Trauma – the best inspiration!

What is Mendel’s law of segregation?

A 12 cm by 18 cm picture is enlarged to 4 times its area. What are the new dimensions?

State how prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells differ …..

How many times have I stared at my test paper stumped by the very first question? Stumped is an understatement. Trembling, sweating, unblinking tormented soul reduced to a pathetic nonentity of dust particle is more like it. Writing and erasing an answer so many number of times… fidget… scratch head… what the heck… hmm this will do… drat! I erased a hole in my answer sheet!

For those of you who have those superb science/math oriented grey cells, get this – you’ll never ever begin to understand the trauma and bewilderment a pure arts brain goes through when it sees a science/math paper. When the paper asks me to solve a sum using a formula I ask myself and the whole world why should I solve it when I don’t see it as a problem? And even if I must to get grades, why use a formula that is given? Aren’t there other ways of doing it but of course right then my brain would refuse to budge further because it don’t see no shapes no colors no smell no music no movement and above all – no meaning.

School is way back in the past now. But the trauma inflicted by seemingly meaningless test papers, the pebbly ground and stern, unsmiling teachers stay clear. Clear and inspiring enough for me to start a multimedia animation company www.kreativevistas.com that simplifies complex science and technical concepts into 3D/2D animations complete with voice and music and story.

Yup we are making life easier for learners and communicators. Finally! So when a doctor explains a surgical procedure to an unassuming patient or a mad scientist explains a mind-blowingly complex research breakthrough to the media or a teacher in a classroom explains the splitting of an atom we step in, make an entertaining (and accurate) animation film out of it and enable better clearer communication.

Those books always came thick didn’t they? So there is a lot of work to be done. And I am enjoying every bit of it managing the Subject Matter Experts and Animators. Though I don’t dare make the films myself, my trauma has turned into a fascination for Science. I always thought there was a common ground where science and arts folks could come together create something of great benefit for all of us. Today we have a team of 42 animators. We have just begun and there is a long way to go.

I will keep posting about the latest developments in animations and ideas. Do let me know what interests you. This is my first time blogging on PFC. Feels good.

Never……neverevereverevereverever say that math ppl do not understand the trauma or bewilderment of an artistic brain.

  4. Dabba, Though our focus is not the abstract, I will find out from production if we have delved into it yet. However I would love to know why you ask.
