Except childhood portion, hyped & bit illogical at times. Many weaknesses are not expected in a film made by world famous director.

RK,
please care to explain more about the shortcomings ….
well, now that’s new…RK can we have a detailed post on this please will be really interested in an argument…
as of me, noticed many flaws as well but the film made me willing to look over them and play along with it..something rarely achieved by a film in recent times, and that itself won me over!
@Anand Kadam,
Definetely will care to explain more once film is released properly in India.
Since majority of PFC’s readers belong to India so will write after 3-4 days (or whenever gets opportunity) of its theatrical release.
@Rusted rick,
Please see comment 3, w.r.t, a detailed post.
But I did not get your initial four words (well, now that’s new…)
What is new?
Not to be impressed by the film?
or inability to ignore the weaknesses?
Film has to do this job of winning over an audience watching it without any kind of positive or negative expectations.
I must mention, I have not read the book on which film is based.
There is a film and it has a story and I have to go by that.
—
In one line review, only few things can be mentioned and words may give impression that this is overall impression, though its not true.
In detailed post, I will be able to mention what I liked and what I did not or could not like.
By the time film is released in India, people should try to watch “Boot Polish” also. That also represents Hindi cinema.
I would precisely expect weaknesses in the film. i would probably not like it if it were perfect.
Rk sir, confused, utterly in what you said above.
Will wait for the post but Ye Tu Brute!!! ;-)
@Ravptor,
You would probably not like it if it were perfect!
Why you would not have liked a better film?
and if it has weaknesses then its almost certain that these weaknesses will offend cinematic sensibilities of viewers and hence subjective views will be obtained.
About its merits, objective views should come out.
Its one line review, If I had written, what a film, marvellous, would that have served any honest purpose?
I opted the best possible words to define it in present circumstances. Childhood portion is very good. Rest has shortcomings. so overall its reduced to an average (and may be above average) film but nothing beyond that.
It will be good if people go without any expectation and come out with a satisfaction than to go with high expectations and come out with little disappointment.
Rk sir,
I liked the fact that the film had its flaws. Call me crazy but everything is so perfect in Hollywood and its all structured and perfectly casted and stuff… i like a little bit of chaos.
I like the fact that the lead could not dance perfectly… it makes sense… he is a slum kid com’on!
Anyways, lets talk after ur review. I like the big reviews!!!
Rk bhai – will wait for your post. I too found it to be very interesting during the story portions of childhood. Will stop here not to spill beans..
@Ravptor,
Yes more after a properly detailed post.
I dont think I would judge the film on the basis of Dev Patel’s dancing skills.
Though I find your comment on dance of a slum kid little odd.
When TV is all around then dance can not be area specific and any kid anywhere can dance better than other kids living in posh locality. Surely he can not have expensive dance classes but for natural performers and learners these things and limitations dont bother.
Re: film, if you have missed, Jamal dances very well in his childhood and that was clear from his moves in a 20 seconds performance before Latika.
@Tejas,
Surely we will discuss more on the film later.
——–
I couldn’t understand the character of Anil Kapoor. Why is he hostile towards a chaiwala?
——–
I feel that only Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are getting media-attention and the superb performances by the kids are ignored.
@Hyderabadi,
Danny Boyle has said yesterday that he has not made a documentary but an entertaining film.
Anything is possible under this umbrella of entertaining film.
Dont search much meaning in a meaningless film.
—–
Dev patel and Freida Pinto are uselful for market so they will enjoy the fruits of the trees which were planted by the kids.
Kids can not be encashed by the market hence they have to be in background.
WORLD is UNFAIR for most of the times.
KIDS are taken forgranted everywhere.
But this thing may teach them some lessons for their future.
Re: Anil Kapur,
Since its an entertaining film and Jamaal has to play a sort of nice guy so to make him looking like Mr Nice or Mr White, other characters have to enter in to a grey shaded skin. If Anil Kapur was not hostile towards Jamaal then how police Thana scenes could have been inserted into the film?
That removes existence of Irrfan Khan and Saurabh Shukla.
Worst film by Danny Boyle.
I heard that he has enrolled himself into Subash Ghai institute of film making to make films that celebrate mediocrity in their mediocre ways brilliantly. Good luck for oneof my fave film makers and hopes that he gets himself detoxicated quickly and comes back with something better next time.
SlumD M is good movie, some pitfall in story line but overall well made.
I liked film ,its a little bit different than other indian movies .I think its best film taken by Danny Boyle
