Reality Show + Auditions For Bollywood Film In LA

Hi Folks,

Mark your calendars.

Next Sunday, Feb 17th, in the beautiful city of Hollywood, CA,
SAAFA and RK Promotions present,

A reality audition show which will culminate in one male and one
female supporting role being awarded, to that lucky guy and gal.

MORE SPECIFICS: Ever thought you wanted to be a part of Bollywood,
but did not want to risk making that trip to Mumbai, well
chill…cause Mumbai is coming to you, in LA.

THE MOVIE: BLOOD MONEY, which will mark the feature script debut of
SAAFA co founder, Vivek Kumar

THE PRINCIPAL CAST OF 6: Sorry, that is already allotted to top notch
actors from Mumbai

SUPPORTING CAST: The movie will be filmed in
LA/Toronto/NYC/ Mumbai/Africa/ Middle East/Thailand and we will be
selecting supporting cast (mind you it is not extras, these are
supporting roles) from these cities. We start with LA.

THE PROCESS: Truly Democratic. Each participant will get their own
scene (a max of two minutes) and enact it in front of the audience
and a panel of 3 JUDGES (people from the industry) and the audience
will then vote for the best male and best female. The female and
male, can be any age, as long as they are over the age of 18 and
under the age of 101, actually 101 will also do.

THE VOTING: The votes cast by the audience will be given to the
judges, who will then determine the best, based on their own voting
and the voting of the audience members.

THE MOVIE: A regular Bollywood movie, yet not quite Bollywood, but to
be in English and to be for the audience in India (along with the
US/Canada/UK, etc and also having non lip synched songs, et all)

THE GENRE: A dramatic thriller

THE CATCH: When we say 2 mts, we mean 2 mts, every time a participant
goes over 2 mts, they lose one point automatically, per 30 seconds
over 2 mts.

THE PRIZE: A role in BLOOD MONEY, to be awarded, there and then (with
filming details to follow).

WHEN: Sun, Feb 17th, 2008 from 7 pm onwards

WHERE: Facade, Hollywood, CA, and followed by a
party from 10pm on, by our presenting partners, RK PROMOTIONS.

MORE DETAILS: http://www.rkpromotions.com/event.php? id=22943

If this is not a democratic process, what is. My friends are encouraged to attend, as are my enemies, cause the judges will judge on merely acting talent and since I don’t maintain my primary residence in LA (secondary one, yes), can’t say that I will be in a position to influence the audience.

So keep those headshots at home, keep the biceps in the gym and the _______ with the plastic surgoens, all we are looking for are solid actors and emoters…..and how hard is that…….yep HOW HARD THAT IS, but just present yourself and your script and you will get 2 minutes of stage time. All nationalities, genders, ethnicities, welcome.

Sincerely,

Vivek “please, no shouting in the name of acting and no large scale hand movements…ok..ok.. I am not the judge, as an audience I request…ok do what you have to, just let loose” Kumar

    Vivek,congrats on your script debut:)>-
Tell us more about the movie.
Who is the director? And who are these actors from Mumbai?

  2. Vivek Kumar on February 7th, 2008 1:03 pm

    Hi Arun,
Thanks for the best wishes. The producers at this stage don’t want me to talk about the movie too much, pending achievement of some milestones and targets that we have set, in the process. On achievement PFC will be the first to know. Just to retierate I have included solid actors here, not stars, not “they sell” types and definitely no, star offsprings, relatives , etc.Refer my earlier posts and you will get some idea of the actors I am talking about.

  3. vivek on February 7th, 2008 2:37 pm

Are u auditioning actors again any time soon ?
will tell me acting friends in LA about this..

  4. Vivek Kumar on February 7th, 2008 3:26 pm

In LA, this would be it (auditions), other cities we will be doing shortly (i.e. Toronto/NYC/Dubai/Malawi(not sure what the big city there is)/Bangkok and Mumbai (probably, not sure what the scene there is at this point, more the decision by the line producer/director)

  5. suchita b on February 8th, 2008 1:17 am

Congrats Vivek! PHINALLY…. Hey by the way a tip, you must consult Sajid Khan before starting, he has invented a formula for making hit films … he could help.

  6. Evelyn Tu on February 8th, 2008 2:01 pm

Vivek, an actor I am not. (I was practicing IM-ing like Yoda today.)

Will you let PFC posters be part of the audience on various stops?

  7. Vivek Kumar on February 8th, 2008 2:05 pm

Yep PFC can have their posters in LA, that I am sure, on the other cities, will have to work with whoever is helping us organize the event, eg, this one is being done by RK Promotions and they are cool with it
Suchita- if I get Sajid Khan involved, not sure about my investors, but my actors and the director will for sure, abandon me, right away:d

  8. PLAYBACK on February 8th, 2008 8:51 pm

Way to GO Vivek ! :)

  9. PLAYBACK on February 10th, 2008 11:56 pm

Also,…Can think of at least 6-7 films called “Blood Money” since 1917…!!! Any “inspirations” ?

  10. Vivek Kumar on February 11th, 2008 7:50 am

No good point, we will be going with a different real title, this is a working title, kind of puts the story in perspective and while have not seen any of the other 6-7 films, but if they are set in 1917 cannot be an inspiration for me, since almost all my stories are set on the last 4-5 year history or the present.

  11. Tillotama on February 12th, 2008 10:49 am

    Hi Vivek:
I am actress based in NYC and had acted the role of Alice in Mira Nair’s film Monsoon Wedding.I would like to dialogue with you about auditioning for your upcoming film.I am currently in India for another 2weeks and would love the chance to talk.My website is http://www.tillotamashome.com and it has my pics and showreel.Best, tillotama

  12. Vivek on February 12th, 2008 11:03 am

    Hi Tillotama,
Thanks for your interest and will touch base shortly. I liked your work in both Monsoon Wedding and in my freind, Jigyasa’s short film, Dussehra. I also think I saw you one in an elevator at Newport, NJ. Do keep in mind though that the primary roles have been assigned in my film, but there are supporting one’s, although I have a 3 movie writing deal, so there would be something more substantial in the future. Also by genre, I plan to make middle of the road, independent films, not completely Bollywood, but not Arthouse too, they will have songs, a quick pace, but not typically slow. I am upfront in admitting that I find most Ray films very boring, and have no idea who Fellini is although I have heard his name a million times.

  13. Indraneel on February 12th, 2008 10:33 pm

@Tillotama…Deepa..was pretty much well done!! Congrats!

  14. Tillotama on February 12th, 2008 10:45 pm

Vivek: Thanks for you reply and the disclaimer about ur films. Do Keep me posted and yes,i do live in newport!!!

  15. Vivek on February 13th, 2008 2:54 pm

Tillotama, thanks, I do have a slate of 4-5 films planned this year in the North American continent (partly), although for the India audience, two in which I am the scriptwriter and two which I am assembling the team (i.e. I am neither the scriptwriter nor the director), will put your name up for consideration in the projects. For 2 the director/scriptwriter is Toronto based, although originally, like me from Mumbai (20 years)& Delhi.

  16. amina on March 3rd, 2008 1:39 pm

Hi!! I just missed this casting call.I was wondering if you have any other near future casting calls coming up??? Thanks!

  17. Mohammed Quraishi on March 6th, 2008 9:22 am

    :d/

  18. Vivek Kumar on March 6th, 2008 6:52 pm

    Hi Amina/Mohd
FOr the current project we might do another casting call, depending on the director’s desire, but if this project gets executed efficiently I do have a writing contract for another one and a potential producing contract for another two, so there will be more opportunities and I will post first on PFC.
Going forward won’t be able to respond to every post here, not because I’m getting too big for my boots, but because the more “filmi” I get the more fearful I get of losing my “realism” so anytime not devoted to film is spent on the real world, hence will be slightly caught up in this “back and forth” to get back into film mode…ok now on to doing people’s taxes and playing my USTA tennis match tonite, cause that is more interesting than anything filmi…gime my tax and tennis over Scorseses and Kapur any day.

  19. Rani on April 17th, 2008 8:00 pm

Hey there, I’m a Melbourne,Australian Based Indian girl who deperately wants 2 get in Bollywood..I’m a dedicated and a down 2 Earth person..but the thing is i dunno where the bollywood auditions takes place.

Can you please share a few tips with me since u now alot about Bollywood industry.

  20. Vivek Kumar on April 18th, 2008 12:19 pm

Rani, I think PfC has some way more experienced and qualified people from Bollywood to answer your question re getting into Bollywood, than me. I am on my first project so hardly experienced and even there and thereafter would want to just do my stuff and not necessarily be around Bollywood folks, so not the most qualified.

Only thing I would say from one NRI to another…if you are serious about Bollywood, you have to get on that plane and show up in Mumbai..elese it is just wishful thinking. Same tip I give to folks in SF/LA/NYC.

  21. Siddharth Shukla on May 23rd, 2008 7:51 am

    Hi Vivek,

Any auditions in Mumbai in the coming future ?????

  22. Vivek on May 23rd, 2008 10:19 am

Will check with the designated director on that one. He is Mumbai based. Also since the other films that we make (some which I write and some which we produce) will be Mumbai centric (along with other locations), we will definitely be having casting calls for future one’s.

  23. sb on June 12th, 2008 1:33 am
