basterdsOne thing that I have always noticed in a Quentin Tarantino Film are the weird conversations that he makes the Characters have. Be it Pulp Fiction Or Resevoir Dogs.

And in Paris, you can buy
a beer in McDonald’s.
You know what they call…

a Quarter-Pounder
with Cheese in Paris ?

They don’t call it
a Quarter-Pounder with Cheese ?

They got the metric system.
They wouldn’t know what the fuck
a Quarter-Pounder is.

- What do they call it ?
- They call it a Royale with Cheese.

- Royale with Cheese.
- That’s right.

What do they call a Big Mac ?

Big Mac’s a Big Mac,
but they call it Le Big Mac.

The reason I say this as a Weird Conversation is cos these guys are Cold Blooded Hit-Men.

And, we are not use to watching Hit-Men having this kind of Conversation. The Hit-Man projected to us over the years are for some reason Very Serious, Super Intelligent, they always have the Best Lines. I have no idea how they are so intelligent  .

Its like if you’re a Hit-Men they by default for some reason you’re Intelligent, Sharp Minded & Nobody manages to catch you. And then it doesn’t even Matter if you’re Naseer Khan from Shadow. No one can Catch you.

YYYYY…. Cos!!! Bingo, you’re a Certified Hit-Man  . I think that’s just Stupid :-x

Tarantino’s characters are a bit more human than the above. This man bought his own Brand & Style of movie making with Resevoir Dogs, Pulp-Fiction, Kill Bill & Inglourious Basterds. He has changed everything from the, Dialogues which are really Poetic & in a very Rhythmic tone but at the same time It’s Razor-Sharp.

My name’s Pitt, and your ass
ain’t talkin’ your way outta this shit. (Pulp-Fiction)

1. – Zed’s.
- Who’s Zed ?

Zed’s dead, baby.
Zed’s dead. (Pulp-Fiction)

2. My customers don’t know shit about it,
so there ain’t no demand for it. (Jackie Brown)

And My Personal Favorite.

3. I know I’m pretty,

but I ain’t as Pretty
as a Couple of Titties. (True Romance) movie that he wrote

To the Mood & Tone in his films which are very Dark & Intense. Also, the Tension is right up there is well. But here comes the difference between Him & Others.

The way he manages to get the Perfect Mix of Tension & Humor is just amazing. You’re Laughing & Gripped at the same time, which is an Art & this man has Perfected it.

The way he manages to build up the scene is just Unbelievable.

inglourious-basterds-0905-pp05-500x340The Starting scene from Inglourious Basterds.

The Bar scene from Inglourious Basterds

Samuel Jackson & John Travolta Killing Brett after eating his Hamburger  from Pulp Fiction

Dennis Hopper & Christopher Walken conversation from True Romance.

When the scene starts you’re Laughing  . Then, slowly that Laugh turns in to a Smile  , before long the Smile disappears and you’re completely Glued, Tense & Hooked to the scene, it is Creeping on you. And, before you know it Your Eyes & Mouth are wide open. 8-O

Since we are talking on the Tension & Gripping part. Let’s talk about the other important part in his movie, Violence. Violence is never overdone in his movies, Movie decides the Action & Violence in a Tarantino flick & not the other way around. Action Sequences will always leave a mark on you & it doesn’t matter how little it is there in the film.

Be it the Ear cutting scene from ‘Resevoir Dogs’.

Or the Baseball Bat Scene from ‘Inglourious Basterds’.

It is so well embedded in our memory, even though it is merely an 10 minute sequence.

The Action Sequences are so Bloody & Gorish that it has redefined action in movies. The superb action scenes from Kill-Bill can never be forgotten. You can watch it over and over again & still feel the Exhilaration.  The combination of Martial Arts & Tarantino’s Style were so well put together that, we just love it. The way in which the Hands & Legs are cut Right, Left & Center & Blood Spattering all over the place only Tarantino could have pulled something like that off. You’re like on Edge of the Seat and giving some really Weird expressions while watching these scenes. The Intensity & Power of the scenes are just amazing.

Add to that the superb music that plays in the background in his films. As is usual for a Quentin Tarantino film, the music used in the film is eclectic, but mostly consisting of music in the Spaghetti-Western genre.

My God, it is so soothing and Full of Attitude maan. Who can forget the Whistle from Kill-Bill.

The Lucy Liu scene where she walks and the Tomoyasu Hotei score playing the background its just brilliant. Infact, when I listen & walk with that song on my cellphone I feel like I am walking in Slow Motion Full of Attitude.

The Music is also like a character in his Films.

The Story in a Tarantino film always has a very Dark Undertone. The Screenplay for his films Differs from being in Non-Linear Format to Chapter-Wise. Story-telling changes but, never does his Quality.

There are constant references that you notice in his films that they have a scene where a Protagonist is going to the Loo.

Every character in his films are mostly Dark.

The violence in his films always has a lot of Blood & Gore.

The lines even though said in a very serious Environment always has a Comic relief to it.

There is Signature Style in all his Films. You watch a Few scenes in the film and you know it that Dude, this is a Quentin Tarantino Film.

I Hope someday he directs a Super-Hero or a James Bond film, Cos

You  haven’t seen Anything, Until you see it through the Eyes of Quentin Tarantino.

Check out my comments in the Guy Ritchie post. Actually the hit-men conversations are the most normal life and most abnormal screen conversations. RGV exploited this to a good extent in Satya where the gangsters share jokes etc sitting in that under-construction building, and one gets shot laughing his ass off (quite a homage to Pulp Fiction).

The Thing is that this is mostly what v see on screen. Its very rare that we get to see a normal conversation. Mostly, its like Hitman are like Gods. Like, you pointed out Satya. Like I pointed out Resevoir and Pulp Fiction. these are very few ones that have a normal conversation. Pulp Fiction came out at 1994, well at that time there werent many movies where Gangsters and Hitman had a very normal conversations.
Tarantino Changed that. that’s what I pointed out.

I tried to drive the same point, not against it. And now I see how miserably that attempt failed. I concur with what you have written there. :) :)
