The Host

The host is Godzilla kind of film. a monster film. as a premise for the appearance of the monster the first scene shows some dangerous chemical being flushed in the han river. so now you have an idea that what this film has to offer. but let me warn you it is nothing like near that. yes, there is a monster but film has much more to show you.
film engages three generations of a family grandfather, his two sons one daughter and one grand daughter from elder son who’s wife has left him. because he is good for nothing. he runs a snack shop by the river. he chears up his sister watching a match of her on the tv. she is an amateur archer. he is slack but cares about his loved ones. by now you have the feeling that although it is a monster movie, with this kind of lead it is going to be fun. it is fun indeed.
monster shows up for the first time at the bank of the river near the dad’s snack shop. it creates chaos among people. people are running everywhere, our duo of dad and daughter also running to save themselves from the monster. but in this hustle and bustle daughter is left behind. by the time dad notices this and look to search her. she is grabbed by the monster and dragged underwater.
this sight of monster created wave in seoul and administration got itself busy with searching for the cause and cure of it. as a security measure family of all the people who witnessed the incident are detained. government thinks that may be exposure to monster could have infected them with some virus. as this is only speculation and nothing concrete is being done. our family is also here grand dad, his other son and his amateur archer daughter. at this time dad receive the call from the girl that she is in some underground sewer where monster has left her.
after the call our family is in full swing to save the daughter from the monster. but for that first they had to escape from the hospital . and not only that they have to fight bureaucracy and military also. on the other hand daughter herself tries to escape from the custody of the monster. soon she is joined by a boy left there by monster. they both try to figure the way out from the huge net of concrete as sewer and bridge over han river.
this film packs a lot of unexpected punch. and the maximun of it will come out in laughter. film is funny. and supremely entertaining. there is not a single dull moment. no wonder it is the box office crown bearer of south korea.

I love this film ….best monster flick ever ….
if am not wrong, this film is by the same guy who made memories of murder….which is one of the best film i saw in a long time..
yes rick its the same director …..get hold on the Host .. i bet u ll like it ..
This is actually a quasi political film disguised as a monster flick. The director takes many potshots at Americans, their ’security’ agencies and their bullying of smaller nations. One rarely comes across something like that outside of America. Less so in an entertaining film with a mass appeal.
This is a classic. The ultimate monster movie and the funniest too. Just grab it from anywhere and watch.

Hmm Vishrant, the story does seem pretty similar to Cloverfield, i did hear that Cloverfield was taken from a South Korean movie.
Regarding the Han river thing, some time back the US Army flushed some toxic wastes into the river and there was a huge protest.
Again recently there were massive protests in Seoul and all over S.Korea against the import of beef from US. Anti Americanism runs deep there.
