Ranbir, the valuable zero
When the movie began I was gripped by its fine characters. I thought, finally I got to see some really amazing characters, finely crafted by the writer after a real long time. The porn addict colleague- Girish Reddy with a tacky hyderabady accent , The wicked, mean, smart-ass manager- Nitin, The almost sexy-slap-stick receptionist- Koena, the clerk- Mr. Chotelal Mishraji, The Villan Boss- Mr. Puri and sadda ‘Bhola-Bhaala’ – Harprit Singh Bedi urf Rocket singh.
They all worked like crackling pakodas and sparkling wine in most part of the movie. I was enjoying and yearning every moment to see more of each of these characters. And then when I was about to feel contended, suddenly..! the unexpected happened. All of a sudden the characters seized to be interesting. Back in my head, a requiem had began as I saw the writer killing (not literally though) the characters one by one.
Mr. Nitin was no longer wicked, Koena was no longer slap-stick, Reddy saar bhi chuppich decent huyen dekho!
Of course one might argue that the situations led them to get so subtle and sighing in the end. But, my disappointment lies in the ending of the film. They were sitting like a bunch of nice kiddos which, frankly, none of them were. Perhaps a party, a few ending scenes for each of the characters, portraying how they are dealing with the new plateaus of goodness. A little wickedness and wittiness would have finished the movie on a different and better note all together, would have added a great flavor to the movie.
The writer succeeded in building up fine characters and ended up killing the very essence that built them.
This assassination of characters is perhaps even more disappointing than the actual bloody assassinations that take place in a QT movie.
p.s – I liked the movie though.

cmon man… u didn’t made the movie. it was jaideep’s story and shimit’s vision. your post sounds more like what you wanted to see rather than reviewing what you have seen. in fact more or less all the reviews that i have read about rocket singh are on the similar lines. people are writing about what they wanted to see in the movie instead of writing about what was shown(one of the reviewer commented that boss scene in the end could have been more impactful….like what boss on his knees and conceding defeat). what do you a need flavor for this movie. it is what it is…stop whinning
As far as character assassination is concerned how can you expect characters to behave in the same way as before when they are running a fraud show kind of thing inside there own company.
the phrase like ‘Character Assassination of the year’ is too harsh for such an honest movies.

dude… sahi hain boss… i agree… but the point is, I’m not condemning the movie. I liked the movie and njoyed the movie as much as u did may be…I’m not questioning the honesty of the makers also. I’m just trying to tell that we rarely get to see memorable and capturing characters now a days in our movies and the writer very successfully crafted very good characters, characters with great oomph. But then end mein they were stripped off from that very essence that formed them.
I’m not saying Nitin should have gone cheating again. But then I’m just saying it would have been interesting to see what the same persona would have done in new limitations/possibilities of goodness and honesty.

Doode..I totally agree with you on the character assassination. Movie was highly cool and original, till the very moment our cocky manager (Nitin) transformed to the most obedient kid in the movie. from there on , it ws real character killing….sad.

Thanx dude…

I loved the movie. But will have to agree with ur point that says a party or something at the end, even if ten seconds for every character would have made the characters stronger.

for a moment i thought i got my vocabulary wrong, but NO. alas! the author does not know the true meaning of the phrase ‘character assassination’.
[a]character assassination
a vicious personal verbal attack, especially one intended to destroy or damage a public figure’s reputation.
[b]character assassination
the act of deliberately attempting to destroy a person’s reputation by defamatory remarks
so, i dont see any such thing happening in the movie
.
anyways, characters mature as the movie progresses. if akash were to remain the same in DCH, he would never have found and loved preity; if SRK and amrish puri would not have changed then DDLJ would not have been what it is. follow the movie progression and u will find the characters changing for better.
.
and plz be careful with the subject line. changing a character’s behavior pattern or mellowing it down or killing it, is not called ‘character assassination’. be careful with such tricky phrases

Bhai jaan, No u did not get ur vocabulary wrong and I am very well aware of the literal meaning of the phrase ‘character assassination’ as well. In here the phrase is rather used in a metaphorical manner. to say, instead of putting it as ‘assassination of the essence of the characters’ I preferred to shorten it down.
and rahi baat maturing of the characters. Of course I agree to it, but my whole point is that one could still trace the characters that made akash and sid and sameer even when they were matured. and that was found missing in this movie.
