Right or wrong ?

The veteran lyricist Shailendra writes in a song “humne har jeene waale ko dhan daulat pe marte dekha”(sab kuch seekha humne na seekhi hoshiyaari). The line has a message and has a connection with the whole idea of “jaagte raho”. The writing department of “Jagte raho” comprises of Shambhu Mitra, K.A Abbas and Shailendra. These were the people mainly associated with “IPTA” and more than an artist they used to be activists. So we can say that “Jagte Raho” might have been inspired by the Italian New realism movement. “Jaagte raho” was released nine years after the independence. The era was full of freedom and the industries are on the hands of prosperous people. These people wanted to control the market and the stream of black money started to flow. “Jagte Raho” is a reflection of the Indian society of that era. But simultaneously the first decade after independence is considered as an era in which no candidate with any criminal background could fight the elections. Of course this was made sure for free and fair elections but it was also to construct a moral society. The newly formed government tried their best to make an ethical society but after this decade there were the ministers started to suspend the bureaucrats who denied to do the job of ministers…as a result the officers started to compromise and the moral values degraded. It also affected our cinema and we can see there is a long gap after “Jaagte raho”. “Teesri Kasam” released on 1966 and therefore also not very old film after independence and the film starts with a song “sajan re jhooth mat bolo” which was an appeal to don’t sell your morality. The later films like “Saccha Jhootha” and “satyakaam’ were a struggle to keep the truth above all. The scene in “Deewar” where Shashi kapoor chases a boy and ultimately shot him, surprised to see a roti in his hands. The father of the boy A.K Hangal asks him that why don’t they arrest the bigiies who are making lakhs..(now multicrores)…This whole track strengthens kapoor’s determination. Each and every scene of deewar is a confrontation against good and evil..right or wrong that makes it a great film and had a great impact in our society. This scene teaches a lesson to an inspector. In “Saraansh” the character of Anupam Kher says in a much discussed scene of that “ ghalti humaari hi hai..humi apne bachho ke bheetar wo values na daal sake”…. Shailendra once again writes a song “dil ka haal sune dilwaala”.(with due respect to Pavan bhai’s callertune )
“budhe daroga na chasme se dekha
aage se dekha peeche se dekha
upar se dekha neeche se dekha..
bola ye kya kar baithe ghotaala..
ye to hai thaanedaar ka saala…
the next paragraph goes like..
sun lo magar ye kisi se na kehna
tinke ka leke sahaara na behna
bin mausam malhaar na gaana.
aadhi raat ko mat chillana
varna pakad lega police waala..
Shailendra has tried to say many things in a song that to in a satirical tone.
Mrinal Sen’s “Bhuvan Shome” was awarded president’s gold medal due to statement he made through the film. Jadhav patel is a corrupt railway official and has been warned by his Boss Som Babu(Utpall Dutt). But as the movie proceeds we see patel’s wife (young Suhasini mule) wins Som Babu’s heart. Consequently Som babu cancels patel’s report and transfers him in a big Junction. The statement comes through the end of the film when Patel sends a letter to his wife in which he writes “he has survived his job and now transferred in a big Junction. Bade junction ka matlab samjhti ho…! badi kamaai..” In Ray’s aranyer Din ratri..one of the guys says that “thanks for the corruption.”as he gives money to the caretaker. Hirani has also handled the issue brilliantly in a scene of “Lage Raho Munnabhai” The Moral values in cinema has discussed very rarely. In this context, I think “Apharan” is a bold film. The Scene in which Devgan goes to the employment office and asks to return his money, the whole office gathers around him. The gentleman who was the In charge of recruitment in police division says a line that “apne baap se kaho ganddhi na bane..bahut disturbance ho jaata hai” Prakash Jha has made a significant point that corruption has become so stronger in the system that a man like mohan agase could not make a difference. The Mohan Agase has no relevance today as Devgan confronts him when Agashe says “ Ummeed hai bharstachaar ke khilaf apne pita ke jeevan bhar ke sangharsh ko bhi tum kuch mahatva doge.” Devgan reacts “ dete to aaye hi hai babuji. Aapke is ek sach se kisi ka bhala nahi hoga.dinkar pande apni jageh bane rahenge lekin humaari jindagi barbaad ho jaayegi” and it happened.

Sorry can’t resist a bit of an unrelated dig

Isn’t Mohan Agashe the same dude who forced FTII students to go on strike when he tried to enforce asinine edicts like cutting down the number of film screenings and putting students in a position to sabotage and compete against each other so that they could come back after their freshman year ?

Talk about casting against type. :d
