That one movie…

Inspired by the book meme that’s been making rounds, I have come up with a movie meme (quite creative, I know).

1. One movie that changed your life?
Drohkaal – As a college student, watching this awesome charectarization of Bhadra, and the discussion between Om Puri and Asish Vidyarthi (Nasser and Kamal in Tamil) gave me feverish sleepless moments of mental flossing for weeks.

2. One movie that you have seen more than once?
Finding Nemo – Besides the amazing water effects, Aussie accents (good day mate) and the fantastic Dory (Ellen DeGeneres did an awesome job), I love the whole parent-child relationship message that is subtly conveyed by the movie. I used to play it for Nemo when I watched it initially, but my 2 year old loves the stuff and makes me play Marlin now.

3. One movie you would want on a desert island?
Golmaal – Period. Exclamation mark!

4. One movie that made you cry?
Mukaddar Ka Sikandar – I was nine and I hated the idea of Amithab dying.

5. One movie that made you laugh?
Golmaal – Kesto Mukherjee asking Utpal Dutt “Tumhara bhatti kidhar hain?” Cracks me up everytime!!

6. One movie you wish had been made?
Bahadhur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal – Fall of a dynasty through the eyes of its last emperor. Written by Gulzar and Directed by Mani Rathnam.

7. One movie you wish had never been made?
Superman Returns – Christopher Reeve is THE Superman and Margot Kidder is THE Luis Lane. Period.

8. One movie you have watched recently?
The Departed

9. One movie you have been waiting to watch?
Motorcycle Dairies – Che Guevara’s formative years, what made Che become Che. Getting the DVD this week, finally!!

10. Tag the team.
Open to all PFCers. Pass it on.

@KK – Pulp Fiction, Maqbool, JBDY (!!!) f***ing awesome!! Memento is one smart movie (the remake Ghajini was a huge grosser in Tamil Nadu). But I liked Following much better – and waiting for the Prestige to come to Oz land.

@ HG – Satya is pure AK man! I really wish it was someone else other than that JDChakravarthy dude though.

Seriously ??? Movie on srinivasan ramanjunam (guys … long before passion for cinema, there was and still is a passion for maths)

Dev benegal ??? But then the biggest problem is that any movie on the genius may end up resembling Beautiful mind (russel crowe) ….

Ramanujan is one person on whom a film must be made !!!! The world (even the mathematical world) hasnt given the man his due …

    1. One movie that changed your life?
“The Hunger” starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. I had spent almost every weekend of my life in the theaters with my parents, or watching the old Sunday film festivals that used to play on television here – watching Hollywood film and the classics. I then did the typical Jr. High School movie tour, watching chick flicks and horror films. But, at 15 years old, a friend’s older sister took us to see this film, and it changed everything. It was arty. It was dark. It was beautiful. It was the first time I had seen such an effective use of music in a film, made all the more remarkable as the soundtrack incorporated the gothic, punk, and classical music that I loved in a mixture that made my music-loving head spin. It was sensual, it was everything I didn’t know a movie could be. And, it was the reason that at 15 years old, my friend Michelle and I turned our backs from most Hollywood film and became addicted to art-house films and foreign films, making us even geekier to our classmates than they already thought we were, but opening us both up to a world of cinema that shaped our adult persons through our adolescent viewing habits.

    2. One movie that you have seen more than once?
I am one of those people that buys movies so I can see them over and over again. But, the one movie I have seen more than any other is “The Goonies”. A classic from my adolescence. I say classic because my nieces love this movie, my friend’s children love this movie, and it seems that most every family owns a copy of this film, it plays on every holiday wherever I go and is on constant rotation at my mother’s house for the sake of the kids. That said, after more than 20 years, I am still not tired of this film.

    3. One movie you would want on a desert island?
Devdas. I can never tire of watching this film.

    4. One movie that made you cry?
“Afterglow”. I have seen this about 8 times, and it gets me every time. Julie Christie is truly one of the greatest actresses of our time…

    5. One movie that made you laugh?
“Dogma”. Another film I have seen numerous times and makes me laugh every time.

    6. One movie you wish had been made?
“They Call Him Machete” by Robert Rodriguez. He has the trailer already made, he now just needs to turn it into a film!

    7. One movie you wish had never been made?
Jurassic Park. Had it never been made I would have never walked out of it and not had to spend the next 13 years having to justify why I hate this film and why I don’t like Steven Spielberg and John Williams when they work together…

    8. One movie you have watched recently?
Last movie watched was “The Stink of Flesh”. Any other cinema lovers here who also like cheesy zombie films?

    9. One movie you have been waiting to watch?
Volver, the new Pedro Almodovar film. It is opening in New York and Los Angeles on November 3, and I am so excited that everyone is probably tiring of me talking about it…

    1. One movie that changed your life?
Main Azaad Hoon – I was moved by the sheer simplicity of the film as well as AB’s best&most powerful performance till date. The scene where he confornts the minister (Sudhir pandey) and his speech ends with “50 saal mein aap apne logon ko peeney ka paani nahin de sake…is a true picture of what India today has really become. This for me was the true Angry Young Man.This reflected the angst of the common indian man.

    2. One movie that you have seen more than once?
Actually being a movie freak..these would run in hundreds..but I would say… Sholay (actually also – bhrashtachar – for one select scene..heh heh)

    3. One movie you would want on a desert island?
Lamhe (but wat would I see it on? ;-) )

    4. One movie that made you cry?
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham ( for extremely personal reasons..its a chapter from my life – without K’Jos gloss ofcourse)

    5. One movie that made you laugh?
Hera Pheri & The Party( Peter sellers)

    6. One movie you wish had been made?
The Hindi/desi version of “The Clerks” or a film with the class of “Schindler’s List” based on the Godhra riots.

    7. One movie you wish had never been made?
any of shatrughan Sinha’s films, (also the english film – the hostel)

    8. One movie you have watched recently?
    Water. Absolutely brilliant.

    9. One movie you have been waiting to watch?
