SEL n SEI and same old formulas

Was waiting for the music of Salaam-E-Ishq. Finally managed to get a free copy from a friend few days back. But was disappointed. Music is average except two tracks…Adnan Sami track and the Kailash Kher track…the first and the last one in the album. May be m bit biased towards Kailash’ voice but the song ya rabba pyar hai…has that sufiana touch to it. Adnan Sami after long time…..sounding fresh n mischievous in the dil kya kare song.

Its more disappointing because nothing new has been tried by the trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL). No new sound and no new tunes…..the title track sounds good only till the bagpiper sound…after that there is nothing good about it.Sameer’s lyrics are as usual…..dil,pyar,mohabbat…dil dil mera, mera dil….pyaar hai kya…as creative as always…Cant Sameer take a break for sometime. Now even Himesh has gone for sabbatrical. Sameer also should n must go to rejuvenate himself and coem back with some new words. We have already gone crazy sir….with your crazy kiya re!!

Its the same trio of SEL who came with damn good and new sounds in Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya and made their big marks in Bollywood. But now they are just following the formula. Bollywood corrupted them ?

Kal Ho Na Ho’s (KHNK) music was damn good for a conventional bollywood film and it clicked big away too. But it seems Karan Johar asked them to follow the same formula for KANK. So, one club number type…that will be hit in the clubs, one romatic one…that everyone will hummm, one “m in love la la la”……for every song of KHNH there is a similar one in KANK. And thats why I hated KANK”s music more expect for the singer Shafqat’s voice in Mitwa.

Now, its seems Nikhil Advqani again asked SEL to follow the formula…..ek track partywala, ek track pyaar mohabbatwalaa, ek item number type and then there is the golden oldie “babuji dheere chalna”. why ?? For God’s sake…..cant we have some new sounds….even in the popular format.

Or is SEL running out of tunes ? why blame Nikhil and Karan only ? Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy….remember….hum hai naye phir andaaz kyun ho purana ???

Like you I only prefer Adnan’s track and Kailash Kher’s track. Anyway, Govinda paired with Shannon Esrechowitz… now that has to be a winner! Govinda trying to communicate with her in English…

    Righto!

I guess, law of averages is at work. The SEL trio delivered another utterly uninspiring “Don” this year.

Phoneix .. actually the blame lies more with the directors who are using SEL ineffectively than SEL themselves. Yes Salaam-E-ishq does give u a sense of Deja vu… reminds u of KANK, Kal ho Na Ho ..

Don’s music too sucked big time …

SEL are really talented and are probably my favorites after fellow tamilian Rahman … but I am not too happy with the way they are being utilised by their directors…

good review. i would call these songs popcorn fun. they unapologetically lack depth. and frankly i dont mind it. mera dil, dil kya kare, n rabba are growing on me slowly. dunno the reason.

i expected much more of SEI though…
    btw, i loved DON score.

the sonly saving grace from this sound track is the Kailash Kher number “Ya Rabba”..and to an extent Adnan’s version of the tiltle track…Ya Rabba in particular showcases SEL’s real talent……they should stop workin with these Karan Johar type directors if they really wanna grow…as with a yash raj banner , the brief is 1 disco , 1 romantic ballad..etc just the usual stuff………SEL get back to what you guys are known for..i.e. quality music!!
