Absolutely freaking brilliant!!! “Jaise door desh ke tower mein ghus jaaye aeroplane!” Amit Trivedi + Piyush Mishra + Rekha Bhardwaj + AK = Massively deadly combination!!!
Biting my nails in anticipation of the soundtrack now…
hehe great lyrics…
Rekha Bharadwaj again at her best….
well what to say… piyush mishra is as much an indepedent and weird lyricist as anurag is a director.
kudos.
liked mahi gill too
wont say.. that it will go well with uncle sam..
:D !!!
reminds me of jiye jiye jiye bhutto benazir
fucking brilliant lyrix! dis is the ‘emosanal atyachar’ of gulaal! waah waah!!!
lovely lyrics…..
brilliantly written!
but wasnt able to properly hear the ‘democracy’ wali line. somebody please help me here.
Absolute fucking Awesome!!
@Anurag: Are you releasing this in USA?
@Amit
I think the line is
“Jaise Har Ek Baat Pe Democracy Mein Lagte Lagte Ban”
BTW, when is the music coming out?
i think it is “lagte rahte ban”,
kudos to AK n his team…, waiting for audio release…
rekha bharadwaj just keeps on gettin better n better n better…
Check out Aarambha hai Pracahnda . .. Amazing music. . Awesome Lyrics
http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/broadband/video/Movie-Promos/hxkZjg21/1/Aarambha-Hai-Prachand-Gulaal.html
You can check out the rest of the Gulaal promos on Bollywood Hungama
its “lagne lag gayo ban”
As a great fan i am of kashyap and the likes and how excited i am to watch gulal ,IMHO i absolutely didn’t like the line “jaise dhoor desh ke tower mein ghus gaye re aeroplane” , i didn’t find it amusing at all.I feel it’s very insensitive to use lines like this.
I liked the song a lot except for this one single line.
@anurag : I don’t understand of the things you could have used in the song ,why did u choose 9/11 ?
duuuddde!!! gadar kaat diya!!!
@Amit Mishra- ‘jaise har ek baat mein democracy pe lagne lagyo ban’
Somebody tell me if Piyush Mishra, the lyricist and composer of Gulaal and Piyush Mishra the actor are same?
BTW the aarambh hai prachaand song is damn good.
@aseem, abhishek, Satyavrat, anurag
thanks a lot.
@anurag
looks another very good movie. thanks for churning out quality cinema.
@Neeraj
what about the other lines? you find ‘jaise sar-e-aam iraq mein jaake jam gaye uncle sam’ or ‘jaise bina baat afganistan ka baj gaya bhaiyya band’ amusing?
love the song
waiting for more.
@ Neerja
There’s a difference. While the lyrics involving iraq and afghanistan are satirizing and criticizing american foreign policy (even though thousands of innocents died because of it) the first line is mocking the 9/11 tragedy, not criticizing al qaeda’s actions. that’s why like neeraj, i am uncomfortable with the first line as well. imagine laughing at the expense of 26/11 or the marriot hotel bombings. it just doesn’t work. ‘jaise sar-e-aam oberoi aur taj mein ho gaya kat-le-aam’. yeah thats not funny. maybe if the line made fun of the jihadis instead of the tragedy, i could see the humor. i still respect piyush mishra’s intentions and creativity and don’t think the line should be omitted or anything. this is just my personal take.
i noted this in Dev.D & in interviews also that Mahi Gill looks a lot like Tabu & that seems more evident to me in this song..that she is very promising is stating the very obvious..anyway a very refreshing song..i dnt think we hv ever had a song so political yet so massy in its composition..welcome ‘pop filmmaking’..waiting fr 13th march..i hv more expectations from Gulaal than I had from Dev.D(its a different thing that it exceeded my expectations)..all the best Anurag!
@papaji : Thanks dude,You said exactly all that i wanted to say.
@Neerja : Got nothing more to add to papaji’s comment.I rest my case.
Thou i don’t doubt the intentions of piyush mishra,but i think the creativity just got carried away a little too much.Anyhoo, i am eagerly waiting to watch Gulal FDFS.
@“jaise dhoor desh ke tower mein ghus gaye re aeroplane”
its a song with a lot of political references so there is bound to b difference of opinion but I dont see anything objectionable in this 1min 30sec clip..acc to me the first line is criticising/satirizing the culprits of 9/11 & not otherwise..thats what i get frm it(”rana ji gusse mein aaye..jaise door des ke tower mein ghus jaaye aeroplane”)..where is it “mocking the tragedy”??..i think it needs to be seen in the context of Kay Kay’s(Rana Ji??) character(istics) in the movie..very promising soundtrack anyway..just heard “Aarambha Hai Prachand” & “Yaadon Mein Hai” on bollywood hungama..waiting fr the audio release..all the best
Whoaaa!! Anurag & Amit Mishra don’t give us any hangover recovery time, do they?
While Dev D is still blaring constantly on my iPod here comes Gulaal! Add Rekha Bhardwaj and Piyush Mishra to the mix – FREAKING AWESOME!! And from what I can hear, the song has Piyush’s vocals too, as a part of the chorus. The way he shreiks, “bina baat afghanistaan kaaa…” looks like a man possessed. He perhaps is!
And Mahie Gill – haay main mar jaawan!!! Looks delicioussss!!!!!! Bring it on AK, we can’t wait for this one either!!
Given all the political commentary in the movie, shouldn’t it have been appropriate to put in the commentary relevant to the time/period of Gulaal?
However interesting the lyrics are they are totally out of place
Sorry, Please read “However interesting the” as “Irrespective of how”
@ neeraj – you’re welcome, yaar.
@ no rocket science – yeah i know what you are saying and it made me think over my statement again. thats why i said that i didn’t doubt piyush mishra’s intentions. all i’m saying is that despite the intentions, the wordings come off as trivializing the massacre of 3000 innocent people. and i’m fine with how others are interpreting it. but yeah man, what a movie to look forward to.
TO
Mr.Anurag Kashyap
I am huge fan of urs.but…..
AAJ jab maine subhe mumbai mirror khola toh dekha ki ek side gulal ka poster hai aur uske samne hi THE SHIELD KA POSTER HAI. I was totally fking shocked. i am too disappointed after seeing this pics. cant even believe what i’d seen.
but i am still in control. plz come forward and plz sir clear this. ur GEM. AND UR WORK IS JUST I CAN JUST GIVE ONE WORD “MASTERPIECE”. JUST KEEP GOING.
I really have a problem with the 9/11 reference. It is very very insensitive.
.
The rest of the song is fab, but I thought Gulaal was based in the era when states were still being formed from kingdoms….. Maybe I have to go back and read again
I love the music and Rekha-ji’s rendition of the song.
Looking forward to the movie
Maybe .. the lyrics should be analysed with a little bit of context ?
Like after watching it’s placement in the movie and what it does to the story ?
Maybe .. hmm .. hmm ?
@SL
“Whoaaa!! Anurag & Amit Mishra don’t give us any hangover recovery time, do they?”
how do i figure here? i am sure you meant amit trivedi.
@ Amit Mishra
Sorry dude, I really meant Amit Trivedi..Guess the Mishra came from having heard all comments before posting mine! Apologies
Arrrrghh!! I meant, having “read” all the comments! What’s with me today!! :P
@SL:Just one more tiny weeny mistake,Amit Trivedi hasn’t composed music for Gulal.It’s Piyush Mishra.You had got the last name correct
now we need someone to comment with the name Piyush Trivedi
@papaji and Neeraj
Arey I am saying that if you look at these other two lines…its clear that they are NOT mocking the 9/11. Listen to the whole song…why pick out one line and find a meaning out of context?
Its not a prose…thodi poetic freedom do, thoda context se samjho.
Mitesh,
Tip of the iceberg hai woh…itna seriously mat le.. i have accepted that as a normal thing.
guys the film is based in todays time in a land caught in time warp.. stop being so hypersensitive without knowing the context of it.. this is what pisses me about this country.. aren’t you guys talking like the morality brigade.. judging something out of context and i am surprised at the same time you are not sensitive about america in Iraq.. you call it just foreign policy.. yes i would have included the recent attacks too if the film was made after them.. see the film before passing your judgements me lords..
ur absolutely right anurag. in our country people always judge before seeing anything. but what about the posters? can u plz clear that?
Finally some witty lyrics and also finally bollywood waking up to political conditions around world.
@Mitesh,
Go to Gulaal Trailer post, where Anurag has answered your question.
anurag sir..release the film after boards or extend it at least a week..this will tremendously help the film.
i thought Dev D was a great film..but people would not have watched it, had it not got “5 stars” from Times of India..Everybody who i have talked to has told me Dev D got 5 stars, we must watch this film..I knew it was worth more than five stars..but the thing is TOI is such a big conglomerate, it cabn change the future of lot of things…I believe had Dev D even got 4 stars..it would have earned less…Lots of people went just because it had the maximum stars ever. Lots of them wouldn’t have gone because it was Anurag Kashyap film or Abhay Deol was superb in it or because it had the best music.
And the Valentines Day also helped the movie.I am not trying to take the credit away from the movie.Of course people got word of mouth and watched the film..But the thing is Gulaal needs to be cared and marketed very well.That is why release date is very important..It might happen that Gulaal is better than Dev D, but Nikhat Kazmi might not give it 5 stars.
So, if the release dates are pushed, board examinees would watch the film and I think it is a film for young ones who still have impressionable minds and can have something to learn from it.Of course it doesn’t entail its only for them.But releasing it after a week will create a bigger audience.
howlarious!
‘jaise door desh ke tower mein ghus jaye re aeroplane’
‘jaise sare aam iraq mein jaa ke bas gaye uncle sam’
!!!
those lines cn giv heebie-jeebies to Bush for eternity :D
@40
Nikhil
You know what man? you have got it bang on!
I can’t tell you how similar my experience has been.. 95% of the people I know who have watched the movie is because of that TOI 5stars thing, and nothing else.. no Anurag kashyap, no Abhay deol. However, saying that, out of those 95%, 99% have loved the movie and came back saying.. yaar..kya sahi movie banayi hai..waise yeh director ne toh pehle bhi Black Friday jaisa movie bana chuka hai..accha hi hai “.. or maybe.. yeh Abhay Deol..Sunny ka bhai lagta nahi..body shody nahi hai..but kamaal acting kar leta hain..iska agla movie dekhna padega… That’s how word of mouth has spread; but fact remaining.. it was that TOI 5stars!..
Anurag, boss if you read this… it’s the handful like me, who would watch your film irrespective of anything, who would continue trying our best to promote them (of course only if we like them ;) ).. but the power of mass is bigger and more important to a filmmaker who makes films as a profession also.. so Nikhil’s comments do have a lot of relevance.
I hope Anurag doesn’t take this as a case of baccha baap ko paath padha raha hai! :D
U must already be knowing all this man..u r in the business of it all!.. just went on to say what I felt
ankur. . .ur the exception not the rule
MUJHKO RANAAJI MAAF KARNA GALTI MARE SE HO GAYI
@Anurag :
Chalo theek hai , maybe i was too quick to judge it(Instant reaction after hearing that,couldn’t help it).Let’s hope that i can put in different context after watching Gulal.
Cheers,and All the Best.
~Neeraj
@Anurag:
I heard that paanch got cleared by the censor and that it’d be releasing month after Gulal? Is it true? Any updates?
Also a post from you post-Dev.D is long overdue.
@neeraj and anyone else who has objections abt the lyrics:
heres my 2 cents …
watch any stand up comic performing in the US … they openly have reference to the 9/11 tragedy in jest(Dave Chapelle,Katt Williams ,Carlos Mencia, Robin Williams etc etc), even programs like the daily show wid John Stewart uses it quite frequently. South Park (my fav show on TV) had an episode in which the kids are makin satirical comments abt the whole 9 /11 related approach in the US. So if Americans are not offended by this, I dont see why us Indians need to be so sensy.
IT duznt mean that you can talk abt 9 / 11 and the whole incident in jest.They are not saying that its funny that ppl died , they are giving it as a reference to another thing… wat do smart ppl call it .. simile i guess ,
If you wish to see politically correct movies .. watch any random bollywood flick it wont offend anything accept ur intelligence…:)
cheerzzzz …
Chalo theek hai ,agreed to all that.No issues.It was just my personal feeling upon hearing that line for the first time.I just didn’t feel like humming to that line’s tune.I never thought so much into it ,nor do i have any MAJOR objection towards it.
Anyhoo,I guess we should let this topic die down here itself and look forward to more kickass trailers and super charged dialogue teasers especially more from Piyush Mishra.He’s lookin’ killer in Gulal.
Oh hell yes! This song is right up there with Emotional Attyachaar! Love the way its picturized too…Anurag now you’ve got me even more excited for this movie. I love the colour tones!
By the way who’s the actress in the song…looked like Mahie Gill to me?
And lastly Kay Kay was superb in the promo Jack n Jill…Bhosadike! :p
highly interesting…i guess these promos shud b shown on TV…i mean 13th march is d date n no buzz bout it anywhere(except on PFC ofcourse)…only 20 days left…but newayz i hav already started promoting it:cool:
@Anurag Kashyap- Sir I am huge fan of yours and absolutely mad at you at the same time for not having Dev D released in UK.
However in context of your comments above, don’t you feel you too are being a bit too touchy about it. Allright people expressed their opinion about a line in the song which one naturally relates with a monumental tragedy and thus cannot swiftly co-relate its usage in a song which on first hear does sound quite insensitive. The take on Iraq and Afghanistan were dripping with sarcasm but not so in the case of the Twin Tower reference. Thus this debate and one need not be a part of a moral brigade to express something which they feel. Just as you are a champion of free thoughts (and kudos to you for that), everyone else too has a right to form their opinion and I’m sure you did want people to form an opinion else there was no need to release the song before the movie release, isn’t it ? And one can only form an opinion on what one has seen or been shown.
Having said that, I understand that this movie is very close to you and am sure it will live upto your highest standards.Looking forward to watching it with the earnest plea that you release it in UK as well.
Cheers
Mitesh, kya baar baar wahi saawal poochta hai jiska jaawab nahi hai..
ek bakwaas sa duniya gol hai jawab milega..
tu picture dekh.. poster mat dekh.. :D
Just listened to the songs on a website. Absolutely bang on! Loved the song “Duniya”…had heard it from Piyush Mishra unplugged (accompanied by his harmonium of course). Best of luck to the team…
@Saurabh, review coming soon!
I read somewhere ‘Duniya’ is dedicated to the great Sahir saab and then I heard the song. I think its not only for Sahir saab but also for meer, ghalib,momin,Majaz…… and so on.
Great great lyrics by Piyush Mishra and great use of the line-
ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai.
Though he has taken the line from the old movie but the song has originality. hats off to the team.
P.S. I am not the lyricist.
I’m really sad when I say that even Gulal won’t be released in UK :(
I could only hardly get out of the disappointment of Dev.D not being released in UK and this one has now thrashed me.
What is going on, every other useless bollywood movie gets released in UK why can’t we have nice ones here.
love this lyrics , and rekha’s sungs well to this lyrics
Hi just saw Gulaal my first Anuarag Kashyap film and I thought it was one of the most brilliant films I have seen in a long long time. And this particular song stands out in the film for its very crative lyrics and the multiple narratives that are a part of this song. I thought it a stroke of genius that AK chooses the mujrawali to articulate the absurdities of our times.(reminded me of saadat manto stories, the only other man who knew how to make the absurd look normal and showed the absurdity of what is thought normal)The KK character at the end of the song very patronisingly tells the mujrawali that she did a good job. Was wondering whether like her, AK was thinking of how accolades may come his way without his audience really bothering to understand what he has to say? It is these possibilities of reading into the film that make it an engaging work of art. Have so much more to say but I guess this is enough for now.:-)
Bloody awesome movie this… saw it on saturday, morning show.. took my pop along since wifey does not like violent movies…He did not look too impressed after the movie.. but by sunday my old man was raving about the lyrics and the acting in the movie…
Piyush Mishra ji ko koti koti pranam….rustic india at its best….!!
Full of masti… :-)
