RAMCHAND PAKISTANI-another stroke from new age Pakistani cinema

RAMCHAND PAKISTANI-another from new age Pakistani cinema

After Khuda Kay liye, Pakistani films seem to be more interesting. In next few days, there is another gem “Ramchand Pakistani” is coming.

The movie is about a dalit hindu family living in border area of Pakistan. During the time of kargil war; a man and his son from this family; accidentally cross the border and goes to India, where they are captured by army as supposed to be Jasoos of Pakistan. And then there are consequences due to India Pakistan relations at that time. Story is also focused on status of a woman whose husband and son is captured in India. Wife’s character is played by talented Indian actress “Nandita Das”. Other actors Rashid Farooqui, Syed Fazal etc. are not much known to us.

I have not seen this film so I can’t say much. Gujarati daily Gujarat Samachar has published an article on this movie.

If I’m not mistaken, this movie was shown at Tribeca last month and has created quite a buzz. From some of the scenes that I was able to catch, this could be another gem from Pakistan’s Cinema.

Yaar which was the first gem?Don’t tell me Khuda ke Liye is a gem…

Khuda Ke liye was a gem for me atleast… though I think, it could have done with some editing… especially that girl’s part in afghanistan.

This one looks good though… Anyways, I hope to see a light hearted cool film from Pakistan soon…

Khuda ke liye was not a gem, personally I see the film as brilliant, u have to understand the basics of islam and muslim traditions about music, interfaith marriage, customs of the tribal areas to truely appreciate the film

Khuda Ke Liye from a filmmaking point of view was not a gem! It could have been better in many ways..the editing, the acting, writing in some parts could have been tighter..however Khuda Ke Liye is special because it deals with very important issues and delves into them with courage and honesty! Secondly..by Pakistan film industry standards..it is a brilliant film!

As for Ramchand Pakistani..this looks very exciting! Hope to catch this one soon

as per my pov, Khuda kay liye needed more tight editing. otherewise, technically it was good. If not gem; khuda kay liye was far better than craps coming out these days. and as per pakistni movie’s standard; it is defninitely landmark movie in terms of innovative concept and technical details. it forced us to look out for more pakistani movies like Ramchand Pakistani.

Sadly Ramchand Pakistani has flopped badly here in Pakistan. In Rawalpindi the film crawled to a 6 week run with only one show a night in the last two weeks of its run. in comparison Javed Sheikh’s Khulay Aasman ke Neechay ran only for 4 weeks while Zibahkhana- Hell’s Ground ran for 10 weeks. Khuda ke Liye ran longer than any of these films

Ramchand Pakistani was not as successful as KKL in Pakistan but overall it is a success story. The largest city of Karachi and adjoining city Hyderabad have given it a very warm welcome.

It was successful especially when we look at ‘reality’ and ‘art’ cinema in subcontinent where song and dance is part of masala. In Karachi, this film is still running to more than 50+ theatre capacity.

met with dismal results in India which is very discouraging for future Pakistani productions. Ramchand has been pulled from the majority of its cinemas within a day or two. even in Bombay it began on friday with close to 20 screens and within just four days that figure is down to just 4. In bangalore the film was removed by the second day! this is a big shame considering it was a film of superior quality, especially when compared to the Gujjar nonsense we have

interesting to know that zibahkhana is doing well. what are people’s reactions to it? It is a hodgepodge of multiple 70s-80s american B horror movies made on an ultra-low budget.

will there be a flood of gore and horror movies in pakistan now?

Ramchand Pakistani will be the closing-night movie for the South Asian International Film Festival in New York on Oct. 28. Since it’s on a Tuesday, I hope they have Nandita Das as a draw.

Nandita’s Firaaq is the opening night gala centerpiece on Oct. 22, and she and Paresh Rawal are supposed to be there.
