Running On Karma
movie opens in a strip show. and lau (big) is one of the stripper. cecilia cheung (lee fung yee) is the one of the viewer chearing for big. as big pulls the last piece of cloth from his body lee fung yee pulls out his police inspector id. she was here on the tip of a strip show. big manage to escape on his birth suit. lee fung yee runs after him. on some other location CID is investigating a murder. there on the murder scene they look in a tin. in that tin is the culprit hiding. guns pointed at him culprit emerges from that tin first his head then his hand and then rest of the body. this mysterious culprit manages to run away. CID men run after him.
big is running away tailed by lee fung. murderer is running tailed by CID men. they collide. in this scene we come to know that big was once a monk and he could see the karma. big is arrested but the murderer manages to escape successfully. we also learn inspector lee fung yee was a world war 2 japanese soldier and she killed many a number of man. big is brought in the police station where lee fung yee sees his file. he is 35 and he was earning is living in many weird ways for last five years. but before that till the age of 30 he was a martial art monk it grotto temple.
five years ago when big was a monk a murderer killed his good friend and escaped to the jungle. big went after him in jungle. but can not find the murderer. he vent out his frustration on the tree foliage and kills a sparrow. realizing that he had killed a bird big sat for the meditation before the bird. after 7 days of meditation big can see the karma. there he drops the robe of monk and stops being a monk.
CID has lost some men so lee fung is included in there squad. big helps her out on two occasion in capturing the culprit including mysterious murderer. his condition is that he will help her but after that she has to act like she does not know him. there is a comical scene of the big riding the bike.
big is paid a visit his old master from the temple. they talk about the atonement of the karma of lee fung yee. many events follow one after another. big is again in the same jungle looking for the murderer he could not find once. there a very complex and great scene takes place. where big get engaged in the fight with himself. the other big is his buddha nature. this scene alone is a masterpiece in a masterpiece.
this is not an easy film. but it is not very complex either. you can get the idea easily. but that is not all there is. probably this movie has given me more food for thought than any other movie i had seen. this movie has layers upon layers and will kept you engaged. given that you want to. a very satisfying experience. in a movie filled with great scenes, my favorite scene is the last scene. last scene reminded me of a Geroge Gurdjieff video i saw at you tube. and the tenth card of the ‘ten bulls of zen’ .

@Vishrant,
Do you watch these films in dubbed english version or with english subtitles?
articles like this give me hope that i might still be competent enough to post on pfc
subtitles
vishrant, if only your articles were as good as your comments
if we want to know the synopsis of a film we can easily Google it, where are your thoughts on the film? except the last paragraph the whole article is basically an extended summary of the film. next time try to tell us more of your thoughts on the film rather than just narrating the story
