The Kite Runner

(2/5) Very flat, clichéd and uninspiring adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel.

So true. I just felt so when I had seen the film. It was like as though Forrester was just unable to take the essence of what the book conveyed and show it onscreen.

The book wonderfully depicts the friendship of two young boys growing up in Afghansitan, the unflinching loyalty of the servant’s kid towards his master’s son, the act of betrayal, the price to be paid, living with guilt and finally seeking redemption and peace with the past were so wonderfully described by Hosseni. He is a master story-teller with no manipulations at all. I could actually feel all the characters. Couldn’t control my tears in some parts. Its a beautiful book (and its a debut) but the film has the book without its soul.

(His 2nd book - A Thousand Splendid Suns is another that shouldn’t be missed. ) An amazing writer, Hosessni is.

    @ arthi v and jahan..

couldnt agree with u guys more….

i read abt the movie being made on imdb and it had a good rating too…..
i was so excited to watch this movie..
since THE KITE RUNNER and A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS are my two most favourite books….

the proceedings of the movie were way too fast so much that it does not leave any impact watsoever..
it needed to a be a little slower…

Stopped reading the book halfway, no chance of watching the film.

    Arthi.V,

Absolutely…agree with you cent-percent…the movie missed he mar by a mile…there was no emphasis on building the characters…at end if i had not read the book, i would have ended up feeling, why the hell did he do that? what was the need for Ali to take so much pain…

It was a book so much on relationships…but alas the director of the movie couldnt potray it…the point being, it just couldnt have been made into a 2 hr movie..it definitely needed 3 hours…but then, it again raises the question…was it a book that “needed” to be made into a movie? i guess not…i had my own versions of the characters and how they looked and how they behaved…i couldnt find that in the movie
