Remember PRAVAT !
Long back, probably in 1975 or 76, I saw a very interesting film poster pasted on the wall of the small cinema hall of my native town. We had two cinema halls in the town and we always preferred the hall with better seating accommodation. But the poster we found at the other cinema hall which was famous for those films which we were not allowed to watch in our school days.
But the poster, to be precise the lines wrote in the poster provoked us to wait for the movie. The lines I still remember, “yahan raat ke bad phir raat hote hai, subah nehi”. and the name of the film was PRAVAT. A line drawing of a dancer was also in the poster. We waited for the film, but it did not appeared in that silver screen.
Later we went to Guwahati for further study, completed study and joined in a press as a junior journalist.
The first day, I saw a block of a photograph on the editor’s table,I peeped into the block, tried to identify the face, I did not. editor said, he is Arjun Dev Rask. I did not know who was he. The editor added “Arjun is a brilliant dialogue writer of Hindi film and he has written dialogues for PRAVAT.
A silver lining. I will be able to know some details about the film. I asked with a curious tone-
: Pravat? have you seen the film?
: No I missed that film.
2002. I was working in Williamnagar, a remote place of Meghalya and I used to spend most of my time with books and Vividh Bharati. I hardly missed one programme BIOSCOPE KI BATEIN”. On that day, Lokendra has started the programme with his barritone voice . . Aaj hum jis film ke bare mein baat karenge, us film ka naam hai PRAVAT. At that moment I thought I have got back the pearl which was being lost in my teenage days. But luck did not favour me. Power failure . . . a common problem of that town. Power came back and till then Lokendra Sarma has wrapped off his programme.
