The Box Office ka Raaz – Mr. Bhatt, Mr. Bhatt please teach me something!
While we all keep discussing DevD, Luck By Chance and Slumdog Millionaire – the box office never responds to people like us. If you see the Box office figures, you will come to the conclusions that the janta hardly cares for these films. But, then whom does the box office listen to? The Mystery continues…yes. Raaz by the bay! Sorry. Raaz by the way is declared (or self-declared) as the first Smash hit of 2009. On this, I want to ask 10 basic questions to Mr. Bhatt (Ahem.. any Bhatt for that matter: Vikram, Mahesh, Mukesh, Pooja or the extended family like Hashmi, Mohit Suri and many more)
How do you create a formula for a Hit film? I mean genuinely how come you churn out – hit after hit? 1920, Jannat and now Raaz. Have you mastered the art of knowing the pulse of Indian audience?
Why has Indian government given rights only to your production house, for importing the perfect music talent from neighboring countries?
Is any of your relative still left to make a debut on or off screen?
Does Emran Hashmi select the film based on music directors or the directors?
After Elaan, why dint you continue with Prabhuji? – The idea of Mithunda as villain is so smashing. Hats off to you guys!
Do you have a 4 film per year strategy? – one thriller, one horror, one romantic musical and one directed by a relative/cousin?
Does the patriarch of the Bhatt clan still direct, or is he too busy giving opinions to talk shows, news channels?
Have you signed a pact with Thailand government to give you concession for the shoots, the way Switzerland gives to some big studios?
Are the reports, of directors in your production house directing a film via telephone, really true?
And finally, of this list: which only includes your films from past 5 years, which one do you think is the best, or of this which is that one film that the critics applauded.
Raaz 2, 1920, Speed, Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee, Red, Ankahee, Deewane Huye Paagal, Jurm, Elaan, Awaarapan, Aetbaar, Inteha, Footpath, Awara Paagal Deewana, Raaz, Kasoor, Showbiz, Dhokha, Awarapan, Woh Lamhe, The Killer, Gangster, Murder, Footpath, Holiday, Filmstar, Paap, Kalyug, Nazar, Zeher (sorry if i have missed any!)
Oh by the way, did I forget to tell that nowadays I miss the fun of watching films like Daddy, Saransh, Arth, Ghulam and Zakhm. Bhatt that’s an era forgotten!

Good post my dear. They are out to do business and that what they are doing. To hell with quality and originality.
I havent watched a single Bhatt camp movie after i think “Kasoor”, and I never will watch their movie ever. They suck, hit or no hit, cant tolerate their movies. I hope they are paying the omnipresent “Hashmi”, whose only claim to fame is their movies. I dont know he has ever acted in any other movies besides the bhatt gang.
I haven’t seen all of those,
but gangster and woh lamhe were decent.
Very ill-informed post. The Author himself is confused with Vikram Bhatt and other bhatts.
The way author accuses Bhatt clan supporting family members is like no other person in industry does that.
1920, Speed, Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee, Red, Ankahee, Deewane Huye Paagal, Jurm, Elaan, Awaarapan, Aetbaar, Inteha, Footpath, Awara Paagal Deewana, were directed by Vikram Bhatt and not produced by Bhatts.
@ BALA:
Gangster was a nice movie with some Great music and acting from Kangana and Shiney .. But I think the credit shuld go to Anurag Basu instead of the Bhatts …
I am also waiting for Mahesh Bhat to don the director’s cap once more after Zakhm which was a master piece…
Vikram Bhat is a good for nothing CHOR … He cant make a descent movie in a lifetime .. Ghulam was good bcoz it has Aamir Khan in it .. Otherwise it would have been a dud ..
Gangster,Woh Lamhe,Dhokha,Jism(even though a copy) were good. There are certain things I like about the bhatts. They dont care about STARS.When they made Jism and Saaya with John no one knew about him.And I think Jism was John’s best performance till date.Same with Murder and Gangster. They all were made with unknown faces. This makes the Bhatt brand stand out.Another good thing about their films was that they were the first in Hindi masala films to portray grey characters for their leading men and ladies right from the days of “Arth”.
Not a direct response to this post, but I’ve posted an article on the main page which may act as a rebuttal or sorts.

Hardik, I do want to say though that I didn’t quite get the point of this rant. What’s wrong with importing singers from Bangladesh, Pakistan and other countries if they have great raw talent and can sing great songs? What’s the problem if the Bhatt’s shoot in Thailand? Was it equally wrong for Farhan Akhtar to shoot in Malaysia for Don, or was that somehow something different?
*
And I especially didn’t quite get the point of listing all their films. I’m sure they stand behind most of them, just like any other filmmaker would stand behind their own films.

Look man, I can understand it if you don’t like watching their films. Ok, so don’t. But if you’re writing against them at least have a valid point or two to argue from…
Awarapan, Jism, Murder, Kalyug, Jannat, Zeher, Gangster, Kasoor all these movies were good musical entertainer, I dont think they are only prducing shit in fact they are better than some of our so called big production houses, Bhatt camp has alwyas given chance to new talent. And you cant expect from evry production house to produce films like Dev D, Luck By Chance, Mumbai meri jaan etc.
vikram bhatt is NOT related to the bhatts. 1920 was a hit film cos it was made in moderate budget of 4 crs and made atleast 7 crs in first 5 days…wheras dev d had gross of 4 crs in 4 days after the budget almost touched 10 crs…i.e COP & prints, publicity, marketing evrythng else…
Vikram Bhatt is the son of Pravin Bhatt who was the cinematographer for Mahesh Bhatt in his earlier films. He is not related to Mahesh or Mukesh directly…but we are talking about the Bhatt camp and he is part of it through heirarchy not talent. If he wasn’t Pravins son he wouldn’t be part of the camp.
wasnt ZAKHM directed by pooja bhatt??
.
n i suppose mahesh bhatt directed DADDY n SARAANSH.
.
i wud forgive them for the rest of their movies just because of these 3!!
liked his Zakhm, Hum hain rahi pyaar ki, and Duplicate, I like his comedy style which are more situation based than just funny dialogues…
Zakhm is the last movie directed by Mahesh Bhatt.
And yes lets not link the movies made by Vikram Bhatt in the last 5 years with Vishesh Films.
Gony dhoni- Emran Hashmi has done movies like The Train,Awarapan,Good Boy Bad Boy,Aashiq Banaya Aapne,Aksar, Dil Diya Hai,Chocolate etc which are all not connected to Vishesh Films in any way.
and what exactly is the point of this article?
