RGV ki Aag : Film Review
Ram Gopal Verma, predictably, disappoints big time in this one. This film might create a history of sorts. Reviewers might run out of synonyms for the word ‘bad’.
The film begins almost quietly, as if scared to exist amidst all the voices of dissent around. You kind of like it. The now historic events happen without any whimper, and you feel you are watching any other B grade film. There is no laughs, no cries, no reactions. Soon you hear names that you couldn’t have escaped in your childhood Doordarshan days. And you wonder, is that so? No, I must be mistaken. And you see Raj and Bheeru/Heeru/Hero (whatever is correct as per numerology or IPR) trying to pitch in a contemporary version of the classic narrative. You begin to squirm at the atrocity, and a pretty expensive one at that. It keeps getting worse, the character sketches that could beat any small town mimic mouthing those immortal lines. An impression act would actually be better. The so-called contemporarization of the narrative defies all logic and gravity. You feel sad as it plays with your happy memories. You close your eyes and wish you were rather doing anything else than being subjected to this excruciating trip in name of cinematic tribute.
Ram Gopal Verma has made a disaster of a film. And this is coming from someone actually doesn’t mind the indulgent camera and the emotion behind paying a filmic homage.
Some of the better parts are the opening titles and their placing, it catches you unawares. It impresses with its quiet entry. It works fine where it is non-Sholay, and more of RGV. Babban‘s entry is rightly prolonged. It comes late and adds to the effect. His intro scene is surprisingly tolerable if you can digest a “Kitne” instead of the proverbial “kitne aadmi the” (it almost seems that the whole cast has made the assumption the audience knows the lines by heart, so they don’t even bother to utter them in whole). Not going into further specifics, Babban impresses in only one more scene, the much talked about amputation/crying-out-loud-till-your-woofers-give-up scene.
Rest of the cast is a sad compromise. The whole film smells of a series of half-hearted intentions gone terribly wrong. And what’s worse? There is no inkling of a regret. The actors are so ineffective its no wonder the camera prefers to keep them out of focus most of the times. And I mean the long shots, not the pimple-obsessed close-ups. It’s a messy affair, and a historic one, as Ramu himself puts it(“Either way, I am gonna create history!). Basanti’s worst avatar, Ghungroo keeps switching to anger to confusion to god-knows-what emotions. There is only Devgan, Bachchan and Mohanlal who can carry such levels of mediocre briefing to an actor. It would be criminal to expect that from newcomers. Sushant Singh can be happily added to the list. His smirk and Babban’s “aye Tamble” sequences make for some rarely seen good moments in the film.
Sushmita Sen needs a vacation. She views films in black and white. Its either expression or the lack of it, make-up or the lack of it, sincerity or the lack of it.
I kept looking for the much proclaimed ‘cinematic moments’ till the very end. Even a remote follower of the film milestone that Sholay is would have some spark somewhere. At least a couple of characters reaching half the height of their ancestors? None at all. It almost feels the director started with something, went back to direct 2-3 other films, then realized he has to blow the money on this one as well, came back and wrapped it up somehow. RGV’s love for Sholay keeps fluctuating to annoying effects. And you keep scratching your head as to what the hell is happening. Is it a take, a spoof, a joining together of reference points, a practical joke, or just a stoner’s outing?
The grip is surprisingly alive till the first half. After that, its just a rush to reach the titles. And God Almighty, what a rush! It takes longer than Shivaji’s climax to wrap up the affairs. It is only the almost holy place that Sholay and Amitabh Bachchan occupy in the Indian psyche that you still see people holding on till the very end. Even a “Diwali kab hai”(God knows who could suggest ‘that’ adaptation) induces suppressed giggles.
Talking about the technique, Amit Roy is good. Sadly his work gets masked behind a sleep-friendly direction. The music is racy but let down by poor realization on screen. Mehbooba is better….than the recent version by The Man with the Cap, if that is some consolation. I am glad they edited that bare-chested Devgan song, or I wouldn’t have sat till the end.
The setting is another huge disappointment. It beats me to think why someone would give up the lovely ravines for dull and dark studio interiors. The whole western feel of the plot is sacrificed. Babban’s character should roar like a lion, his echoes should numb you. He should send shivers down your spine. Nothing happens. What you get instead is a geriatric version of the lion, along with a thinking, mulling, sulking Thakur, who is neither stark in his revenge/anger nor dynamic in his reactions(forget the inimitable portrayal by Sanjeev Kumar),who also ends up looking more like a caricature towards the end. Such a shame to see an actor of such caliber stoop down so much. His sincerity through all this nonsense continues to prick you. The delivery and the intensity you loved in Company is reduced to a laughing matter here. And all this for what? “My homage to a film that inspired me”? Not justified.
If you have just been born, come back from a time travel or a lifelong hibernation, watch it. If you have the faintest memories of Sholay, stay as far as you can. It might just make you full of ‘Aag’ in any other case.

6 out of 10… PFC will go down in history as giving the highest points to this movie. Thanks for making us infamous :)
lol, Oz. 6 is considering everything. I wouldn’t take it away from the actors and technicians all because of an obsessed man at the helm.
ohh..no not again…
Sarkar raj…darling…Cobra…:((
plzz RGV…still hopes r alive…
If this is a flop (which looks like)…plzz do not try to remake RGV ki aag to improve it even further…
Tushar, first accept congratulations for giving so many lines for a review of AAG..IMO it should be consigned to flames asap..And i disagree with you about Ajay Devgan & AB being saving grace..They are the biggest let down..Everybody acting so concious of the precedent and trying to outdo it..No boss..not done..its a disaster and reflection of a highly over-confident and self-indulgent mind that things he has the midas touch..This one sadly has turned into ashes with his touch..Either you don’t categorise as a joke or don’t rate it 6..It does not even deserve half of it..I am so mad i don’t go on further lest i venture into troll territory..Amen
@krysh. thanks. agree with you on the long review thing. its more of an outburst I guess. on devgan and AB, I didn’t call them saving grace. noone is the saving grace here. the only saving grace was the interval. :d . I meant Devgan did surpass my expectations in being so dedicated, and actually doing all the crazy things RGV asked him to do.
6??? So, its 3/5. Itni lambi kahani aur itni high rating? Tushar, u said actrs r bad. Technicians…..Thy hav 2 go wth d film. By that logic u shld giv 20/10 2 bhansali n vvc. Kya baat kar raha hai ya? Ab aag tu jhelega….
pehle hi jhel chuka hoon re! ek lifetime mein ek baar bahut hai :)
I don’t give cumulative rating for my review in The Telegraph. So I will rate RGV Ki Aag here. It’s a 0.5 out of 10 for me as I believe there’s some potential in Prashant Raj. The rest is the most inane pieces of shot-taking in the name of cinema that has ever been served on Indian celluloid. There is also a Bengali film which released today called Pagal Premi which had a line Aah for Agarpara, Ooh for Ultadanga… I so envy my colleague who got to review that movie…
6/10?! Typo kya? LOL… Though I enjoyed reading this and hell even Raja Sen’s review, I really don’t see the point. Of even bothering with a review, that is. C’mon, did anyone really expect this to be anything OTHER than trash?! The whole thing - concept, title, casting, characters, setting, music, etc - was a fool-proof, guaranteed recipe for disaster from the start. And now we have PNC also coming up with the bright idea of a….Sholay remake! Will they never learn?????????????????????????????????????????????
PS: I’m saying this without even watching it. That’s how sure I am about how crap it is.
oh common, there must be at least one person who liked the film! maybe it will be me only… yet to watch the film….
:-D
@Pratim,at times one believes in things that are never there..Prashant Raj..He may be tall, dark and handsome to some..To me he could be handsome when it is dark..Potential!I doubt man(did u observe his dialogue delivery towards the climax, he seems to have problem pronouncing R properly or is it ‘popely’–seems to lisp)..But you never know..If luck is on his side and he is a destiny’s child then i may eat crow..
@night on August
i think when RGV conceived the idea of a remake or paying a homage to something ‘immortal’ he never visualised it will be such an unmitigated disaster..And Pritish Nandy is another whacko to indulge his brain cells in pyrotechnics..Instead of remaking the classics it is hight time these self-styled czars had a classic makeover of themselves!
Pratim, does it even deserve that much? Thankfully I am off the cinemas this week. I don’t have to bear it. Even, I pity on you. Poor fellow, you! Now RGV can surely be compared with the ilks of Haranath Chakraborty, Swapan Saha et al. I don’t know many of them or haven’t seen any film, though. Today haranath was criticising Aag in Star Ananda. Baba Keno Chakor, Sindoor Khela, Swami Chhintai are the films which “inspired” Ramu to make this !#$$&$&%$, &^&^^&^%^%^^##*)(*(&)*^&%%&&%. Ooff! Can’t get enough words. Mind it, I have not seen the aforementioned films nor do I wish to do so in the worst of my worst nightmares. A list of such films/ jatras are published in Anandabazar every week!
Now, I feel you should add another grid of cumulative rating in t2 like the ETC days.
*****************
“Karan Johar makes horror films”. Huh! Constant mockery of Karan Johar, Yash Raj in every single film! Though, I am speaking without any knowledge of this mighty AAG from the self-proclaimed perfectionist. Don’t you think that even “Neal ‘n’ Nikki” was 1000000 notches higher than this film> I haven’t seen NNN too! But that’s the one and only comparison (which is possibly better) comes to my mind. We are obviously not going to Chak De.
Now, it has become very smart of filmmakers (oops! did I spell it right?) to declare every now and then, “You know what! I know the crictics will hurl at my with their monstrous gallery of expletives. I have just done it my way.” Genius! And aren’t we forgetting the mostestet grandestest daddy on ‘em all? “I stand by Aag….I am confident of this movie”, said THE BBBBigBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB. There’s no way you can mention this superhuman without using a big THE. Weren’t the trailers ’nuff to determine how masterful, energetic, grand (are taking it seroiusly?) performance can it be? “The only star in B’wood who can act”? I still can’t believe this is the man who gave us Khakee, Sholay (’75), Anand, Sarkar. Some movies are really understood from the trailers per se. I could easily guess what the cinematography (a Bong from my homeland who eventullay changed his name for B: Amit Roy) or the music/ b.g. score (heyy aaaagggg yehhhh!) would be. Oof, if that was the trailer, so what would be the movie like?
Any (slightest) hope left? Nope!
RGV said in an interview “I didn’t like Don (’06).” Now let me sound like a traditional rediff message board user. “Wasn’t Don a masterpiece IN EVERY SINGLE DEPARTMENT? Obviously! And we are not comparing these two films. I mean it!”
Now, the opinions expressed here are merely personal opinions. No offence meant to anyone! I didn’t intend to attack anyone. I respect everyone’s opinions and point of views. I am not posting any adverse opinion in reply to anyone. So, I would expect ecery one to do so.
Thanks!
Tushar… I am still going to spend 10$ and watch it anyways… Am sure I will get a kick out of it.
Anyways, bhai 6/10 - seriously! Of what i have heard and also that you considered everything… isn’t that a little too much…
@night :d…i second that.i seem to be doing that too often.
i wonder is it a case of “so bad that its good” ??
@Charles Foster Kane, ur opinion is no offence..but this guy who believes in doing things his way has certainly offended the sensibilites of audience..How dare he take it for a ride..How dare he consider it a moron..No bro,RGV cannot be excused for this flagrant violation of human rights! And if AB was so keen on reprising Amjad Khan’s take on Gabbar, sorry BIG B this time you have hammed in a B grade movie BIG time..
And Charles..btw Neal N Nikki can’t even be compared with this..as that was not even a film..At least this an apology of that.
@aj,anyone with masochistic traits may get some pleasure out of so- bad- that- its- good genre..
Maybe it has to do with the fact i have a headache??
Or maybe it has more to do with the fact that I was so angry that Indian distributors never deliver prints on time, and I had to see ‘Heyy Babyy’ at midday??
Or maybe it’s to do with the fact that when the print finally arrived I had to get up 4 times to ask the staff at the cinema to tell the projectionist that the film wasn’t actually on the screen, but was over it??
Well, whatever the reasons are, truth is I really didn’t like what I saw in ‘Aag’!!
What happens to RGV sometimes??
I’m such a huge fan of his, but this film really didn’t do it for me!!
I can’t even talk about it right now….
Oh, a thought which went through my mind every couple of minutes or so….
Why is this film called ‘Ram Gopal Varma’s AAG’??
It should’ve been called ‘Nisha Kothari’s Ass’!!
I’m serious!!
There were too many shots of it!!!!
well i enjoyed ‘gunda’ ..if it belongs to that category i might enjoy that …do i have masochistic traits?…hmm sochna padega
And yes, Amit Roy’s work is excellent!
And there wasn’t enough of Sushmita!
And..I actually liked Big B, but wanted him to be scarier!
aj, Gunda is a cult. sadly this can never become one even for all the wrong reasons in the world. it doesn’t even evoke laughter. the comedy show spoofs are much better.
@steve, kahaan ho boss?!
“It should
Last heard…RGV is thinkin’ of remaking Black Friday…and if the informant to be believed, Rakesh Maria will be played by (no prize for guessing) Nisha Kothari who would torture criminals with all the toys for S&M.
And oh yes…there will be close up…plenty of it.
Enough bad things have been written/said about aag (and its still the first day) so I won’t repeat them. It sucks. It’s ALWAYS sucked. No surprises.
I was disappointed far too many times en route to aag’s release to ever want to watch it.
If having his name in the title didn’t signify RGV’s self-indulgence, over-confidence and outright refusal to see beyond his self-image to the audience expectations, then the casting should have been the red flag alerting fans away from this film.
You can’t imagine the number of times my friends and I have sat around and imagined the potential star cast of a contemporary SHOLAY remake.
Remember, SHOLAY was about as mainstream a film as can be, right from Salim-Javed to Ramesh Sippy to R.D. Burman to Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malina, Jaya Bhaduri, Asrani, Jagdeep, and of course Amjad Khan.
Only one debut performance, and that too of a talented theatre artiste who was a prominent assistant director. Not some model off the damn street.
Keeping that in mind this is just one of the many combinations we came up with:
Sanjay Dutt as Gabbar Singh
Anil Kapoor as Thakur Baldev Singh
Akshay Kumar as Veeru
Ajay Devgan as Jai
Rani Mukherjee as Basanti
Tabu as Radha
as Soorma Bhopali
Anupam Kher as the Jailer
Kader Khan as Imaam Saheb
Jimmy Shergill as Ahmed
Rajpal Yadav as Hariram (Jailer ka jasoos)
Arshad Warsi as Soorma Bhopali
Directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi.
It’s not about making the film totally star-studded, its about making the characters special, and casting actors who have established themselves, who have earned the right to play those respective characters. THAT’s how you play a tribute, by raising the film its characters to a level where its a privilege to be associated with a classic.
When visualizing a contemporary version of SHOLAY, the film you grew up with, how many actually pictured Nisha Kothari as Basanti? If that didn’t give something away, then… you know what, just forget it…
very well put, Tony. I love the dream cast you mentioned. agree with you perfectly on the paying tribute thing. it hurts those who have grown up on sholay, listening to those audio casettes with dialogues and rehearsing them for fun times, more to see such a run down version.
25th of August 7.50 pm, Saturday
I was working. I work for Deloitte btw. My colleague and friend Anita got a call, her mom.
Beta Lumbeenee parak, Gokool Chat lo Bomb vispot. (yes, you can say typical South Indian accent)
3 minutes pass and its my Dad calling.
Beta ghar aaja, lumbini park aur gokul chat may bomb blast hue. Kab aara?
My firm provides me with home drop facility but as the blast took place near by to where I stay, I was asked to wait uptill next logout i.e 11, so that things get under control. I decided to stay back.
I was tired, informed my dad that I’m gonna be late and it was peace.
Sitting inside, airconditioned, was done for the day.
Hungry. Ordered food. Had my dinner. Killing time. But still at peace.
Hey Baby got released on 24th, Dad saw it, was dying to see it, didn’t get the tickets for friday morning show.
Sunday- difficult, friend’s engagement, no movie for the week. How am I gonna survive, its an insult to my ownself, couldn’t look into the mirror.
And yes, Bomb Blasts. I saw some horrible visuals on television (these guys scare you) The splinters used poked into people’s brains, eyes and what not?
Coming back to office, it was peace. I work for a US incorp. Co. No fear. Tight security.
You can’t even enter our campus with Lakshmi Bomb, forget the real one.
Reached home. sleeep.
Sunday- fultoo busy.
Friends engagement. Its embarrassing, you talk for hours with her but still asked & expected to act as strangers when exchanging rings. It was hilarious.
Bomb Blasts. Heyy Babyy. Missed.
Next week.
Ram Gopal Varma ki AAG
Dhokha
Victoria no.203- Avoid
Was about to go to Bombay on saturday (1st sept.) but had work. So cancelled.
So had made up my mind,
Friday morning show Dhokha, sunday night show- AAG with Dad.
Done for the week.
It was peace. This thought also came in my mind- As the blasts have just taken place, there’s gonna be fultoo security at theatres too( no tension, I am safe, at peace)
16 bombs in total were found- some were found in theatres too..
I consider a theatre no less than a temple.
How dare they implant a bomb in a theatre.
Lumbini Park is ok. Just went there once.
Gokul Chat is scary. Used to go there everytime I had to buy some books. But now that I have completed my Grad. Its ok.
But theatre????
You guys are spoiling my fridays and sundays, infact spoiling my life for I can’t imagine my life without films.
What harm did I do? Stay away from theatres. Pls.
You can learn so much from films. Pls.
Couldn’t see Dhokha because of you. Mom strictly asked to sit at home and watch T.V but no films for some weeks. She says. I’ll have to listen.
Next week, Darling…coming weeks…..Johnny Gaddar….No Smoking….
I’ll be missing hell lot of films.
Pls Keeep me informed. No bombs in theatres pls.
and as they say, life is strange… I am leaving for Bombay as I had wished…
Now pls no bombs in train..I want to live… Saawariya & Om Shanti Om.. gotto see which one scores.
Fear.
what is this, Bridget Jones Part 3?
RGV’s AAG couldnt set the screens on fire..a very big dissapointment! hope his next weeks release bails him out..it’s RAM GOPAL VARMA ki DARLING!!
I have a feeling DARLING will work and probably do better business compared to RGV’s AAG..what say guys?
@krysh, Thank you. That’s what I wnated to say! Seconding your thoughts, I’d like to say, anybody who tries to make this (farce) happen or helps to make it happen, should be tried in a court of law. As a standalone film too! If this is the state of the “realistic and classy” films from the man who tore the “mainstream” Bollywood apart with his harsh comments, I don’t know what to do. Long live Marigold! (Haven’t seen it too! Was it a film too? Did Salman act better than AB?) But, could you really sit through Neal ‘n’ Nikki?
Cheers!:d
And, to clear some misconceptions about my praise of RGV, Amitabh in the first comment, that was all cheap and crass sarcasm. Sorry, but I could not anything better.
CFK with all due respect lets not compare crap (Neal N’ Nikki, Marigold) to crap (Aag)… I know your doing it sarcastically but still…
I guess I’m upset, well that and a little drunk.. so I’ll make a confession… even though throughout the making and throughout all the hype, I was dreading this film, I was still a slight bit hopeful it would at least be half-decent.. I mean, if the man took on the “challenge” to openly remake one of THE most memorable films our country has EVER produced, he should have also taken on the responsibility to live up to audience expectations.. RGV should’ve kept it at the forefront of his mind how many people are such huge fans of SHOLAY.. If your gonna do it, do it right and not have it be just one of the 3 films your directing this year..
Its funny, there have been other quasi-Sholay remakes in the past (Joshilay, Mela, China Gate… even Keemat was Sholay+Dushman).. but I guess since those films never claimed to be a “tribute” or even “an updated version” of the film, they at least didn’t carry the burden of such huge expectations…
I’ve always thought that the best way to satisfy your audience is to set clear expectations during the pre-release promotion and then exceed them when you’ve got your audience in the cinema halls…
Magar yeh ho na saka…
ZzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzz…….I slept for 30 mins during the second half…Even Marigold could not manage to do that!
Bhaago bhaago cinema hall me ram gopal verma ki “AAG” lagi hai,Kal raat me show end hone ke baad main yahi soch raha tha. :((
:(( :(( :(( :(( :((
Ramu’s first movie Shiva worked because of Nagarjuna and S.Gopal Reddy…Without them, it would have been crap.
Rangeela worked because of Aamir Khan and AR Rahman . everyone knows the creative involvement of Aamir.
Satya worked because of Anurag Kashyap.
Only Ramu’s creativity - you get a RGV ki Aag! He either has been lucky or clever to get talented people to work for him and pass it on as his own talent. Composing awesome shots does not make you creative.
A man who is not honest to his profession is bound to fail.
Any normal audition would have rejected Nisha Kothari but she got the role purely due to her special capabilities! Ramuji, the crores you are spending on your whims, is in fact aam juntas money, peoples careers are riding on your movies, it is time for you to be sincere to ur profession instead of trying to make your heroines happy so they make you happy!
Machcharji, by that logic then Jungle & Company would be due to the creative genius of Jaideep Saini (makes sense to me)… but then what about Ramu’s other films… Sarkar? Manish Gupta? I guess the other good films he’s directed would be Daud (which I thought was so-so) and Mast…
I can’t wait for the media’s reaction.. Ramu’s next interview should be good… he can’t really avoid it considering Darling’s releasing next week…
i thought for once, atleast nisha kothari was ok in this movie. she has improved a lot since her last movie.
the movie failed miserably in establishing the characters, and the environment. what problems are the villagers facing with babban? do we get to see that? just one line of dialogue to explain the situation and conflict? i donno what RGV was thinking.
probably it’s the film for filmmakers. but why release it then?
Tony, I completely agree with you! You suggested we should not compare crap [films] with crap. But then again, a term called “film” comes here. So can they really be called films? And I had extremely negative expectations from the day I heard RGV was remaking it. So, it HAS exceeded my expectations by collecting very high ratings like 0. It should be rated negatively.
Now, Amitabh gave this interview to Subhash K Jha prior to release. It’s published now. Some excerpts follow (it’s from IndiaFM):
There was [AAG] a very wide canvas. There’re several smaller characters who have been very nicely portrayed. I specially love Mohanlal. I love his craft. He’s an exceptional artiste. With such simplicity he’s able to display emotions that are so complex.
If that was not enough, see below:
Sholay was the first film that Ramu saw. So he has a nostalgic attachment to that film. But Ramu has developed his own vision based on his attachment to Sholay. To bring the whole theme and characters into the city is a very bold and brave thing to do………Ramu’s craft is totally different from Ramesh Sippy’s……….I’m comfortable working with Ramu. So why not another film?
Need we say anymore? The bold letters say everything. So we take those words post release. What do you say, Mr. Superstar of the Millenium or the star-actor? I am not misqouting him. You can get it here: http://indiafm.com/features/2007/09/01/2994/index.html
No offence meant to anyone!
The problem with Ramu is that he is seriously going down the road on which Rajesh khanna has already travelled. MEGALOMANIA can destroy the best of people.
What he needs to do is to seriously trust and respect writers. He has a gang of complete chutiyas {all yes men pumping his ego} taking him on a grand ride while they themselves make good money.
He is still a good filmmaker. He still gives breaks to good talent {Prashant Raj has potential}
but his head is all screwed up now. All the writers who could have done something for him have left to places where they get more respect, trust and money. Ramu needs to learn fast and quick otherwise he would be Rajesh Khanna No. 2.
I’d like to highlight some specific words from the above AB interview: nostalgic, attachment, vision, whole theme, very bold, brave, craft, comfortable. AB Sr. wants us to take these words seriously, I guess. Tha surely shows the state of his mind. And yes! SKJ never misquotes him!
” Ramuji, the crores you are spending on your whims, is in fact aam juntas money, peoples careers are riding on your movies, it is time for you to be sincere to ur profession instead of trying to make your heroines happy so they make you happy!”
I concur.
Once up on a time I was a ramu fan, but his oeuvre has shifted from work to women.
Its so fuckn disappointing.
@Machhar..with all the hell let loose lets give devil his due..Ramu’s Shiva and Satya are not on ly actor and writers baby..Rangeela may be as everyone takes for granted that Aamir Khan has to put his perfectionist finger in the pie..RGV has been good..With Company,Sarkar,Bhoot..i agree you as to his misplaced priorities..Guy does not seem to look beyond boobs, it seems!
@Just Another Struggler
you have a valid point about his megalomania and not respecting his crew and teammates by treating them in a very patronising manner..
All said and done AAG could be his nemesis if he does not take up emergency firefighting measures.
Machchar don’t discredit him for all his great films.. those films worked because of him.. satya definitely was him
“making your heroines happy so that they make you happy ” @suchita …happy???hows that?were you refrring to urmila’s cleavage and nisha’s ass??
Anurag have you seen AAG? i think machchar’s reaction is so strong because he saw AAG. satya was him but after satya, company & naach personally i have not liked any of his films.naach was in 2004 so i guesS it has been pretty long he gave us the audience a ram gopal varma phillum.
One unshakable fact about AAG is that it’s a bore.. through and through.. no two thoughts.. second glance discarded. But the saving grace, if any, and since it’s being discussed a lot would be Ramu’s teeth-gnashing anarchy. Wether you like it or not, Ramu has balls/ego to set his paws on a revered classic and turn into something so fecund. Feel the anger from behind the camera when Amitabh plays notelessly on a mouth-organ before promptly proceeding to digs his nose in close-up. At such moments, it is a progression of his angsty ‘Naach’ but obviously the difference lies in the cinematic values. Where ‘Naach’ was bouyant and graceful, AAg is a cesspool of ennui and nonsense. It’s heavyhanded the way a lead ball is when attatched to a person drowning. The washed-out colors, the close-ups, the studied frames.. all suggest a claustrophobia which bog the films ‘B’ charms down. Consider, the two halves of Kill Bill. The first was a freewheeling bitch-on-heat and was awash with yellows and pinks. The second one was philosophical, ponderous and hence the sombre towns. AAG has the content of the former but the tone of the later and ends up obviously cacaphonus. Kill Bill operated in a pop-culture word, same as AAG, and limits it’s quasi-philosophy to Superman and The ShotGun Assasins. So when Ramu brings up tasteless snides to CIA and Al Quaeda and Gandhi, they ring with snores. And then there was Nisha Kothari……….
Ramu is definitely a very talented director who makes some stupid films in between , i’m sure he will in his best with sarkar raj
I just dont understand.. Sholay or no Sholay…that is so is not the case here… I think its that man’s sensibility that has taken a beating off-late…
I have said this before… It all started with Sarkar.. For the first time I felt like I was being subjected to fleeting cardboard characterisations in RGV Flick.. And that trait has stayed on..
I just get the feeling that off-late he is too used to giving tongue-in-cheek, cute comments in the media… One of my friends once said, it just seems he is trying too much to be like the characters he creates.. I did not quite agree with him entirely on that one.. But now I feel like there was some truth there… Its like a one-man vendetta against some people that he raises in the media.. And further he seems to be making movies just to counterbalance those neat comments he makes in the media..
//Rangeela worked because of Aamir Khan and AR Rahman . everyone knows the creative involvement of Aamir.
Satya worked because of Anurag Kashyap//
LOL… that is such a myth..I hope it is so.. I know it is… and so disregarding of a man’s talent, hardwork and vision
i did not read a word. i swear. dis can’t be true. no matter wut u guys say - i m gonna watch AAG and come out unscathed. [-(
Krysh: “think when RGV conceived the idea of a remake or paying a homage to something
spoof it looks like ..i actually think i will enjoy it .i neve worshiped ’sholay’ , so i wont feel offended. it w ill be better than wathcing other releases i am sure even if for all the wrong reasons.
@night btw have u now seen the movie or still comenting without watching it :d
Anurag, I disagree. Any person who would have made this C-grade trash is incapable of making anything better all alone.
I actually got a feeling that I was watching a dubbing movie!
Many months ago, all ramu suckers ganged up against me here for saying how RGV and his cronies are more interested in screwing around than good cinema. Now you can see what the whole world is talking.
Macchar and of Maachar ilk
What are we a lynch mob?
Okay so Ramu has given us a rotten apple doesn’t mean he hasn’t done great work before and atleast let credit remain where credit is due, his works of greatness are because of him!!!
Instead of celebrating at the pyre of his failure celebrate his past success and hope that he will soon bounce back because I should as hell would like to see Ramu deliver a good solid true blue Ram Gopal Varma film
hi,
i just watched rgv ki aag and dhokha back to back.
aag was horrible. the worst movie i have seen. period
but dhokha was an amazing movie. i rate it right after chak de as the best movie to have come out this year.
it exceeded all my expectations.
please watch it and let me know ur opinion about it
mr machchar……
hav u lost it…….
rangeela –aamir and AR
satya anurag
aamir and AR also gave us Mangal Pandey
anurag gave us SLBB and i also read his name in the end credits of JBJ…..(special thanks)
not even hundreds of duds like AAG and SHIVA2 can take nething away from Ramu’s brilliant SATYA , RANGEELA, COMPANY amd SHIVA….
i just hope he returns back to his best….( SARKAR had some glimpses of his brilliance especially the scene where abhishek says
” Tumhe maarne ke liye mera yahan hona zaroori nahi, magar tumhe marte hue dekhne ka mazaa main khona nahi chahta “)
p.s anurag bhai ..wat did u have to do with JBJ?
No wonder Machchar always sucks!!
Machchar, if you thing you know RGV better than anurag then disagree with him, otherwise your nonsense comment surely deserves a swatter…..phattaaaakk!!!
Well, I would like to remind you folks of this particular week/ date. Just 52 weeks before AAG released and on this particular date (September 1), there released a film called LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI. Surely, one of the biggest milestones of Indian cinema. The hype level by media was almost zilch before release. Yet!
Suparn,
Out of all these people here, you can find no bigger fan of RV than me. Well, atleast at one point of time I was the biggest fan.
No one else would have faced police lathi charge to buy tickets for Siva in Devi 70mm. No one would have seen that movie 100 effin times. No one else would have got a real stomach ache laughing one of is memorable movies money money. I still laugh at the scene where chinna is in the auto ricksaw with chakri and havin a heart attack looking at the meter.
Brahmandam as Khan Dada is memorable. “Khan toh games pettukovaddu” was an unforgettable dialogue.
But after Satya, not a single movie as been on the level of any of his previous movies. That made me doubt whether all the past laurels were really his?
Naach made me leave the theatre mid way. Shiva2 made me want to die. Booth was silly, Sarkar, nothing new, Nishabd I did not even bother to see. Aag made me angry! I am writing this as a movie fan, not any filmi camp wallah…
mr machchar……
hav u lost it ?

Macchar I have seen Shiva 63 times and can discuss it frame for frame including its inspiration from the Sadma climax scene where Kamal Hassan is running towards the train and hits the lamp post similarly here in shiva the guy running with the shadows against the wall scene where he hits the lampposts!
I have revered the man, as a journalist and the 6 months I spent writing for him and know him at close quarters!
He made several bad films off late. Fine. He did. But u as a fan, critic, aam junta or member of the industry have no right of business taking away credit of his success!
@Machhar
If you ever were a true fan of RGV, you wouldn’t even doubt about who is responsible for success of Satya, Company etc.. Any regular RGV audience can recognize his touch in all the movies he directed..
Even for the worst movies directed by varma, it is impossible for me to walk out of the theatre with disappointment… It’s not just bcos I am a fan of RGV, but I can always find those signature shots of Varma, which keep me satisfied..
As Anurag pointed out in his comments, its just a different RGV that we have now.. Anyway, to me is the real life Howard Roark, who will always do what he thinks is right…
Without a doubt, everybody will agree that his recent works have been very substandard..one can only hope that we see a change in his personality again..
No matter how bad his films are…once an RGV fan..always an RGV fan..
Tushar bhai!!
Main yahaan hoon bhidu, LOL!
I was hibernating the last few months.
But fikr not, I’m back to stay!
Ricky, yes I agree with you, infact I am seriously hoping that this is a classic case of the ‘underdog’ film (Darling) overtaking the mega hyped ‘extravaganza!!
We shall find out next week!
And Machchar, no way man!!
This has certainly NOT put me off Ramu, and all those films were definitely him!
Ok, so I do feel annoyed with him for this and ‘Shiva2′ but he is still my fave and probably always will be.
I guess that’s why I’m miffed, as I KNOW he can do better than this!
Much, much better!
C’mon Ramu, dikhaade!!!
Guys,
Saw the film yesterday with the wife in a Pune multiplex. The hall was 40% full (a 400 seater). My wife had already called up friends in Mumbai and got the news that it was bad. She wanted to see Dhokha. But my RGV success anxiety made me chose this film. When we queued up for the tickets we could see that people were ignoring Aag and plumping for Dhokha and Heyy Babyy. I put it to RGV fatigue. 1 good movie and all of them would again fall in line for true blue RGV movie again.
Then, the movie started. I could actually see that here was a completely off kilt script going in no direction except run down every original Sholay situation. Nisha Kothari was so awful and poorly characterised that she was actually fumbling and the editors could not do anything with her large screen presence. Ajay and Prashant did not have even one single memorable line. Forget, the original sholay…this did not get upto TLV Prasad levels..then poor Mohanlal had a characterisation that could not evoke any sympathy, honour or a sense of belonging!
Sushmita was plain disinterested. I think she had smelt long back that she had been hard done by the director.
Into this muddle came in AB. nOW, It was very apparent that AB wanted to rule the frames from the time he came into the picture. But, with all the problems in the characterizations..he was plain stupid..one minute he was groaning..next he was giggling…suddenly he was roaring..then he was limping…then he was striding across the screen…HERE IS WHERE I FOUND THAT THE MEGALOMANIAC WAS NOT ONE BUT “TWO” - RGV AND BIG B.
What do you do when you have two people intent on destroying a movie for themselves and their whims!AB is at such a point where is starting to go overboard in his portrayals if he is guided well as he is like that guy who says “I know it all and I can do it all”. Also that he had done pretty much everything over all these years, so he wanted to get kinky and quirky..and How!!!
RGV let him be and constructed the rest of the movie around his antics…imagine the thing with Urmila in the car!! So bloody unnecessary and tasteless!
Also, just as I feared…any remake of Sholay needed a big budget..and I know RGV has tight budgets these days..so he did what he could..put the whole set up in some rundown factory lot…and that looked..in spite of some ajeebogareeb cam angles..no that does not make good frames..sorry..the lack of budget came through totally..even the Ooty - Mithunda movies have better finishes!!!!
Probably, the first time…i had no good word for a RGV movie..I feared it..seeing the poster and how all the other decent actors were elbowed aside by Urmila’s boobs and AB’s smirk!!
If RGV has such an ache for Urmi..he should sort out his issues, get back with her, stop that Nisha business…and at least try to make another decent prequel, sequel or anything of Satya!!! Because only she lived at the end of it!!!! Probably, that would be much more palatable…Now, all of you..be forewarned about Sarkar Raj…the two megalos are at work there too…thsi time I shall take it easy and catch the movie if I hear at least ONE guy here speak of it in decent terms!!!
Imagine..to get over, I had to see “Bawarchi” midnight on to smile through and regain my faith in the movies!!
Tony Mera Naam, very impressive list!
Infact so much better than the actual cast in the film (although I loved Sushmita)
Abhishek as Jai and Saif as Veeru wouldn’t be too bad either, no??
i hope RGV is reading all these comments….. :)
Some of his best works were in telegu.. shiva, kshana kshanam, money, gayam,Ana Ana ga oka roju…
i think he should return to telegu film industry and get his creativity back.
Guys,Imagine this … 2 hour movie(comic-tragedy) with brahmanandam(people who have seen RGV telegu movies will know how RGV extracts great performance from brahmanandam) as a hero with RGV as director.
i have an idea… can people at PFC develope this into a full bound script?
Yeah great idea! I am bored so why not write a story…
Brahmanandam is a 40 year old unmarried frustrated call center executive. He has the hots for his team leader but she in turn is turned on by another man, the project manager, who is a married man.
One day, both the girl and the PM decide to go on a secret holiday and plan a hot weekend. They book their tickets and plan to meet in the aircraft directly.
Brahmanandam overhears their plan and decides to do something. He manages to delay the PM and gets him stuck somewhere.
Brahmanandam decides to take his place and try to woo the girl in the holiday destination.
Brahmanandam buys a ticket in the same plane and acts surprised when he meets the girl in the aircraft.
But Brahmanandam does not know what is in store for him. He realizes that this was not a love trip by these couple and something far more sinster.
But he is trapped!
Okay…I wrote this story as soon as I saw the above post…only for fun!!
One thing that the film proved that we still have Angrezon ke zamaane ke jailor.. Yesterday there was a rumor in the town EP cinema me aag lag gayi” and when the police force and fire brigade reached the multiplex, they found it was “Ramgopal Verma Ki Aag”, something even the complete police force wont be able to tackle with..
On Aag:
We all know Sholay cant be remade.. Even the original maker tried it and failed miserably… Even the original Gabbar tried to do Ramgarh Ke Sholey and failed.. Despite knowing the formula of success many people tried and burnt their hands.. The anger of all PFCians is well understood as Sholay lives like a temple in our heart and Ramu has entered there wearing a chappal.. Calm down guys, Please take off “Sholay Ka Chashma” and then see the film.. Anyway it still is a bad film.. But then the anger will also go away… RGV ki Aag has once again proved that SHOLAY can not be remade..
No doubt RGV is having the worst time of his career.. but if we have a temple of “Sholay” in our heart, it has a few blocks for Shiva and Satya too.. and the impressions of Shiva and Satya will stay as long as Sholay stays.. forever in life..
on the lines of “The Shawshank Redemption”.. I hope RGV will comeback one day.. I HOPE…
this one is called
Ram Gopal Varma Ki GAAND
pathetic start,. Bad casting,..Childish Diologues,. Poor and annoying background score,. so many songs,..and very very boaring film:((:((
Ramu bhai go and watch ‘Chak De India’,
I think you are “fluke” like M Night Shyamlan
huge Dissappointment, as i guess allready
and somebody please introduce him to good Background score,..
Hey Steve, thanks…Like I said its just a dream cast us dost log came up with just messin around.. Abhi & Saif would be good together, they showed some chemistry in the brief scenes they’ve done together (Hum Tum, LOC). I think Akshay Khanna and Abhishek would be good together as well…
I think Night in Comment 50 may have something to his theory… it makes sense…
Last night main nashe mein tha… Aag se Aag bujhaane ki koshish kar raha tha… in retrospect, since I was the first to comment on Machchar’s comment regarding the past great films of RGV, we shouldn’t be taking that credit away… Anurag, Suparn and others have called RGV a “school” as far as their personal experiences working with him… so we shouldn’t take that away from the man…
He’s earned his place through his previous works… Shiva, Rangeela, Satya, Companay, Bhoot, Sarkar were all very good films…
I think Darling will suffer just due to the anti-RGV backlash post Aag… it’s unfortunate…
But let’s see how that film turns out… and Sarkar-Raj… maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to work on as many as 4 films in an overlapping period of time…
Mera kuch saman ram gopal varma ke pass pada hai
Parking ke bees rupay rakhe hai
Aur do ticket,do popcorn ke paanchsau rupay pade hai
Apni aag bujha do mera voh saman lota do
Ramu ji… ok lets make a deal mera saman aap hi rakho ,mujhe please voh shiva, voh satya phir se de do
wow….. so much hatred against this one…. accept that this is his worst and he shouldnt have done….
But he gave us shiva, gayam, satya, company, rangeela,money,daud….. thats itself speeks of his talent.
Yes, Varun.
Films right from his heart: Shiva, Gayam, Kshana kshanam, Satya, Company!
If someone discredits him from these films, then I’m sorry, they must be from Ramu’s hatred club!
Sure, “Aag” was crap!
AJ@43, I was referring to a few BRAIN DEAD MINDS!!
[-( 5 Out Of 5 To RGV For The Great Innovation. The Same Janta And Critics That Sang Praise For The The Pathetic Farhan Khan N Shahrukh Khan's Don...The Chase Begins Again Is Tearing Apart RGV's Aag For Obvious Reasons. Ramesh Sippy's Sholay Is A Cult Movie That Did Not Get Any Recognition At The Filmfare Awards In The Year It Was Released. Masses Made It What It Is...And The Janta Will Have To View Aag To See For Themselves...Therefore, Those Who Have Had A Dekkho Already Need To Keep Their Opinions Up Their Rectum (Read: Proverbial)
i saw AAG. HATED THE FILM BUT… i still feel that rgv can bounce back.i wonder why everyone who are venting out their anger out here went to see the film if they believed that rgv is going down hill.i guess shiva was a clear warning to everyone to stay away from an rgv film.most of the comments here are attacking rgv on a personal level than on a professional level.if rgv had to read all of this he would have only word to say. THANKS!
[...] http://passionforcinema.com/rgvs-aag-film-review/ [...]
I would rate this a 4.0!! I certainly hope Ramu was in form when directing SARKAR RAAJ(80% complete).
BTW did anyone see the promo that was supposedly meant to play?
I still feel DARLING will be a better movie than RGV KI AAG!
A.Shah
akshay,
agree with you..even i had mentioned earlier that DARLING will be a good film..the promos are interesting..RGV will bounce back with this flick..but i just feel that AAG has in some way affected the prospects of DARLING..hope though it’s not true..we’ll all know of it on september 7th..wishing for the best!
machchar,
do watch DARLING if you are a hardcore RGV fan..maybe it will finally shut your mouth!!
I definitely hope so ricky. I do want to see what this man gave us years back and I will be the first person to be happy.
All you guys just see my anger but not the reason behind it. I am not so expressive when Dharmesh Dharshans, Sunil Darshans, Sajid Khans make crappy movies cos we all know that they are only capable of crap. For me, I have grown up with Siva (yes, it’s not Shiva, Ramu’s first movie, it’s Siva without an H) Kshana Kshanam, Money etc. His Govinda Govinda was crap but we all did not really bother as one bad movie in between 5 good movies was completely acceptable.
You guys here in the North India/bay area belt have really known him only after Rangeela, but for us, he was there much more earlier.
But now, we get one good movie for every 10 crappy movies. If not for his hardcore fans, who else will get angry?
@suchita brain dead minds?..you mean men with brains elsewhere???..anyways whatever , he sure needs to give us better babes than nisha kothari and what was her name ..shit memory loss ..arrey woh madhuri dixit banna chahti hoon wali..shit whatever her name was…..
we deserve better babes RGV , after that they make you happy o rnot, none of our concern.
3/10 that to forget that u have ever seen original one biggest villains background music and camerawork, music awful
I watched almost all varma’s films(including telugu) , he is definitely cut above the rest.Nagarjuna trusted him and invested his money that’s it ,BTW i’m talking about nearly 15 years back actor Nagarjuna , he doesn’t even know how to deliver his lines properly , he can’t speak a bit louder when required , he would be more concerned about who is the heroine staring opposite him , Ramu doesn’t need any ghost direction and he might have ghost directed films in his production , yes he does make some bad films but that doesn’t mean he is a bad director he is the one who gave to many technicians and actors , i wish him all the best
Jalne se pehle bujh gayi Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag!!! ( Headline on a HIndi news channel) — LOL!!!!!
In year 2032 :
small kids in a film school
Teacher : I will say one line about something which will be related with Hindi cinema and you have to either complete the line or you have to answer the question which is hidden in my saying.
Teacher : Jali ko kya kehte the hindi film wale
Kid 1 : ” AAG ”
Teacher : Bujhi ko kya kehte the
Kid 2 : RAAKH
Teacher : Us Raakh se kya banaya jata tha
Kid 3 : BARUD
Teacher : Us BARUD ko kya kehte the
Kid 4 : VISHVANATH
Teacher : Ok now tell me,
“Jo kabhi na jal saki use kya kehte the”
Whole Class screams : “Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag” :(
instead of AAG- i preferred to see “Awarapan” yesterday and surprised- it was a good movie. it was better than Apne and much much better than “aap ka suroor” released on the same date.
Just see it. u won’t dispapointed.
Rather a good review Tushar, anyways
Babban
Shailesh..I agree with you..Awaarapan..had that something..maybe honesty..that touched me too..actually most of Emraan’s portrayals come across as very honest..of course with a lot of help from the tight Bhatt scripts..I watch Vishesh films products a lot..right from the Kaash days..I like them..I know most of them are copied..but so are a whole lot of others…there is a dignity in all their protagonists..not farcical like some of the better known movies..their songs are good..hummable..the supporting acts are generally above par..OK their heroines let them down many a time..but still I like what they come up with at those piffy budgets! and here we have RGV’s Aag that does not even do .01% justice to the hype and hoopla that surrounded it pre release!!
Vinay, I think you are reading at the surface. I meant the characters are diluted in their eccentricities due to the directors obsession, so as a result you see half willed babban(gabbar) and angerless thakur. and since you termed that Naive, I would like to make it clear I don’t want the actors to actually ‘roar’. It implies he should be the face of evil. was he?
how many expressions you saw on Mohanlal’s(the saving grace - no offense to the great actor)face?
now think of amjad khan and sanjeev kumar…
who depicted the original screenplay?
who brought the saleem-javed written roles to life?
you might wanna read the observations a little more in detail before terming something ‘naive’.
I know one shouldn’t waste more time on Aag but if anyone’s interested, here’s my review in The Telegraph
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1070903/asp/entertainment/story_8263637.asp
Mohan Lal, an obese zombie??? LOL!!! :))
Loved your list, Pratim!!
thanks wb… had loved him so much in iruvar and see what he did to him…
Pratim loved your review/ list on t2. On a funny note, you still seem to have a soft corner for RGV. That’s why you didn’t give ANY rating. :)):)). The list was enough though.
What made you say I have a soft corner for RGV?
Rememeber, I said, “on a funny note!” I was just JOKING. Don’t take it seriously. ‘Soft corner’ here means, your “admiration and respect” for his previous works. Don’t get me wrong. Even I had THAT “soft corner” till Company. That’s it! Just joking!;;)
No offense meant!
No, no I do have that corner you are referring to but wanted to know from you which comment or review or post made it evident?
It was evident from your review per se that what you thought of RGV, the Aag director. Like I said above, YOU DIDN’T RATE THIS MOVIE WITH “NUMBERS” LIKE OTHER MOVIES. YOU DIDN’T GIVE NUMERICAL ZEROS TO IT. That’s why I said that. That didn’t matter, though. The review spoke for itself.;)
Speaking of speaking for itself… I wonder if this one SMS apparently has made Ramu “do some serious re-thinking about his career”, then what would this post and comments on PFC do…
The SMS that shook Ram Gopal Varma
By Subhash K. Jha,
September 5, 2007 - 11:40 IST
Ram Gopal Varma has received innumerable text messages, all ridiculing and berating him for attempting to re-visit Sholay.
“The messages have been pretty vocal and direct about their dislike for what I’ve done. I’ve been called names and treated to the nastiest comments. But I’ve enjoyed the backlash, far more than people enjoyed Aag” laughs Ramu.
Here’s the text that Ramu says changed his opinion on his right to remake his favourite film.
(Parts of the message have been revised for coherence)
“Hi Sir. To call Aag a piece of junk would be demeaning junk. What happened to the colours of Rangeela and the grit of Satya? No clear story, meaningless script, obsession with dark lighting, weak screenplay, and songs that are too high-pitched and outdated. You were in a hurry while shooting. Fast editing, nonsensical expressions, no romance, horrifying background music and choreography, cinematography is horrid, bad clothes, bad hoardings, bad amateurish dialogues, bad characterizations with no emotional graph for the characters
“…anyways whatever , he sure needs to give us better babes than nisha kothari and what was her name ..shit memory loss ..arrey woh madhuri dixit banna chahti hoon wali..shit whatever her name was
@Akshay Shah: while everyone’s geting ‘fired’ up about Aag, maybe Darling will be the dark horse which comes along quietly and takes us by surprise? Well, here’s hoping….!
@Indraneel (comment 63): very funny (and apt) review!
“Instead of remaking the classics it is hight time these self-styled czars had a classic makeover of themselves!” - Krysh
Very well said, Krysh, couldn’t have put it better myself! Let’s hope some of them are listening to these wise words….
Reading through all the comments and reactions here has set me thinking about RGV…have lots to say but v little time…will try to post more extensive thoughts some time later.
PS to comment 100: I also wanna see whether Prashant Raj really does have potential as some keep mentioning…
thanks night for making up for my memory loss…it muts be not be a pleasant memory in the first place ,if u know wat i mean …
iam really sorry to strech this “aag” thing a bit too far….but from today t-series is running a promo on television of “rgv ki aag” with a bold “superhit” bumper on it…..its just in the time when i was just feeling a bit healed…..i dont know how to react..:-)
Yeah, even I saw that promo and was shocked. Hahaha…but in one way, they are right as Aag being super hit. It was hit big time by the audience anger…It crashed, melted, went up in the smoke super big time!
hi tushar,
waitinG for your review on RGV KI DARLING!
Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag (2007)
A SHAMELESS INADVERTENT SPOOF
IN 1975 SIPPY MADE THE MEMMORABLE BLOCKBUSTER SHOLE ,AFTER TURNING KUBRICKS LOLITA INTO A SEX CIRCUS ,RGV AND BACHAN TURN THEIR INFANTILE ATTENTIONS TO THIS GREAT CLASSIC WITH DISASTROUS RESULTS TURNING THE ACTION THRILLER INTO A HILARIOUS COMEDY.THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS VERTIGINOUSLY BAD WITH AWFUL LIGTHING AND ANGLES AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS WORSE WITH SCREECHING VIOLINS AND BANGS GALORE .THE CHOREOGRAPHER STRIPS THE WOMMEN OF THEIR CLOTHES AND CLASS AND THE PICTURISATION OF MEHBOOBA IS A CRASS DESECRATION WHERE BOTH SENIOR AND JUNIOR BACHANS BEHAVE LECEROUSLY LIKE CLOWNS INSTEAD OF GANGSTERS ,THE ORIGONAL MAKERS NEED TO SUE THE CREW FOR DEFAMATIN CHARGES AS EVEN BOLLOYWOOD HAS NEVER ENCOUNTERED A SEWER SO DEEP IN THE PAST .THE DESECRATION OF THE OLD CLASSIC IS COMPLETED WHEN THE FEMALE LEAD BASANTI IS TURNED INTO A CLASSLESS WENCH DEVOID OF ANY DIGNITY OR TALENT.THIS IS THE FINAL NAIL IN MR.BACHANS COFFIN WHO WEARS A BLUE AND A HAZEL EYE LENS INEXPLICABLY AND ALSO LICKS HIS LIPS FROM TIME TO TIME ,MR VARMA AND BIG B NEED TO RETIRE NOW IF THEY WANT TO SAVE ANY CREDIBILITY FROM THEIR PAST ACHIEVEMENTS AS TIS IS A BLOODY MESS BOTH LITERALLY AND VISUALLY .A DISGRACE DESERVING NO STARS .
Well i am a bangladeshi and during da time of Aag’s release i was in mumbai wid my family. My dad and i went to watch da movie together.
Well before i say anything about RGV i must say Ramesh SIppy was out of his mind b4 giving da rites to make a remake.RGV i think enjoys da hobby of making trash or shit out of legends.First he dumped The Godfather and dis time he shitted on most prolly bollywood’s best film ever SHOLAY.I admire his guts to make a remake but wats da point if its complete shit.Amitabh crushed da glory he once earned himself.MAn Amitabh mite be Shahenshah but dat does not mean hiz betr den evry1.He was nowhere near Gabbar.I mean Gabbar’s personality reflected fear he and his son were more like pimps den gangsters.Ajay Devgan is bullshit da charm Dharam Saab showed is found nowhere in him.Prashant mite be of da same hight as Amitabhs but his talent and ability does not reach Amitabh’s toe.Nisha Kothari one thing i wud tell her is that if i meet u i’ll buy u a lighter and ur just a showpiece not an actress.
Overall da film sucked and i wud advice its a waste of money and time 2 go and watch this film!!!
Thanks, GBHG. btw, whats bong of destiny?
Ram gopal Verma Pagal ho gaya hai. abhi Ramu bhaisahab ko retire hone ka time ho gaya hai. He waste the time of grat actors like Mohanlal and Bachan. Please Ramuji aage se is tarah ka products nahi banana hai. Ramu sahab sochte hai ladkiyon ko bina kapade ka ek do gane, sath main Mohanlal, Bachan sahab jaise great actors, bus ek great picture ban gaya hai. sorry ramu sahab ye koyi tarika nahi hai. Is tarah chaloge to aap ka factori main tala lag jayega.
