Sholay News bulletin
Sometime back in one of the interviews Ram Gopal Verma said that he wanted to run a film magazine/trade guide. I feel, now its the right time for him to do so. If you have been following all those news about RamGopal Verma ke Sholay then you must have realised how every 15 days there is some bit of info about the film. First the casting news, then new Gabbar’s new look, the new Basanti and her autorickshaw, Mohit Ahlawat being kicked out of the film, the new Jai and the recent one is Jai and Veeru’s new look. And am sure more will follow soon….just keep on counting 15 days.
Also, because the curiousity factor for this Sholay is much bigger, the producers are making sure that everything slowly passes on to the audience. New stills of the film are being released every 15 days. The strategy, that is exactly opposite to that of Yashraj Films. Yashraj never gives out any stills when the film is on floor. They dont even confirm news about the cast and the crew. Forget the story, shooting schedules and other details. They know, their Big “Yashraj” Brand will still get the audience to the theatres anyway. So, which strategy works better ? Putting out the news bit by bit or not leaking out anything at all.
And then there are many like Bhatts and Madhur Bhandarkar who dont believe in hiding anything. They will give out the stories, the cast, shooting details and everything possible. N I love it that way!!!
Since everyone knows the basic story of Sholay, so Ramu’s sholay news is about everything else….who n how? I guess, he also knows that the over-expectations and criticism will be part of the film anyway. He cant escape that at any cost. So, is it better to let the audience have some idea about the film beforehand, than to go directly to the theatre expecting something mindblowing ? Today’s mid-day has more details…one more interview about the film……http://www.mid-day.com/hitlist/2006/december/148959.htm
But now I am bit tired of reading and hearing all these Sholay news. Its irritating because its planned out startegy. Two small bits of info are passed and you keep on asking for more. Wait for 15 more days. And with two more new stills, the news channels will do few more “Sholay” news bulletins repeating the same stills again and again. I just want to watch the film now…..no more stills anymore!!!
Anyway, he has been threating to do this remake since last two years, just hope that will get to see the film very soon…..and no more news about the film.

Regardless of whether one hates or loves the idea of remaking Sholay, Ramgopal Varma has always known that by employing that brand, the film will pick up an astounding opening. I personally hate the idea of remaking Sholay, and on a creative level, I do feel that if Varma had an urge to present the story in a new way, he should have done it without calling it a Sholay remake. But it’s pure business, and Ramu sure has learnt how to sell his film even before he’s made it. He will continue to tease the audience with tid bits about the film until the very day of its release. That’s how you get people talking and get the film hyped up. In the economics of filmmaking today, the opening often seems to secure the fate of a film, and all Ramu is doing, is ensuring the same. When you offer up a novelty like Bachchan playing Gabbar, even the worst of cynics cannot resist.
rgv’s ‘foreplay’ with his sholay will continue for some more time now…guess we’ll get to see his ‘baby’ when it’ll be ‘due” for release sometime in july 2007…everyone, including his “favourite” critic will go and watch it atleast once…we all know how much bussiness the film will make…it’s gonna be one of rgv’s biggest hit after sarkar…no doubt about that…but as a maverick filmmaker, will he be able to do justice to all the hype created during it’s making? will he live up to the expectations of the film going audience/his “well wishers”/critics?…well…only time will tell…we all at PFC will be discussing “RGV KE SHOLAY” when it finally releases…and i’m sure it’s gonna be one hell of a discussion!!
forget about ‘RGV ka Sholay’ for a moment cos it will be ‘Nishabd’ to release first! however, we have not heard much about the latter movie… he has under-hyped the movie, in this case.
‘RGV Ka Sholay’ is being hyped a lot cos, I believe, he wanted to make biggest (most successful) hindi film ever! Hence remaking Sholay..and hyping it big time.
Where as he is under-hyping ‘Nishabd’ and it will be a winner!
‘Nishabd’ has created alot of curiosity though hasnt it?
It seems to be quite a controversial film… Its meant to be ready, god knows when they’ll release it!
Nah, it is not a controversial film, but it could cause a controversial stir. Hence, i think, he has under-hyped ‘Nishabd’
Last heard.. was that it is under dubbing process and Big B is recording a song for the film, to be used as promotion gimmick.
HG, yup.. that and patchwork remaining on nishabd, is what i heard last. and i’m an unabashed sucker when it comes to ramu’s films, so i’ll watch this first day first show just like any other ramu movie. from what i’ve been told, nishabd looks very promising.. the rushes seem to have jia khan matching big B every step of the way.. no easy task for any newcomer. i always root for every fresher ramu brings in, so here’s hoping mohit’s replacement does justice to jai
