The Forest - a sneak preview of my new film

Be the first to see a sneak preview trailer of The Forest, coming soon to theatres around the world. You can watch it on facebook or youtube

The Forest is a grizzly thriller about human frailty articulated through man’s conflict with nature; our inadequacies when confronted by such forces and our frightening ignorance as to the effects of its disruption.

Ashwin… cool promo. Maybe I am umping the gun but does’nt it give out a lot of the story??? Correct me if I am wrong here…

Hi Ravptor. Yes, you are right. It does give more than it should. Two reasons, first this is not the final theatrical promo which will be more teasing and less expository. Second, this is for distributors and the industry. Its more a promo less a trailer. If you see my meaning. I am obliged to ’show’ more of the film in this version.

I hate trailers that tell me the story of the film - I am the kind of guy that reads the first and last para of any film review, and when I read a critic who’s taste I vibe with, I just want to know if I should go and see the film or not, I don’t want to hear his version of what the story is about - I want to have as virginal an experience as possible.

There is much more to The Forest than what you see in that trailer. The themes touched upon are just the broadstrokes - so even with this level of exposition, I don’t think its a spoiler.

It is grown up Julfiquar Ali. I wrote the part specially for him after Little Terrorist and made him Jaaved’s son. He is a wonderfully gifted actor with very little behind him - he lives in Saalam Baalak Trust for homless children. I think he’s a real talent and have written a part specially for him in Kashimir, my new one.

“They learn to think like us”
That line somehow bothered me. The way the dialogue was spoken :)
It definitely gives away a lot. Its soo good to see people using Javed Jaffrey in good roles. He is such a explosive talent. Stereotyping him as dancer/comedian has deprived us of so many great roles he could have done. The last good role he did was Fire. His cameo in Salam Namestey was rocking though.

I’m excited to see Ankur again on screen. I have so badly wanted him to succeed after watching him in those Ismat/Manto plays. You should read my review of his last film Missed Call for which I got panned across the board for being a bit critical to the symbol of Indie/experimetal film-making of Bombay.

Ashvin you gotta write about how to get funded in Europe. Another name that comes to my mind is Pal Nalin. Have you seen his VALLEY OF FLOWERS? He also gets funded abroad I think & makes his kind of cinema.

AMERICAN FILM MARKET is happening in Santa Monica soon. You should bring your film there.

    cheers

I got to see this trailor at a very unusual place. The homepage of bedi brothers of Wildlife Photography fame. The promo does look good but I will reserve my openion till we get to see the movie. Is it going to be released in India or largely focussing on NRI / Western audiance?
I read somewhere that it’s going to be released in Fall 2006. What happened here??

  21. Diwakar on October 25th, 2007 4:28 am

Hey what’s the progress on your Road to Laddakh??

  22. Ashvin Kumar on October 25th, 2007 4:33 am

Not unusual at all. Bedi Brothers did the wildlife photography for the film.
