Srinivas at MAMI Festival

I don’t know where Manjeet has disappeared! Where have you gone after posting MAMI FILM FESTIVAL 2008? I, in fact, everyone were relying on you to give us a daily update. I know. I know. it can be very hectic. but. Anyway, I will wait for your detailed report, but for time being, apna Srinivas has won the top prize for his short film “Vaapsi”, which stars D Santosh as a struggling actor:

In a new concept called Dimensions Mumbai, five-minute films based on different aspects of Mumbai were showcased by aspiring filmmakers under 25 years of age. A total of 82 entries had been received for this section.

And guess what, who do you think presented the award to Srinivas?:

Mrs Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who presented an award to Srinivas Sunderrajan for his film Vaapsi

Vaapsi (The Return): 4mins/Black and white/Mumbai
An introspective journey of a struggling film actor in the city of Mumbai.

Cast: D Santosh
Story-Screenplay/Camera/Edit/Producer/Director: Srinivas Sunderrajan
Dialogues: Irshad Ali
Music: Akshay Rajpurohit

I, on behalf of passionforcinema.com, would like to congratulate Srinivas, D Santosh and his team for winning the top prize in the short film category (Dimensions) at MAMI Festival. I hope you guys find a bit of space to write a bit about Vaapsi…

Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor, Carlos Saura & Gulzar were also winners at MAMI Festival:

Veteran actor Dharmendra received the Lifetime Achievement award and Rishi Kapoor was acclaimed for his significant contribution to cinema for over 35 years at the concluding ceremony of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images’ (MAMI) 10th International Film Festival, Mumbai.

The first Global Lifetime Achievement award was given to Carlos Saura, a renowned Spanish filmmaker, while lyricist-filmmaker Gulzar was conferred an award for outstanding contribution to Indian film music.

PS. Last year he won an award for his first short film ‘Tea Break’ at IFFLA 2007.
