Remember those times – Sankat ‘mochan’ City
Remember those times when you dreamt of making a film that will devour the audience from its first frame…
Remember those times when you dreamt of taking the viewers to a joyride that will catapult them from one crest to another with the alacrity of a roller coaster…
Remember those times when you vowed after watching an imperfectly paced film that the film you make will have its tempo just spot on…
…and the music will flow out from your script and integrate itself so beautifully into the milieu of your film that the viewers forget that it’s essentially an external entity…
….and those brilliant actors like Kay Kay Menon, Anupam Kher, Rimi Sen(a complete revelation!!), Yashpal Sharma & Dilip Prabhawalkar who construct your cast savor their respective characters with such delight that you want to eat out of their hands…
…and that the content and story will take its rightful precedence over the niceties of camerawork…
Do you remember?
Remember those times when under the starless sky with a spliff and some blokes for company, you dreamt loudly of turning the eternal Bollywood formula on its head so deftly that the theatre gasps collectively…
…and the audience still laughs at the idea of two long lost brothers separated in a ‘mela’, meeting after eternity, as if one is watching it for the first time…
…and in the midst of all this absolute lunacy, unobtrusively & unexpectedly treat them to those moments of magic, which simply blow them away with their profundity and truth…
Remember those times…?
Remember those times and tell yourself that the dream is over!
Finito!
Fade Out!
For the moment, you can just watch it… like I did!
Hallelujah! Sankat City…
Hallelujah! Pankaj Advani…

pankaj,
It is only fitting that you made your blogging debut with your first release film ’sankat city’ on passionforcinema
“passionforcinema” encapsulates your life in the truest sense.
-for living a life on a staple diet of 5-6
films a day
-for seeing as different a genre of films as –
monkey shines, la strada,ladies special,100
days, ghayal, fargo..all on the same day
-for seeing every single release preferably
‘first day first show’(even if you were
starving)
-for saying that a single moment or a single
scene that touches you is worth the money spent
on any film
-for saying that all that a film has to have -
is its heart in its right place
-for knowning that the journey is important, not
the destination and if you think you have
arrived – it is the “END”
your big day tomorrow for the audience to watch with a large heart a truely wonderful film –
TAKE IT AWAY
Heartfelt post! Best of luck Pankaj. I hope the film works( at the box office), so that it encourages Bollywood’s tryst with mindless but intelligent comedies!
Remember to write, only when drunk!
