WELCOME -full of nonsense
WELCOME -full of nonsense
Overall grading: B-
Director: Anees Bazmee
Pehaps after success of No Entry director Anees Bazmee thought “chalo No Entry hit hui hai to usi type ki ek aur comedy banate hai”. Let’s take love story of Gangster’s sister and an average boy. OK concept is good but then what? How to develop script? OK… add some songs picturised in Dubai, South Africa, Take big star cast Add illogical comedy sequences, poor jokes …. And most important constatnt TV campaning…. Ek baar public ne ticket kharid li to wapas to nahin karegi… aur.film dekhke medical store waalon (Asprin) ko bhi thodi kamaai ho jaaye to thoda bahot commission bhi pakka… So he made WELCOME.
Yes I know we should not try to find any logic in a comedy movie….but welcome is illogical as well as full of nonsense. Welcome has that kind of nonsense that can not be tolerated for a second.
Though star cast is big and most of them have proved their capabilities in past but if you do not have strong or not even average script then how can they perform? Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Feroz Khan’s presence and Katrina’s beauty have saved THODI BAHOT IJJAT. Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal are repetitive. Mallika is show piece. Writers tried to create comedy emerged from confusion; but the problem is that whenever any confusion comes; the solution of confusion immediately comes in the next scene. And while the end comes the film becomes half cooked Khichdi of confusions which can not be eaten or digested.
Here is the list of some intolerable scenes:
- While Mallika Sherawat tells that she is wife of Akshay Kumar; Nana, Anil becomes angry to him and then in next scene akshay is with Katrina in house of Nana. Why?
- There was no need of the fire scene between Akshay and Katrina ir they had to meet in South Africa. Also the love scenes between Akshay and Katrina in South Africa are so boring and stretched.
- Shooting of scene with Nana on horse is also stretched.
- Climex -tried to duplicate climax like Herapheri, Andaz apna apna… but SOOOOO stretched and confusing.
Songs are below average which are best to be forgotten after watching the film. Editing is pathetic.
After watching Welcome; i found Dhool and Dhamaal quite convincing. Afterall those movies had straight storyline. I did not expect Hera Pheri or Andaz Apna Pana but here you can not find even Hungaama or Garam Masala…
Agreed 4-5 scenes give smile on our faces like When Mustak khan says” meri ek taang nakli hai…” Nana says” upar waale ki daya se apne paas paisa hai, shauhrat hai…. , and when nana says” Aaj kal to biscuit ko bhi parle-g boolana padta hai…’ but as a whole WELCOME is totally time wastage product came from biggies of bollywood. Go with Aspirin.

I agree… There was all hype for welcome… Nana patekar dance… Mr Feroz Khan coming back in comic role … The Hit pair of HDKG coming together.. Ms Mallika Sherawat coming back…All hype but no results..
Frankly speaking i dont understand how Welcome was declared as a superhit… that too with in a few days. There was like they say “Na koi sar hai, na koi pair hai”… They say when u watch a comedy leave your brains at home… I guess thats what most of reviewers did we it was declared as A Superhit…
Movies like Hera Pheri, could be slotted as a comedy and a hit but Welcome wasnt even close to be a superhit comedy… the last 15 minutes were a sheer waste of time.. running around a house that is hanging on 2 wood logs.. isnt what we would classify as it being funny [-([-(
bhai maine to article bhi nahien pada tera
mujhe to ‘welcome’ main maja aa gaya
anil kapoor to kya jama, aur nana bhi

My friend you should be given a medal for deciding to watch the movie and then devoting space for it.:d
you are made of very stern stuff..I wouldn’t dare to buy a ticket of a movie that has Feroz Nadiadwala written anywhere near it. After a spate of illogically conceived illogical movies he seems to have finally hit a logic defying success.. This will surely spur him on to hit newer depths of illogical movies.. God Have Mercy on our Souls.
Sudhir…i firmly decided not to watch the film. But “biwi ke aage kiski chalti hai?” She and 50% of the audience enjoyed the film. once i had thought” saala mere deemag ke to koi garbad nahin hai naa?”
logical vs illogical
there are two ways to understand something
logic ~X( and intuition *-:)
the mind of whole humanity can be devided in two basic types. logical mind and illogical mind
indian mind is illogical mind
Greek mind is logical mind
greek mind is the root of all western culture of today
and indian mind is root of all eastern culture
that’s why the emphasis on logic in west. and dominance of illogical in east
it is too obvious to state that between these two ways of understanding the way of intuition is superior.
intuition is illogical. you just know. women will understand it more readily.
india has upanishad and statements ‘aham bhranmasmi’ or ‘tatwamasi shwetketu.’ just bare statements. no logic is provided.
in west it is not possible to make statements like that. west requires a logical progression.
that’s why even the work of art in west is logical. (which is hilarious)
and here in india even simple everday life is not logical.
if you have breathed the indian oxygen. you allready know something of intution by your guts. this is the whole mileu that makes india - india.
even if you are a totaly westernized man. but if you have even a littel bit of india in you. than when a mother will say to his son, that when the son was in trouble, she felt it. you will not be able to oppose that. AND the mother is right.
that’s why when a indian try to work in a logical way. it is stupid. like anurag kashyap.
that’s why wathcing a indian movie without song and dance, meri khopdi khisak jati hai :d/:w;:-b
Vishrant
tu fir apni khopdi ka ilaaj karwa le…bh$@$*wale.
praneet
wah, man gaye tumko, net per kissi ko gali dene ke liye kaleja chahiye.
tum jaise kissi kaleje wale aadmi se kabhie aamne saamne mulakat ho to maja aa jaye.
mahanubhav
mere pranam sweekar karien.
Ras
the center of ‘ras’ is heart, not mind.
mind do not feel.
a movie is to feel, not to decipher (as lest for me)
‘reservoir dogs’ is good. but tell me really, coming out of cinema can you say - maja aa gaya !!!
a third rate bollywood movie make you feel. a top class Hollywood leaves you flat.
if titanic and his prolongated ‘peoples drowning’ scenes were part of a bollywood drama, what difference you can say. there would have been. in original titanic viewer is left dry and flat. no sympathy is generated. in a bollywood movie, even one man drowning - aur kaleja munh ko aata hai.
a bollywood movie makes you realize that you are watching other human beings.
take any hollywood movie and replace aliens for human. does it make any difference??
i don’t see movies for mental stimulation, for that i read books.
i see movies to feel. aur kissi bhi govinda movie se bahar aate huye main dil main hath rakh ke kah sakta hoon ki maja aa gaya.

fucking with fingers
one can watch, one can listen, one can feel, one can think.
i think with my mind
feel with my heart
listen with my ears
watch with my eyes
i don’t use my heart to think. i don’t use my mind to feel. i don’t use my ears to see. i don’t use my eyes to listen.
i don’t watch music. i don’t listen painting. i don’t think movies. i don’t feel philosophy.
if a philosopher wants me to feel something he should sing.
if a musician wants to make me think he should write.
if picasso wants me think about war he should convay his thoughts by writing or talking. instead he painted guernica. looking at this painting i feel war.
feeling about war and thinking about war are two different things.
feeling romance and thinkign about romance are two different things.
feeling love and thinking about love are two different things.
i can think about love. without feeling it. and a thought about love, without any feeling of love behind it is useless and bound to be wrong.
but if i have felt love. than my thought concerning love will be authentic.
watching picasso’s ‘guernica’ i am too absorve in feeling. but afterword when ever i will think of war it is going to be affected by guernica.
this is power of art. though it is a painting, whose primery impact is on feeling. but it has changed my way of thinking about war.
what sense of mine a movie director wants to touch?
he wants me to think or he wants me to feel.
according to me, a directors basic concern should be to make me feel. that feeling will automatically have its impact on everything else.
if a director wants me to think in cinema hall. he has choosen a wrong medium.
that’s why so called intellectual cinema is trash. a director who wants to tickle my mind by showing me images is idiot.
and a director who don’t have the enough intelligence to choose the right medium for him, is considered genius in the wrong medium he has choosen for himself.

5 superhits in a row… akshay kumar is on fire… ok if people here think welcome is a dud… but u cant take anything away from the guy who is rewriting box office history with “senseless” movies. he makes films for the audiences not for the critics.
vishrant
interesting observations!
@ vishrant
Genuine Art is which appeals to all your senses…
If a painting doesnt make u think its TRASH….
A director who is thr to make good movies; shudnt care bout likes f u or to wich sense f urs it appeals…..
He shud make it with his mind, he shud Project Idealism…
Art is selective Recreation of Reality based on Man’s own Metaphysical values…
P.S. : U r post has given u sum good womun comradeship…
@ vishrant
You need some BIOLOGY classes , MIND doesn’t feel!!! This is BULLSHIT…
@Vishrant
interesting argument indeed but I disagree with your basic assumption that a movie is (necessarily) to feel and not to decipher or think about.
@vishrant
dude too many toooo loooong comments..some pointers from my side tho..
a movie is a medium wherein u can use ur eyes to see the visuals, hear the music/audio fx, feel for the characters emotions and as usual use ur mind to connect all these flavours to make sense of what’s happening.
having all these tools at their disposal a director/screenplay writer can decide what kind of a movie they wanna make..just because it’s not a painting doesn’t mean that any body is stupid to make an intellectual movie..i mean with a medium at ur disposal that has a wonderfull ability to gell all the flavours i think its the best way to at least ensure that an intellectual idea reaches out to a wide range of people.
neerja
if a movie struck a cord with me. i will be thinking about it for years.
but for that to happen movie needs to make me feel strongly. if movie tries to make me think in the cinema hall itself, its missing the whole point.
that’s where swdesh failed. if swadesh had made us feel a little more it would have been a milestone film of indian cinema.
the kind of impact bollywood have on indian society, hollywood can not even dream of.
sunny deol’s dialouge in damini ‘tareekh pe tareekh, tareekh pe tareekh’ is till today the most quoted statement about indian judiciory.
what JFK can not achieve, guru achieved. now onwords the opinion about dhirubhai ambani will be formed on the basis of guru.
baghban ne ek lehar chala di, rang de basanti ne ek lehar chala di. :d/
give me one name of hollywood movie with such an
impact on society.
its the connection, and medium of cinema connects throug feelings. or any art form for that matter.
mithun da’s dialouge in guru ‘arre main kehta hoon utaro ise’ stands right beside (not behind) marlon brando’s ‘i could have been somebody’ or robert de niro’s ‘you tallkin to me’
:d>:d<@};-@};-@};-:x
shailesh bhai….I think u forgot to mention Vijay Raaz..who was the best amonst the lot in this movie.
there is a sport gymnastics. i never get the point of it. some one is tossing and turning his body. and people are watching it.
few people together twisted there mind and come up with ‘usual suspects.’
now people are watching it.
what’s the point.
its just gymnastics. :o :-??
what comes from the mind appeals to the mind
what comes from the heart appeals to the heart.

Karan johar my hero
i am a big fan of him.
his ‘kal ho na ho’ is better than ‘anand’.
his ‘kabhie alvida na kehna’ has broken a new ground.
he is the first man to dare to question the unquestionable in india. the institution of marriage.
every time i heard he was made to feel bad about questioning the so called sacred institution (bullshit) i felt like beating some one up.
he is my hope.
i pray that he should not be deterred by this.
and continue to probe in the now meaningless rituals of indian society.
he knows the basic moral pilers of indian society. and he has shown the intelligence that can see through the rottenness of these pilers.
just go on questioning them my dear, you are the hope of bollywood.
bravo karan

VISHARNT IS A MASOCHIST :D
my film of the year
Nishabd by ram gopal verma
it is so much ahead of its time. that no body is talking about it.
everything else aside. if i can, i will give him padmshree just for this movie.
it will take many movies like ‘kabhie alvida na kehna’ and many more years for india to come to the age when ‘nishabd’ will be prasied.
nishabd starts where ‘kank’ ends.
kank is about the reason why marriage is fragile. and people should be free to search rather than living a condemned life. it argues that marriages become stale.and that in failure of a marriage it is not necessary that one or the other partner must be responsible.marriages die even if both the partners are good people. that’s how life is. life does not follow human reason. and there is no point in go on living a stale and dead life.
nishabd starts from here. it assumes that viewer has come to understand the fact that marriages die. and with no fault of either of the partners.
the biggest achievement of rgv is in that the protagonist is not regretful of his love.
near the climax there is a dialog. vijay says- ‘aur jia bhi nahien aayi’
the moment these words enter my ears i missed many a heartbeats in a row.
everything about this movie is brilliant.
a masterpiece.
