Quite a case of self promotion this is…are the moderators / editors watching? Utpal Datta claims to be a “National Award Winner Film Critic” – he is not. He has just got a special mention of the jury at the last (54th) national awards. the real award (Swarna Kamal) winners are two other film critics – Rafiq Baghdadi of Mumbai and G P Ramachandran of Kerala. No doubt Datta deserves praise for his special mention, but how can he claim to be “national award” winning critic? Here’s the relevant portion from the official press release on the awards:
“AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM CRITIC 2006
The award for best film critic is presented jointly to G.P. RAMACHANDRAN (MALAYALAM) AND RAFIQUE A.R. BAGHDADI (ENGLISH)Swarna Kamal and a cash prize of Rs. 37,500/- each to the critics
G.P. RAMACHANDRAN (MALAYALAM) AND RAFIQUE A.R. BAGHDADI (ENGLISH)
CITATION: The award is given to G.P.RAMACHANDRAN for his analytical and perceptive writing on a wide range of themes and cinematic styles.
The award is given to RAFIQUE A.R. BAGHDADI for his writings on the history of cinema as well as his cogent analysis of contemporary cinema.
3. SPECIAL MENTION
The jury makes a special mention of MR. UTPAL DATTA (ASSAMESE) for his sensitive interpretation of films and trends in cinema”.
Please PFC, filter out such false claims.
Dear Prasant
I have never claimed my award as SWARNA KAMAL. It is special mention with certificate and certificate is also an AWARD. The letter from DFF has also mentioned the certificate as an award. You must be knowing that jury has adviced to introduce cash with such SPECIAL MENTION.
Hi Prasant,
You may have personal or professional rivalry or jelousy with Utpal Dutta, which is very normal in this field. Personally I dont know both of you. But, I think, National FIlm Award is a compitition based AWARD where the organiser will name the awards. An award is an award whether it is a swarna kamal or it is a special mention.
why r people so jealous n intolerable bout each odr diz days…its noble to accept someone’s recognition…mr. prashant…accept it…i know hw gud utpal datta writes…
