  2. Nice! He’s back. His films used to fill my Sundays with Joy over mom cooked exquisite lunch. I guess for our generation his films got more popular in the Dumb Charades  The trailer is impressive, finely cut. One question tho, sorry though: The word “tho” is more of a marwari/jaipuri dialect right but the VO, assuming it’s the protagonist’s, is more Bihari/UP. If the title is more from his perspective, isn’t the “tho” meaning “was” , a little inappropriate? Or am I completely wrong? Please to educate.

Neeraj, “tho” is the country-side slang (Bihar, Bengal) for “just” or “bit of”

Grrrr oz since when a local dialect has become slang?
        .
We use ‘tho’ or ‘thu’ while speaking Awadhi too but as far as I know, it’s Hindi counterpart doesn’t exist. It is used after numbers in counting e.g. Ek thu, dui thu.

darn… sorry my bad. But good you got it right and corrected me there! Dialect dialect dialect :) Unlike the comments I received slamming me for checking “Cult”. I’m glad there are many on PFC who despise this chalta hain attitude.

          Ashwini, Yes! Thanks

Arre sirjee, I was just in bad mood after India’s defeat. :)
            .
Anyway on a side note, I’ve used the word tho countless times but didn’t know that it means just or bit. Thanks for it but, I am not sure.
E.g. 2 people talking about number of mangoes in a basket.
Ques. Kai THO haeen? (Kitne hain?/How many are there?)
            Ans. Dui THO (Do/Two)
‘Just’ or ‘bit’ fits in Ans. as ‘only’ or ‘kewal’ but it doesn’t fit in question. It is in Awadhi though but same word may carry different meaning in different dialects.
Well, bahut paka diya aaj..

yeah, heard about the defeat, there’s gloom set in PFC club over that! hardly watch cricket anymore… stopped following it after the last ball sixer of Miandad in the eighties. Aisan jhatka laagwa (Hinglish: like shock hit), never could get myself to seriously follow the game anymore.

Heh! I too have stopped watching and really dont care about win-loss anymore. I was watching cricket yesterday after more than a year because of Sachin’s knock and hence the defeat affected me more.

The theme seems to be “Crash” inspired multiple narratives finally converging around a single life shattering event that seems to be recent favorite of many movie makers ( Mumbai Meri Jaan (spectacular!), YMI (pretty good though a bit preachy) etc) but the trailer has impressed me nonetheless. I’m sure the Master still has his sensibilities in the right place. Looking forward to watching this!

  5. Amrita Arora leading the cast in a Sudhir Mishra movie- never expected this. But I’m sure its got to do with the characterisation. The rest of the casting is certainly interesting. Will await this one for sure.

  7. I found some familiar faces from “Nukkad” days. I am very skeptical about comebacks especially in direction department. Can anyone think of a single instance where a director took a sabbatical for 10years or more to comeback and make a decent movie? Trailer does show multiple tracks..Amrita Arora track has shades of Rangeela. There is a crooked politician/police track and a separate track of two boys (look like muslims??) and all these tracks will sure culminate in a big “blast” :-)

Looks like there are more than one protagonist. Oz’ right. The trailer keeps us wanting for more. And whatever the fate of the movies, box office wise, Aziz’ movies are never boring. His previous movies had his fixation of a lower middle class hamlets or groups. This one looks way too different a genre. Something similar to Mithya. Maybe thats why Rajat got involved.

  10. PS PS says:

is the moustache guy with the boy Zafar Karachiwala??? Where has he been all this while??? I was always fan of his… not a tremendous finesse actor in terms of technical acting, but him, along with Anup Soni and Romanchak were my favorites in TV artistes, who acted as any composed person would react in real life… where are these guys? if it is Zafar Karachiwala, then wow, m looking forward to be seeing him after a long time… and the movie also shows a list of TV actors, the ones who were in the SRK group when he was in the list of alternate actors (TV in itself was an alternate medium of entertainment to cinema)…. for all who cannot recollect Zafar Karachiwala hope this helps, he played I guess Rafeeq in the TV serial “hip hip hurray” … the lone character who acts real sensible in that entire group of fun loving school students…

the whole idea of “self patronizing” in the trailer itself turns me off. “saeed mirza, the master returns”. james cameroon never said that after terminator, true lies and titanic and when he returned with Avtaar. nor did terentino ever indulged in such blatant self promotion. Moreover, the feel of this movie already seems too much hackneyed, stories of underdogs struggling in Mumbai. please mr. mirza your last film came 15 years ago and i am sure the benchmarks for being a master has changed since then. hope you come out of this self indulgence and self praise and remove “the master returns ” from the trailer, because even if this is a masterpiece, let it speak for itself.
