Just back from the premiere. Very nice movie. Liked it a lot. The whole story was ery much rooted without going overboard. Liked the idea of casting Konkana Sen. No other current actress could pull it off. Coming to Ranbir…i feel he can act. He did a pretty good. Good situational music and excellent background score. Iktara is the highlight song.

My rating is actually 4/5 but since it comes from Dharma productions I give it 5/5. Hope Yashraj learns something from Karan Johar.

Have they added some BGM songs composed by Amit Trivedi? The trailer gave me some impri that it could be our take on The Graduate. How far off the mark am I? :)

There’s one more background song apart from iktara towards the end which is not included in the album. I guess its composed by amit trivedi.

Wake up sid,is a wannabe film, it trys to capture Mumbai, but fails the problem with Wake Up Sid, is like the main character , the director seems to be confused which way to go the farhan akhtar or Karan Johar way and in confusion ends up creating a mess.

The soundtrack was below average considering Dharma Production past record.Amit Trivedi, stole the limelight with one song and Punjabi Version of the song.

    Ranbir can not act.Konkona sleepwalks.

The movie was excellent, there are some amazing moments in the film which linger long after the credits start rolling in. It would have been even better if it had some light moments in it, also the screenplay is more or less flat with very few lows and highs. I was really expecting a more “dhaasu” climax.

Anyways the highs of the film far outweigh the lows (which are not really noticeable). The acting was very good from all the cast members, Konkona is fabulous as always and Ranbir is good, the supporting cast is good too. Overall it’s a must watch, maybe not a cult(that term so cliched anyways) but a very good movie.

    Tajji Tajji says:

A good feel-good movie. We complain when a movie is larger-than-life, we complain when its not. WUS does not have the over-the-top drama, masala, nonsensical comedy(it has very little comedy in any case), and what-have-you dished by hindi movies regularly. But that might become the very thing WUS will be accused of not having. And rightly so. It is bland, predictable and plays at one note throughout. But the lead actors’ along with the cast pull-off a performance that is very much watchable. It doesn’t make you ROFL, shake you, give you a sermon, or get your grey cells working. But its perfect for a nice afternoon(or evening) with anyone you’d like. Its like enjoying the breeze in your car window on a long drive. Yes, there have been better feel-good movies than this one. But we need something at regular intervals right? And WUS fills the gap perfectly. The music complements the movie beautifully, and thanfully Indian directors are realizing they don’t have to get the actors to lip sync the songs to make it work.
    Special mentions
    - Ranbir Kapoor showed promise from his first movie itself, he was the only thing I liked about Saawariya(yes, he overacted, but at least he felt at ease). Here, he has shown his worth. Hope to see him do more variety.
    - Amit Trivedi’s music. Part of the music done by SEL is pretty average. What stands out are the numbers done by AT. His previous outings including Dev D have been awesome, and it won’t be long before he becomes a household name.

Its been 9 yrs since DCH, and I guess you just watch it again and again every weekend. Of course new things are being tried and coming out from bollywood now slowly. In the mean time, we have unpretentious, watchable stuff like this that doesn’t try too hard but lets the audience have a good time. I don’t think this movie even intended to present anything new. That is very important – the intentions. You don’t go to a ‘chhole bhature’ place and demand that its not as good as Chinese food. The movie was just a fresh treatment to an old subject – without high ambitions. But I guess, cry-babies by definition are meant to cry.

Good movie.Youthfulness of the script cant be neglected.KJo deserves some appreciation for paving the way for such directors.Neat debut.a kinda true slice of life drama.Innumerable reference points.second half was seriously rocking.and then Iktara. One of the best songs if not the best song of the year.I wouldn reliving this movie again and again.Konkana at some places looked outta sorts.and Ranbirs mom.man whattay character.Plus i felt Hrithiks conversation with his dad over the phone in Lakshya was slightly betta than the Ranbir-Anupam interaction.Probably cause of Boman-Hrithik combo and the whole situation in that movie.New found respect for Ranbir. He has potential no doubt can only get betta. It did make me shed a tear. And Konkana is soon becomin an ace in the final monologue delivery.Luck By Chance and now Wake Up S!d.

Well I must say that I had mixed thoughts before watching the movie, but the movie has turned out to be positive for me.A simple tale thats well told.Glad that it steer clear of unnecessary emotional outbursts and remains free of stock situations largely.Music could have been slightly better. But I love Iktara.Ranbir certainly has done justice to the role very well. Its a 3.5 rating from me.

Wake up sid is suprisingly sensitively written and well shot. A really nice film.
The first half is so-so, but the second half takes the movie to a new level. Ranbir and Konkana do well and they are helped by an excellent work by the support cast.
Ayan has set a high standard for himself with this film.

I thought WUS would be just another story of a spoilt rich brat, but I absolutely loved it. It has a level of effortlessness and realism that’s rarely seen in big-budget glossy productions. The “story” is thoroughly predictable (for crying out loud, the title and posters give it away straight up) but the way it unfolds so naturally, without feeling forced at any point, is wonderful. Splendid background music! Ah…I might as well write a full review

Most of you might disagree with me, but, I did not like even a bit of a movie. The idea of the movie was pretty good, but I don’t think it is presented nicely. In the whole 2 & half hours of run, characters hardly change the tone. And, that guitar music that is played continuously for almost the whole movie made me zombie in theater. As someone here said, it’s totally predictable & sluggish. When you have a predictable topic, I think direction & handling of the story should be much much stronger. For example, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.

I loved the scene between Anupam Kher and Ranbir before the later stormed out of the house. Anupan’s voice had that tinge of a father so disappointed and on the edge of breaking down into tears. It was so unusual but real emotion as compared to a straight-away angry parent.

  20. PS PS says:

now this is called evolution … yes the comparisons with DCH and Lakshya are fair… but what WUS has done is proving the evolution of cinema, script, screenplay… it picks up the tone where DCh and Lakshya left…

DCH, needed the guys to fall in love to realize life, friendship, and seriousness to so many other things… one by one, but still and then evolve in life… Lakshya needed a breakup and a complete motive in bringing a change to person …

what WUS has done is a clean simple narrative… the personality in Ranbir Kapoor evolves with situation …. none too different from what everybody faces and keeps it right there… being very rich maybe is the only thing that separates him from a lot of viewers, but otherwise the tone of the movie is brilliant.. taking things for granted till reality dawns, but the change is eventual, not a gritty, determined, willing, or a deeply anguished one, but a simple, need of the hour, picking up from what life has to offer, and the movie stays there… moving back to his family, everything is in the low key note…. perrrrfect!!! another thing loved about the movie… again does not show “youth-carefree life- so many women-cranky-loony characters-smooch-sex” life… neither does it have this disciplined person/life that ‘teaches’ the hero to be “grow up” … the evolution very very sombre… so does his acceptance of his usual life by the end… the cars, money everything…. WUS is definitely a worth watch, not for immediately walking out of the cinema halls to decide if it was good or bad, but for the movie running at the back of you mind now and then… nice one…
