David Fincher & “ The Curious case of Benjamin Button”

When someone’s resume starts with some rock video’s for the MTV generation, then takes on a super franchise like Aliens and then delivering a disillusioned sequel, you would imagine, that they would go back to making music videos.

The director then comes up a supremely and immaculately made movie called “Se7en” and stuck the then poster boy Brad Pitt in a grimly set, depressing setting – along with the magnificent Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. Yes, I am talking about one of my very favorite contemporary directors, who have developed a cult like following in the present times. – Mr. David Fincher. Everything from the credits rolling backwards to the BGM, and …

Not a Million Reasons for Slumdog Millionaire making Millions…

This post is dedicated to Kenny who urged me to quit complaining and write a bit.

Young, mid-twenties, blond haired woman: “Two for Slumdog.” Old white man in his Southern accent: “Hi, I would like four seniors for Slumdog Millionaire please.” I heard old, young, white, black, brown, most people in this long holiday line at an indie theatre in Pasadena chant for the latest “Danny Boyle” flick. What about Slumdog is different, is new, is so catchy that Hollywood is responding in such an unexpectedly devout manner? Is it A) Danny Boyle B) India C) Bollywood D) The new hip thing to do or E) All of the above. I wonder if Jamal Malik would get this answer exactly …

All Time Horror Movies to watch on DVD – (in case you missed)

Ok, I don’t know many who can actually enjoy and appreciate horror movies this is for them and as for all the other sane people, who don’t want to scared witless, well there’s always those cuddly rom-coms to go home to  . So hopefully this would be my first post of many to come on this wonderful website, where I spend increasing amounts of time, while – I am bored senseless writing up code on my computer. Yes, I am yet another disillusioned software engineer from the U.S – who’s a cine pile … to say the least.

Here it goes, I love rush and so naturally I have a leaning towards thrillers, horror movies, sci-fi. Especially …

Slumdog Millionaire

Except childhood portion, hyped & bit illogical at times. Many weaknesses are not expected in a film made by world famous director.

Slumdog Millionaire - Questions/Glaring hole?

Disclaimer: Please avoid this post if you haven’t seen the movie. If you have, come and join in the fun.

Quite a few questions came to my mind after watching the Slumdog millionaire. One thing followed to another and we(PFC authors) started debating on some of the things in the movie. The debate came to an interesting point and we thought of sharing it with everyone. It runs down as follows:

Tanul Thakur:
Just watched Slumdog Millinoaire. The first fifty minutes blew me apart. Absolutely brilliant execution. It is both exhilarating and breathtaking. But, after that the film kind of digresses and it became one of the movies that could have been. I have some questions,

-Since Jamal is a street guy, and as we all know the questions asked to him during the show was a part of his journey. And since he is a street boy(young is the point I want to stress), we …

Problems of “English” Slumdogs

Slumdog Millionaire Review Everyone seems to be going crazy on Slumdog. People are watching Free Screenings everywhere. Dany Boyle is all over NPR. Even KCRW is talking about it. NPR even had a segment on “HINGLISH” as a related Looks like FOX is backing it in a big way.
In next few days you’ll read a lot of great things about the film. And thats why I feel I must write this post & express the things that didn’t work for me. This is not a review of Slumdogs. Its mostly the issues I had with the film. And it mostly stems from a common problem of all such films.
I went into the film with a lot of anxiety. I have a major pet peeve when it comes to American/British directors come …

Slumdog Millionaire – Review

To what lengths would you go to get an autograph from a superstar actor? What all would you be willing to jump to get close, very close – in you face close – to a star that has sold you dream after dream after dream all your life? Jump from a chopper! Fly your family from Bay Area to Chicago and pay tons of money? Swim through a sewer??? Nah… the mentioned tasks are too easy if the superstar in question is Amitabh Bachchan. And Ladies and gentleman, of all the directors who have in some form or the other paid tribute to the Greatest Star of the Millennium – let me declare – Danny Boyle topped all of them and beat them with none even close! And that’s just one shot in Slumdog Millionaire.
Danny Boyle’s (Train spotting) latest is a story around how a boy …
