Waisa Bhi Hota Hain Part 2
Directed by: Shashanka Ghosh
Written by:Shashanka Ghosh
Actors: Arshad Warsi, Prashant Narayan, Sandhya Mridul
Year: 2003
So from the above details you can see that the movie is three years old and you might not remember anything about the movie if you have seen it. But I doubt that would be the case cos it’s one of the movie that sticks in your mind after seeing it. And if you have not seen it then you must. Why? Just continue reading this mini-review of the movie.
Basically, it is a spoof gangster film. Punit Sanyal played by Arshad Warsi, is a copy-writer - his ambitions is to earn heaps of money in certain time so he can retire and enjoy the life with his wife Agni Sinh played by Sandhya Mridul. She is a policewoman. One night Punit gets kicked out of house by his wife after she finds out Punit’s dark secret - his brother was a gangster and recently died in a gang war. And he lands up getting drunk, sleeping on the footpath and saves life of Vishnu (Prashant Narayan) - a gangster , who was shot by members of the rival gang - lead by Gangu Tai(Pratima Kazmi). Vishnu is the right hand of the gang leader Ganpat Mohite (Anant Jog) and they have a history with rival leader Gangu Tai. Punit and Vishnu start bonding, they help each other out but never interfering with each others work and their friendships grows. However, one day Punit’s interferes with Vishnu’s work and all hell breaks lose. Rather than giving everything away, in nutshell… Ganpat orders Vishnu to kill Punit, Punit and Vishnu find out something they have in common, Punit gets kidnapped by Gangu Tai, there is money involved, Agni is planning to arrest Gangu Tai….
Arshad Warsi, a fine actor, but always had his critics cos of never giving a hit solo film. But this film should have answered all of the critics questions. After watching this movie you will think character ‘Punit’ is made for him. He just looks as natural and comfortable in this role as he is playing Circuit. I just cannot believe that there are not any directors/producers out there who are willingly to offer him a solo film. He is one amazing talented guy who does not make difficult work look difficult. His acting is just pleasing. The other actors aptly play their characters.
Shashanka Ghosh, it is his debut film and what a way to start. Not many people have ventured a spoof film in Hindi Film Industry. As far as I know other than this movie “Jane Bhi Do Yaaron” is only other spoof film. (I am not sure if you would call ‘Is Raat Ki Subha Nahin’ a spoof film, would you?). So he deserves all the credit for choosing this kind of genre and coming up with the goods. Only flaw in this movie was that he included a ‘comedy track’ - a bunch of people from Punjab are on a holiday in Mumbai. He could have done without that. It is bearable, though.
Some of the memorable scenes from this movie:
1) Two Taporis having a casual chat - just hilarious.
2) First conversation between Arshad Wari and Prashant Narayan
3) Gangu Tai chops birthday boy’s fingers for not killing Vishnu.
4) The frantic situation in Gangu’s den when Angi comes to arrest her.
5) And the ending.
This movie did not receive any success at the box office, but that was due to lack of promotion. In my opinion, “Waisa Bhi Hota Hain Part 2″ is a must-watch cos firstly, there are not that many hindi movies on this genre and Shashanka has handled the movie excellently, and secondly, for Arshad Warsi.
PS Allah Ke Bandhe song features in this movie. Rabbi Shergill was offered that song to sing but he rejected the offer and sang another song - Laundiya for the movie. it is a hilarious track.

Good review. The screenplay and/or editing could have been better in the movie, some scenes looked dragged. I am not complaining about the production value as the movie was made with a shoe string budget. Yes Arshad Warsi was superb. His other solo movie was Seher
Iss Raat ki Subah Nahi was definitely a spoof but fell flat on the face, another one is Bollywood Calling by Nagesh Kukunoor.
Waisa Bhi.. One other scene which was hillarious is when Arshad takes all the Vishnu and his friends to a concert by Shibani Kashyap..
Ans yeah the sardar angle was a pain in the ass to watch.
Good one HG
yes, it did look a bit amateurish and not technical, but it was good. it’s bearable as long as the story keeps you intriguing. which was the case with this movie.
i have not seen ‘Sehar’ yet, but love “Phalke” song. hopefully, will see the movie before end of this year.
“Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahi” - I found it alright. Only the ending messed up.
“Bollywood Calling” - i so did not like this movie.
- this was a fun movie, though it could have been tightened in places. The script seemed as an “attempt” to keep the story “screw tight”. Not all the one liners though hit the mark. Yes the Sardar gang along with their Bengali friend was an enjoyable track. The way they take pictures with Mahima towards the end was hilarious. An above average movie, but could have been much better.
Wow this is good.. This is Passion For Cinema at its best.
One Review… 3 Comments…. 3 different opinions… Fantastic
HG didnt like it, I didnt like, Oz liked it( Sardar Angle)
yeah true, it could have been much better. however, the movie was decent enough to get a good run at B.O if the movie was promoted smartly.
hindi movie industry should explore into this kind of genre. with the hindi language and spoof theme.. a movie could turn out really good, of course, if done it properly.
Sardar bit just got a bit OTT.
not to mention “allah ke bande” was a great song from that movie.. fyi, arshad is offered solo movies.. he chooses not to take them up as much. he claims he’d rather do a movie opposite a star where the public comes to see them and they see him in the process, rather than waste the producers’ money by taking him as a solo hero. no doubt he’s a damn good actor, but aam junta won’t see past his “circuit”ry and comic roles.. case in point, sehar. he’s definitely come a long way from ‘mere do anmol ratan’ though! when i met shashanka earlier this year, he was working on a project with his brother kitu ghosh titled “chowki”.. i believe it was in post-prod at that time.
looks like shashanka’s next is “betelnut killers”..

Wow Striker !!!
Thanks for the link.
And yeah a prety good film that is.
And this is how he came up with the idea:

i loved the way the movie was narrated and the pretty good dialogues espcially between Prashant and Arshad. wonder wat happnd to prashant who never really got going despite some decent work in Chhal and this movie.
also yeah i felt the punjabi thing was a bit of a drag. a similar song(from an album by a band named Balle Balle Brothers, i think) was much better(”my naam is manjeet, sada bangda wid beat….”)than the corresp song in the movie which imho was BAAAAAAD.
btw Ghosh had a special thanks sort of a thing to quentin tarantino and another guy whose name i dont remember(it is given in the imdb profile of shashanka ghosh, just that i am a bit lazy to do that search for you) who obviously seem an inspiration to the movie.
also 1 more pt- the scene at Gangu tai’s den between Arshad and tai was awesome as well.
Gangu Tai’s acting so raw, realistic - she was amazing in the film.
