Spiderman – ek prem kahani…
…..or superHERO – the love story of a spy(derman). Spiderman3 can be and should be renamed for sure. And with titles like these, sunny deol can replace Tobey Maguire now. In India, the film has been dubbed in many languages…hindi, tamil,telugu and even bhojpuri. Now I know why.
There is a hero, there is heroine, there are villains, there is hero’s friend and there is love triangle. Guess what ? Hero loves heroine. Heroine loves hero. Hero’s friend enter the scene. Villains attack the hero. Hero’s friend figures out that he has misunderstood his friend. And there is Ramu Kaka also who clears all the miscommunications. So, hero’s friend happily dies when the villain attacks the hero. Like those hindi formula films of 80’s, Spiderman3 is typical Manmohan Desai and a big let down.
No no…i didnt use my brains either. I left it at home only as u r expected to do. But Spiderman1 and 2 were much better than this one in every way. Superheroes work for me only if the villains are super-villains too. Otherwise they become Krrish where villains just wait for the hero to come and get killed. Spidey’s bad boys in this third installment dont have any charm to them. Sandman…WTF is he ? Put water on him and he cant do anything. ha ha ha. And the venomguy….was too excited about the idea of black spidey fighting with the red one. sounded so good before i saw the film. But not impressive at all.
Instead of this new one, its better to watch Spiderman2 again. The villain Dr Octavius was so powerful and so sexy that everytime he would attack Spidey, I would think if he kills my favourite superhero….I wouldnt mind at all. If Spidey has to die, the killer has to be Dr Octavius.With his octopus like arms the way he would climb the walls, it was spectacular.
Special effects, cg n all that…..superhero movies are for visual treat only. But then all these should look real. This one doesnt have any single fight/chase sequence that i remeber after it got over. There are 2-3 chase sequences but they look so fake. Looks like Spidey and his villains are flying through a cardboard city. The second one had a damn good train sequence. I still remember everything about that one. Similarly in the first part, the first time Spidey meets his girlfreind…that was wow.
Spiderman3’s biggest drawback….it drags on n on n on. In the first half, the story doesnt move at all. Its almost 2hours and 30mins lonnnnngggg!!!! And Spiderman does the unthinkable….he cries also. In one scene, when Tobey’s girlfriend tells him that they cant be together anymore. He breaks down and the whole theatre had a good laugh. Cant he just lift her in the air and sing one song….aasman se aaya farishta, pyaar ka sabak sikhlane…..that would have made it complete desi.
Please can I have my old Spidey back….for the sake of good old doordarshan days…when Spiderman would come to our living room with a background score of spiderman… spiderman. Spidey cant change so much. Plz!!!! Will go n watch Spiderman1 & 2 again on dvd tonite!!

And what’s so wrong about being like a bollywood film? 1 Billion people watch bollywood films and enjoy them. It’s all entertainment. If Sam Raimi wants to adapt a Bollywood sensibility to Spidey, I see no problem with it.

In western countries liked Shekhar Kapoor’s Elisabeth because its treatment was different than what they see in regular Hollywood film.
Sense the era man, Whatever you may call, but Hindi films have generated curiosity in people all over the world(not Indians). They have accepted the special format and now is the phase when they have started seeing them with that understanding. They laugh on the factors like, dance sequences take actors anywhere in the world within five minutes and actors change 100 dresses in that song but now that laugh is not objectionable but they have started liking hindi films as full package so these objections are little things. If you find latest Spiderman with touches of hindi films then it says something.
They have accepted hindi films as one more genere.
and its good. Not every genere film is always a master piece, thats a problem with genere based films. They always have lot of weaknesses.
Basically nobody in a position to reject hindi films outrightly
Vijay, RK…no problem with it if the spidey is hindi/bollywood or whatever film. But the film is bad ya with everything that is predicatble. we started looking upto west because they told those stories which we never thought of. now if they are copying our stories, its good for us but they r dumbing down!!! didnt work for me at all.

You are very right that for the sake of variety, audience look far and wide to get different kind of stories and presentations.
i totally agree! want old spidey back. i was sooooooooo bored during the film. it just kept going on and on…. making no sense. i hated Toby as the bad guy! hated the film but loved what u’ve written….:):)
hey,c’mon!the movie is basically for kids.The only problem is,kids cant go watch the movie by themselves,and that is where Sam Raimi thinks he can get away with a lot of slack.Unfortunately its the box office collection that matters more.:-@
