The best way to fuck a man or a woman is when he/she is down or defenseless.

Manish Jha made his name after he got acclaim at Cannes for a short film called A very very silent film. It has a woman so poor she lives on the pavement. She covers herself with a gunni bag in which she collects garbage in the day. That whole night men keep coming inside the gunni bag seeing a lonely woman and keep raping her. Sometime in the morning one of the men discovers she is dead. He goes his own way, and a local constable seeing a lonely woman comes and rapes her not knowing she is dead.

How can a society be so full of apathy we all wonder and shake our heads.

We may shake our heads in sadness, but we are all the same. No one gives anyone a chance when one is down, but the minute he delivers cumulative tongues come out for a collective ass licking.

It’s at its peak when it comes to films.

The world would lie prostrate in front of Sooraj Barjatya when he gave hits after hits redefining box office history. The minute he gave a box office dud, even a bug on the street came out to hit bricks on his face questioning his filmmaking, his lack of public appearances, his style, his storytelling. Today he gives a Vivaah, tongues are out.

Pavan Kaul did not have a hit in Shhh, today he is making his next film and writing a blog, since he doesn’t have an amour of A list stars in his rooster he is an easy target, so take out every egg you have in the basket and hit him, he has even been called a copycat wannabe for blogging on PFC, tomorrow he gives a hit, every ass-licking tongue will be out taking a procession.

Look at our very own Anurag, known for speaking his mind, hell if I was in his place I would have killed someone by now out off frustration, three films in the cans, not one out. Over the years they called him ‘jinxed, an asshole for having a big mouth, a two-bit talent who makes arty films, which in any case no one would see, so it’s a good thing his films haven’t released!’ Today he is making his film, which god willing will reap in lots of money and accolades, today he has John Abraham in his film, who is now in the A list, creating an amour for our talented friend, today Anurag is the flavour of the season. I’m sure Anurag has to stuff his face from laughing out loud or throwing up in disgust at the whole two faced nature of the game. I’m so happy that its payback time for him.

It wasn’t long ago when John was still proving himself, he was cast in Karam, hats off to the man, with complete humility he tells the producer and director of the film that this is a solo film and he hasn’t had a hit yet, so make sure we take a heroine who isn’t new, he was even willing to take a pay cut so that the film would be made the way director Sanjay F Gupta saw it. Today he is reaping the rewards, because in the industry no one forgets. He too was fucked left right and center, called a wooden actor with long air, a no show at the BO, some BO pundits even suggested that he change his name! When his bike accident happened, instead of asking him if he was okay, the media crucified him, though the accident wasn’t even his fault! Today after he has been proving himself we see tongues everywhere!

They hauled Amitabh Bachchan over coals post Mriyudatta, writing his career obituary, but I guess it was nothing new to him, they wrote his career obituary until he gave his first hit. They did the same to Abhishek Bachchan. Today? It’s a whole new story!

Hrithik Roshan was called a one-film wonder like Kumar Gaurav until Koi Mil Gaya happened. Then when Lakshya wasn’t a huge hit they said he could only give a hit with his father! Is there really any question of his credibility as a brilliant actor or performer at the box office?

Today Yash Raj is the biggest conglomerate possible. 15 years ago they asked Yash Chopra to retire when he made the superlative Lamhe. He went beyond the stereotype and they kept hollering until he made a ‘safe’ superhit Chandini, and the rest is history, just imagine if we lived in a world where they would carry him on their shoulders for making a Lamhe? No wonder Aditya Chopra shuns interacting with anyone. His revenge? He made a film that is still running at the box-office, has made Yashraj the biggest player in the market and now he is making Kabul Express. I pray with every fucking pore of my body that it works, so that Yashraj which has the capability to make 10 Kabul Expresses a year continues to do so. We will finally be able to see the kind of range our filmmakers possess. Industry legend goes that it was Aditya Chopra’s idea of turning the wheels of change and giving us Hindi cinemas first psycho lover with SRK in Darr.

Karan Johar tries something different, everyone comes out and crucifies him, I’m not even defending KANK, but the kind of jabs he gets are outright hilarious ‘People watch your films, you should be more responsible!’. I mean for fucks sake, KANK doesn’t tell people to go out and have affairs!

Vishal Bharadwaj makes Omkara a film that makes me HATE HIM, makes me so insanely jealous of his brilliance that I wanna kill him for making such a marvellous poetic work of art. But what I hate more is when a bunch of industry guys instead of laying out the red carpet for him tell him faults in his screenplay that too in a public forum!

Right now everyone is pissing on RamGopal Varma because he has been giving flops as a producer and made a bad Shiva! The same RGV has made Rangeela, Shiva, Satya, Company, Money Money, Kshna Kshnam, Raat and produced Shool, My wifes murder, Main Madhuri Dixt.., Ek Haseena Thi, D, Love Ke Liye, Ab Tak Chappan etc. He has given has technicians like Shriram Raghavan, Shimin Amin, Anurag Kayshab, Saurabh Shukla, Hemant Chaturvedi, Sandeep Chowta, Chandan Arora, Jaideep Sahni, Aftab Shivdasani, Vivek Oberoi,Koena Mitra, he resurrected Fardeen, gave a new image to Saif, made Urmila, got back Isha Koppiker discovered Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav and numerable new talents as technicians and actors. He created a cinematic language we draw upon. But today he is down, so fuck him, fuck him good!

I&B Ministry says don’t show smoking on screen as people are drawn to smoking because of films! Wake up dude! People have been smoking for hundreds of years, filmmaking is just 125 years old! But hey fuck a guy who can’t hit back.

A lady professor in St Xavier’s took out a PIL against HBO and Star movies saying they are showing A rated movies. Her rationale, children will get spoilt. Last 4 months Bombay doesn’t have those two movie channels.
I have a question. ARE THESE CHILDRENS ORPHANS? Or their parents don’t have any control on them? Secondly, HOW does watching an adult film spoil a child? Do kids go out and kill rape loot and plunder watching an adult film?

But because films are an easy target so fuck a man when he is down!

I made Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena that didn’t work at the box-office, so fuck me every chance you get, make every snide comment you can make, and do everything to break my spirit.

Just because a man is down doesn’t justify screwing him over again and again while you wait for him to get up to laugh in your face while you get busy licking his ass.

Because scars remain.

Anurag carries the burden of a screwed up liver! I’m lucky to only have lost my hair! Everyone in this profession carries their scars. We watch a film like Lage Raho Munnabhai, maybe we should take a lesson from it.

Just getting a film made in the FIRST PLACE is like an impossible battle, the judgment is instant, whether you are a victor or a loser, but remember no one sets out to make a bad film. If one day you don’t like the food you don’t kill the cook.

In other professions we work hard, get a bonus at the end of the year, maybe a promotion and a job safety unless we choose to leave it or get really crappy at work.

As a filmmaker we work in an office made of glass, but don’t make our failures a public orgy.

    Fire is ozing out of the words. I second every thought you wrote.

    Only one point because “film” demands attention from public so thatmay be the reason that films are criticized in public. India is facing a transition phase. Public sing praises of Sachin when he hits a century but in third match public become ready to shout against him if he does not deliver. Public is crying foul for politicians also. Public is becoming more and more demanding.
    Its now up to individual how far one wish to take this pressure.

    RK, Which is my point buddy, you put people on unrealistic pedestals and then drag them down like their are puppets. a politician is elected by us so when he fails to deliver I say strip him and flog him. but artists and sportsmen are fighting with themselves to excel in anycase, and die a 1000 deaths when they dont deliver, so why shout at them instead of using a lil used emotion called love and being there for them, supporting them. gandhigiri goes a long way

    The post was awesome. The angst – is pure and raw and ..it shows. I must admit,Suparn, that this is true in every profession – people put you on the pedastal the moment you give a hit and then the swords are out – seeking and waiting to see you fall. And heaven help you if you fail…as you rightly said, you are crucified. Its as if people get this sadistic pleasure in seeing you fail. Irrelevent people with mypopic vision actually have the balls to question a product that comes after months or years of sheer hardwork and determination and pure, unbridled passion for one’s field.

    I would like to remind everyone of a scene from Ridley Scott’s gladiator – when maximus is cleaving open the wound on his shoulder. A painful task but one that is essential to keep reminding him of what he has been through.

    Suparn, Anurag and to the rest of the readers of PFC – this is a heartfelt comment – Never forget what you have endured and never forget the moments of hopelessness and despair – and also – never forget or forgive those who have crucified you – when the world kisses your feet, those moments will remind you of the true face of life. Let your despair and the hurt and the pain be the fodder for your dreams.

    thanks for that. it was not target at you, though. i just wanted people who were making some comments on RGV, to read your article carefully cos you have made very good points!

    anyway, i would be the first one to admit that i have affronted everyone you have mentioned but RGV. but the difference is I have never had any respect for them or appreciated their work. Is that wrong?

    people have told me that you should respect all them cos they have put some hard work into it – but I always say what about the people who have worked hard at making good innovative films but they are not seen or heard anyhwere?

    good or bad, i’m gonna watch a ramu movie in a theater first day first show if possible. even for a film like ‘james’ the theater here in washington was playing it, but when i went there on a wednesday evening with 3 other friends, the people at the theater told me that they didn’t have any public for the screening, and they can only have a screening if there’s at least 10 people. for the next half an hour, i kept trying to call up friends just so i could get 10 people and we could watch this movie at the theater. didn’t happen. but that’s just to show the extent of my appreciation for ramu’s movies. i didn’t know who mohit or nisha were at the time, and i didn’t care. i knew that if ramu picked them, there must be something about them.. unfortunately, i still don’t see it…

    i know ramu’s off his track now, but i’m just waiting for the day when he makes a comeback and shuts people up. honestly don’t know if sholay will be it though..

    i’ve only heard about anurag’s work.. haven’t been fortunate enough to see it yet (missed his visit to washDC), but have seen bits ‘n pieces of it online somewhere and needless to say, i’m looking forward to it.

    good post suparn. do you have a next film in the pipeline yourself? must admit i was a fan of the technical sides of EKEH more than its story. the way it was shot, its sleekness, stylishness etc all stood out for me more than the story itself. actually, the songs are worth a mention too.. oh, and thank you for taking kay kay! =D>

    Suparn, your post reminds of me of Mel Brookes “History of the world” In the movie he had rightly showed that critics were born b4 appreciators.

    Remember the very early scene in which a caveman draws a nice caricature on the cave and in comes the critics.

    He pick ups the caves-uit & pisses all over the painting. The painter can only watch piss coming out of critics dick.

    Lot of irony in that but 100% truth in it.

    Sucess is again a relative thing. How do you define it? For me making a film in once lifetime is nothing short of sucess. Do these people know, what it takes to make a film? How passionate the film makers are? Its easy to do 8 to 5 job and comment on the commercial sucess or failures. Film makers have to sacrifice so many things in life, remain tightly focused, fight against all the odds in making a film. There are even more number of people, who can not even acheive the distinction of making a film. Yet they try! I would even term them as succesful. Atleast they have guts to take on life!

    I’ve been recommending Chhal at every given opportunity, but it also saddens me to see how few people have seen it or heard of it. On the flip side, I’ve been guilty of slamming films — I remember your kind note on my long post trashing EKEH; a very humbling and enlightening moment. I hope your enthusiasm to make films never wanes come what may. :) >-

    Hopefully, a forum like PFC offers an outlet for filmmakers like you to share ideas and experiences and for people like us to understand more about the filmmaking process (something that’s so accessible in places like the USA but not as much in India).

    Re RGV: After adoring his cinematic brilliance in Shiva, Rangila, Satya, Company, Raat ( D, sarkar, Naach in patches) and his other products like EHT,AT56 etc I have observed that he shows no mercy while discussing other’s work or kind of cinema.
    Any interview and he would strip down Karan Joahr and his kind of films. Why? Karan is making his kinds of films as RGV is making.

    Perhaps one has to be very carefull while dealing the case of RGV. His attitude” take it or f**k off” is responsible for his own criticism to some extent. Its less to do with his cinema.

    Moreover few people(including me) who loved his cinema cant praise his third class present cinema because its done by RGV. If he gets praise for his low standard work then it will be unjustice to his kind of talent. Though he is kind of person who dont get affected by praise or crticism. But when a person goes in multiplex after spending 150 Rs under the impression that this is great RGV’s product and find there chalu product like new shiva, james, darna mana hai ya jaruri hai, Vastu shastra etc then his anger is justified. People have adored RGV and cant see him degrading. They are waiting for the film where he shows his magic again. Till its matter between his fans and him I think matter is justified. We feel anger because we liked him to high level.

    How people can show mercy to cinema of Khalid Mohammad (Fiza, Silsilay) when years he raped films, stars in his weekly column in TOI and that too with biased approach. Come on Jacky Shrof was not mere carbon copy of Dev Anand and neither he was like a stick in his first two films. Give atleast 2 chances to a new comer and then start attacking them. While on sick bed Jacky will be better actor than Khalid Mohammad (if he ever tries to do acting).
    Another player in criticising cinema in India is Naseeruddin Shah( with all due respect to him and being great admirere of his acting talents). Years he shouted that what kind of films our directors are making. I give him benefit of doubt that given his powerhouse of talent he did not get kinds of challenging roles he was aspiring for, but in the same Industry Amitabh Bachchan has been doing different roles with happiness, Om Puri has been doing. Paresh Rawal is seen in different roles. And then Naseer saab made yun hota to kaisa hota. Is this that quality film for which he was always shouting from roof top. But its his very first directorial venture so we should not crticise him. He also deserve atleast second directorial chance.
    But one factor is always there that when one crticises others continuously then s/he should be ready for same crticism from others.

    KK: do you believe in this story that Guru datt committed suicide because of failure of KKPhool? It was made and relased in 1959 and he died in 1964 and between that period he produced two profitable films Chohadvain ka chand, Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam (he directed later but did not put his name as main director) and he acted in atleast 6-7 films and most of them were successful films on box office. His son’s book, his wife’s account and his friends accounts dont confirm these things that he committed suicide. He was going to meet Geeta Datt his wife next day when he was found dead. He might have felt depressed when KKPhool was flopped but he himself admitted about some lackings in the film in those days interviews. This is later days facts that we consider this film as classic like many other films which were flopped at BO in first screening.
    His family, and close friends know more than anyoneelse and according to all of them it was an accident of overdose of sleeping pills.

    do you think all people working in film industry are there because they have love and passion towards Cinema or film making? Various star sone and daughters- are there becasue they love cinema or because this is an easy field to earn more money because thier parents have earn credibility in that field and star sons and daughters can ride over that horse easily. Its very difficult to make same kind of money, fame with that kind of hard work. Like any field very few people should be there who really love cinema and have passion. rest is crowd of common men who by chance are there thats why every film is not great and even Factory of RGV is not able to optimize the process of film making and Factory’s product differ in terms of quality unlike a real factory where we set some parameters and every product comes out have a fix standard of quality.
    These all Miss Indias, Miss Universe etc and Models are there in films because they love cinema? or becasue its relatively easy job for them to enter. Do we have more than 25 people in film Industry who will make only film even if they dont have any other means for living?
    Various actors who are far better than those getting films have been struggling in theaters in small cities. What do you think?

    Is not it like RGV showed in Rangila when Urmila sees that famous actress cant do a simple dance steps and she knows that she can do better than this actress but because she is nobody so she cant express her desire. Farah Khan got her debut in Jo Jeeta wohi sikandar with same story. She was assisting famous dance director and farah was feeling that she could do better than this choreographer and Farah gave us that “Pehla Nasha”.
    Moreover who is attacking film makers as Supran is mentioning. Filmi people are doing it with each other. so who is culprit?

    “chouhadveen ka chhand ho” which is the only coloured thing in the entire B&W film.

    About S B Aur Ghulam, its said that he directed this film but gave name of Abrar Alvi as director. Abrar was with GuruDatt till 1.30 AM the day Guru Datt died. His death is another mysterious story which prevails about celebrities. His post mortam report does not reach any clear conclusions whether it was heart failure or lethal combination of alcohol and sleeping pills.
    Account of his last day does not suggest it was suicide.

    Whatever truth is he died and we lost one of the best director of cinema

    all RGV fans can look forward to his forthcoming films like “nishabd” and “darling”(apart from rgv ke sholay)…both films releasing early next year, rgv will surely come back to form…rgv doesnt make films for critics, money, etc…like we guys at PFC have the passion to talk about cinema, he has the passion to make them! some experiments have failed though, but atleast he has the guts to do something different and offer a new concept for cinema buffs who want to see something new and different! he was the first to bring in short stories in a film concept with darna mana hai and darna zaroori hai…now we have sanjay gupta’s dus kahaniyan, nikhil advani’s salam-e-ishq, etc…i hope RGV continues with his darna series…read somewhere that he will announce one next year titled “darna bekar hai” or “darna mangta hai”…

    The film industry is so weird, where u will find all kinds of people. The star kids, models etc u talked about r indeed passionate about films at different levels. I had a chance to know Sunny Deol. I found him very honest towards his profession. His first directorial ‘Dilagi’ I think it was did not do well. He loves cinema. But from outside world we get different impression. The model, star kids, etc have to prove themselves every Friday on Box office. They have the most risky career. In order to sustain ur career in films u got to be passionate!I think constructive critism is a must. If a big star/director sheds the ego and pays attention to the critism, tries to find out what is he doing wrong he would regain his lost touch. The same goes for someone as brilliant as RGV. Because of ego clashes big money involved the kind of critism happens to be hitting under the belt.

    Not only film industry every industry is weird. As far as India is concerned we dont get people working in an area in which they have true fascination and this must be true to Film Industry also. If risk is there then money is relatively very high in comparison to the work. Where you will find such collection in thre days as Nu has written yesterday(Dhoom 2). Money glamour and fame, these three things are biggest attraction for so many people either present in film industry or entertainment field or want to join it. Same kind of fame and money you cant get in any other field. and for star sons and daughters, so many things are relatively easy. For Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra it should have been passion to work only in films but same cant be said about Abhishek, Sunny or Bobby. This is also true that they learn something since childhood because they watch their parents but its more like following tradition and less to do with passion. This is different matter that if one has screen presence then an average acting skill can be obtained by practise and improvisation. Thats why few actors can deliver good only when a able director is handling them. Like everybody can write one story or few story but its not necessary he can be a author of passion and in same way anyone can become actor but not necessarily he can become an ace actor and actor with passion. If one plays a game then regular practice and passion can imporove his game to a large extent but this factor is missing in case of majority of actors. As Dev Anand once said ” I wanted to become somebody so I left Lahore and came to bombay”. Without taking names we can see lot of examples who are there because they are familiar to that enviornment. Obviosuly they can do better business there but not necessarily they have pssion for cinema. If passion is there then failure cant stop one e.g.Dev Anand but Kumar Gaurav did not show that passion and did not continue in films. He may not have market value but if he has passion he will make films. Films are not only acting. Suneil Anand is failed as an actor but he tried to make his own film Master. Few stars sons, daughters may find it easy to join this business. Why this does not happen in film Industry that Star Sons and Daughters are fighting with their parents that they dont want to join film industry as we see in every other filed where children fight with parents that they dont want to continue their profession? Today SRK says that film Industry is risky and he says perhaps his son will do something else, but I am sure like any other star sons if he is not extra ordinary in any other field he will join film indistry like several star sons have done in past. To be a politician and actor/director you dont have to get high degree education. a high school pass actor can be as good as post graduate. A person gain wt to prepare for IIT JEE, later he again sits on chair for atleast 6 months to crack IIM CAT, he gets job but he is not popular, he is also in cue to watch a film or to get autograph of a star and so this glamour attracts.
    Incidently we dont find such attraction of glamourous life in developed part of europe because they dont have centralized film industry, and life there has reached to a certain standard and everybody is enjoying that standard level of living so they enjoy what they like to do. But in India a small kid is dancing after watchinh boogey woogey because he thinks this is something which will make him important in future.Children’s grasping power is minute and they watch that their parents are just fascinated by stars so they want to become one. There is huge gap in standard of living here in India.
    Entertainment industry is huge these days and TV has added lot of man power consumption in this area and this is reason that now this is like any other professsion where one can earn bread and butter and as pasion is limited to very few in any field, its limited to very few people in film industry also. Yes as they are in industry they have to make film because thats their bread and butter so show goes on and on.

    As for Karam and its similarities to Kill Bill, I think thats more a matter of directorial style rather than writing itself. I may be wrong here. The story had nothing to do with Kill Bill, which itself didnt really have a story per say. It was a character driven piece.

    Chhal is a film i really liked, although throughout the film, it always felt like a combo of Donnie Brasco and Droh Kaal. The plot was clearly reminiscent of Donnie Brasco (i.e. Cop infiltrating the underworld, then developing a friendship with a gangster who then becomes dispensible – Just like the Johnny Depp-Al Pacino relationship in DB). Certain character nuances like the relationship between Kay Kay and his supervisor reminded me of Droh Kaal.

    hmmm interesting topic. i think it all comes down to whether society lowers/discourages a man from trying stuff. i feel that it depends more on the person and some might take it as a huge disappointing thing/discouragement while others would take it as an encouragement (altho at the same time, id say that its very difficult to take criticisms encouragingly).i think its perfectly justified to fuck people. what i basically mean is that if 1 has made a bad movie it can/should be criticised. the problem probably rises when instead of the product the maker is criticised/praised (the best example probably “James” getting a 4-star by Nikhat Kazmi on TOI and if i rem correctly comparing the director with Steven Sorderburg/QT).
    Another thing is about the sensiblities of the maker/reviewer. every person views a movie with his perspective/sensibilites which i think influences the reviewer and hence “Fight Club”(Ed Norton/Brad Pitt) is hailed as an amazing movie by some and trashed by some and hence probably it is imp to take critisisms seriously only when coming from proper sources.
    1 more thing id like to add is that i dont think theres any complete originality as we are all influenced by stuff(other movies/real life incidents etc.) and that shapes our style but then again probably the level of ‘inspiration’ defines ‘originality’.

    This was one of Urmila’s most convincing and controlled performances… The last time i enjoyed her thoroughly before this was in ‘Bhoot’ and ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’.

    Although the story wasn’t new, the direction was interesting and Sreeraam Raghavan showed promise and it is quite sad to see new directors dissapearing into the oblivion when their films dont do well.

    Famous Punjabi comedian Bhagwant Mann once joked (translated to English) it takes a whole lot of people, a whole lot of, money, energy, committment and so much time to make a film, and yet a person who did nothing for it but spend a few hours watching it for their own entertainment can very easily say “It was ok but it didn’t really do it for me” (”Oh gal nahin bani yaar”)…

    Suparn I’ve commented before that EKEH was a damn slick flick film, very well directed (such an upmarket look on such a tight budget). I’ve got it (and Chhal) on DVD. My only critiscm of the film remains, and I’ll pose it as a question, don’t you feel you needed a stronger actress to play the female lead considering it was a title part?

    Oh really? That’s unfortunate, because I think, given the title and theme of the film, had there been a female lead who could’ve headlined the film with Fardeen, I’m sure the audiences would’ve come in bigger numbers. Not to rub it in, but Bipasha/Fardeen would’ve rocked in EKEH.

    I’ve always rooted for underdog, maverick films and makers. I’m not saying this because I’m communicating with you, but I was genuinely excited by the EKEH promos, theme and especially the ensemble starcast (thought Fardeen was in a role that suited his suave persona, and have always thought Mukul Dev was a talented performer with potential, and of course the amazing Kay Kay Menon).

    I genuinely wish the film was a bigger hit. In fact I think the industry needs more medium budget, ensemble cast films to work in order to break away from the star mentality. Be it Dor, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Apna Sapna Money Money or other films which fit into this mould, I think more of them becoming successful is a promising trend. Lets hope it sustains.

    This is why I hope you’ve still got the same drive and conviction to make more such films. You’ve got what it takes as a writer (proven that with Chhal, Zameen, Karam) and a director (EKEH) to carve a place for yourself.

    Don’t let the type of people you’re talked about in this article bring you down. Your talent will be recognized. It needs to be.

    I empathize with the spirit of your post. Although my only contribution to any creative profession has been restricted to paying for the price of the ticket, I do relate to the fact that there’s little encouragement available when you’re struggling with your worst possible demons. That happens in any profession.

    However, I cannot offer any sympathies to your own particular situation with Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina. I understand that that was not the point of this post, but if you expect the bystanders to lend a shoulder to you when you’re down, you better provide an honest body of work, not inspired versions of inferior Hollywood movies. EKEH was a copy of Confidence, which in itself wasn’t exactly a piece of art. On the other hand, I thought Chhal was brilliant. So you probably have what it takes, but if you want my vote, please stick to your originality. I mean, from a paisa-vasool spectator’s point of view, I would gladly shell out $10 for Chhal over Confidence, any day.

    And critics do count, suparn.Roosevelt cannot be our ideal.He is a person of different genre and time.He was a creative man or say an intellectual in power(but doesnt stand alongside Jafferson and Lincoln ).He belongs to an era when uncle Sam was in the process of making.Great preacher…. great conversationist and wht not ….. But people loved him for entirely different reasons.Dont forget the Panama Canal and Russo-Jerman war.

    Anyways, I dont know about film people but people from other medium do need critics to know themselves better.A creative product is always a product of collective effort.Thts why we need them.A critic is the interface between u and ur target audience.Its always a pleasure listening to an honest critic’s take. How boring ur life would be if there is no critic of urs…..If intention is malicious …. i have nothing to say….

    Even though you are right about most of the things you said in your article, I just can’t feel for you man. Because you dissapointed us big time. You sold out. We had high hopes on you. You were one of us. After writing reviews for years one would expect someone to make a little more meaningful/better film. But I’m not you & maybe I would have taken the money too if i were u. The positive way for me to look at your situation is I think You made that film just to get ur foot in the game. Once u r in you will make what u feel passionately about. I’m eagerly waiting for that. You have to payback.

    Success & happiness & stuff like that is very relative. Manjeet is bang on about it. For some people just making a film is the biggest success. So u made it Suparn. But its good to know that u are frustrated & dying to fight back. Hope something good comes out next time.
