Sivaji-The Boss: Experience of a Fan
I am a Rajinikanth fan. My buddy Krishna and I purchased $21 tickets to watch the first day, first show of Sivaji in Los Angeles. We made a solid 30 mile drive to West Hills from Venice Beach, and as we planned, got there a good hour early so we could stand ahead in line and hog the best seats in the house. As we parked and walked towards the Laemmle multiplex, we saw that there was no queue. I must admit we were a little surprised. We handed our tickets to the usher and walked into the theatre, we got another shock. It was almost full!
The Rajini fans - students, computer engineers, doctors, children, uncles, aunties, grandparents, even the priests and cook from the Malibu Venkateshwara temple had already got there in hoards way before us. Celebrations were already taking place. Party horns and bugles were being blown by every other person, confetti being gathered, and tickets and flyers being carefully torn up for the paper-bit showers that would follow. Krishna and I looked at each other. “Dude, are we still in LA?”
The projectionist as always was late. It was 5 minutes past 9, and the movie still hadn’t started. But by now the chants had started. Different sections of the crowd had their own different chants demanding that the movie be started. A very mild looking oriental man peeped through the projection glass into the theater, shocked. The look on his face said it all. Upon seeing him, the crowd unanimously went up in another roar. Within 60 seconds, the projector lit up and the lights dimmed.
After the initial distributor commercial, a censor board certificate came up. The crowd went crazy, the movie was about to start. BUT WAIT! The title doesn’t say Sivaji! It says “Sultan (Trailer)”. The puzzled crowd begins to murmur and I like many others go, “What the hell is Sultan?” An animated sword flashes across the screen. A pair of feet move across. A hand picks it up. A title reads, “A Film by Soundarya Rajinikanth”. We all knew what it was. The crowd went mad as Rajinikanth’s phenomenally brilliant animated version reveals his face and does an exciting maneuver with the sword. Rajini will indeed be seen after Sivaji! But animated by his daughter in a full length feature titled “Sultan”. And from this sneak peek, it looks friggin cool! The screen goes blank. Another censor board certificate appears. Needless to say, this time, everyone knows what it is. The theatre is consumed in a ferocious mixture of roars, cheers, and applause. Rajini makes his entry, his face covered with a bag as he is escorted by a policeman into prison. The crowd continues to go mad! Rajini is placed behind bars. He turns around. The noise could mask a plane crash. The paper showers begin. The confetti is all over the place, as is the audience.
Every line is cheered, the villain is booed, and everytime something is said against Sivaji, the crowd lets out a yell, and when Sivaji strikes back, the cheers come back. After a good 15-20 mins, the crowd settles down as the exposition unfolds: Sivaji, a highly successful and wealthy man returns to India from America, with the dream of giving something back. He aims to build educational institutions and hospitals for the poor with all his money. But everytime someone wants to do good, there are hundreds with vested interests who want to stop it. And that is the basic crux of the story as Sivaji battles it out with the state’s biggest industrialist Adi Seshan, played by the Telugu actor Suman, who is absolutely dynamic and arguably one of the coolest villains seen in Rajini films.
The first half of the film is filled with pretty straight up slapstick entertainment. A couple of superbly picturized fights, gorgeously lensed songs with lavish (understatement) sets designed by the talented art director Thotta Tharani, and Vivek’s signature comic track. Some of the jokes fall flat, some are in poor taste, and some have you rolling on the floor. Whatever, who cares. A few cool dialogs in and out. Shriya Saran is beautiful and is a good dancer, though as expected, her role doesn’t demand much in terms of acting ability. Rahman’s music which took some time to grow on me, is fun. His background score kicks ass! Everyone’s having fun. That is until Rajini’s downfall begins. Shankar clearly, and unapologetically crafts his film to cater to die-hard Rajini fans, playing with and using their deep involvement in the film’s viewing to extract the right responses. Needless to say, as Rajini tosses his coin and adopts the “way of the lion” when pushed into his final corner, the audience knows what to expect as they return from the intermission.
Sivaji has style galore! There is nobody in this world who can pull of what Rajinikanth does. His mannerisms (a few newer ones in this film), the punch in his dialogue delivery, the gravity-defying stunts all are pure fun. He even pays a short and sweet tribute to the other greats of Tamil cinema - MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, and Kamalahaasan. Rumor has it that in the Telugu version the same scene sees Rajini tributing Chiranjeevi and NTR. Ok so the film really doesn’t offer too much in terms of plot, and there are more than just a handfull of illogical instances. But nobody really seems to care. You just gotta go with the flow. Don’t analyze. Heck everyone sitting in that theatre has a masters degree for god’s sake!!! You’re here to have fun, so just go with it. And if you do, there’s no doubt you’ll find yourself cheering for the superstar when he begins bashing up the baddies.
Sivaji is a long film at about 3 hours. The pacing like in all of Shankar’s films is pretty rapid. Shankar’s direction and vision is lavish and adds to Rajini brand of entertainment. The second half especially has the adrenaline pumping like mad, with some spectacularly choreographed fights, that again, only Rajinikanth can pull off. The end fight is especially entertaining with Rajinikanth in a new cool look like never seen before, something that is bound to become a rage in South India in the weeks to come.
For me as a fan, I had my expectations. The hype and rumors of this being Rajini’s last film only made the expectations even more gargantuan. I can quite happily say that this fan’s expectations were all met. Sivaji is paisa-vasool entertainment! At 58, Rajinikanth has still got it!
My favorite dialog from the movie: “Panni kootama thaan da varum. Singham eppo vum single a thaan da varum!” (Can’t translate. Loses the punch).
P.S. The theatre was totally trashed, I for one have lost my voice, and we Tamilians will perhaps never be allowed into the Laemmle Theatres ever again?

the movie was horrible..rajinis dialogue delivery with a shaky voice sounded worse..i juz hope dis old guy retires.. comparing to big b.. if big b is bad.. dis guy was worse.. i m glad bollywood doesn get any worse dan dhoom 2.. dhoom 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sivaji.. den imagine da crap on display..
Rajini s a media whore who screams fr attention.. i think da film ws Gentleman and anniyan combined.. f all shankar muvies.. only indian luks decent.. he clearly shws hw to make good musiv videos nd add masala to a bad script.. if dey r going 2 shw a movie with a message..den 1 shud expect sum logic.. and it sucks in doin it..no reflexn f realism at all.. such a poor film.. i want my 400 rs back :(:-t:-t:-t
shekar, how do u expect anyone to take you seriously? u are clearly not the target audience for this film.
shaky voice?? either ur ears nd desperate cleaning or u watched da film in a really bad sound system.
watched it n satyam cineplex chennai.. sitting next to trisha..another actress..his voice was bad.. actually da comedian vivek was pretty gud in punch lines..
But da film ws crap was total crap….dis s da reality.. [Comment edited]
how was trisha, sekhar? was she enjoying the movie? did you have a good look at her tits? maybe thats why you didnt like the movie.
DONT DARRRRRRRRRE SAY ANYTHING AGAINST RAJNI SAAR!!
MIND IT!!
waitin fr the moderators to take action against da personal attacks thrown..:-?
Awesome post… now you have me all geared up. CT is late, first show tomm.
Tribute to chiranjeevi by RAJNI SAAR, awesome!!!
Shekar, I suggest you say this standing outside Satyam Cineplex. Then you will get great sound effects and brillian action sequences. You will get action worth more than your 400 rupees.
BTW, why were you so desperate to watch this movie by buying the tickets in black…because of Trisha? haha! Why couldn’t you wait for your friends feedback and then watch the movie?
Rajni movie is all about celebrating Indian Cinema. Who the fuck cares about anything else? Shankar’s pictures are a must watch commercial fare! If Rajni and Shankar come together..this becomes a must not miss event!
I presume you must be a Kamal Hassan fan…..
Saw the move - first day first show in hyderabad in telugu. Rajni imitates ANR, NTR and Chiru in this version. Though he is a bit slow in dances , the movie is a treat to watch.
Its showing here in the UK!!
And i am bloody well going to see it!!!!!
My first Shanker film in a cinema….although i’ll try not to compare it to Shankers earlier films, I haven’t got over ‘Anniyan’ yet!
That was total paisa vasool!!
Yay!!!
Vijay: I guess the shows that both of us saw (my review has been up elsewhere on PFC too, btw) were “previews”. The funny thing is that you probably should go to the actual public first show (which is today) to get a better “experience”.
There were group of fellow hardcore thalaivar fan boys here in NJ as well wearing Sivaji t-shirts that were getting interviewed by a couple of tv channels from India (and the local AVS too), but the atmosphere was nowhere near Chandramukhi’s. The difference - Chandramukhi did not have a preview show and the first day actually saw the theater screening the movie in 4 halls, each starting 15 minutes after the other. So the shows ended close to each other and there was total mayhem. No property damage, but there were fans literally screaming their hearts out! It was like watching Padaiyappa in Thanjavur all over again!
Yesterday was sedate by that standard. Maybe I should take the 20 mile drive to Jersey City again tonight. Have emailed the distributor for tickets (none available on Indiaglitz), so fingers crossed! I’d settle even for the Telugu version, if I have to! But today is THE DAY!
Rajini Movies should be watched for Rajini himself. Who cares what the story is all about…
The man is great…. Respect that.
Look at his off screen apprerances.. looks more simple than me and you.. He has spent more money on social service then he has earned…
Ok dammit… where is the movie playing in OC/LA and does it have English subtitles? Searching online and can’t find the theaters this one is playing at. Was planning on watching Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (trashed by critics across the board), but may as well as see this one…
It’s on Yahoo front page
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070615/india_nm/india303285
@Anantha, I read your review. It was great! The screening I went to was not advertised as a preview show. It was first LA public screening. But whatever man. I had a great time as I’m sure you did as well.
@Oz, it’s playing in OC. As Om for details. He is going on Sunday morning 11 am show. No subtitles.
A Panjabi watching a Tamil movie without knowing the language and still getting paisa vasool at first show at PVR,juhu, mumbai speaks volume for Rajnikanth’s presence. The story is clear to understand with all its potholes and pitfalls in plot, still it is enjoyable..He was always likable in his Bollywood masala mixes, but i wanted to have the first hand feel of his pull and charsihma. What i missed out on understanding dialogues was made up with lavish locales, scintillating sets, colorful choreography, costumes, cinematography and freaky fight sequences..It puts so many of Bollywood blockbusters to shame in its mounting and still get away with its brashness-courtesy Sivaji-the boss..Full timepass.
[...] Sivaji-The Boss: Experience of a Fan : PassionForCinema [...]
What I like watching a Rajni movie on the first day first show is the challenge of getting the ticket. Watched the movie, but I liked what happened outside the theater more. I watch movies with no expectations and I am no die hard fan of any actor. The best thing about the movies was the songs. The sets and the cinematography used in the songs was very good. Rajinikant and Vivek acted well. Shreya looked very beautiful. Some comedy scenes were good.
The film was going in 1 pattern 1,2,1,2,1,2. That is serious scenes, then romantic-comedy scenes, serious, romantic-comedy, serious, romantic-comedy. No seriousness was given to the serious concept. Maybe Shankar was tired of giving serious messages through his films. B’cos no one listens to them. All what people remember of Shankar’s movies are the songs, dance, entertainment. The people never cared for the messages that Shankar tried to give.
Sivaji is Shankar’s worst.
[...] Balaji gibt eine knappe, vortreffliche Ersteinsch
I am just back from “Sivaji The Boss”! Watched it in Fame Adlabs! The Manager tells me that they have never before seen such crazy mayhem for a Tamil movie before.
Well, let’s not talk about the story…Who cares! It was Paisa Vasool to see one of the greatest style hero ever born in India on big screen! Suman as Adiseshan was brilliant.
Here is an amazing in-depth report by NDTV on the mania and how corporates are also cashing in. Very interesting tidbits in there: http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/videos.aspx?id=14378
Holy cow….been reading reviews all over…and the hysteria is unprecedented….this is Rajni magic at its best….Awesome review Vijay….So eager to go and watch it on Sunday….Though i might not expect as much “hullah” on Sunday as you witnessed Yesterday…but…even that would be great…
Watching a Rajni movie in a Theater is an experience…Sky- Jump and Roller-coasters are minuscule….
Rajni has Kicked AB’s ass
Ooops meaning
Sivaji has kicked Jhoom Bara Bar Jhoom ass….which duffer thought of releasing a movie on the same day as “any” Rajni movie….leave alone Sivaji….
btw…Vijay…Is sivaji the name of Rajni’s character? And who is the Special character that Shankar has been talking about….no no..wait dont tell…Will go and check….i am feeling a bit better now…Fever…kabooom with this review…wooohooo
Yes Sivaji is the name of Rajini’s character.
@Vijay:
Great review. I am dying to watch this movie in telugu. I waited for this combination (Shankar and Rajni) for so long and now it is here. I wish I was in hyderabad at this time.. Unfortunately, I am stuck in L.A without a car..
@ Kishan…LA? wow…we all are from LA man…oz, T!, Vijay, Anuj and me. What do you do? Where in LA?
Kishan, you should have left me a message on the blog yesterday about your transpo situation when we were discussing the movie all day on here man. You could have come with us. Although it would have been the Tamil version. I don’t think Telugu version is screening in LA. Only in San Jose for obvious reasons and the east coast.
@OM
Actually, I live in Glendale (aroun 12 miles north of LA). I will be moving out very soon though…
@Vijay
Yes. I just realised that Sivaji is not screening in LA for telugu version after checking a few websites. Anyway…I will be travelling to San jose next week and hopefully I can watch it there..
Thanks for ur responses..
i have seen Rajini’s hindi films like Bhagwandada, Giraftar, Chaalbaaz and Dalpati.liked him in Challbaaz.
Also seen Shakar’s moves-technically brilliant right from Hindustani to Aparichit. He has mastery in Song picturisation . But story is somewhat same in all movies like hindustani and aparichit.
Also saw some chirnajeevi movies dubbed in hindi
Rakshak(with sonali bendre and Varanasi bakground) and then diler(Namrata shirodkar and shivling story) films were technically good and story was different but highly dramatic. some situations were difficult to digest.
In hindi cinema we have not felt Sivaji type of craze since Gadar (2001) where public is shouting on every dialogue and waiting for tickets for hours.
All the TV channels have gone crazy with Sivaji and asking who is bigger, Rajnikanth or Amitabh Bachchan. As Rajnikanth himself put it, it is unfair on the media to compare them both as Rajni considers Amitabh as a far superior actor. But what about other aspects?
Let’s compare these two superstars on how their life shaped up.
Rajnikanth was born in a Marathi family in Karnataka, as Sivaji Rao Gaekwad. He lost his mother when he was just 5. It was a lower middle class family and his father worked hard to bring up all his children.
Amitabh was born in Allahabad. His father was Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a famous poet and an influential family. His mother is said to be a close friend of Indira Gandhi.
Rajnikanth studied in Ashram schools (free education) like Acharya patshala and Ramakrishna mission.
Amitabh studied in gnana prabodhini and one of the premier institutions of India like Naintal’s Sherwood College.
Both Rajnikanth and Amitabh were students of FTII. Rajni was in FTII Chennai while Amitabh in Pune.
Both started their career with small roles but the significant change in Rajnikanth’s career was with the movie “Billa”, a remake of Amitabh’s “Don”. Not many people know that Rajnikanth had acted in many remakes of Amitabh’s movies which became smashing hits in Tamil.
Both were the “Angry Young Men” of the seventies! These characters propelled them to superstardom.
While Amitabh started his production house ABCL to bring corporate culture and make a lot of money,
Rajnikanth produced a film to make the career of his old friends. He even gave all of them profits and put them as fixed deposits, the interest which their friends still draw.
Amitabh Bachchan went bust and almost came on the roads. Rajni never had to look back in his entire career.
While never actively entering politics, Rajnikanth once supported the TMC-DMK combine and caused AIADMK to lose terribly in the elections with just one sentence he uttered “Even God cannot save Tamilnadu if AIADMK returns to power”.
Now he keeps away from politics and keeps a respectable “No comments” stance on politics.
Amitabh Bachchan became an MP and actively dabbled in politics after shamefully exiting following controversies. After many years, he actively campaigned for the notorious Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP and his wife was nominated to RajyaSabha by SP.
Amitabh’s alignment with Amar Singh, a power broker and Mulayam Singh Yadav has tarnished much of his goodwill and the great name he had achieved over the years. No one can forget his “UP mein hain Dum, Jurm yaha kum hain (something like that) line.
Rajnikanth has no pretensions. He never flaunts his wealth and leads a simple life.
Well, no comments on Amitabh regarding the wealth part, but all I can say is he has the richest friends in his circle, including Anil Ambani!
Rajni is bald and never bothered about it. He comes out in public without a wig and looks totally comfortable about it. He has aged gracefully.
Well, Million Dollars to anyone who has seen Amitabh without a wig.
There is one similarity here. Rajni’s daughter married upcoming Tamil Superstar Dhanush while Amitabh’s son married the beautiful Aishwarya.
Both are religious. While Rajnikanth is just happy in his philosophy and regular trips to himalayas, Amitabh Bachchan is a regular visitor to all the temples of India. His visits are usually filled with fanfare, a huge cavalcade, A chopper courtery Reliance, Politicians and Industrialists like Amar Singh and Anil Ambani in tow.
We are still waiting for that one news item which manages to capture Rajnikanth visiting Himalayas.
Rajnikanth has built schools, colleges, hospitals, free marriage halls for the poor etc.
Amitabh has brought Prateeksha, Jalsa, Janak and even agricultural land and turned farmer!
Rajnikanth’s movie releases once in two years. Amitabh’s movies release twice in a month. Rajnikanth has decided that he will only make movies with a social cause as it is duty to give back something to the society that made him a superstar.
Amitabh Bachchan likes to encourage old men to fall in love with teenage and young girls and have lustful thoughts about them.
Who is the SUPERSTAR here?
I missed the career part.
Rajni started his career as a Bus conductor while Amitabh was a manager in Calcutta.
Rajni arrived in Chennai taking a loan from a friend who is a milk man.
Amitabh arrived in Mumbai with a letter from the then Prime Minister of India “Indira Gandhi”
and they both suck…
except rajni in bala chander movies.
remember ‘anthuleni katha’…
I wish somebody write a review on this masterpiece..
Easy to comment if good or bad Movie…. people who dono to understand pls excuse. i really appreciate director shankar’s high end picturisation, costumes and turning a 60 year old man to 30 yr man which none other can do it and rajni’s style and dialogues he’s back again. Script is awesome and has just shown which is a real fact that’s happenening in the society. i wish a very good luck to rajnikanth the boss, director shankar and avm who has worked hard to bring this project a grand success. ACTION COMEDY…..STYLE CLIMAX…. WHAT ELSE U WANT…it’s perfect i wish to watch this movie again if i get a ticket.
OM… “which duffer thought of releasing a movie on the same day as
MK,
Just want to point out some minor errors in what you had written.
Rajni arrived in Chennai to try out his luck in movies with money from a friend Raja Bahadur, who worked along with him as a bus driver. Raja Bahadur only paid for Rajni’s course at the institute, after which he got a break from director K. Balachander.
And there is no FTII in Chennai. Rajni studied at the Film Institute, Adyar, which was started by the State Government.
Managed to see it last night!
I was so surprised at the U.K audience reaction to Rajnikant!!
There was a THUNDEROUS applause when he appeared on screen!!
They cheered, laughed, cried…man, it was mad!!!
BUt a real experience!!
And, the surprise after the film was bigger than the film itself!!
I met an Englishman, who patiently sat through the whole film, even though it had no subs!!
He loved it, and we got chatting..as he was alone like me:(
But boy, never let no-subs put you off… trust me, it a very easy story to follow….
And i am not a Tamil speaker, although i am familiar with a few words.
If it’s still on..go and see it!!!
Even if its just for the crazy audiences!!
I have to share this with u guys..
12:08 east to bucharest is the funniest movie I have seen in a long long time….it is like laught-out-loud funny….reminds me of those early days of brahmanandam..
please dont miss it…
Venky, the same guy also runs a milk business. Yeah I meant Adyar Film Institute. My father was in the senior batch of Rajnikanth from the same institute but in Direction.
touch your heart and ask how this good movie is.. well i would say, this is the worst movie from sankar.. lets accept rajni has become old.. unable to move from a spot.. its only his hands and face which moves.. first half of the movie is really entertaining with the rajni-vivel combo doing reallly well.. but second half is stretched beyond any limits with illogical fights and illogical scenes.. read some comparisons btwn rajni and amitabh..now the fact that rajni came from a very poor background does not make him a bigger actor than amitabh.. neither does it make amitabh a bigger actor than rajni.. i would say two things
1)amitabh is a better actor than rajni .. reason cd be that even a director like sankar has only movies like sivaji to offer for ranji..
2)Rajni is the biggest superstart india has seen…because he is able to make a stupid movie like Sivaji a blockbuster.. that’s pure superstar charisma…
MK: Comparisons are good to do. But both Amitabh and Rajinikant are two very different kind of actors.
But you may be absolutely wrong regarding their debut in films.
What made you think that in the era of “India is Indira and Indira of India” if Amitabh Bachchan had recommondation letter from Indira Gandhi then he could have got role in a film like Saat Hindustani?
Prithviraj Kapoor was neighbour of Dr Bachchan, father of Amitabh and Dr Bachchan had requested Prithvi Raj Kapoor if he could help his son in film world but Dr Bachchan got no answer. If Amitabh had Recco. letter from Indira Gandhi then I dont think ANYBODY in the hindi film Industry would not have come forward to make a film with Amitabh. With Indira Gandhi’s letter he worked in those films, Pyar Ki kahani, Bombay to Goa etc.
seems you are completely unaware of his filmography.
Dont go so high in your imagination. Facts of past cant be changed because of todays prevailing situations.
Criticise Amitabh Bachchan for right things, mean where you find him wrong or weak in craft but dont impose your fancies on ur ill feelings towards him.
One cant compare Amitabh and Rajini as actors. they have done only few hindi films together and Hindi is not Rajini’s language so this is quite possible that he was not at ease in those roles.
At present Rajini’s social behaviour and image is far superior than Amitabh’s. But their social image cant be a parameter to judge their acting capabilities.
Being a fan is good but being a blind fan is a stupid thing.
I know Rajinikant is a respected super star but
What about AB is doing free ads for Polio?
Also he is refusing big proposals for Wine and cigarette ads.
What about he is very punctual about timing on sets and not harrassing producers?
What about AB’s recent various attempts in acting like Black, Cheeni Kum, Sarkar…….
Blame AB for doing Boom, Kyun ho gayaa naa…but
Pls. don’t try to spoil AB’s image just for comparison.
MK: Amitabh never got any education at any acting institute let alone FTII. Jaya bachchan had got her diploma in acting from FTII Pune. Hope you are aware of her admision story.
and sorry for not seeing your most cynical comment earlier.
you said in comment 7 above “I presume you must be a Kamal Hassan fan
There are many discussion boards where you can find Rajinikanth’s fans arguing that Sivaji is a great movie and the all other actors are zero to Rajni. They say that Sivaji is one of the greatest movies ever made. The movie has got a lot of publicity and has received a very good opening all over.
The movie is a huge success and all Rajni’s fans are saying that this is one of the greatest movies ever made. Because of this South Indian movies may get a bad name. People who are watching South Indian movies for the first time may say, “Is this what South Indian movies are all about ?” “Is this the best of South Indian movies ?”
link is for those who try to create a battle between AB and Rajinikanth
http://content.msn.co.in/Entertainment/Bollywood/BollywoodIFM_210607_1614.htm
In my previous comment I did not mean all Rajni’s fans. I meant some of them. I am also a Rajni fan. But not a blind fan.
Pretty pathetic movie. I mean shankar has the most limited brain in movie making when it comes to come up with a decent story. We have seen Bharathi Raja who could make a mudhal mariyathai and an equally good Kaithiyin Diary. This guy churns the same story again and again and again and again. Rajini 10 years back would have made some impression. Watching a 57 year old grandpa trying to get our adrenaline pumping is really painful.
Sivaji, The Boss Rocks as
because
Rajni rocks in style
Shankar rocks in direction
Shreya rocks in Beautifulness
Vivek rocks in comedy
Thotta tharani rocks in settings
arrehman rocks in songs
suman rocks as a baddie
and overall
the movie rocks in big screens as a blockbuster.
U Guys No idea about the power of Rajni. Especially to you Vivek.
Amitabh Has 20 Fanclubs in india.
Rajni Has more than 63000 in india.
Amitabh Does 4-5 films a year
Rajni once in two Years
Amitabh Take 3-4 crores per movie.
Rajni Takes 35 Crores.
Amitabh Doesnt have fan following in Japan, Malaysia, UK, Singapore, America as much as The Great Style King Rajni kanth Has.
Even if the entire bollywood, tollywood comes together still they cant beat the Power and Magic OF THE GREAT RAJNIKANTH…….
Nanna Panduley Gumpuga Osthaayi Kaani Simham Single Ga Osthadi.
Pigs Come in groups but Lion Comes Alone. Thats Sivaji.

Dammit, why didn’t I go see this movie when my friends asked me to go with them ?!!:((
I was put off by the no subtitles deal….I was told by a theater owner that the South Indian crowd complains when there are English subtitles in their movies.
Well it looks like I’ll either have to have a party and invite all South Indians when the DVD comes out or watch it quietly by myself……..
If you’re gonna watch it quietly by yourself, you might as well not watch it.
I read few comments in your website about rajani’s sivaji the boss. Few critics critisize rajani for this film. But it is nothing but zealousy. May be they are not able to digest the popularity, name, fame which rajani got. That is the mentality of few indians they know only hurting others.
My only question to those people is ? show me a single person who is so popular as rajani is in overseas? The whole of sourth africa, japan middle east, Malesiya, Indonesiya, Austrelia, France UK America? the whole part of Asia ? Show me one name?
My dear critics, Rajani is notonly superstar in films he is superstar in real life. That is the reason why he has got millions of fans all over the world. The greatness of rajani is his simplicity. He is down to earth inspite of so much fame. Your so called bollywood stars like Big B, Shaharuk, Amir, Salman, Ritik are nowhere near to him.
Final word, the more u critisize rajani, the more popular Rajani will be.
Long live rajani, Long live Tamilnadu & tamil people.
askujji(Maharastrian)
From SOUTH AFRICA…Well I have also got to read a few comments & very dissapointed with the bitter comments made. I agree with Naveen, Ashok & some of the other guys…Rajani is a real SUPERSTAR. I could not wait for the arrival of this movie to South Africa & after watching it I have no regrets, it was a superb movie, we enjoyed it thoroughly. I am a Rajani fan & I admire his guts to pull out all the stops.
Grandpa or not he is our Lion!
LONG LIVE RAJANI & LONG LIVE TAMIL PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD!!!
Saw the Telugu version. Movie itself had a fun plot. But I am amazed at how amateurish such a high budget movie looks. THey tried to copy Hollywood movies with the speeding up of scenes, but it comes across as laughable. THe trick is not to overdo it. Action scenes looked fake at times. There is a lack of timing in the way stylish scenes are filmed. Angles are laughable. The cinematography was a joke at times. MAybe it dazzles people who are ignorant of moviemaking.
The Telugu version of the tribute to the old stars is easily better than the Tamil version. GO to Youtube and compare them. Search for Rajni NTR and you will see a match. THe songs in the Telugu tribute were more fun selections than the Tamil tribute to the superstars. His impression of Chiranjeevi and NTR were so much fun to watch.
Aboslutely scintillating news for true Super star fans.
