SRK - Successful Reliable Khan [Shah Rukh Khan]

SRK is entirely different entity in the genre of Super Stars. He may not be great actor but he certainly is a great star and he keeps candle burning with every blockbuster. SRK could be said first successful manager super star who manages well what he likes to do. As he writes in memoirs that he never was good student but he managed to keep steady good performance and always got nice marks. He is doing same even now when other actors give stunning performances at times but its SRK who not only rules the box office but is praised for his acting in variety of movies. SRK surpass every contemporary star in his off screen image where he has something extra in real life which these stars don’t have. If one has to study the phenomenon behind the name SRK then one will have to study his off screen things as well. He knows very well how to project him. If someone asks whether he is best in country? he replies, in very cool manner with trademark smile,“ best in the world”. Other contemporary actors can be compared with SRK as other cricketers are compared with Sachin Tendulkar. Sometimes other play better than Sachin but still he is the Champion. Same is true with SRK. In his 12 years in glamour world not a single story has been floated about him that he was engaged in extra marital affair or he showed starry tantrums to anyone or he mistreated anyone or was not professional with any film or Director. Somehow stories about him associate him with the millions of boys all over the India. He is Delhi boy with no filmi background or sugar daddy in the filmdom and he used TV as first step of ladder and climbed higher and higher as opportunities came his way. He stands apart from other actors whose education levels are not known but everybody knows about SRK that he is a sure graduate and did his mass communication diploma. He is somewhat real. He keeps hopes alive in those boys who want to make big in tinsel town. Star sons are not seen as role model for common boy living in small city because atleast their entry in the cine world was quite easy. What SRK has got, he has earned himself. He has not achieved this status overnight. Struggling people may associate with him easily. All know SRK’s love story and how he won love of his wife like a true filmi kahani and that real love life story gives credibility to his lover boy image when he is shown to keep extraordinary belief in his love in Chalte Chalte. He does not look awkward when he goes along with Rani to Greece knowing very well that she is engaged and her wedding is there after few days. He truly believes in his love and acts according to that instinct and this matters a lot in genre of lovers and SRK earns good marks as ideal lover then. His present day’s roles are very much in tune with lively nature of Rajesh Khanna’s Anand or Bawarchee role or for that resemblance, role of Raj Kapur in Shri 420 where he wants to keep people happy in his surrounding. Through SRK that protagonist has come back who was going in tune with Rajesh khanna when cinema was not filled with blood shade. He is flirt on screen but he is not super man. He is not aloof, gloomy and filled with anger inside like Vijay of late 70s and early 80s. He looks same in real life also and that gives his present day’s roles a kind of credibility. If someone has lived the roles of Rajesh Khanna’s winsome protagonists in real life then its SRK. He has made a sense of fraternity around him though he was an outsider in film Industry. He has been earning friends and today a lot of people can vouch for SRK. Today Yash Chopra calls him “ghar ka hero”. Karan Johar is family. He is equally easy going with elders like Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and with younger lot also like Hritik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan etc. Susan Roshan looks touched when she recalls that how SRK called Hritik when later did not win national award for best actor for his role in KMG. His sense of humour has something to say about. Remember SRK in KBC. He was joking with AB by saying “ Sir Apki unchain se to sab chote dikhai dete hain”. He is spontaneous in real life. His interviews are lively. He is associated with term energetic. His co stars say about him that he is super intelligent, he exerts energy etc etc. He did not see the mania all around the nation all of sudden like Rajesh Khanna and Hritik Roshan had seen after Aradhana and KNPH respectively. He did not either get stardom like Amitabh Bachchan got, after giving thirteen forgettable flop films, when roaring Zanzeer became super hit. SRK was a known face all around when he lured audience by saying “ I say chap” through his first TV serial “Fauji”. Fauji role was befitting somewhere with his own persona, lively, energetic, smart, flirt and charming. His beginning in the films was not good with Dil Ashna hai which surely was not made to project SRK as hero and he was criticised for selecting such weak role for his launching in Hindi film Industry ( As if newcomers from non-filmi background have choice !!!!). His second film Deewana posed him as a hopeful actor. He has always been doing something different than what others have been doing. When it was again the era of sweet love stories with humming tunes then he pulled attraction with negative shaded role in Bajigar. Later Darr rang the alarm for all, about his confirmed arrival in film Industry. Its not clear how many actors, who want to become mainstream hero, would go for role of young boy fascinated by a married elder woman in Maya Memsaab. 1993 was not the era of multiplexes when he played this rather daring role. This is lame allegation that his protagonist never work in movies. Unless hero is fighting with some mission we seldom have watched heros working. And this is true all over the world no matter if its bollywood or hollywood. Its understood that whenever he is shown as rich person then nobody will go to watch how he reads balance sheet or how he is behaving in meeting of BOGs . In Chalte Chalte he was shown to face business problems and subsequent stress was shown to ruin his married life. It depends which part of life of hero is given preference in the story. If motive to get revenge is bigger than other things, he would sacrifice his love ala Bazigar. If love is bigger than every other thing he would be ready to sacrifice even his freedom in life e.g. Veer Zara. Audience go for his credibility that if his role demands to bring electricity in the village he would be shown to do hard work (Swadesh). His early roles were also of a struggler be it Bajigar, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman or KHKN. DDLJ was first such movie where he had silver spoon in his mouth when he was born. Pre DDLJ, his protagonist was ready to do anything and was deadly focussed on his mission to get his desire, be it love or revenge. But DDLJ changed all that and perhaps the role, resembled to his own persona No wonder this is the movie which brought superstardom to him. Though SRK’s hero will not sulk or will leave on fate, as Dev Anand left in Hum Dono when rich father of Sadhna showed him exit, and would do anything to win his love. But now he is sensitive and sensible also and when he sees that everybodyelse will be sad except him if he continues his mission to get his love than he would become ready to sacrifice his love. Veer Zara repeated this sensitivity. Now love is pure, honest and somewhat ideal. He may also weep with the tears in the eyes of mother of girl. He can be the most happy person to get what he likes but not callous that would do it on the cost of dead bodies of people around him. When sensitivity overwhelms his power to win the situation anyhow, he may take U turn and utmost honesty in him comes on surface now. He may not turn out to be good husband as he has to achieve a lot and can take his wife for granted but once he realises that she may go away from his life he would do anything again to win her heart. He needs a sort of understanding. (Chalte Chalte) . He may like comfort ( who does not like?) but this is valid only till something has not touched deeply because once his heart is touched he is ready to do anything, be it coming back in village from USA ( Swadesh ). This new lover, blend of boyish lover and mature lover, is more responsible and ideal also to some extent . This new synthesis runs hand in hand with persona of SRK. Perhaps his life did not allow him to be choosy in professional life like Aamir Khan at the age of thirty but he can control his selection at the age of forty. SRK has covered a good distance from negative shaded roles of Darr bajigar anjam, confused comical roles of KHKN, Duplicate, yes boss etc, loving boy’s roles of DDLJ,DTPH,KKHH to committed mature love in Veer Zara and has touched another dimension with Swadesh. Swadesh is the most different movie in terms of subject and he does not disappoint in his performance. His agonies are similar to any such person living abroad but wriggling inside to do something for his country. He is there to do experiments and goes even for small role in Hey Ram which no superstar would do. His blockbusters may have similar styles but he has done different roles in past. Today when he is relaxed in terms of his box office position he is doing romantic easy going roles which he himself calls cake walk for him. Rajesh Khanna was superstar but he was not successful in every kind of roles, he was master to play with romance, emotions and drama. Moreover if people loved Rajesh Khanna in his romantic roles then one cant complain why he was not as successful in action based roles. Like Govinda is accomplished actor but got success only in comedy based roles. To be good in all kind of acting is different then the acceptance by audience in all kind of roles. There is little difference between fine actor and good star and SRK’s success lies in this fact that he manages both things well and wherever he is weak he fills the gap with his other strength. People love this something SRK special in his films if he does better than that, its bonus if not then they are not cheated because they get entertainment. Heros are actor as well as crowd puller. Mass appeal has something to say about. People don’t like anyone without any reason. He might not be great actor like Dilip Kumar and Amitabh bachchan but he managed well when he acted opposite AB in Mohabatein. He was not better Devdas than Dilip Kumar but then Bhansali was also not better than Bimal Roy. Bhansali made entirely different and more dramatic Devdas. Everything and everybody was different. Heros are also developed with the developments of Directors. Film is basically a director’s medium. At present almost all major Directors of Hindi cinema are extracting what they think best out of SRK. If SRK is a package as RGV has famously said then its also true that today’s filmmakers like Bhansali and Ashutosh Gowarikar are trying to sell and tell their stories through this package. Which film producer or Director does not want that his movies should work with audience as SRK’s does? If he is in this position where he is said to be work with best among Industry then it tells something about him. He may be termed as glib when he says he has no shame in dancing at weddings and parties because whatever he earns there gives him selection power to do films which he really likes to do. He says he would never do a film for money. He has defied the myth that over exposure can be fatal for a film star. He is available in dozens of advertisements floating several times every hour on TV. People see him in so many ads but still they may wait till 1 AM in night to see his dance at Award function and that becomes the biggest event of the ceremony. It can be personal choice but coming in Ads is not bad anymore and it can be said that in the era of current affairs SRK has won this game also. This all tells that he has some philosophy towards what he is doing and his success suggests that his philosophy is not wrong. SRK is befitting in present days hindi cinema and as sky is always ahead we never know when he can also come out with some performance which is comparable to any world class acting.

We strongly feel SRK is not a fit actor in KBC. Rajesh Khanna who is the real superstar of indian cinema is the real actor who suits for KBC

    Vinod Kumar:
I have read that Rajesh Khanna has requested Sonia Gandhi that he should be allowed to contest MP’s election from Patiyala constituency. Seat is empty now after resignation of Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Rajesh Khanna would join politics again or films?
