The sureshot highs of next five months

Had a great week.. saw some incredible movies and they underline the changing face of indian cinema.. here are the must watch hindi movies of next few months and believe me we have a great year ahead..
JOHNNY GADDAR- sriram raghavan is back and how, a MBA turned gangster, who tries to pull off few tricks too many and it’s all mayhem then onwards.. some rock solid turns by vinay pathak, zakir hussain and a brilliant debut from NEIL NITIN MUKESH, its a thriller with a dark heart and wow..
MITTHYA- rajat kapoor is back with his take on the underworld and it just might be the biggest surprise of the year, got a thundering applause at it’s very first screening at the OSIAN’s film festival, a laugh riot with some tremendous performance from Ranveer Shorey.. wasn’t expecting it to be such a trip that it was, a lousy actor replacing a lookalike mob boss, this is the film that Don should have been.. i remember this as one of the first scripts Rajat had written and tried for two long years to meet Ramu just after Satya, nine years before it saw the light of the day and what a film, would love to see ramu’s face when he watches it, will definitely hit the home run..
FROZEN-by shivaji chandrabhushan, was the only indian film shortlisted by the CANNES guys but they didn’t have the money to complete it, finally complete thanks to Anand Surapur and Syed of deluxe labs, shot in Black and white, brilliantly by Shankar Raman (who also wrote the film), story of a family in laddakh who face intrusion from the army, reminds one of the srilankan classic, camera’d'ore winner “The Forsaken Land”.. brilliant filmmaking
WEDNESDAY- have always believed in Neeraj pandey ever since i read few of his early scripts, i know nothing about the film but eagerly waiting
SHOONYA- My producer of black friday makes a very assured first film again with brilliant turns by KK and satish kaushik..(loved hearing my own dialogues), an impactful film shot on HD about a cricketer caught in a matchfixing scandal, inspired by T.S. Eliot’s “Murder in the cathedral”..proud of this one..
STRANGERS- by anand rai, nice thriller, when it started i almost thought “has he remade STRANGERS ON A TRAIN” but my fear was unfounded, the film takes it’s own course with twists and turns, only too high on digital transitions not much to my taste but definitely a much better and refined thriller than Naqab
there were some others too that i couldn’t see but was raved about, Kya Tum ho by Anish ahluwalia, Via Darjeeling by arindam nandy
And my old favourite MANORAMA- six feet under, which premieres today at OSIAN’s and i am back, Vasan called and said he loved it and the audience too, wish i was there..
it’s the next lot of happiness and things are surely changing …

you know the industry thinks that PFC is the site that is for my self promotion, anyways when there are a lot of good films coming then it’s great healthy competitive atmosphere.. i am competing with all of them, i would wait for Other PFC writer’s to write bout it when it releases..

Frozen is brilliant. I was bowled over by it when I saw the rough cut last year. I am so happy the filmmaker found people to help him finish the movie. Danny Denzongpa is phenomenal in it, in a role, the kind of which you have never seen him in before.
AK, you missed Kya Tum Ho in LA and now you missed it again?? Superb movie, daring and original. Been over a year and half since it was made. I am shocked nobody has come forward to release the film. Superb performances from the whole cast…Jyoti Dogra and Rajit Kapur in particular.
Thanks for sharing.
loading...
what!!!…my choice will be johnny gadar. may change the decision if no smoking has some killer promo.
loading...
Anurag, I feel jealous.. how cna you be so lucky and watch all these wonderful movies. We mere mortal have to wait! not fair.
I have been a great fan of Rajat Kapoor since Monsoon Wedding. Very underrated but talented artist. Only hate it when my girfriend goes ga ga over him!

I guess Johnny Gadar is the launch vehicle of Sikandar Kher, ‘init?

no tushar, it’s neil nitin mukesh

Frozen sounds inspiring. Of this lot, I bet it’s gaddar that will be popular, for obvious reasons (unless mittya pulls a fast one)

It’s Frozen, Manorama, Mithaya and Johnny Gadar on the top of my list… Darn… I’m excited… any chance Sriram may forward Johnny Gadar Trailers and posters for us to upload?
We need to find posters and stills of Frozen, Manorama and Mithaya too…
loading...
I just saw one shooting still of Manorama, with AD on a bike in the deserts, couldn’t recognize him. His look is a refreshing change. That one tops my list, followed by Mithya & Shoonya.
loading...
shoonya was directed by the producer of black friday Arindam Mitra
loading...
You haven’t seen Mithya’s first look yet? It is one of the best I have seen.
Manorama Six Feet Under – the website is not updated yet.
i do not know nothing about Frozen – heard it first time!
loading...
Frozen is hopefully coming to Toronto IFF
loading...
shit I didn’t know Arindam Mitra directed Shoonya. Just IMDB’d and found out. Should be interesting.
loading...
wow, thanks for this, HG(the ever reliable link-supplier!
)
I got to hear the first bits of the soundtrack. Don’t know if its a known song, sounds a lil like Deep Purple’s Mad Woman from Tokyo..
I kinda liked the way Rajat Mukherjee captured some of the noire nuances of the deserts in Road, alas it didn’t conclude well. Hope Manorama does the trick.
and ya, waiting for Mithya’s first look..

oh cool, got it. I remember seeing it now. Should be interesting to see if Naseer’s underworld outing proves as much a riot as Bombay Boys’ Mastana.

Oh yeah…loved Ek Hasina Thi…Sriram probably did not try doing all those nonsense scripts one keeps coming across and concentrated on getting his own script right…the earlier movie was the making of Saif as an actor…maybe this one shall bring Neil Mukesh to the fore..or someone else…what impresses me about Sriram is the kicking pace in his stories…
loading...
wow…this year is awesome…
loading...
Yeah Ek Hasina Thi is a great movie very much underated sadly …
I heard Saif and Sriram are coming together again in Agent Vinod .. Really can’t wait for this one to start !!! :d/
loading...
Really keen on seeing at least most of the above mentioned films.
Jonny Gaddar… because of Sriram first…. been waiting long enough to see another film from him… and I am sure will be worth the wait. Also hope it brings the industry one more actor in the form of Neel Mukesh.
Am waiting for MANORAMA… because I have heard great things about it… and again hope it gives all the three actors Abhay, Raima and Gul a better positioning.
And yes I also am eagerly waiting for FROZEN and Mithya…
loading...
Hey Anurag, were you part of any serial named Darr on Star Plus…starring Irrfan and KK…also do you have any brother called Anubhav who was also part of the same?
loading...
Anurag, why don’t you direct a movie for Ramu? After all, it is his “Sathya” that propelled you to limelight, now don’t you think you should bury any differences (if they exist) and payback ramu and give him a hit, considering all the crazy movies he is making now? What a wonderful combination that will be!!

I do like Sreeram Raghavan and he had a really good story weaved out in Ek Hasina Thi.As far as my muddled mind can remember, he also wrote the dialogues/screenplay for Cheeni Kum (Maybe am wrong). But if it was him, they were really good.
I would love to see his new flick but sometimes get worried that all movies should not end up trying to be different and on that premise lose out on a nice story line. But will definitely watch this flick(s).
Anurag, I might be in Pixeon over the next week and heard that “No Smoking” is also having its post production there and will say Hello, If I pass you in the passage or have a smaoke.

Hi Anurag,
Thought we were destined to chat with each other considering that we have run into each other 4 times, once at my office at Cgate and rest in the airports including yesterday 28th july07 , the flight from Delhi , yeah, the scary one where the flight almost did not land and took off again :-)
Black was a brave movie and I keep going back to it everytime there is a judgement to connect the two and subsume the understated drama in the movie with the real life scare.
warm regards

Navind, what flight was that I mean which..jet or …just curious to know….I am not scared or anything just wondering. The quality of flight is deteriorating everyday….we have to reduce the number of flights…Sorry this has nothing to do with the PFC forum but this is a serious issue.

Hi Anurag, been an avid follower of your blog for a while now. An a HUGE of cinema(particularly Hindi, Tamil, and Hollywood).
JOHNNY GADDAR I have been waiting to see for a while. Sriram Raghavan blew me away in EK HASINA THI.
MITHIYA: Yes, it’s taken Rajat a long time to make it, but glad he has. Hopefully after the success of BHEJA FRY this one too hits the jackpot. IMO Ranvir Shourey is one of the country’s FINEST ACTORS. I have seen almost all of his mainstream hindi film performances, and am in awe of his timing and delivery. Glad to see him finally getting recognition he truly deserves.
SHOONYA Has Kay Kay so is instantly a MUST SEE.
As for MANORAMA 6 FEET UNDER, well Abhay Deol is fast turning in to a cult favourite of sorts. His films like SOCHA NA THA, ECKLL and AHISTA AHISTA may have failed at the boxoffice, but no doubt he has gained a following of sorts. I look forward to anything he does.
BTW DYING to see NO SMOKING.
Keep up the good work all around Mr. Kashyap.

Hi Suchita,
Amusing to answer about a flight on a blog where I visited more to worship creativity and its practitioners. It was the 1725flight from Delhi and after hovering around in the bad weather for some time, came in for the landing and almost dove (!) back up without touching the runway. And Anurag if you are wondering whats happening to your blog, if you were indeed on the flight you will know ! I wonder if the airlines will ever reveal more than the ashen faced stewards who weakly wished us goodbye. warm regards nd

Anurag,
Thanks for this post. I was hooked on to Mithya right from the beginning, but didn’t know about Sriram Raghavan’s film and some other films in your list. I’ll watch out for them.
P.S.:- Whoa, I can’t believe that Paruthiveeran bagged the best film prize!

Thanks for the update on the Osian winners, by the way.

Thanks for the news Anurag! Congratulations from PFC to the winners…

But when is shoonya releasing?????? anyone..ne clue. now its almost six months or more…that i hav been hearing about the film. not seen a single still of the film so far.

wow, im eagerly awaiting for johnny gaddar ..i didnt knew it was coming this yr, thnx for the news.
anyways, a personal question.
can anyone let me know,
how can one start as assisting a director , i want to work as an assistant under a good director, but i also want to be frank, i havent got any film making course, but dunno, i want to make a career in film making.
so those who dont have any film making course, do directors take them as an assistants or as freshers.
also wanted to know, what directors look out for while selecting the assistants ?
plz hope someone replies back. thnx

hi
i am so happy that the scenario is changing so fast .. i was wating for this day since the last sooo many years and i am sure it will keep changing ,when sensible films will hit the cloud circuit.. when i will get to read a script and feel happy that i will not have to “act”.. i am so fed up of “acting”..
i want to start watching films again in the cinema halls, and no more pirated CD’s and special screenings
why?
because the film was not released or went down the box office too early. not on my computer but in the arena where such films should live and fight with honour against the tyranny of cheap entertainment.the strength is comming back, i want to buy a ticket with pride not beg for passes in some film frestival.
with teh success of such film, it is about time we come out of the jungle..”no more guerilla tactics”, fight in the open.
ARE WE READY FOR THAT.
loading...
Zero !
I can understand your surprise over Paruthiveeran’s win!!
All those discussions we had on that movie in your blog.
Possibly chennai 600028 wasn’t screened in the fest!!
ny wayz! it was a movie that could create two camps -those who absolutely love it and those who cannot digest it. Purely for that reason I would cal it “interesting cinema”.
I am like everyone else dying to catch all those movies mentioned above. However I am restricted to only those I can get on a DVD, So I guess I will have to wait.
Meanwhile, collecting thoughts on “Mozhi” to post.
congrats to winners of the fest and offcourse to all those movies that were screened and appreciated.
loading...
Jaiganesh,
Not just about Paruthiveeran. My expression of surprise was also because not everyday one can see a Tamil film winning a best film prize! Moreover, I have seen no other film in the Indian competition section. So, I can’t really comment on the given award!
And, let me not digress here, but I certainly didn’t find the film (or its climax) hard to digest.
loading...
ch-28 is 2007! not 2006!
loading...
Jaiganesh,
r u playing by replying to yourself?:d
loading...
hypocrisy…u guys wont accept dat climax bcoz its made in tamil!…if its french or english or even hindi..tamilians will appreciate it! y tamilians r so fickleminded? :((
loading...
Oops! The last comment signed “Jaiganesh” was mine. Apologies.
loading...
I was simply wiki’ng for ‘Vanilla Sky’ and thinking about alternate realities and et al. Suddenly found a post that I didn’t write. Fortunately saw zero’s clarification post to gain some composure. These cinemas can have u killed u know?
nywayz,
PFC authors at the fest can give a clear details of the quality of competition that faced Paruthi veeran. Apart from that the journey of the film maker Ameer is definitely worth chronicling as an inspirational story for young film makers who want to succeed in the mainstream.
As you guys might be well aware, in thamizh film industry or circle, there is no art house. so if you have a strong idea, the only way of making it is to hunt for producers bold enough to gamble and make allowances for a small portion of commercial compromises to hit the theatre. Once you hit the theatre, then there is a good chance of your movie picked up as the “Word of Mouth” publicity is still strong in Thamizh nadu. Films like Sethu, Kadhal Veyyil or Chennai 6L28 became hits only because of WOM and not by publicity as the jantha there once decide are not swayed by publicity.
So when Ameer made paruthi veeran with an unknown face as the lead and an “unlucky girl” as the heroine, there were no takers. Their(distributors) demand was to crop away the climax scene and make a happy end. Ameer had made the movie on his own money and took loans at a cost of 7 crores.
he was obstinate and obdurate in not selling the movie for a lesser price as he thought that the subject would succeed.
Ameer had produced the movie all by himself under his banner “Team work productions”. He had earlier made the movie “Raam” and that too enjoyed moderate business success and won award for the lead actor in Cyprus film festival. This time the delay was too much and Actor surya’s production banner Studio green bought the movie from Ameer and released it. It is unfortunate that the person who invested in the vision and made the product no longer enjoys the happiness of taking the movie in festival circuits and travelling with the movie around the world.
Ameer has moved on meanwhile to collaborate with giants in the film industry. He next plans to act in a movie in addition to writing story and screenplay. The movie is all set to be directed by Bharathiraja himself and the title is “Yogi”.
Meanwhile Studio Green and Karthee are travelling the world with Paruthi veeran.
loading...
Priya mani- the female lead of the movie gets the best actress award
loading...
To be fair to Zero, I just now saw that the awards for Paruthi veeran are for the indian competition section.
loading...
Jaiganesh, I don’t get what you mean in your last comment, but I was just saying that I haven’t watched any other film in that section.
loading...
Oh! My bad.
I thought you said that the award is not in the open competition section where the movie competes against other asian films or arab films. Which is the case here as the award was exclusively for Indian competition section and some chinese film won the overall prize. Nothing crooked I meant!! I hope we are on the same page.
loading...
Cant wait to see Kay Kay in Shoonya.
Jhonny Gadar – Neil looks good and lets see if he can act.

good to see u talking about films … yet again….

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION TO V.P.Jaiganesh’s COMMENTS on Paruthiveeran- JUST SPOKE TO Karthi himself a few minutes ago and got this information first hand
The film “Paruthiveeran” was initiated by Studio Green and Ameer. So the association was always there since inception. The budget agreed for the film was 2.75 crores. As the shooting progressed the film’s budget just hit the roof. The producer and the Director had a discussion and Ameer wanted to take over the film from there on. The producers agreed. The film again hit a financial crisis and it was Gnanavel’s Studio Green that stepped in again and bailed the film out. It gave an additional 4.6 crores and also paid the acumulated interest of 1.5 crores.
Karthi did want to travel around with the Director but he was not reachable. It’s not that he was left out. Karthi has the highest regards for Ameer the director of the film.
loading...
hey guys, nice to some comments about Frozen, thank you to the people who watched the film and appreaciated it,thank you to those who bashed the film and sorry to people who missed the film and came up to me to ask whether there was a second screening.Well my film won the Special Jury Award which meant I couldnt get the second screening. The honour went to Parthuveran.Anyway no regrets.Do watch out for Frozen. You guys can check out the website at www.frozen.co.in for posters etc.
loading...
Hi Vasan !
Thanks for the clarification.
Karthee should go ahead and clarify these things in local press too. What I have mentioned seems to be the current opinion in the local press and Ameer himself gives the same impression in some of his interviews to TV. If it is not the case, I would be a very happy person as I have high hopes from the team of Ameer, Karthee, Surya, Bala. They currently hold the hopes for artistic insight in mainstream Thamizh films.
loading...
Ahh i forgot to say thanks to Anurag K for talking about my film. Thanks Dude! Pray that i get a distributer in india so that people here can see it.Anurag you should have been there to see the black and white print.Excellent work by the Deluxe lab people.
I wanted to know if any of the guys here saw Frozen at Osians?

Shivajee Chandrabhushan, the stills are absolutely stunning. Read behind the scenes n location write ups on www.frozen.co.in Making this film sounds nothing short of an adventure! You will surely get the distributor sir!Good cinema is a rarity. Eagerly awaiting to see this film in nearby cinema hall alongwith my friends. Wish you all the best!

congrats! i watched “frozen” at osian’s. i missed the first 5 minutes, but loved everything else i saw. black and white has really made a difference- helped highlight the bleakness. otherwise ladakh is too picturesque to look bleak. what film stock did you use, if i may ask?
loading...
a question (i may be asking this because i missed the first 5 min)- is lasya supposed to be danny’s biological daughter or adopted? she’s brown while rest of the family is ladakhi. also i felt, her performance wasn’t upto the mark.
loading...
Antonioni died too last night, one great follows another
loading...
Cy we used Kodak vision 2.
Lasya is a biological daughter to Karma. You missed the Indian mother played by Shilpa Shukla.Well about her performance its her first film and i am sure she will improve with time.If you feel that she was not up to the mark well the problem is with the filmmaker and not the artist. Some delagates told me that she had that perfect innocent madness.Anyway i take everything with a pinch of salt. Thanks again.:)

Definately looking forward to JOHNNY GADAR, heard Dharmendra’s in it playing a very cool character. Can’t wait!
MITHYA is getting some great hype by mainstream sites as well. Here’s a link to a story by Joginder Tuteja (who writes music reviews for IndiaFM and writes extensively on IndiaGlitz). This ones from IndiaGlitz, and is all hype. At least the hype is for a great indi-film.

Hi Anurag,
Im not a PFC regular , just stumbled on this site . felt compelled write a note to u as i do not know how else to contact u. This is one of the innumberable compliments that u wud have recieved 4 ur film ( ur only directoral venture to breathe the air out of the cans).
It only brings a painful reminse of how my favourite city, where i have left part of my heart and soul shattered repeatedly. I am aware that u hail from Gorakhpur , but i do not believe less that u are as a Mumbaiete as me ( I consider myself madly in love with mumbai more than any one in the world).A couple of people after seeing the movie bombarded me with questions on Bombai and the blasts and I took a nostalgic puff and did not want to stop the brag and sorrow of the blasts. I would request you to send a copy of the movie to a person who named a movie after the city based on the riots Mani Ratnam. The movie was an insult to the city (VT station and Marine Drive is all that was true about the city in the movie.) Where is the live Mumbai spirit , where was the aura . How did he name the movie after the city when it could not initiate an olfactory hallucination of the stench, Vada pav, BEST smoke
I again congratulate u on showing people who don’t know Bombay and reminding others who ve forgotten about it .
PS I am very much inclined to see ur 1st direrctoral venture Paanch. If u could let me know how and when u may arrange a public screening for others or if u have a cd/dvd, i would be obliged.

Hi
I’ve just completed my Masters in Professional Writing (from London Metropolitan Univ, London), where one of my main (and final) projects was to write a film for Ram Gopal Varma, complete with the screenplay, list of potential actors for the roles and a commentry on why I chose RGV.
Now, I am not heavily into films (I work as Asst. Editor for a technology website) except that I try to catch every bollywood movie that comes to London. But I love the films by RGV, and was extremely happy to see that my project – which was my first attempt at writing a film – won a distinction in my university, and helped me pass my MA with a Merit degree.
Since I have got this far, I have been trying to find a contact for RGV so I can send him my script…am really curious to know if he can make it into a film. And I am positive he will find it interesting indeed (it’s mafia/politics-related).
Could you please send me contact details for Ram Gopal Varma/his office. Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks and best regards (and good luck with your own ventures!)

Hi Shivajee, i loved your film frozen, haunting visuals, great performances too, i was spellbound, there was a slight awkwardness to the lasya and chomo which looks great and ‘real’, only thing that i can crit is the story, some parts were cliched, like sharma having designs on lasya, i liked the contrast between the dreamy landscapes and harsh realities, also chomo being a creature of lasyas imagination didnt come out as a revelation, in any case it was a nice departure from the usual brand of zen films made previously in ladakh offering some sort of momentary nirvana, and i’d like to put in a word for shanker raman, i like what and how your eyes look at the world, all the best for the future, cheers!

THnx Anuragh

I’m looking forward to Shoonya :-) And hey, I loved Black Friday for more than one reason, thanks for making that flick Anurag.
loading...
Hi Anurag,
Shoonya is a terrible movie..
This movie is clearly targeting Azar/Ajay Jadeja. But the text of the movie is a complete fiction and it talks alot about internal conflict of the character (played by KK). And if this whole conflict is developed by the writer and you know its a complete fiction then how can you target Azhar/Ajay. When I asked this question to the director after the screening of Shhonya(in Ocean) then he simply escaped by saying who is Azhar?. This was quite funny.
And there are many problems with shoonya at various level, like two stupid alter egos saying samething..(one was played nasser and second by KK himself..)
What would you say about the internal conflict thing that I said above..?

coz Indian Culture has got a history and present of de weirdest of weirdest macabre stuff done by Tantriks and Mantriks wid de support of villagers etc….for e.g. sum days ago a schoolteacher killed his daughter nd burried her in his own garden on de advice of Mantrik.
i wanna knw yr thoughts on it…is it sum film material or sth which can b dumped as Raddi…

Raghavan has been ramu’s last good find after schmit amin. After that just lost it with the Sawant’s & company. Ive been waiting for a raghavan movie since a long time, ek hasina thi was very slickly done.
Except shunya everything there interests me, shunya not basically because yes it will draw parallels with azaruddin & there isnt there anything which is concretely proved yet.

I love the work (read movies) you do-but anuraag, saying indian cinema is changing bcoz Ronnie Screwalla is on the cover of newsweek, and not Yash Chopra! Please stop shooting your mouth (like your mentor RGV) what yash chopra, srk, karan j and adi chopra have done, and continue to do…is so unbeleivable, that all the players in the business today like like toddlers!!
make movies coz u make super ones! but keep the opinions on stalwarts like yash chopra etc..in the bin!!

hi anuraag,

Hi Anurag,
We met when u were in UTV to show the rushes of Gulal. Very honestly I was not able to comprehend what u were trying convey. Then one of my bosses told that he didn’t like Black Friday very much, but my brother who has seen it on pirated DVD and he was gung ho and when I saw it in theater I was like, dude I know why I didn’t like RDB so much, because it was juvenile.
I know this is hardly the place but I need to send the script to you, not for anything else but just for your feedback, if u can flip thru first few pages and if u find it interesting to read it completely. Please let me know where I can send it to you or should I send it to u.
Take care…

Anurag your first surefire release Manorama has bit the dust – Lousy crappy sorry excuse of a film with no understanding of Film Noir and some of the worst acting ever. Just watch it back to back with Slallow Grave, Blood Simple and Eastern Promises, and you’ll see how the comparison is like the comparison of our Olympic team with those of Korea, Mexico, Canada, Eastern Europe.
Instead of comparing these films with mainstream Bollywood, try and compare it with the works of other filmmakers across the world – If you wanna make films like the ones you’ve mentioned, then it has to rock at Toronto, Sundance or Cannes – the rest of the festivals don’t mean jack shit – I mean there are 2600 so called film festivals across the world in one year!!!! – Morocco, Cairo, Louisiana, Peru, Rome, etc – I mean you’re actually cheering that your film is premiering at Rome, which is not even the biggest festival in Italy!! Let alone in Europe or the world – might as well premiere your film in Ghana or Trivandrum.
Here’s what I predict – Ever film you’ve praised is gonna bite the dust because they’re not great Bollywood films nor are they world class alternative/art-house/cult cinema.
I am your well wisher and let me warn you that unless you do something about your jumbled, confused and aimless trailer of No Smoking, there’s gonna be No audience either.
If this ovement has to succeed we have to go further than where Park Chan Wook went with Oldboy ….. in terms of courage to be honest in terms of language, violence, politics, religion and sex and fuck the censors and the consequences -

Gurpreet very courageous…..now can you repeat all this with your true IDENTITY???? that would translate the talk bout courage and honesty
loading...
gurpreet …whats wrong with you ? even if its a ver bad film whya re you comparing it iwth other movies to make your point .noone said or claimed its a masterpiece , anurag from where i see it is supportive of movies made by people who are largely unknown and anurag thinks these movies should be seen , its his personal opinion ..you take it or leave it .

Vasan, My true identity is Gurpreet Singh and I live in London – do you want my address and phone number too? Would that make me even more honet and courageous according to you?
Aj – Just like I can take or leave Aanurag’s opinion, you can take or leave my opinion – and as far as comparisons are concerned, one doesn’t live in a cinematic vacuum, everything that’s made is consiously or unconsiously compared with what you’ve seen or experienced earlier, unless you suffer from cronic losses of memory. Never claimed that I was the voice of God – this is again only my individual opinion.

@ Gurupreet FYI Anurag didnt make Manorama…Its by Navdeep

@ gurpreet

Gurpreet, on this platform they simply cannot understand the concept of criticism…it’s construed as a personal attack.
And there seems to be this retarded notion that if you are personally not employed in this profession (stated many times by Anurag,) you have no business calling a spade a spade…it’s pretty absurd.
loading...
Gurpreet/123 The way things are put and are expressed does depend on what your contribution is to the world of cinema…what pains have you taken to make a difference…to call others shit/jack/jerk or whatever you call them….Anyone can do a wikipedia/imdb and get info and talk about it…leg over leg and call even a spade as shit….seriously Gurpreet that takes as much guts and courage as taking a pee on Mumbai roads….anyone can do that….
Anyways enjoy your leak on PFC…caution don’t spoil you own pants…..

vasan, first of all let me clarify..I have my own opinion on this..whatever anyone else may think. A film is simply a product just like any other…a food item, a song, a painting, an automobile etc.etc.. One does not have to be a chef,a singer,a painter or automobile engineer to critique those things..if you think that you are living in a totalitarian state. One just has to be a consumer of the above products and one automatically gets the right to criticize them. Simply because those things are being created for the consumer and he has the last word on whether or not he/she thinks they are good or bad.
Or else, the filmmaker etc would self finance/create a movie/product by himself and then watch it/consume it behind closed doors by himself…if he absolutely did not want the outside world to intervene.
But if he is creating that product for the outside world in the first place..then he has to be ready to accept whatever they say…
So your logic that one has to be a creator of cinema or anything for that matter, in order to criticize it, is complete and total bullshit.
I hope you are smart enough to see that.It requires a very elementary common sense.
If I think your movie sucks and I dont want to spend dollars or rupees on it, then I have every right to say so. It’s amazing that you guys think this way inspite of constantly maligning so-called ‘mainstream bollywood’ films. This is outright hypocrisy and double standards. Sorry pal, but if the shit stinks, it stinks…

Anurag,
You must have heard of previews and also understand that common folk like us can also save up enough money for a show at a film festival. And some of us do have to fly a lot especially if one works on an airplane. Hopefully I’ll have the honor of serving you onboard one day when you take the Toronto – London – Mumbai flight with the award Cronenberg won. And I can show your film with pride to the rest of the crew.

Vasan,
Didn’t know this was a site exclusively for filmmakers – I apologise for commenting if it is – Now to the response to knowledge from Wikipedia or the response to my perceived negative comments to go try making my own film – If the pilot screws up, don’t criticize him, or he’ll say what the f do u know about flying, go learn to fly your own plane or the doc who screws up says to you – wikipedia knowledge my friend, go to med school, contibute to medicine and then criticize me –
But then again, maybe you know something I don’t – and maybe I’m someone who has all the free time to watch a lot of movies, read and listen to music …. and to comment on sites like these
