Updates: Kaminey and Ishqiya

Just came across a few updates, so thought why not write another post-besides it helps me keep my hopes and optimism alive after being scarred by Chandni Chowk To China. (To read my review, click here.)
After Professor ji’s profound and stupendously entertaining analysis, I don’t think there’s much left to say. On the other hand, things aren’t all dreary and dry at theatres- the uproariously funny, quirky and satirical The President Is Coming is fortunately still showing at a few screens, and for all those of you who haven’t seen it yet, this one is a must catch. It’s amazing really how the Sippys could produce both CC2C and TPIC- one being high on budget and zero on concept, and the other, thankfully the exact opposite. No wonder folks here are wary of these big bamboozlers- seriously with its wide release, if CC2C is what is representing us at the international level, it is really sad. Saying it is putting our worst foot forward is a severe understatement.
Anyway, cutting to the chase, here is some much needed dope on two films I am looking forward to most this year: both from Outlook Magazine-
On Kaminey:
“…Then there are those with alternative dreams. Vishal Bhardwaj’s is perhaps the most interestingly titled film—Kaminay. Set in Bombay, it has Shahid Kapoor playing twins—one stammers, the other lisps; one is nice, the other bad. Shahid’s look in the film has been kept under wraps. Like Saif in Omkara, Shahid would hit the viewers with an unusual persona here and perhaps an unusually good performance too.”
And on Ishqiya:
“Bhardwaj’s assistant Abhishek Chaubey comes up with Ishqiya, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi as two petty criminals from Bhopal who are on the run and find shelter in Vidya Balan’s house on the UP-Nepal border, only to start a wooing game with her.”
Also, Mani Ratnam’s Raavan apparently stars- surprise, surprise- Manisha Koirala in an important role and (thank God) AR Rahman confirms that he will, in fact be scoring for What’s Your Rashee?, and I am relieved- couldn’t imagine an Ashutosh Gowariker film without his music, even if it stars Harman Baweja.
Here’s hoping the stars shine bright for the rest of the year.

Yaar …
Shahid me dum hai …
Wo londa jaanta hai acting karna …
He just needs a good director yaar …
I bet … He is gonna rock the pant off all…
And Vishal Bhardwaj is exceptionally talented .. I do not have any two thoughts about Kaminay being superlative in every aspect of film making …
Ya..agree with Avi
I could be wrong, but does Ishqyia sound like the Bruce Willis/Billy Bob Thornton/Cate Blanchett Bandits to anyone?
yes… it is indeed a copy of ‘Bandits’… but should be adapted well… I think after Dev D we can start excusing remakes now… so many sequences in that film were pure ‘LIFT’s from other movies… including a scene from a German short film. And everyone applauded that… So, big deal! Looking forward to this adaptation anyway
hell no it ain’t no copy of that turkey bandits.. its a movie about 3 people, there are hundreds of such films.. stop assuming and making stupid theories about yet to be released films..
