The RESH 180 Project

Here’s a project that has me hooked for some time now. Adam Ybarra the Chaplain of Oakland Raiders approached us to make a product out of a motivational curriculum that he taught to a varied audience.

We were then a primarily animation production company and he was wondering if we could do something within our domain. I browsed through the workbook he used and found the vaguest of descriptions and exercises. I am a visual person but just couldn’t see what or how he was going about doing his thing. So I asked if I could watch him perform before an audience and see what he did with the curriculum. What I saw simply amazed me. Leaving the workbook pretty much aside, he connected with his audience – this time a high school football team – in such a way that had me spellbound. These were students who came from a not-so-well-off background living in very negative environments exposed to broken homes, ganglands etc. No animation could bring out what he was doing.

So I proposed taping his inspiring and thought-provoking talks along with animations of all the exercises he did with his audiences. We hit on some good ideas and they have been taking shape. It’s been a year we started off on the project. Most of the time was spent in conceptualizing and finalizing the theme and look and feel. We are in the last phase of the project, editing and authoring and printing etc. The Project will be launched on September 29 this year. And I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Once done, I will post a preview on youtube and would love to get some responses from you. Till then it’s back the studios again :)
