Quick Gun : A dark brown comedy and a salute!
Shashank Ghosh | Confessional, Exclusive | August 12, 2009 at 8:35 pm

Mind It! It's Shashanka!
i remember thinking that it is such a hyped and magical experience and here she is saying its over [the magic had started but the fanfare was what i was thinking about]. i later realised that it must have ben an intense experience and so she could only feel relief
quick gun is pretty much the same process only i am at the experiential end this time and not the intellectual end as with the son: ) after 3 years of mega concerns and micro concerns, marrying various agendas, dealing with uncertainty on a almost daily basis, the damn cowboy is ready to pop in india.
oh what relief.
will it be a hit, will the hindi work, will the full blown tamil work, is the indian version too much of a departure in terms of structure and edit… the questions will continue but the film is ready. devi [rajesh devraj the writer] is still grumbling about the new structure, and anand is worried about impact as every producer is. but while we are still frown-lining over the final print and sound issues, it is almost a surprise to receive he number of overjoyed messages from people who have worked on the film as far back as 3 years. their feelings are the new energy source
nothing about quick gun murugun is easy. i guess that is the fate of an out of the box flick. i was reading suresh triveni’s promo blog and sympathize. there are too many ideas, subtext, dialogs and attractions that are calling attention to themselves and can be used. how it all gets put together into a film and manage a single identity depends entirely on the cowboy
so 15 years later, a million arguments with some of the brightest heads i have had the privilege to work with, the film print got out last night
and i have not seen it cos i am down with a viral. just confirmed it isnt spine flu
foxstar is going to town with the marketing, of course i am worried we are not reaching out enough. the music release is delayed and the radio play is yet to go, but hey, this might be a new out of the box way to do the thing. as with any film, there are no guarantees.
the music is a mad story. sagar desai and anand concocted some mad songs with ankur tewari and mika has sung the first. then to do a full blown hindi album we also recreated the 2 tamil classics ‘o little flower’ and ‘rukmaniye’ in hindi. vijay prakahs and hamsika have done a fabulous job. my friend geeta john has debuted with ‘my name is mango dolly’ and it is wonderful.
i am rambling now, we’d blame it on the fever
am taking up on meds and rest for the press due tonite. more tomorrow.

Shashank- was wondering recently as to why news of Mika singing for the movie is making news when the movie was ready long ago.then realised this is for the Indian version.Looking forward to watching it.all the best for 28th Aug and get well soon.
Shashanka my man!! Get well soon….And all da best for the release of this movie….By God’s grace it’s gonna OWN the box office :D
How many movies have we made on a “Character”..that too from teleision..QGM became a cult not for no reason..he was a cult for a generation like mine..those were the days when we didnt have youtube to watch QGM regularly..so i was transfixed to channel V to see a 30 second mindless entertainment which said ” we are like this only”..that was bloddy Quicj Gun Murugan to me…and to make a movie out of him is no mean feat…mad points to Shashanka da and the producers… long Live…good luck guys!!
Dont worry about rambling. We all got swine flu. We always do. We never get it. But we still laugh.
incidentally i feel for a film of this stature…advertising is good (contrast to what you have said). At least i see many ads on the music channels and that mika song is good. Rajendra Prasad will be back to what he is best at! Hope the movie works and get well soon!
He he I heard QCM wanted to shoot on Bandra Worli Sea link with his horse. QCM doesnt need BWSL. He can traverse any distance on air, land and water on his horse!
very very keen to watch the movie shashanka. all the very best. haven’t laughed in a long time! get well soon.
launch video of QGM but very low quality video and also buffering can’t be paused.

where can i find that t-shirt??..shashank
Will look for the music. Cant wait to see the film.
sir waiting for it…from you it surely will be something special!
Best of luck, Shashanka! Have waited for this movie for long. Is it also releasing in US?
>>”and i have not seen it cos i am down with a viral. just confirmed it isnt spine flu”
Not sure if that was a type or intentional… but if you really meant “spine” then that’s just hilarious (and clever)!!
Best wishes, the promos are simply too much… can’t wait to see it on a DVD release.
Shashank, saw the theatrical on tuesday night when i had gone to the late night show of Public Enemies. It was mindblasting!. Havent seen so many people laughing in an cinema hall over a trailer! All the best, man. I desperately hope comedies like QGM work in B’wood. Am tired of the shit being doled out. cheers.
I have heard one of the FM radio interviews of Mika on the music. Whatever it is we are watching it.
Get (out of the) well soon, dada.
Cheers!

Sajnaaa a bhi ja! When’s the release?
Someone please review the album!!! It is terrific!!
I am hooked to the title song of QGM! The other western blue ‘ Ek tha Murugan tha bada quickgun is sriously funny.
QGM music ROCKS !
Wasn’t paying much attention to the film earlier but when I got to know that the movie is made by the same people behind “Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II” and the song “My name is Manjeet” (I hope “Mango dolly” is similarly kick-ass) thanks to today’s Brunch, I knew this would be something to look out for.
As for Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II, I think that was really a much more Tarantino flick than “Kaminey”, which I maintain is a fabulous film but is more of Guy Ritchie than Tarantino.
On yet another note, will you be there at the Osians festival in October Mr. Shashank Ghosh?
will watch it ten times.
Sir jee..ab to woh 7 feet ka cutout de do..
