The Fan is sick and tired.

I am THE hardcore movie fan. I am the fan that spends his hard earned money to buy a ticket and see a film. I am the Fan that goes to a multilplex with the same fervour as he goes to a single hall dingly theatre. That is why I am here. But the fan is pissed off. Like hell. It takes a lot of hard work to earn money and then to pay 500 bucks for a movie ticket shows passion. and what does the fan get in return - crap. The fan is sick of jargons - new wave, old wave, indie, cinefile, ffi, iifa, abc, xyz, - screw it all. The Fan doesnt care. The fan wants his movies crisp and tasty. And he is sick of being taken for granted. He is sick and tired and is raving and ranting…

The Fan is sick of shit being dished out: Recent hits - Hey Babyy and Dhamaal are insults in the name of movies. Heyyyy babbyyyee or however u spell it is absolute shit. Sajid Khan is a swine and an Ass***e. The moron has been given a bagfull of money on a platter by his friend, has friends in the right places to pull this off and makes a crapfest and calls it a movie. He copies blatantly from other films. And when he is asked on Tv as whether he has copied, the SOB says, “no - but there are reference points to other films” REFERENCE POINTS???? WTF!!!! This is the next word after inspiration, is it? Inder Kumar’s Dhamaal: has been declared a hit???? MFkr, the movie was a blatant copy of an American Film : Rat Race starring seth green and rowan atkinson. Scenes have been totally lifted - its a pure copy paste. And this film works? Am i mad or is the world going nuts? “Dil Dost etc”: Saw parts of it today: with due respect - its aweful. Its crap. How much money is the fan going to waste on such nonsense - if you see the average - for every 10 bad movies there is one decent movie so the Fan pays Rs.500x 11 movies watched= 5,500 bucks to see a good movie!!!

The Fan is sick of pretentious, sycophants hogging TV time thinking that the Fan is a fool - Farah Khan, Arjun Rampal, Sajid Khan, the entire Bachchan clan, Kareena Kapoor, konkana sen sharma, Sushmita sen, Mahesh Bhatt, Hritik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Ravi Kissen, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Khanna, etc - take a bow. The Fan is absolutely sick and tired of seeing you dish out crap on TV. We hate your TV attitude. Learn to give intelligent bytes for gods sake.

the fan is also tired of this endless mutual back-scratching. Unfortunately, the fan sees this backscratching slowly manifesting itself at PFC also.

The Fan is sick of this new wave vs old wave crap: There was no old wave and no new wave- there have only been good movies and bad movies. At the time of the parallel cinema movement, we heard the same stories, the same spiel…that time it was manmohan desai and prakash mehra and today its karan johar and yash chopra - they were called the big bad wolves who were dishing out senseless flicks. The Fan doesnt care a rats ass if yash chopra made a movie or shyam benegal made a movie. If the movie was good the Fan is going to see it. But for heaven’s sake stop running down the other guy!!! I see a lot of new age diectors at PFC writing about their experiences. I never see a karan johar or an adi chopra doing the same. Why? why are the so called new age movie makers running down these guys? Do you think that the film industry came up in the last 10 yrs? It came up 60 yrs back. And its because of this past that the new age film makers have a present! The present generation is reaping the fruits of what actors like AB, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, Shashi and Rishi Kapoor,Manoj Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff have done. Today’s new wave /new age filmmakers act as if these people are caricatures. If a movie sucks say it. But then half the new film makers acto so high and mighty that its revolting. Lets not forget films like home delivery, bas ek pal, shikhar, metro, shaka laka boom boom, Boom, ek khiladi ek hasina, zameen, karam, qayamat:city under threat, main aisa hi hoon, paisa vasool, Deewar - these are some of the great films that were directed/scripted/dialogue-d/screenplay written by the so called new age film makers. Lets do a reality check guys - if you can stand up to the plate and deliver, do so - otherwise stop trying to act pricey and behave like you invented cinema.

The Fan misses the old magic of movies: There were times when films were larger than life, when the marquee ruled, when films could run for weeks, film stars were stars - today the films are dissected, bissected, cut and dried long before then come out. Film stars are businessmen working on mega-crore deals. Films that get a 70-80% opening are called hits?? Are u fkn kidding with me? When will we get to see a silver jubilee hit yaar? When will we see an all India hit?

The Fan misses actors in movies: All we hear is that Hritik has signed a 50 crore deal, Akshay has signed a 30 crore deal, Bachchans are going on a world tour, SRK and group are going on a separate world tour, suniel shetty has launched his new company, Sanjay dutt has opened his 5 millionth company. when do we get to hear that someone has got an international award for acting?

The Fan hates RGV: RGV, his factory, his actresses and all his muscle bound heroes - please get the message - its over. We dont want to see anything that has remotely to do with you. Antara Mali, Nisha Kothari, Mohit ahlawat, Jiah Khan, Ajay devgan, Amitabh bachchan - RGV has done more harm than good. the Joke is over. The Fan isnt laughing. RGV, stop wasting money - please donate it to charity. The fan is sick to his gills with your shit

The Fan comes to PFC and sees so much passion for cinema, people writing about cinema left, right and centre, directors, actors, talented artists, movie-goers writing so much about good cinema, about brilliant cinema. The Fan still awaits this brilliant cinema. The Fan misses the magic of movies when he goes to a hall, the fan wants paisa vasool, the Fan wants to laugh and cry and cheer for films when he sits in the darkness of a cinema hall. the fan wants Chak de!, the Fan wants Manorama, the fan wants Swades, the Fan wants Main Hoon Na, the fan wants Guru, the fan wants satya, the fan wants Black Friday, the fan wants to be entertained. He doesnt want to be taken for a ride. He doesnt want to come to PFC and hear greatness talking..he wants to see it for himself. He has seen enough of broken promises in real life and cant take it any more.

Very cynical you are..but article is fine…subconciously i might second ur opinion.

The sentiment is totally justified. ‘New’ cinema does not necessarily mean that it is good. For all the rant against Yash Chopra, they did produce Chak De! And they have also produced Pradeep Sarkar’s next movie (Laaga Chunari main daag).

However, why on earth did the fan shell out Rs.500 to watch ‘hey baby’? Was the fact that it was directed by Sajid Khan not a good enough deterrent? Same with the Indra Kumar movie. The moment I see >=3 heroes in a film (one of them would invaribly be Tusshar Kapoor, Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan etc etc), I simply stop thinking about the movie. Keeps the crap out and helps maintain sanity.

    Wouldn’t agree with you more.
especially the ["the fan is also tired of this endless mutual back-scratching. Unfortunately, the fan sees this backscratching slowly manifesting itself at PFC also."] part

Hey man, read reviews first and save money. Delaying gratification never hurt anybody.

Also buy a DVD player. Worthwhile investment, I tell you.

    Cheers and keep the faith!!

Excellent!!! Brings back memories of the initial days of PFC… You’re a part of the original eighteen who built this platform. The fan demands your more active participation to keep things in balance here :)

The fan is no more a single entity. He has been divided and segeregated into “Multiplex fan”, “A center fan”, “Hindi belt fan”, “Bangalore-Chennai metro fan”, “Village fan” etc., Even the film makers go by these labels!! It is so common to see and hear some one say, ” I am making a multiplex movie”. WTF? you are making a movie period. You are not a stupid computer programmer to say “I am writing a JAVA program”. You are a freaking film maker. Be proud and say I am telling a story, telling an Indian story. Someone like Sajid saying his film collected so much in metros ought to be ashamed and be careful as tomorrow might be a day when his films just collects egg shells and rotten tomatoes. The creativity has gone out of the windows. PPl are paying homages and tributes so much these days to their film masters, the have gotta be careful as their films will not be inspirational any time.

    sophocles,
stop watching hindi movies.Watch only the best in theater and absolutely no-no on VCR and DVD’s. My pick in last one year was Chak De, Eklavya( Yeah I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and its soundtrack was one of the best of 2007). Thats it 2 films in theater. Nothing else and I am very happy not to waste time on any other crap. I did not see Black Friday use it did not release in mid-west USA and I absolutely hate torrent/You tube to watch movies.

In the same period I have enjoted world cinema. The very best of hollywood and European cinema at cinema hall as well as dvd and I am the happiest. The fact is that 99% of bollywood and its people are hopeless, inapt, copycats.

Reading and commenting on PFC is far more entertaining then watching *sick* bollywood offerings.

are remakes of other language movies that bad (case in point of dhamaal)? the credits should not go to director/ writer but atleast the audience gets to see good films (assuming that the remake is of originally a good film)… i dont catch up much on other language movies so a good remake is always welcome…

  14. The Narcisist on October 1st, 2007 2:02 am

Watch out for a spurt of regional language remakes in the near future. Bhool Bhulaiya is a remake of the Rajani starrer Chandramukhi (Tamil). Aamir is working on a remake of another tamil film, Gajini, which in turn was a badly handled rehash of Christopher Nolan’s seminal Memento. And after much fanfare down south about YRF and Chota Bachchan being interested in its hindi avatar, the director and lead actor of the cult telugu hit Pokiri are out to remake it in hindi (dunno how that’s gonna space out but don’t see the lead scoring a lot of brownie points with the bollywood audience).

  15. Machchar on October 11th, 2007 12:11 am

bhaisaab, joh main barso sey keh raha hu, same thing!

Why doesn’t some billionaire passionate cinema lover start a fund for Indian cinema, buy camera’s and equipment and give it for free to anyone who has a good project, shoot the whole thing and share the profits with the team?

  16. abhi on December 20th, 2007 9:15 pm

You might be surprised, but it is not just braindead fans but also millions of pissed off fans like you who help the useless rowdies making cinema in earning big money.

You goto watch a film and come back cursing. Dont you have any idea what a film will look like beforehand based on your expereince, or find a review from a good source before contributing money for their children’s welfare fund?

Do you think cinemas are being made inside some university? It is business- all sorts of nincompoops are there to make a killing. They dont give a fart what the ‘fans’ feel like, as long as the money is coming in.

In my opinion the secret of success of movies is this. There is nothing creative happening. Most creative-looking stuff is stolen from abroad. Yet, the new age fan, who is earning a lot of money (doing some equally dull work) needs to spend his money. That is where the cinema maker steps in. You have no choice but to give him your money no matter how mediocre his fare. This is evident everywhere- not just movies, but music, TV, tourism, literature, politics, education. Everything is mediocre. But we have no choice. Admittedly, creativity is not easy. even hollywood movies are mostly rehashed cliched uinspiring crap.

If you want creativity, create it. That will give you satisfaction. I did it myself, in some measure. Running around like ‘headless chicken’ from one theater to another looking for great stuff to amuse me- I left this pastime long back. Stop encouraging these thugs with your grudge money.
