delightful interview
.
one thing — anurag kashyap revealed a major plot point for burn after reading. i hadn’t seen that movie and i’m pissed.
.
dibakar reveals the ending of dev d. i hadn’t seen that movie and i’m pissed.
.
please mention spoiler warnings to warn other people. still, the chat was great.
That was quite an interesting debate. I actually understood the definition of Indie in India. Also what Dibakar said was interesting, Indie films require the actor to speak, think like the Indie filmmakers and also emote the way they want them to. Which is why you see Abhay being the Superstar Indie man. Dibakar’s next movie sounds quite interesting. Anurag, I have couple of questions. Are you taking Dev.d to festivals? It deserves to be man. No smoking made me think you’re the India’s Lynch/Bunuel. Dev.d made me think you’re the India’s Kar Wai/Tarantino. So you release Dev.d, then Gulal,an older film of yours which was in making for a long time, after all this you release your debut movie. Wow this is a non-linear narration of your life. I can safely call you a phoenix now:-) I cant tell you how happy I am for you. The success of Dev.d is inspiring me to give up my humdrum corporate asshole life, buy a handheld and start filming whatever comes my way.
Awesome year ahead…DevD…gulaal and Paanch 2 b released in same year….
is this a dream???????????
These guys make Indian cinema exciting. It had to happen, there had to be a change, things had to be shaken up. Maybe it’s the reception that Slumdog Millionaire is getting, coupled with the emergence of Navdeep, Dipankar and Anurag, the slow emerging brilliance of Abhay Deol, but it feels like a renaissance could be on the horizon. India needs new narrators, original and vivid and brilliant cinema. And these guys have the potential to usher in a new Indian cinema that not only chronicles vibrantly and uniquely India at this amazing moment in time, but that can take its place in world cinema with new authority.
Anybody find it hilarious that they used pirated copies to show the OLLO and LBC scenes? Atleast OLLO orig. dvd has been out for a while now!
wow. I second Neeraj’s thoughts. cool. I feel happy the way Indian cinema is shaping up. thanks to these film makers.
Time Out Mumbai has done a big cover story on this topic. See http://www.timeoutmumbai.net/client_coverstory/client_coverstory_summay.asp?coverstoyrcode=88
V I, exactly!
It is a grab from a pirated copy!
I compared it with the one I have(sorry! I got no other choice), it is IT!
If it’s truly so… then our media and the system is so convoluted!
Wow, Paanch is releasing finally. Congrats Anurag.
This news should replace the banner imo.. ;-)
Never thought that 3 AK films will get a release in 3 consecutive months… Amazing… Did he just shatter any record ?…
Do be do be do…
Great interview. Wish Navdeep had more to say. The host didn’t involve him much, should’ve asked others to comment on his Manorama.
Man the first time I read this blog (late 06-07 I think) Anurag came across as the perpetual depressive. I thought he would go the Guru Dutt way… don’t blame him. His movies appeared to be limited to obscure festivals.
Nice to see him get his due recognition… and a chance to get his movies out to the public. Way to go Mr Kashyap!
And Dibakar – tu kya cheez hain yaar!! KKG and OLLO are movies I would carry to a desert island! Looking forward to your future work dude.. cheers!
