Just a quick reminder on the releases for this week…
Martin Scorcese returns with The Departed starring Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson.
According to the pre-release reviews Nicholson has given an earth shattering performance, and the movie on the whole IS a good one with Scorcese stamped all over it.
Quick background check: The movie is based on the Hong Kong hit Infernal Affairs.
The synopsis is that a gangster plants a mole within the police while the cops plant one of theirs in the don’s gang. Amazing premise to begin with. Just don’t know how much I will enjoy this one, as I’ve seen the original. But hey it’s a Scorcese, so Friday is booked for “The Departed”
The other releases this week are “Employee of the Month” starring Jessica Simpson and ofcourse her umm… you know what, and Dane Cook – who’s the current standup comic sensation among teens. Sorry, but I didn’t find his HBO stand up special funny.
Lastly we have the horror flick The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. I’m not big on horror flicks. In fact I don’t enjoy films of the horror genre. But get ready for some exciting times if you like horror films, because Hollywood is coming out with many many many horror films in the next few months. Yes, when I mentioned “many” over and over again, I did mean “many”. Simply because the last time I went to the movie theater and was watching the 10 odd movie trailers they showed us, 9 were horror movies. Honestly, until that point, I had yet to experience “peeing in my pants” while watching a horror movie “TRAILER”.

I have seen the original too. It wasnt worth the hype IMO. To remake it is a major surprise and to top it all, Martin is directing. Will watch it when it releases in India (that will be 2-3 months from US release- Damn!)
