Sunday 100: Snow in Srinagar
The cold wavefront in North India has caught the people on the back foot. The extreme weather is/was unbearable in some part of India. Shimla, Srinigar, Kashmir.. were or are completely under the snow. Even Mumbai, normally a warm place, is a lot colder. The minimum temperature in Mumbai is around 10 degree celsius, that was a week ago.
I would not want to live in a marble palace, in this sort of weather. Indians will have to build home smartly in future. Is it global warming or global cooling! (It is getting warmer (and windy) where I live!)
The weather has affected so many people’s life; in a negative way and a positive way. Mother Nature can be very mischievous sometimes. She has smartly or beautifully hidden most of the wrongs done by her brutal weather in India.
Shimla is like alpine or Switzerland of India. The Dal lake or the Kashmir Valleys look amazingly stunning. Kashmir, the Heaven of the Earth, is alive , albeit temporarily only.
Time for Shammi Kapoor to make a re-entry! And God should send RafiSaab back to the earth for at least a day!(An entire post needs to be dedicated to the duo Shammi - RafiSaab!)
…sard aahen keh rahi hai, hai yeh kaisi balaa ki aag
sote sote zindgaani ghabara ke uthi hai jaag
main yahaan se wahaan jaise yeh aasmaan
chaahe koyi mujhe junglee kahe, kehne do jee kehta rahe
hum pyaar ke toofaanon mein gire hai, hum kya kare
chaahe koyi mujhe junglee kahe
yahoo! yahoo!
So without further ado, the title for this week is:
Snow in Srinagar

Javed, houseboat owner stands quietly on the edge of the frozen Dal lake. It’s dusk and the snow continues to fall silently.
He glances at his locked houseboat, lifts his Firan and walks towards his cottage.Once inside he takes out an B/W photo album,a daily ritual.Photographs of his customers taken ages ago. Amongst them were Mumbai filmstars.Shammi Kapoor,Sharmila,Jeetendra, many more.
He hears the sound of gunfire. He rushes out to see his houseboat on fire.Soldiers surround him, telling him terrorists were hiding inside for days. He’s led away.
Just another day in paradise.
It was late evening and a couple coming back from visiting Dal Lake halted at a chaiwallah, to take a little break before heading back to the hotel. The chaiwallah asked the couple, “What do you think of gorgeous Kashmir so far?” Before they could reply to the chaiwallah, An old man wrapped around in a thin shawl and sitting around fire interrupted, “Aaj thand hain - it is cold - not as cold as people’s heart have become, though”. The couple left and he kept muttering with others. Then later it started snowing & the fire died out.
He looked out of the window and then at the canvas. Somehow his colours didn’t look real. He looked out again, looking for the colours of nature but there was only one colour, the whole of Srinagar was coloured in white.
Frustrated, he picked up the brush again and BANG!
The next moment he was lying on the white ground, blood oozing out, his heartbeat dying fast.
He looked up, yellow flames and black smoke. He looked at his side, a red drop of blood from his forehead fell on the white snow…he had finally seen the colours of nature.

reminded me of ‘bhasmasur’
:((
My world went into a tizzy and that tune played again.
How I hate that song. Why not a different melody? Perhaps something with a little less melancholy. It was a constant reminder of my sacrifice and immobility.
It hurt to watch the snow descend on my lake. Everything kinetic but me. It would end soon enough though. The music box would die out, and so would the precipitate. All still again, just like me. This was the price I paid to save a slice of paradise.
Trapped in a snow globe toy in the hands of a little boy.
Farvari ki sardiyon ki dhoop me
moondi moondi ankhiyon se dekhna
haath ki aad se
nimmi nimmi thand aur aag mein
haule haule maarwa ke raag mein
Meer ki baat ho
din bhi na doobe, raat na aaye
Shaam kabhi na dhale
Barfeeli sardiyon me
kisi bhi pahaad par
Vaadi me goonjati huee
Khamoshiyaan sunein
Aankhon me bheege bheege se
lamhe liye hue
dil dhoondhta hai phir wahi fursat ke raat din
Jaadon ki narm dhoop aur
aangan me late kar
aankhon pe khinch kar
tere aanchal ke saaye ko
aundhe pade rahein kabhi
karwat liye hue
dil dhoondhta hai!
first few couplets are from that Saathiya song Chupke Se? What about the rest? A fusion between some of the Gulzarsaab lyrics or you have incorporated some of your lines? :-?
HG…the remiaing lines are also gulzar’s from Mausam. Read my take on that song (along with another very old song):

Last rain of winter; tonight, it will snow. Morning, my piss will drill holes yellow, in the pristine snow. Put kangri out of bed, many houses it has burnt. Don
Vinayak, that made me laugh out loud.
The beauty of the snowy landscape is superficial.
@Aditya, Vishrant
Thanks guys.

They had decided to leave the paradise for a better place. She had left home early in the morning. It was cold but it had not snowed in Srinagar yet.
There she was waiting for him on the station.
And then everything happened in a blur….”come Shazia beta, fast… They have killed Mr. Sharma and his son! …. and they might come for you”
They all climbed up in the jeap. Shazia numbed by the shock looked at the fading station gate.
It had started to snow. The snow slowly buried the small plants and flowers along with their love.
