Unveiling the Black Friday Poster !!!!!!

[oz note: Vasan was on the sets of No Smoking with a digital still camera, from where he had this opportunity to capture the unveiling of the Black Friday poster by Anurag Kashyap himself... using the same digital camera to capture the video... so the quality may not be that great... but Vasan... thanks a ton for this!!!

UPDATE 2: Message from Manjeet:

Tommorow (January 12/2007) theres a shoot of 'No Smoking' at Gateway of India at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to be part of screen and can bring their friends along with them. The scene is of New Year Eve's celebration and need lots of people. Hope to see you folks!

Holy Smokes!!! WOW!!! Now I wish I could be there!!!

CORRECTION : THE shoot is at MUKESH MILLS in Colaba, close to Colaba Fire Station at 7 pm and not Gateway of India.

UPDATE : Manjeet's pictures uploaded!

I think PFC is the first to publish Black Friday's official poster! Thanks Vasan and Manjeet! Where was the unveiling held? On the sets of No Smoking?
]

Long awaited…….long discussed and I cannot remember the last film I wanted so desperately to release. [how many are stuck like this one anyways....for whatever reasons....anyways...Year 2007 sure starting on a super note????]…..Just thought I should start this post by saying that we have a video of Anurag Kashyap unveiling the poster of “Black Friday” supposed to release on Feb 9th.

I am dead tired but this I thought should be posted and sent across today itself…

======And here are the pictures Manjeet clicked======

Anurag is all smiles as he holds the Black Friday Poster… At Last!!!

As usual Manjeet wants to share the proud moment... here with Anurag...

Hi again Vasan. I really appreciate the fact that you have uploaded the video and the poster tonight itself.

Guys, I was at the shoot and I know for a fact vasan was dead tired. He was there since nine in the morning till eight in the night. Not only was he clicking pictures and shooting videos, but also acted as one of the journalists in the film (I did that too)! Vasan has shot 3-4 videos which are quite worth watching. So cheer for him and coax him to upload them soon.

  3. anantha on January 11th, 2007 10:47 am

NICE! I have to admit that I have in the past downloaded a couple of “versions” of the movie from various sources and have never had a “working” version! So looking forward to seeing it in North Bergen…first day, second show at least!

  4. oz on January 11th, 2007 10:56 am

= Guys, WHEN IS IT RELEASING IN US… PARTICULARLY IN CALIFORNIA… PARTICULARLY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA… PARTICULARLY IN THAT SHITTY NAZ8 IN ARTESIA… Damn I’ve fought back all temptations to download this movie and watch it on PC… FEELS GOOD TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT “FOR THE FIRST TIME” ON THE BIG SCREEN… Wait a minute… why are my caps on? Must be the excitement!

  5. manjeet singh on January 11th, 2007 10:57 am

it was just a casual moment when Anurag showed the poster to people on sets. No formal function as such. Promos can be seen in Guru and guess would start on TV soon!

  6. VC on January 11th, 2007 11:02 am

Join the club…Oz…Have resisted for so bloody long from downloading it…When will it come to UK guys….

  7. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 11:20 am

Oh nice work Vasan, the effort does not go unappreciated :)

I have to admit I caved into temptation and watched a dodgy copy over Christmas, and wow this was an impressive piece of work. i resisted writing about this on my blog until I get to see the official movie. I hope we get a unedited release in the UK fairly soon.

    Vasan, thanks for the video.

I’m sure a lot of us will agree with you on the much awaited release of Black Friday. I read the book about 4 years back. Now awaiting Anurag’s version.

Maybe Anurag can think about releasing a copy of the screenplay(old version/early draft/anything will do)for hardcore writers/enthusiast as learning material and how things flow between the book and the screenplay and the movie.

  9. striker on January 11th, 2007 11:31 am

the pics help a lot more.. thanks manjeet.. slick poster i must say..! good to see adlabs’ name behind it.. this should ensure a definite release :D FINALLY THE TIME HAS COME!!!! \:d/

  10. OM on January 11th, 2007 11:31 am

Join The Club Sangeeta :p. But, i was not highly impressed with BF. Well i was ohhh so tempted to write a review for the movie..but in all fairness i had to take a back seat. The movies, yes, is experimental in nature…makes you think a lot, etc, etc, etc…but..the chord was missing..the chord where AK cud have pulled me into his reality…Having said that Aditya Srivastav was mindblowing…he has over shadowed everyone..kay kay and Pavan Malhotra included..

Yeah…Trailers of BF in Guru..shit Oz bhai..another reason to watch Guru Now…..

guys most of u must have seen the pirated version of the film, which does not have 45 mins footage. Actually the leak of pirated version might be a good thing in a way, as whoever has seen the film has recommended it to 10 other people. Plus the magic of big screen is always unmatchable!

  13. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 11:40 am

Right Manjeet i’m just getting on the plane .. meet me at the airport ;)

  14. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 11:47 am

Om, I don’t want to spoil it for others here but the movie created excitement within me, hmm that doesn’t mean i liked what happened but thats the buzz teh movie had. It was well made and it was most importantly very honest. Anurag got right into his characters skin, the movie didn’t judge, get this i actually feel sorry for Badshaah Khan’s character. I loved how Kay Kay’s character feels the anguish and torture as teh investigation goes on .. ooh stop sangeeta or else

Om - we can compare notes once the others catch up with us :)

Manjeet - Yes there was stuff cut and i will still see this on the big screen, because there are some great shots that would only have true justice on the big screen.

  15. OM on January 11th, 2007 11:56 am

Sangeeta…please dont get me started here…my fingers are hitting the keyboard real hard..but then again i control myself and hit the “X” button to cancel the page where i have started writing the BF review… I agree the characterisation was spot on…the research was spot on..the editng was so-so…but, the movie still had a very jerky feeling…i for once got tired with all the stories unfolding..and resoning..though Badshaah Khan’s character was was awesome…it was stretched out way too far…now please dont jump on me saying…he had to do it..to show his side of story..well might be true..but if it was soo good then i shouldnt feel it was lengthy….Paki camp was cliched…ok..one last point before i shut my mouth…the “ohh-so-popular” chase sequence..was awesome the way it was shot…but it still reminds me of Shiva where Nag runs from Bhavani’s gang with his niece in tow…alright…OM has locked his mouth now..

  16. manjeet singh on January 11th, 2007 11:56 am

sangeeta your hero rajkumar is in Russia right now u still have time to change the plan. We also have RK’s replacements. What if given a choice to choose ;)

  17. OM on January 11th, 2007 11:56 am

Ohh and all this in no way stops me from seeing BF on Silver Screen ;)

  18. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 11:58 am

Om I’ll resist jumping on you .. this is a public forum .. kuch shaaram hain mujh mein :p

I’m dying to argue with you but nope we shall most definitely pick up this debate once the movie hits the big screen - deal?

  19. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 12:00 pm

Manjeet - I can’t believe you would even suggest that i pick a replacement over the real thing :o

So what is he doing in Russia? Oh so me should wait for the next flight then, i’m sure you guys will survive without me .. this was slightly short notice ;)

  20. manjeet singh on January 11th, 2007 12:04 pm

RK is lining up the shoot for the next schedule. You can save money on air travel by going to Russia instead:)

  21. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 12:05 pm

:-s for some reason India seems more appealing then Russia.

  22. OM on January 11th, 2007 12:06 pm

Deal Ya No Deal Sangeeta..OM is a master of debate…let me give you some more time to think so you come out all guns blazing…prepare your arsenal good..no lenience here…:)>- ;)

  23. manjeet singh on January 11th, 2007 12:07 pm

To make things clear the released version will have 45 mins of extra screen time, which is not present in the pirated copies circulating for sometime now.

  24. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 1:06 pm

Om, you will eat those gobbly wobby words of yours by the time you see the unedited version on big screen :D

  25. OM on January 11th, 2007 1:12 pm

    @ Sangeeta…I hope so…and you pray so..else Somebody’s gonna get hurt…( Sorry Russel Peters)

  26. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 1:19 pm

    :-@

yeah and that somebody won’t be me .. i’m going to start growing my nails and sharpening my teeth

  27. oz on January 11th, 2007 1:22 pm

= any ideas on who is the bald guy in the poster and the cop (?) on the right?

  28. OM on January 11th, 2007 1:24 pm

@ Sangeeta..Off course you gotta do that…Chal Jaane de yaar tab tak peace out…lekin..you can email me if the case be…:)

  29. OM on January 11th, 2007 1:27 pm

Oz…If i am not mistaken..i do not remember a bald character in the movie..and the Cop for sure doesnt look like Kay Kay…so my guess would be..AK has used some real characters or ” advertising characters” in his poster…but..to me the bald guy resembles so much like Puneet Issar( though he is not there in the movie)

  30. OM on January 11th, 2007 1:29 pm

OMG!!!! Is this the same BF or has AK made a new BF?

  31. Honhaar Goonda on January 11th, 2007 1:31 pm

if i remember correctly in “Areeh Rukja re Bandeh” video there was a bald guy (Indian Ocean, nah, it can’t be) or when they went to….. :-?

  32. sangeeta on January 11th, 2007 1:32 pm

    the link is dead Oz?

  33. Smriti Vij on January 11th, 2007 8:34 pm

  35. manjeet singh on January 11th, 2007 10:28 pm

The bald guy is Gajraj Rao our Gaju bhaiya if I recollect properly.

  36. kartik krishnan on January 12th, 2007 1:58 am

gajraj rao ???? i doubt it very much !!!

  37. george thomas on January 12th, 2007 8:48 pm

Is Adlabs going to handle the DVD release as well? If so, would it be possible for them to resist stamping their watermark on the film frames? This egregious practice by DVD-waalaas like Adlabs, Sony BMG, YashRaj Films and Eros actual makes one want to go find a good theatre to watch the film instead of watching logos pop up at various moments to disrupt the viewing experience. :-??

  38. MANISH JAIN on January 15th, 2007 12:55 am

ALRIGHT… This is the first time I’m writing on this website… could not resist… I believe quite a few writers here know me either in person or Orkut… For those who don’t, if they’ve still managed to read all the way down till here, my name is Manish Jain, a writer/assistant director…

The only reason I’m writing here is cos i was there at Mukesh mills the day “NO SMOKING” was been shot… however, i wasn’t there for that purpose, but we had our shoot with Bobby deol… i’m sure most of the people who walked to the shoot had to go thru our set of the Muslim market place that we created for our film…

Anyways, i know it doesn’t make sense writing about that here… but look forward to Black Friday though i’ve seen in um pteen times and have the 2 hr 45 min print in my laptop as well… but guess thats the first edit (thats what Anurag Kashyap had told me when i met him once on his sets)… n i’m sure he might have made a few changes in the film as well just to update it with the 4 years of delayed gap, and also the verdict that came out… Look forward to this one surely on the big screen…

And the new poster seems interesting, but i’m a little confused about the bald character shown in the middle (is that the Dubai counterpart of Tiger Menon in the film who hardly was there for 2 mins in the film??) I hope there’s some explanation to that…

Anyways, Great community here… Cheers to the guys behind it!

    Regards,
    Manish Jain

  39. Riya on January 17th, 2007 1:43 am

  41. OM on January 19th, 2007 1:25 pm

  42. steve on January 19th, 2007 5:01 pm
