@Neeraj: Whistling Woods International Film Institute in Film City
@Vinay: Yes, initially they were only taking 10 participants because each person gets one-on-one time in developing their script so if they were to take let’s say 50 participants then not each participant would get as much attention/personal help in developing their script.
@Maximus: Their competition is on hold as of now.
@All: I’ll ask Kamlesh to drop by here and answer any questions you may still have.

    • The next batch of ScriptWalla screenwriting workshop is sheduled to start from Oct.17th and will continue for 8 weeks, every Saturday and Sunday 11am to 1pm at Whistling Woods International Film Institute,Film City, Gorehaon, Mumbai. The class strength will not exceed 12 students. Participants need to confirm their participation before Sept.25th. There is no booking fee, participants pay by cheque on the first day they come to the class. The fee is Rs.30,000/- for the full 8-week workshop. The participants are expected to come with at least 3-5 ideas they would like to develop into a 120-page screenplay. We help them select the idea, and then step-by-gruelling step, shape it into a proper story, the story into stepoutline, the three acts, screne construction, dialogue, and finally a 120-page screenplay which they can show around as their work sample or can even sell. We also cover the art of adaptation, writing routine, the business of writing, protecting your writing, etc. The workshop is divided into lecture and assignments. The lectures are ofetn accompanied by clips from films. Questions are welcomed and answered. The environment is informal, stimulating. The workshop is intensive, exhasutive and interactive where each screenplay gets the attention of the teacher as well as constructive feedback from other participants. The teacher as well as the students help each other to get the best out of each other. So every screenplay gets the benefit of feedback from the teacher and 12 other writers at every stage of development. ScriptWalla is striving to revive the lost art of storytelling in an era when most film makers hide their lack of storytelling behind eye-popping technique and inane song and dance that may dazzle us for a while but ultimately leave us cold and empty. We believe that the screenwriter is the first star of a film because before him/her, a film is just a piece of blank piece of paper. And we agree with Aristotle, the father of the 3-act structure, that when the story goes bad in a society, the result is decadence.

  7. hansal mehta hansal mehta says:

I have attended the workshop and can say this much – It was very, very stimulating and a great experience. I felt empowered, enriched and confident after the workshop. It woke me up from a self-enforced sabbatical and stirred me into action. A story that I have been grappling with in the past two years has suddenly turned into a powerful script. Kamlesh and Ben are fantastic mentors and I feel truly privileged that I was part of this workshop. All those aspiring writers – this one is surely for you. All those like me – this one is DEFINITELY for you. We stop growing after one point in our lives and this kind of experience can make you feel really alive and invigorated. The sessions were enlightening and very motivational. Kamlesh in particular is one hell of a passionate guy. He shares his art and craft with such zeal that one cannot help but feel the positive energy. 30,000 is truly a very small price to pay for something as great as this. I travelled nearly 12 hours every week to make it for the workshop and I can say with pride that I missed only 2 sessions out of 12. I did my homework and felt very rewarded for managing to complete the assigned tasks. Anybody with questions you can post them to me on this blog. I will be happy to answer!
