« The Secret Is Out–Oscars Coming To India !! | Home | I plead guilty - I am a Marxist »

Time to introspect and move ahead..

Hi Oz,

I hope I don’t sound like a high priest of morality or anything. Just wanted to propose something…

Its been an year or more since our site has started functioning. I have enjoyed writing over here and will continue on my own terms till of course you guys decide to chuck me out..

I think, now is the time to introspect. Coz, if we don’t now, we might just get regressive and pushed back. The writers here, most of them are very good. I love the way the present their POV. I love their nervous energies and even chuckle at the rigorous emanation of their cynicism.

But, that ain’t enough. We have been harping on endlessly for a long time now. I think up untill now, the site as worked, more like a ‘bizarro parallel world’ where honest reviews and comments often topple fabricated journalistic ethics..

Most of us out here work as good commentators. But I dare to ask, “Where is the creativity?”

This site as I see it should not merely work as a gateway for budding movie critics. There are many wannabe scribes here who have proved that they are very good at tearing apart mediocre movies…

I say , “Why not ask them to give what they need?”

Instead of merely sitting back and saying, “The wind here’s no good to shake the apple-tree branch and hence I cant prove what gravity is, why not cut the apple off the branch and prove what gravity is all about?”

Why not encourage people to write short stories? I would really like to know the true sensibility that lies the seemingly incandascent spirit of many a commentators here..

When a writer presents his/her short-stories what he/she actually would be doing is present narrative techniques, conversational patterns and traversing of time back and forth all while narrating an incident.

These techniques would in a way highlight how we actually want our films to be like.. If you think an X, Y or zee scene in a film was regressively written, you ought to know an alternative way of presentation that you think would have suited the film better..

Like I said, starting out.. Lets not make this site a place for budding movie critics alone, coz thats what this site is more about now..

It aint passionforcinema but cynicismfornothing.com right now..

We have passed that latency period now. Lets get to the actual thing. In addition to all that we r doing right now, lets also present to those who we think lack proper sensibility what sensibility we actually demand…

@sreehari..dont you think showcasing short stories would amount to IPR issues ..we have anyday a lot of predators hawking for stories to be plagiarised. Imagine one day ..one of your story is made into a movie without your knowledge and you end up actually paying for the movie which has your story.:P
But yes..you made some really valid points. Points to be noted.
    I rest my case!

why not have a seperate section for scripts and shortstories and one can put it for all.. it being published on the net on a day and time makes it a kind of copyright..

Great idea, please do it ASAP, will there be censorship issues as well:o

I do not know what are the laws related to Intellectual Property Rights in India..but my guess is that it is weak. Even if the story is published on PFC,it can be plagiarised and the general public later realises that it has been lifted from PFC short stories. The producer has slready raked in the moolah considering the script was really good(hypothetical situation).
Need to think of alternatives keeping mind ways to keep a check on the apprenhensions of writers showcasing their creativity.

    Sreehari,

PFCOne is the first (real) step we have made. And the rest will follow. It takes time/effort/resources to built the infrastructure for the next step. It ain’t that simple, unfortunately. But hopefully, something (the next step) should be ready by end of this year. Oz/PFC team are working on something for a long time now.

There has been a lot of creativity on here. Krysh constantly writes creative articles. Recently a few authors showed their short films. And very recently we had somebody showing their short film through Projekt iView. Then there are others who have a panache way for writing. We have had 100 Sunday and other stuffs like that.

What has happened in last a couple of days is rare. But yes, it will happen now and then, and you cannot eradicate that. PFC does not stand for perfect cinema community. And it should not be like that.

If you are a creative person then you will find something creative in everything.

Fully support the suggestion on a section for scripts/short stories.

Me too..most of us also do write blogs..humor, travel, shorts…I have seen everything..stand outs…I remember are Bhavani, Megha, Subrat, Krysh, HG…
Just like something they did at Sulekha!!

There’s a lot creative effort involved in writing a story idea or even a script. If what Anurag says is true, that copyright laws hold good on the net, then a lot of budding writers can showcase their talent. If we can have a one minute movie festival, then why not a one thousand words script presentation?

Excellent thought…but..i guess we have been doing that..we have been giving chance to people to show their creative side…remember the sunday 100 thingy?…we have pfc guys putting their short films from filmaka here..we have people showing their creative side…its not as if we dwell only on cynicism…yes cynicism can be seen more boldly than say creativeness…but that my friend is how everything in life is aint it? but…having said that i am all for giving chances to each and all to prove their creative sides…for beginners we have pfcone…we can come up with numerous others too…so, lets throw in ideas…

Cynicism is very important my friend!
Without cynicism, there is only escapism… a la .. Pradeep Sarkar & YRF style…. :)
