Race is shit funny!! And so bad, its a must watch!!!
SPOILER ALERT!! When was the last time you saw something so bad that it was funny? If its been quite sometime, then it’s time to waste your money on a supershit called Race where six superstars walk in and out of the frame, all in style. The most interesting aspect of the film is the story, the plot. Forget about characters and their motives. It’s all about how they walk, talk and dress up. Thats it.
Back to the story now and am very tempted to give out the whole story here. Akshay and Saif are brothers. Katrina is Saif’s dedicated secretary. Enter Bipasha. Saif likes Bipasha. But Akshay falls in love with Bipasha. Saif sacrifices his love and gets them married. Akshay discovers that Bipasha is conwoman. So, Akshay plans with Bipahsa to kill Saif and get the insurance money. Bipasha tells Saif everything. Bips and Saif plan to kill Akshay instead. Finally Bipasha kills Saif. Now Akshay and Bips are going to get the money. Enter Katrina with the revelation that she is married to Saif (or Akshay or somone else…it doesnt matter much ) and so all insurance money belongs to her. Enter Anil Kapoor and his assistant Sameera. One is dumb and looks smart and the other is pure dumb. Just a more stylised version of carot chewing Karamchand and Kitty. So, then ? Big secret is out. Akshay and Katrina are partners in crime too. Ooh la la…Now Akshay and Katrina are going to get the insurance money. Actually Katrina never got married to Saif. It was part of a bigger game plan. So is Bipasha fucked now? No, Saif is ALIVE!!! YES!! He comes to Bips’ rescue. Actually Saif and Anil made a bigger plan and they knew everything about Akshay’s plans. So who kills whom? Who gets the money? Two brothers decide that everything will depend of the final car race. And then? More twists and more turns and some more and some more. It goes on and on and on and on…..literally.
After first few twists, I could not control myself. Was rolling on the floor laughing out and then was desperately waiting for Saif to come back. Because by that time I knew that anything is possible in this film. Whats wrong with Abbas-Mustan ? Or was anything ever right with them? They delivered some great thrillers. Of course some were great copy-paste job.
What else to write about Race? I can’t think of anything. Am still laughing and rolling thinking about the film. The film is brainded enough to make you go insane. And few hours after i cam eout of the theatre, am still in Race mode!! BTW, it also looks like a film made to promote South African tourism. So, am guessing no expense on location.
Bipasha, Katrina and Sameera…they are for ornamental purpose with some cleavage here and there. Katrina has some great dialogues…yes sir, no sir.
Anil Kapoor…will he ever get out of that wannabe JHAKAAS look and feel. Even in Tashan promo, he looks the same.
Saif and Akshay Khanna. They are supposedly intelligent, suave, good looking and great actors. And their only criteria for doing any film is script. There are only counted few members of this tribe anyway. So what were they eating, drinking or smoking or were they sleeping when they signed Race. ( May be Saif gave his dates to Race instead of Mithya. Ok, bad one. But remember reading somewhere that Rajat wantd to make Mithya with Saif) Next time I meet them I swear would not be able to control my laughter just by looking at them. The thought of them signing this film is funny. And am not joking. Its pure shit. SUPER SHIT!!
The other day UTV’s World Movies channel was showing 13 Tzameti. Saw the film sometime back on dvd also. The director was 26 year old when he made it. Now he must be 28 or so. Watch it know what is a “gripping thriller”. Am willing to sponsor this dvd for both Saif and Akshay. And for Abbas-Mustan, well I have no hopes anymore. Never saw Naqaab. But when I heard the story, I knew it was cannes winner. Ya ya it is. If you dont trust me, do watch the film. But Race is miles ahead of Naqaab. Its hands down the brainless, shitiest and most funniest film of the last fifty, hundred….god knows how many years. Do watch it.

In my view this film fails miserably to make it even to the exalted position of so-bad-it’s-good category. Forget funny, I was tearing my hair out as I sat through this “gripping thriller”. This one had me in tears (and I thought only Aamir Khan could do that with TZP)

what crap r u talking abt ….??the film RACE was superb….i went in for the first day first show and the whole audience was cheering for the film….and if u didn’t get the word ‘funny’…anil-sameera-jhonny were meant to be funny……even the leads in the film do witty lines that make u smile…..if smiling in a thriller(which it definitely is) is so injurious to ur health…i think JERKs like u need some mental help…big time!!!……so before u mislead other people to not have a good time….please follow my advice-u can thank me later buddy…sorry -jerk!!!
@pinky: oh yes, anil-sameera-johnny were indeed meant to be funny. The ‘ganna chooso’ dialogue is probably the best written funny line written since the heydays of Dada Kondke. And the mobile phone-wife comparison the most original piece ever written for films!!!

Errata: “Enter Katrina with the revelation that she is married to Akshay and so all insurance money belongs to her” .. you meant Saif & also you’ve spelt Akshaye wrong on numerous occasions.
I do agree Saif’s re-entry was too convenient, yet predictable.. but I think that’s only because we know how these guys work. Everyone has a bunch of twists attached to them & so, come intermission, you know Katrina is next with the reveal, you know that Saif will have to return & in that respect I was disappointed.
Overall though, I did enjoy it. I think part of the problem is that they keep the stars through the duration. If for example, Saif died .. & the latter half was Anil’s mission to catch the killer, this would have been enough.
Just spitballing here but, it would have been hilarious if at interval point, Bips pushed both & then it was revealed Katrina had made him sign it all over to their ‘wives’ if both died. The latter half could have been them both fighting for the ‘full’ amount.
You should watch this movie if you haven’t filled the column “biggest mistake of your life” yet..

no common sense….no thrills….no good action sequences… a total mindless film thatll do wonders at the box office….this is one of the worst movies ive ever seen…. i would rather watch an italian movie with no subtitles and try to understand it … :D

Considering ABBAS-MUSTAN’s record, all of their films are rip offs… i havent seen RACE but m sure it would also be a rip off..

Bhavesh - I doubt Race is ripped off. There could not have been a movie made which was this bad and go on to influence / inspire someone! But then… we are talkin about Abbas-Mustan. Hmmm.
I can not believe there are comments praising the movie. I just can not believe it. Junta, please please please stay away from this shit movie. Ab main kya bolun.. worst movie I saw in last 10 yrs, may be. Aur yeh Nikhat Kazmi, Taran Adarsh pagal hain kya? Taran has given this movie 4 stars, and Nihkat 3 and a half. The only sane voice is that of Raja Sen. And one more thing, how can there be two directors of a movie? Race dekh ke to yeh lag raha tha ki jaise dono bhai were trying to outsmart each other than anything else. Ek Saif ki taraf tha to doosra Akshay ki taraf and they were givng mindless twists to the movie. Aisa lag raha tha jaise Abbas bol raha ho, ki Mastanbhai aaj ka direction tu dekh le, kal I’ll pick up from there. Oh God, what frustration!
Race is great fun. Typical Abbas-Mustan stuff, but done with the conviction of a rhinoceres. The brothers are a genre unto themselves and this is one of their better ones. Akshaye Khanna, as always, is very funny here. Watch it for him. Don’t go thinking, ‘ah, baby, let’s watch a Ray movie’, and then fume afterwards. Go thinking, ah, baby, this looks really bad, let’s see what we can do with it.

No reason to be surprised so much…there were people and lots of them who liked Welcome and made it a super hit….
haven’t seen the movie(neither intend to now after reading the reviews/comments here)..but I won’t be surprised if RACE turns out be a big hit too..
Probably “commercially successful” makers like vipul shah and abbas-mastan know a thing or two abt the larger public taste that we can’t understand…and they are in the “business” of filmmaking….fair enuf i guess!

RACE …. Well frankly I haven’t seen a single good Hindi thriller in last ten years … Abbas-Mastaan have proved again that they have nothing else to offer except this piece of crap sold to the public as a stylised, modern, X/Y generation’s film … GOd help us all and the funny thing is that a few of the audiences are liking it … Maybe there is nothing better on their plate and they have to choose from shit and crap … anything will do … So what can we do???? Just writing here and hammering our brains, will it help??
The answer lies with the filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Manish Jha, Sudhir Mishra and all that along with making their own artistic films their film should also prove to be commercially siuccessful. Finally, the producers have to recognise the new wave and change their gears from dishing out such Races …

my take on Race:
Before interval it evokes your curiosity by fast happening incidents but after interval when the suspense reveals with overdose of unnecessary twists and songs, the films falls on ground.
As expected, first scene of falling pipes from trucks on car is inspired from Final destination 2 and the song
I havent seen race but have the dvd(sent to me for some reason) and i just watched and enjoyed the songs. i think theres a lot of eye candy in the film and the salsa light in it is pretty to look at.
Phoenixnu, you and others perhaps missed out on the social messages in the movie.

The scene after party, where Akshay is buzzed I couldn’t understand why was Saif bhaiyya was so serious as if someone had died.
