania on February 25th, 2008 12:41 am

Being neutral doesn’t make one a good reviewer. People read a review to see how the reviewer perceive the movie to be. In that case, I feel Rajesh and Praveen were the two most animated and in-depth reviewer I have ever come across. Kudos to you guys and congratulations to the rest!

  19. T-Rex on February 25th, 2008 12:53 am

The Ronin contest looks rigged. Praveen should have won statistically speaking.

  20. Sreehari. on February 25th, 2008 1:13 am

    Hearty Congratulations Trassie..
    A very well-deserved winner in my book…

  21. RK on February 25th, 2008 3:43 am

Congrats t!, on winning the contest and congrats other contestants for participating religiously in every round.
Be ready t!, now you (your reviews) will be subjected to reviews by others;)

  22. Aditya Pant on February 25th, 2008 8:09 pm

well, well…so there are accusations of rigging here as well. Proves my point that EVERY award/ contest will have accusations of rigging if the final result doesn’t match one’s views.

As for me…I agree with the final outcome because i personally felt that the last two reviews by Praveen were not as good as his initial ones.

Congrats to Trasie and all other contestants!

  23. Indraneel on February 25th, 2008 8:53 pm

T Rex…cool buddy..go through the reviews very carefully..you shall see what some others have seen…carefully with no bias in your mind…read every sentence!!

  24. t! on February 25th, 2008 9:00 pm

If you haven’t figured it out yet, t! is Trasie ;)

Thank you all for your kind words and support!!! I am a bit overwhelmed, Praveen and Satish rocked, and you have no idea how many hours I spent reading their previous reviews for inspiration for my own writing.

Also, may I point out that I absolutely loved reading Shantesh’s reviews. An almost lyrical quality in some of his writing, the ability to change his style in different posts in a way I tried to emulate but couldn’t, and a great sense of humour.

Satish, it is my love of world cinema that eventually led me to watching Bollywood films, which led to parallel cinema, and then Tamil and Telugu film. Indian cinema is World cinema to me, and it is a shame that the worst of Bollywood is what is exported to the rest of the world, obscuring the fact to many that the best of Bollywood is better than what Hollywood can produce, that South Indian cinema is vastly intelligent, entertaining, and even when it is bad it still provides hours of laughs, and that non-Bollywood film in India is comparable to that of the rest of the world.

I don’t speak Tamil or Telugu, and can understand Hindi, even if I mispronounce the words that I do know so badly that I am laughed at by DVDwallas, waiters, and my own friends on a regular basis. I do watch Rajnikanth’s films with no subtitles though, a not-so guilty pleasure. They are all the better when you can get a group of friends together and make up your own words, just like Woody Allen’s “What’s Up Tiger Lilly”…

So, as to the request for a speech, um, I suck about talking about myself unless I am exposing myself in a movie review. But, I have to give thanks to oz for thinking up this contest, for all of you who read all the reviews week after week and participated in the comments (I also took a lot of tips and inspiration from the comments as I was writing), and especially Shantesh, Praveen, Satish, Rajesh, and Mohammed - all of whom I learned something from.

  25. Shantesh Sunil Row on February 26th, 2008 10:48 pm

Nice to hear from the Ronin herself.
Thanks for the kind words Trasie.
Here’s looking forward to your words of wisdom on Tehelka soon.
    Warm regards, Shantesh

  26. Aashish on March 5th, 2008 4:30 am

Not impressed with the jury. Praveen and Srihari were much better overall, and should have been higher on the rankings than the current winner.
