Proposal of the month _ KOKO Marry me OR Recco of the Month_ Luck By Chance!!!
I am gonna keep this concise and precise. I have no ‘ichcha’ to spoil your fun and as Anurag and Vasan before me, I too will give you a juSHT a reaction rather than a ‘review’. (come to think of it i dont do ‘reviews’)
About 2 months ago on a pretty cloudy day, I took a 1 hour bus ride to the outskirts of Melbourne to see Excel Entertainments then ‘masterpiece’ Rock ON!!. I really should have taken the cloudy skies as a SIGN! Then and there I coined a phrase for Excel Entertainment – the Kings of Sanitised Chick Flicks in Bollywood!!!
I was purely and unashamedly happy at my literary prowess (pls guys oblige me it happens once in a blue moon). UNtil NOW!!!
The otha Akhtar sibling had news for me. In one stroke of her hand, she has wiped the slate clean! Farhan has competition and that too of the superior variety!!!
There are 3 scenes which captured her sensitivity and skill effectively.
About 10 mins into the movie, specifically after the titles are done, if you dont feel a certain warmth in your heart (of the Paisa WAassoool variety) this movie just may not work for you.
the xtras dressed up as hawaldars, the lighting crew, the poster artists, the guy spraying the feathers from above for a magical dance bit, the old almost blid guy making the costumes, the astronauts at the canteeen, Zoya captures all and in their own magical dance.
But then you neva know, if you still aint bought well you are already there might as well check the rest of the shit out!
then around 30-40 mins on, just for the sheer pleasure of seeing a 30 sec metaphorically suggestive interlude of a star and a few street kids, making faces, laughing and playing with each other on either side of a luxury car window pane, in a hindi movie, i can bet the rest of ya, it must have been paisa wasoool by now!!!!!!..

well then lets go on….
i have an unfinished post in my harddrive titled ‘50 dollars worth’ , penned just after finishing Micheal Clayton, a few months back. if you are wondering about the connection here, well lemme change the title a bit, mebe, “16 dollar worth” (that being the price of the ticket out here) and every penny wasooooool!!!. the credit sequence immediately took me to the end credits for Meicheal Clayton with KonKOna filling in for Clooney. Before u guys go ‘oh cooooopppy!!!’ , lemme say if this ride had to end, i couldnt have picked a better way !!!!
The first minutes sets it up and the last makes you ponder about what just happened. What more do you want in a movie??!!
Well for the skeptics in you, the journey in between is as seamless and impactful as these scenes. Farhan effortlessly plays out the lead and Konkona takes over from Tabu as the girl who can do it all!
As for me…

If she agrees to marry you, let her continue to work in films. There are not many great actresses around and she needs to be in the industry. Any way, serious things apart, nice post and thanks for not disclosing details of the movie.

its a love letter to bollywood with all d gud,bad,ugly aspects. javed akhtar in top form after long…killer dialogues through out. and superb cameos by everyone. my fav charcter is dimple kapadia…with minimum dialogues, u get to know her past,present n future. it so so true, honest n scary. great opening credits…the ugly men who make it look everything beautiful and then d beautiful men who all hav their ugly sides…thats lBC!
