Singh Is Kinng!
It is one of the most awaited film of the year, apparently. The film is directed by Anees Bazmee who has given successful hits like ‘No Entry’ and ‘Welcome’. Yes, both films were shite, but they were hits! You cannot beat that. The film stars Akshay Kumar – he is the king of entertainment. And he has been giving successfully films last so many years. And there is Katrina Kaif! Sighs! Hence there is a lot of hype/buzz around the film. Or I have been watching only one music channel. Anyway, I am looking forward to this movie. I reckon it could be a decent film, in some parts.
I saw ‘Welcome’ last year on Christmas day. It is one of the most illogical and ridiculous film I have ever seen. A cartoon would have far more logic than the film had. ‘Welcome’ is a bad non-animated cartoon – that you would not want to watch it. However, it made money. Hence Aneez Bazmee has made another comedy/cartoon film – ‘Singh is Kinng’. In Welcome, there were a couple of good funny scenes between Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor, though. So he has a knack of producing hilarious scenes but can he make a film with 90% of quality scenes?
‘Singh Is Kinng’ seems like a loud comedy movie. So there will be a lot of innuendo jokes. Perhaps stereotype jokes as well. It seems the film is a fusion between: (Namastey London + Jo Bo le So Nihal)*Welcome. A Pindoo goes to a Phoren Land to bring another Pindoo back to the Pind, but he falls in love with a Kuri – but she has a boyfriend. And by accident he becomes an underworld King. Thrown in a few songs shot in Egypt and in some Mumbai studios. The story has a potential to be a complete masala entertainer!
Everyone from Mummyjis to kids to kuris to people who loved Dosit loves Akshay Kumar. He has more fans than Shah Rukh Khan has, apparently. That would be a bit stretch, I suppose, but he has more NRI fans. And he is playing a Sardar in this film. So the film is already a hit in UK. It seems he can do nothing wrong at the moment. His role in this fillum seems to be opposite of his role in ‘Welcome’. He is finally playing a role of a Mard after playing Taattoo sort of roles. So the film has a star, to sell the film.
Then there is Katrina Kaif. What can I say about her! I just want to watch this film cos of her. I know everything about this film will be shite. But Katrina Kaif will be looking gorgeous in that Black Sari and Pink skirt. She won’t have much to say in the film. She is just there to look gorgeous and dance. I won’t complain. From the current batch of actresses, she is the most successful actress! Her all films have been hit! She was part of the film – she didn’t act – it doesn’t matter – she looked good – danced good – that’s all matters for her and her fans! The film should have been titled as ‘Kaur Is Prinncess!
Anyway, the film will be a sooper dooper hit, in India and PhorenLand! Many of you pfc readers would vomit at that thought! But, the film has a hit formula! No matter how bad it is! A hit formula is a hit formula!

@HG – Cartoons/animations are probably one of the most intelligent form of entertainment. Although often times it suspends logic, it is still near-perfect in the context of the movie. Please do not debase them by comparison with Anees Bazmee movies, or for most of the movies for that matter.

LOL – can you call what Katrina does dancing? That’s an insult to dancers everywhere. She must be the most useless star (not actress) in BW – can’t act, can’t dance and can’t speak Hindi but she smile frozenly.
I liked ‘No Entry’. I thought Anil Kapoor was hilarious in that especially everytime he said ‘Be Positive yaar!!’
Has her Hindi improved ?……..one of the trailors had her cursing in English and the accent is still phoren…
It really shows the sad state of our industry.I think Akshay should instead concentrate on doing some good films.He has already done a lot of mindless comedies and is constantly repeating himself.And Katrina?The “most successful” actress should do a course in acting and hindi speaking urgently.
the so called macho image and acting of Akshay Kumar, his facial expressions especially, get on my nerves man….

She can dance, that is, Bollywood Dance. Now how am I insulting people who can do Bollywood Dance? Can you tell me? Did I compare her with any classical dancers? No.
I would never insult cartoon or animations. I always have put them above all Bollywood movies.
She is not a useless star. She makes money for the producers. Whether she can act or dance – it doesn’t matter. She has been part of successful films. Hence she is getting many projects. She is a lucky charm for many people.

ya Goonda I have heard about Nagesh’s film starring Akshay and Ayesha Takia.Even I think Chandni Chowk To China will also be something worthwile(though I am scared of Nikhil Advani after Salaam e ishq).I think Akshay should do different kinds of films.Otherwise after a point the films will be rejected.

Am surprised to find a write-up on ‘SiK’. I have seen some scenes of the Welcome as one of my friends wanted to watch a film “leaving the brains out”…Just for tp sake. But this film was just unbearable.
I guess SiK will be in the same category but at the end of the day for some people such films are kind of “paisa vasool” – the purpose is to go and watch without thinking too much. Some of my friends njoy such stuff. So its natural and imperative for such films to have a very pretty faced female lead. Going by the moves KK did in Race (another terr film) she is quite a dancer for today’s Bollywood masala films. So KK fits the bill perfectly. Who cares if she doesnt speak Hindi at all. Directors just try to cover this up by choosing the approp camera angles – very rare that her face is shown on close up while mouthing lengthy Hindi dialogues…
And as Akshay Kumar says – shes the only actress to have delivered 6 hits in a row..That says it all I guess…

I really hope and expect this film to flop. First of all, although Akshay Kumar’s movies are hit, the trend is falling and budget is rising. He is great, no doubt.But not his movies.
yucks….katrina kaif…she is the most useless one. cant talk, cant act, no clue about hindi, braindead, she is just lucky. lucky to be born pretty and hav a boyfreind like salman khan. she is in the indutsry only cz of these two factors. the day katrina’s presence can decide the fate of any film, thats the end of the world. m praying and praying hard that this one bombs. but then some films are critics-proof, prayer-proof and god-knows-what-proof! but if tashan can bomb, some hope is there.

im not against masaala movies,dont get me wrong, but whats wrong with having a decent script??? i feel its a slap on my intellect when i see such films and i am even more disgusted when people actually praise such pathetic efforts(star or no star)….its people like Mr. Honhaar Goonda that have enabled directors like Anees Bazmee to make a living out of

guys chill out … it’s just a movie. you dont have to watch it. you dont even have to read the article (the title tells you what it’s about). and most certainly, you dont have to like the film or agree to a viewpoint.
movie, AK, KK, Bazmee etc … they work for some – dont work for others. why so much angst? we aren’t on a crusade against the commercial and un-intelligible cinema – are we!!

I, for one, am looking forward to this film and will be there opening night.
It has been a long time since a good masala film has released, and this one looks like it may be good (although I have heard that it is slow and nothing special).
I love Katrina Kaif. She is one of the most beautiful stars in the world. She is luminous onscreen. Who cares if all she is asked to do is play a muse to some hero, she does it well. If you would like to see good acting, rent something with Konkona Sen Sharma or another serious actress. When I think of her I think of Andie MacDowell, another “actress” with little talent but the ability to keep you focused on the screen and interested in the film. And, as she hasn’t been asked to do anything onscreen but look good, there is a chance she may be a great actress that we haven’t seen yet…
She is far from useless, she does exactly what she is supposed to do and does it well.
Kakki is right, there is no need to be vehement against a film you don’t want to see. If we all had the same taste and watched the same films, there would only be one film a week releasing, and it would be the same film week after week…
I really stopped having expectations for any upcoming films after “Tashan”

Bhidu sooopar movie hogi Tashan!! Akshay ko dekha? Kareena ka body ko dekha? Saif ka style dekha!! Promos mein kya chalte hain yaar teeno!! Pikchur sooopar hit hogi!!

Tashan sucked anyway…even its promos sucked. It was because of Akshay it got a 2.0 rating instead of a 1.0, if it got any. I don’t know what Yash Raj is coming up with these days.
But I’m looking forward to this movie…it looks like an entertainer and hell what more do I want.
PnU, this film will be a hit. The NRIs would love this film. And so will Indian audience. People who loved ‘Welcome’ will watch this movies cos it offers something like that. There were plenty of ‘em. There is a lot of expectation on this film. Where as ‘Tashan’ was only about Saif and Kareena affair and nothing else.

No offence HG saab, but this is one of those real duh-uh posts. you aren’t really stating anything other than the obvious. Come on, man- we deserve better from you.
On second thought, though I should really not complain- it’s been ages since I have posted a full length piece- and my Swades article is still stuck in the drafts. :( Will post soon.
@Phoenix- Whatever you say and however bad it may have been, Tashan cannot be compared to Singh is Kinng. It was a very non-formula film and not crowd pleasing in the least- what it attempted was interesting even if it couldn’t pull it off. Singh is Kinng will DEFINITELY be a hit- no doubt about that- I don’t even consider it being a flop a possibility.
Katrina must be the only actress in along time to achieve such success without any acting prowess. I mean despite all the criticism, even Aishwarya rai has always tried to play varied characters and further herself as an actress- in fact she started out with Iruvar. But Kats is undoubtedly very pretty and delicate (and hot!) (God knows what she sees in that buddha duffer Salman) and seems reasonably intelligent to me. Even though she comes in these generic roles, she never comes across as a total bimbette, and she does have a likeable screen presence. Maybe Kabir Khan’s (Kabul express) film will determine whether she really can act or not.
It is a ‘Duh-uh’ post – but it has to be discussed and posted. Life is made of trivial stuff, apparently.
Katrina needs a good director and a good pivotal role, then her acting can be judged seriously.

this movie will fail – it is when people think tht they have hit the sure-hit formula that the Cinema Gods interevene – look what happened to yashraj.
There have been a lot of starlets in years past who had no pretentions vis-a-vis acting. Ms. Kaif is following a great tradition in the footsteps of Saira Banu, Babita, Ramba etc. And as far as Salman Khan is concerned, again she is not the first one to use the casting couch to her advantage. I mean she was a two bit model till Salman Khan transplated her into Bollywood. Marilyn Monroe, did it and so did a host of other Bollywood actresses albeit, not so openly. So more power to her. Acting prowess or no acting prowess, she has made it! So suck it up gentlemen and appreciate the gumption of the woman if nothing else!
Katrina Kat isn’t even hot. Please. Stop this. She’s a card board cut out with a plastic smile.
